New Installation : Login Delays and Wifi Problems

Hey There,
I just a HP Pavilion DV2850ET laptop computer and decided to run Arch on it. But I have 2 major problems as for now. I'll be very pleased if I get over them.
1) When the kernel starts loading with vga=792 parameter on, 2 Arch Linux logo shows up instead of 1.. I don't think that this is normal.
2) I've installed all packages with the newest ISO image release: Archlinux-i686-2007.08-2.core.iso - It's installed without any problems. When the login prompt appears (that I'm going to write root to do the rest of the installation for a while) I can't write anything for about 10-15 seconds. After the 10-15 seconds of waiting, I can write whatever I want.. But this happens all the time and I have to wait everytime I open the computer. I thought that maybe this could be something related with the kernel installed so I upgraded to testing. But nothing changed. This is the most annoying part actually..
3) I have 07:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection (rev 02) on the laptop. There are several modules for this card as far as I can see like: ipw3945, ipl3945, etc.. During the installation, I let hwdetect to fill modules part in rc.conf and it added these modules: sky2 iwl3945 snd-mixer-oss snd-pcm-oss snd-hwdep snd-page-alloc snd-pcm snd-timer snd snd-hda-intel soundcore - What are all these sound modules any way ? Are they really necessary ?
Here are lspci and dmesg outputs. I hope they help..

At this moment, I believe the ipw3945 module and it's deamon work better than the iwf3945. So you can start changing this. In the module line in rc.conf change iwf to ipw. In the deamons line add before the network deamon ipw3945d and youre done.
The double archlogo is standard I think, got them too

  • Windows 7,new installation, images folder path configuration problem

    Hello all,
    I am having a difficult time getting images folder (or possibly loaded images) to perform correctly on a new installation.
    When apex starts up, the page has no visual objects rendered. Here's a portion of the page's source:
    h1. Sample rendered page segment
    <!DOCTYPE html>
    <html lang="en" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xmlns:htmldb="http://htmldb.oracle.com" xmlns:apex="http://apex.oracle.com">
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=edge" />
    <title>Application Express Login</title>
    <link rel="icon" href="C:\Users\violin\Documents\OracleDownloads\apex_4.1_en\apex\imagesfavicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
    <link rel="shortcut icon" href="C:\Users\violin\Documents\OracleDownloads\apex_4.1_en\apex\imagesfavicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="C:\Users\violin\Documents\OracleDownloads\apex_4.1_en\apex\imagescss/apex_4_1.min.css" type="text/css" />
    You can see the html is being rendered, but incorrectly. In the excerpt, the images path is incorrect.
    h3. As it appears in the rendered page
    <link rel="icon" href="C:\Users\violin\Documents\OracleDownloads\apex_4.1_en\apex\imagesfavicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
    h3. As it should appear (manually corrected image path)
    <link rel="icon" href="C:\Users\violin\Documents\OracleDownloads\apex_4.1_en\apex\images/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
    I'm not sure whether the folder path is (forward|backward)(single|double) slash delimited.
    h1. Listener script
    I've started the listener with and without the apex.images parameter. I commented out the "plain version." Here's my listener startup script:
    @echo on
    cls
    set oracle_sid=xe
    set localcd=%cd%
    cd C:\Users\violin\Oracle\apex_listener.1.1.3.243.11.40
    rem java -jar apex.war
    java -Dapex.images=C:\Users\violin\Oracle\apex_4.1_en\apex\apex\images\ -jar apex.war
    h1. Troubleshooting
    I've tried a number of corrections including rerunning apex_epg_config.sql, apexldimg.sql, adding an apex.images parameter to listener startup (just a shot in the dark), deleting and recreating apex.properties, adding and removing trailing /'s, \'s, //'s, \\'s, etc. I didn't have success with any of these approaches, so it may have been cumulative changes that resulted in the problem. I just list them as having tried (at least once).
    h1. Environment
    Windows 7
    Firefox 11.0
    apex 4.1 English
    Thank you for taking the time to respond.

