New iPad Air has old software 7.0.4 and won't let me back up from icloud updated in 7.1.1

How can I update the iPad Air to 7.1.1 ?
I can't get into settings without completing set up.

Use iTunes on a PC /Mac
you should get the option to update to latest software as part of the Activation process
Don't try to use back up update initially as new then use back up
and see setting up a new device on this doc

Hi yes that works well when the new ipad hasn't been used. Trouble new one has been used for two months or more, has lots photos email etc etc. I am worried that these will go. When we did iPhone thru same process finished up with two of most things pics and emails. The emails alone were over 2 thousand and wife reluctant to delete them all. I would and just sort pics. Any other ideas

If you are not here in the UK then you can't use the UK store - you need to be in a country to use its store, so if you are in Hungary then you can only use the Hungary store.

My brand new iPad air has been completely unresponsive and needed to be "hard restarted" twice. What's up with that?

3 days ago, I purchased a new iPad air. I've installed a few apps on it and have generally just been playing with it and figuring out the OS. Yesterday, while trying to wake it up, I noticed the device was completely unresponsive, the screen would not even turn on. I executed a hard restart (held down home and power for 10 sec). That seemed to remedy it for the time being but it just happened again. I'm concerned that this will be a recurring issue and will possibly degenerate into a bigger problem for my new iPad. Is this a known issue? If so is it a hardware or software related problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I participated not too long ago in this forum in a discussion about music on web pages. All people with any real experience were pretty much against it, unless there was some control that would allow someone to turn it off and on, with the default being set to "off." And, of course, I don't know how it would play with assistive technolology for blind persons (were I to add sounds to one of my web pages, my sister, who is blind, would kill me, I think).
You would need Ogg Vorbis audio in order for it to be playable in all browsers and I should mention that I had a real nightmare dealing with video on this website because I had not told Apache that Ogg is a supported MIME type. Firefox would not play the Ogg video until I edited the .htaccess file thusly:
AddType audio/ogg .oga
AddType video/ogg .ogv
AddType application/ogg .ogg
I would imagine you would have to do that on any Apache server. Until you did this, your audio might be playable in some browsers and not playable in others, like Firefox.
But be careful to not totally distract people with your audio files. Audio on a website brought up in the workplace is usually a clue to others nearby that the person is not working for the company. The first thing that happens is that the page is immediately closed when audio starts coming out of the speakers.

My wife and I have new IPad Airs. I was able to download and use the NY Time Crossword app, but can't get it to download on hers. It shows as "purchased" but does not appear as an icon on her home page, but is on her purchased page. Any ideas?

There are a lot of posts in the forums today with people having problems with iMessage. There was also a published outage yesterday, so it's possible there are still some issues that may be impacting you both.

Assuming that the battery isn't empty (and it can take up to 15 minutes of charging before it will respond), then have you tried a soft-reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo will hopefully appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

HT4623 My iphone has 7.85gb of "other" space and won't let me update because of lack of space. How can I get rid of this "other" space?

Restart the computer and the iPhone might resolve a backup issue. Also, try resetting the iPhone by holding both the sleep/wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds until the Apple logo reappears. Afterward, attempt to restore again.
Before you restore, consider a few other things... One particular onging thread regarding "other" data has users finding that text messages with photos and/or videos taking up the "other" space. Deleting those text conversations helps regain space. (Before deleting, transfer any photos and videos you want to keep to your camera roll or computer.) In addition, check for any deleted phone voicemail messages and delete those to as well as voice memos.
If you decide to restore, the recommendation is to restore as new phone because the backup probably has the "other" data.

SimpleButton has become active in symbol editor and won't let me select or delete it

Hello all,
After weeks of editing symbols without any trouble, I'm suddenly having trouble with a movie clip in the symbol editor of Flash CS4: the simpleButton in there that I want to delete has somehow become active inside the editor--meaning it's roll over state is active, lighting up when I mouse over it--and it only animates and shows me its mouse down animation when I mouse over and click on it, instead of letting me select the button so I can just delete it.
Note that only this one button type is now active in all versions of it in symbol editor, the other simpleButtons are still normal and editable in the symbol editor.
Does anyone know why Flash is doing this? Is there a way to deactivate active buttons in symbol editing mode so I can edit them?

I'm afraid my flash file is 26 megabytes in size.. is there a way to make it smaller in size for when I rename it as a swf file? (I turned most all my graphics into vector graphics with trace bitmap, yet strangely, my file size just got heinously larger instead of modestly larger..)

Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History)
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

So your'e saying it lets you open the app from the app store? If so, that means it's on your phone somewhere take a better look at your homescreens. It will only let you open an app if it's been previously downloaded to the phone.

I was under the impression they were separate apps. When you bought your iPad Air, you got the iOS versions, but if you want the MacOS versions, you will need to purchase them.
They were free when you purchased a new iOS/MacOS product, but the free software would most likely coincide with that.
