New iPod Software Fixes Sound Output Bug?

I have speakers and an FM transmitter for my iPods that connect via the dock port. My nano frequently refuses to output sound and I have to do a reset each time I plug it in. I've heard that its a common bug and that new accessories will not have problems with nanos.
I've down some limited testing and it seems that this current update fixes this bug. Has anyone else noticed this?

I hope you are right because I have been experiencing this same issue with my belkin auto adapter (F8V7058-APL-BLK). I have to manually reset the ipod nearly every time I plug it in. But if it has fixed the issue then it has brought up a new bug listed in this thread:

  • Does new iPod software work?

I just recently downloaded the new iTunes update and it made iTunes impossible to open. I got it working now but I was just worried about downloading the new iPod software update.
So if you've downloaded it already, does the new update work or should I leave my iPod as it is until a new update comes out?

Hi, the new iPod software update is working fine and I didn't experienced any problem or bug, don't worry! Probably you had a problem updating iTunes but it could happen in particular if you're using Windows XP/2000. Let me know, bye!

  • Will the new ipod software update erase all of the music off my ipod??

will the new ipod software update erase all of the music off my ipod??

Unless you plan to restore it, if all you are doing is updating the firmware then nothing will be erased from your iPod. Even if it was you just have to reload from iTunes or your back up.

  • Pb with new Ipod software

Since I downloaded the latest update of the Ipod software, It is not recognized by my computer anymore... The windows explorer & itunes can't find it.
I tried to reinstall it with the Ipod updater but it fails everytime:
either it says there is no ipod connected,
or it says it is used by another application(!!)
Does anybody know how I could repair that or return to the older ipod software version??
    Thanks!

    FOR WINDOWS:
Connect ipod if tunes opens close it LEAVE IPOD HOOKED UP ! control alt delete in processes RIGHT CLICK AND END ipodservice.exe, then open start and click run and put this in "c:\PROGRAM FILES\iPOD\BIN\iPODSERVICE.EXE" /service
Leaving the ipod HOOKED UP NOW REBOOT LEAVE IPOD HOOKED UP may take a few minuets be patient...when rebooting is done itunes should open and recognize your ipod ...This worked for my new 80gig ipod just purchased 2 days ago and pluged in ipod it formatted to windows ok but itunes would not update or recognize ...This info is from Jeremy in ohio tech support for apple he is good (seems to know what he is talking about ), first 2 tech's i talked to were useless . Now ipod is auto updated very happy auto dnloaded music to new ipod (6,787) songs and all is ok ...This is not a fix for scratchy audio this is making ipod able to read your ipod by shutting off ipod service then rebulding it (restarting ) and worked fine for me ...If not sure go ahead and call tech support on this fix for updating ....Thanks all Good luck..

  • Problem with new iPod software update and Robi DAB radio

There seems to be a compatability issue between my iPod Classic and my Robi DAB radio attachment. The DAB radio was working just fine until last week, when I downloaded the latest iPod software updates. Since then, the Robi works fine when it is used as a remote control for the iPod, but when it is used in radio mode, the iPod shuts down after a few minutes (as though it does not recognise that the radio is still attached, and thinks that there is no activity) and the Robi closes down too (due to lack of battery power when the iPod is no longer on). It could be a coincidence, but my guess is that the iPod updates are causing a problem.
I have tried to remove the new software updates from the iPod, ie I deleted the latest updates from the iPod software updates file (C/Documents and Settings/user name/Application data/Apple Computer/iTunes/iPod Software updates), unchecked the box labelled "automatically check for software updates", and then tried to restore the iPod using the old software. At that point, a message from iTunes appeared, to the effect that it could not go any further due to no internet connection. I could not find any way of restoring the iPod without letting iTunes download the current sortware updates.
So the question is, does anyone else have a similar compatability problem (with the Robi or anything else) and how can I get the iPod to run on the previous software?
I would be very grateful for any advice, as this is a very frustrating problem.