    Hello Jeff E,
    Thank you for quick reply.
    Yes, I did specify a full path rather than /i/. I think I had originally started with /i/ but didn't understand where /i/ maps to a folder path, so I reinstalled and specified the path with similar results.
    I'll test reset_image_prefix.sql and post results.
    I'm confused about the EPSQL gateway v. APEX listener. I just tried to follow the documentation which offered multiple options. I am not familiar with either of them, so I can't defend a choice.
    Thank you.
    Albert

  • Iphone 3G and wifi problems.  I've been reading the string about this from last year.  I have an iphone 3G with the latest ios 4.2.1 software.  Every time I connect to my home wifi - Belkin N  - it comes up after a few minutes with "Incorrect Password".

    I re-enter the password correctly but it keeps happening.  Any suggestions?

    I have a belkin n surf as well and i have got this and other problems. my iphone 3g and 4 often keep on loosing connectivity. especially if the bluetooth is one (either connected or not). it often fails to find my wifi network after waking up from sleep.
    the problem i think is most certainly with belkin n. its one of the worst routers out there. unfortunately i didn't read the reviews before buying it. i have other problems with it to like connecting it to a dc++ hub. the setting up for port forwarding is a pain and it tends to connect to the internet on its own even though there are no settings to disable automatic connection.
    i was later told by many people online and also read it in the reviews that its one of the very bad router out there along with other belkin routers. belkin has even arranged a replacement for me as its under warranty but i'm avoidng travelling to the other end of the city cause i know all models have the same problem. the worst of them all is a mere 3mbps transfer speed form one computer to another over wifi file sharing even if they both are connected via 802.11n and are placed withing full signal coverage range, with no firewall or security on either on the machines or router. tried it over several macbooks and windows pcs.
    i'm getting lynksys for good.

  • 2.2.1 update means dropped calls and wifi problems?

    I've noticed some other threads about dropped calls, and 3G issues, but is anyone else getting wifi problems? Seems to not want to detect anything, restart it, and it picks up, but inveitably fails a day or so later...

    I have not experienced any wi-fi connection problems, and I regularly connect to a number of different wi-fi networks.
    I suggest resetting network settings on your iPhone. Go to Settings > General > Reset and select Reset Network Settings.
    This will erase all saved wi-fi networks on your iPhone, which will require re-connecting to all wi-fi networks that you have access to and if any are password protected, this will require re-entering the password for a password protected network.

  • Sync and Wifi problem (iphone 3G 3.0)

    So I've been updated to 3.0 since launch day, and I've been having these problems.
    First, when I plug my phone into my pc to sync, sometimes (more often than not) just disconnects and reconnects in a loop, and will do so until I unplug it. I've tried every port in my pc, and it still does it. I switched it to my laptop, and no problems. I've reinstalled itunes and the mobile device drivers, and can't think of what else I can do to fix it.
    The other problem is that my phone won't stay on wifi when it is connected. It will continually switch on and off, and my browser and apps will tell me that I don't have a connection to the internet, even if I have 3g service while the wifi is disabled. Just started doing that with 3.0. I've reset my phone, powered on and off, and factory restored it twice. Not sure what else I can do, thanks!

    Restored my phone again, still no change.

  • I got the new ipad this weekend and had problem with apple ID - thus resulting in 13 charges to my credit and debit card with itunes and nothing loading onto the ipad - does anyone have an idea as to how I can get this credited back to my accounts?

    I bought the new ipad this weekend and had £15 credit.  For some reason it charged 13 items to be credit and debit card and did not load the item onto the ipad- does anyone know how I can get this credited?

    My sister just received her new iMac - 20 inch - 500 GB drive.
    I started seeing problems during the download of the FIRST software update from apple. There was a black box in the lower left corner of the software update window where it should have been grey (or metal).
    On reboot, I also occasionally show weird flickering graphics in the lower right of the login screen.
    My new iMac also frooze about 4 different times during the installtion of various updates during the first 4 hours of use. Mouse and keyboard would not work. Once it frooze at the login screen after clicking on the user name.
    I also had wifi issues. After three hours of use, my STRONG wifi connection was lost. Moreover, I could not see any other wifi stations. (normally I would see 5 other wifi access points from my sister's neighbours). After reboot, the other wifi access points would appear including my sisters but I could NOT connect to my sister's wifi access point. It said I had an error. I checked the keychain and it showed the right key/password for my sister's wifi AP. I had to run Mac Network Diagnostics and reset wifi to get things working again.
    It sounds like a sick iMac. I know others have experienced freezing. But given all these problems, should I ask for a new imac?
    Rob
    P.S. My sister got AppleCare as well. Maybe that was a good thing...

    I had a long chat with Apple Support. It would appear that Apple's policy is not replace the computer unless it can be determined that it is a hardware problem (even though my problems started to appear right out of the box before I even had a chance to download any updates). According to the Apple product specialist, sometimes there are bad installs of the OS at the factory.
    Apple wanted me to format the drive and reinstall the OS.
    Fortunately, I did not have to reinstall the OS! I started to see graphics problems when I was asked to run the Disk Utilility off the Install DVD (so I could format the drive). So clearly there was a hardware problem.
    In retrospect, I really wish there was an Apple Store nearby to buy Apple computers. I am sure the store manager would not ask me to go home and reinstall the OS etc and try again when the computer doesn't work properly out of the box.
    Those who have Apple Stores nearby do not know how lucky they are!

  • Problems with a New installation on 10GR2 and HTMLDB 2.0

    I'm trying to build a new HTMLDB server using 10GR2 on Suse Linux.
    The database is fine, and I've pulled the HTTP server from the 10GR2 companion CD which I can connect to ok. I downloaded and installed HTMLDB 2.0 without errors.
    Following the 2.0 post install docs, it talks about HTTP 9.0.3 and Oracle 10G Release 1 - nothing about 10G Release 2.
    The 10G instructions says to modify the marvel.conf file - except I don't have one anywhere on the server.
    Has anyone else managed to build a fresh install using 10Gr2 and HTMLDB 2.0 ? - it looks like something in the config has changed.
    Dougie McGibbon

    Had exactly the same problem and lot's of people will have it. Just posted the solution here, hope the devs will adjust the manual.
    HTMLDB 2.0 Manual is faulty. Install on DB 10.2 and 10.2 Companion
    Cheers

  • Cellular Data and Wifi Problem

    Hi Guys.  I wonder if you can advise?
    I have an iPhone 4S on a monthly contract with an unlimited cellular data plan.  The phone is set to Settings-General-Cellular-On= Cellular Data On, Enable 3G On, Data Roaming On.  Also, Settings-Wi-Fi On-Ask To Join Networks.
    My phone finds and connects to my home network when I come back to the house but when I'm out it will not connect to any other Wifi network.  I have tried all of the resets and stuff but no good.  When I try to connect to a new network the Login page comes up but no details and then the remote server times out.  If I go to Safari and try to access a web page I just get the pop up asking me to join a Wifi Network and when I do an error popup shows saying that the network is unavailable.
    Messing around with the phone I have found that if I turn off Cellular Data (web, 3G, email push using wifi only) I can access other networks but, of course, have no 3G cellular data service unless I am in a wifi hotspot.
    Is there a way to make the phone switch to cellular data on 3G when out of range of wifi and back again?
    Anyway, if anyone can advise it would be appreciated.
    Regards
    Paul

    UPDATE:
    Turning off Cellular Data at a local wifi spot (not used before) didn't work this time.  However, turning off Cellular and going into Settings-General-Reset-Reset Network Settings then acquiring the wifi network did. I could then turn Cellular Data back on and use the wifi spot.
    Will try at another hotspot soon to see if the phone will automatically ask to join the network and allow me to do so without doing the above, as I don't want to be re-inputting other network passwords etc over and over again.

  • IMac - Slow load and wifi problems

    I have lion installed on my macbook pro and on my iMac. My macbook pro works GREAT...no problems. My iMac - I am ready to toss out a window. Here are the problems:
    INCREDIBLY slow boot up time - 5-10 minutes from off - 5-8 minutes from sleep
    The hard drive is constantly working. I can have nothing open and it sounds like the hard drive is constantly spinning
    Half the time my wifi hardware is not found on boot up and I have to reboot with slow load times - sometimes taking 20 minutes before I can get logged in to a 'working' computer
    A lot of my programs have become slow. Safari can be slow responsive but others that are not apple that have done 'lion updates'
    I have my activity monitor running and nothing seems to be hogging resources. My iMac specs are:
    2.8 intel core i5
    12 gb ram
    2 TB hard drive with about 1tb free
    I ran the lion update that came out and it did not seem to do much for me.
    Anyone have a solution? Anyone tried a clean format and did this work? Lion works great on my laptop and I just need it to work on my main computer as well.
    Reba

    i think part of the boot up time issue is the amount of windows you happen to have open when you put it to sleep
    other is lion upgrade slows it down due to this auto save function
    my wifi is also spotty and acts like it can't find itself at times
    and this is a brand new imac

  • N900 and wifi problem

    So yesterday all of a suddent after working fine for a month my n900 connects to my wifi connection at home but doesnt open webpages or anything. It connects normally but nothing opens. the vodafone gprs works perfectly.
    I reflashed phone restored to factory settings formatted. Dont everything so any ideas as to what cuold be wrong?
    Like all of a sudden this problem?

    There was a problem with the wireless router in the end. I tested the phone with other WLANs and it worked properly. So now i got a new router and its all working fine but the thing is after setting up the new router why does it say wireless setup complaint?
    If i go to connect it says press some button on the wireless station and **bleep**.
    I went to settings internet connections and from there ran the wizard entered the pass code and now its working on my phone. But when the wireless networks are displayed it still shows wireless setup complaint.
    Just curious to know whats that even though its working.
    any1 ?

  • Scrabble and wifi problem

    Hi guys,
    Me and my gf have just bought scrabble for our iphones and were hoping to play against eachother on multiplayer. We have wireless internet at home. When we click on multiplayer it starts "searching for opponents" but cannot find eachother. I have even tried opening a new adhoc network but we still cant pick eachother up on it! realy hope someone can help cos its driving me crazy!
    Thanks

    Same problems in our household. Once it connects, it very often drops in the middle of a game.
    I read somewhere that bluetooth could be interfering with wifi on 3GS models. We started turning bluetooth off before playing scrabble and have excellent results both in finding the other player to start a game and maintaining it through the whole game.
    They have an update (released on 9/25 or so) to 1.2.98 that broke wifi altogether on my partner's phone. Says that the phone is not connected to a wifi network when it clearly is.
    We restored the prior version from Time Machine to get it to work again. EA's tech support is non-existent on any of the issues we've ever had.

  • Login credidentials and HandlerChain problem

    hi, i have a problem with getting user who call a web service and logging soap message together.
    i was getting a user with this code:
    Logger log = LoggerFactory.getLogger("");
    String login = "";
    IUser user = UMFactory.getAuthenticator().getLoggedInUser();
    login = user.getUniqueName();
    log.info(login);
    this code working with no problem when the basic http authentication was set.
    problem begins with adding handlerChain annotation to web service class.
    @HandlerChain(file = "LogMessage_handler.xml")
    when i comment this annotation getting user working perfectly, but when the logging soap messages is turned on, web service is getting "guest" as user and http authentication is not working witch is the major problem because the webservice is available on internet. i want to logging inbount soap requests. but the no authentication is inadmissible.