The good news is that I removed the most recent iPod software update, restored the iPod (ie returned it to factory settings and reloaded all 14500 songs) and now I am really pleased to say that the iPod and the Robi are working together again in harmony, which is a huge relief.
    Since I had inadvertently deleted the previous version of the iPod software from my PC, I had to download the files from here;
    http://rapidshare.com/files/73863240/1.0.3.zip.html
I have contacted Roberts Radio about this problem. The recent 1.1 software update must be even more frustrating for them, since they have sold lots of Robi radios.
    If anyone needs help to revert to the previous iPod software, have a look at this thread, where the instructions are printed in red;

  • New Ipod software Vs Old Ipod software

Im not sure if this has been asked before but I wonder If anyone can help? Im about to sell my Ipod Mini to buy a 30GB Ipod, I was just wondering as the software for my Ipod mini is out of date, what happens when I add the software that I get with my new Ipod? Also, the songs that I have stored on Itunes, will they automatically transfer to the up to date software? Or will they all be lost? I dont really want to back up the songs if I can get away with it. Thanks in advance for any help.

    Carlene,
You will need to update everything.
If you have a high-speed internet connection, you can download the most up to date versions here...
    iTunes
    iPod Updater
Your music is not affected when you install those. No songs would be deleted. Installing those gives you the most up to date versions of everything.
If you can't download those (slow internet connection--takes too long), then just install the CD.
Either way, the software will just install and everything should work normally. No music would be deleted.
When you connect the iPod to the computer, iTunes should transfer the songs in iTunes to the iPod. iTunes will not delete the songs it currently has.
Also, it is always a good idea to back everything up...

  • I've waited FOUR hours and the update for the new iPod software isn't done!

as the title says, i've been waiting four hours. iTunes is still backing up my iPod. last night i attempted downloading the new software, and it didnt transfer onto my iPod. the screen for my iPod in itunes says there is still an update, but im not exactly sure if i did something wrong. i was rudely awakend this morning at about 2 or 3 AM by my computer's bright screen and a 'bing' noise. I was still about half asleep, but I think it said that my computer had to be restarted to complete the operation. I hit "OK" and went back to sleep. I dont know if i did something wrong, but when I woke up later, i restarted my computer, and it still said there is an update, so I hit "update" and it started backing up my iPod. my iTunes sometimes freezes after left alone for too long, so i closed it. I started this process at about noon, and at 4 it was about 1/10 of the way loaded. anything would help! thanks sorry this is so long!

First time I upgraded my original iPod Touch it took hours. It was actually backing up all the videos and photographs on the iPod - no idea why as it shouldn't have done that and future synchs of both that iPod Touch and a newer version, and my two iPhones, were straightforward.
Although there was no camera in the first iPod touch I had lots of screen shots stored on it. I also removed all photos and videos from the machine and started again which speeded things. Do you have any apps which cache data (mbox mail, appsniper), if so remove those from the iPod - I have a vague recollection they affected the install.
Good luck, I remember how frustrating it was that time.

  • New iPod software worth the update??

I have a 4th gen click wheel...it works...ok...the odd glitch here and there....I know how bad an "upgrade" can turn out...just wondering if there are any problems/warnings/suggestions for the new update??
    Thank you

There is no new update. It's the same firmware, just a new updater to add support for the Nano. If you already had the latest firmware, don't bother, this won't add anything for you.
This latest one (9-23) adds a couple bugfixes for the shuffle. No biggie.

  • New Problem w/updated iPod software and Alpine Integration (4th Gen)

I have been happily using my 4th gen iPod with my Alpine head unit and Alpine iPod adapter.
A few weeks ago, I updated my iPod software to the latest version. Now the iPod sometimes behaves strangley. I encounter the following problems:
    1) Sometimes when I turn the car off, the iPod now won't automatically go into pause and then turn off. It will just keep running with the car off and ultimately wear down the battery.
    2) Sometimes the iPod does go into pause mode and turn off when I turn the car off, but then it won't wake from its slumber. The only way to get it working again is to perform a reset.
These problems seem most persistent when listening to Podcasts. Although I have not yet narrowed it down to exactly that. Also, I do not get problem #2 when the iPod is NOT connected to the Alpine unit.
Any help of info would be appreciated. I am not sure it's the new iPod software, but that's the only thing that has changed and it's been working perfectly up until now.
    PS: I have done the 5 R's.

    Anyone?

  • WILL THERE BE A NEW IPOD UPDATE SOON???

    Hey,
Almost all 60GB 5G video ipod owners are having problems with video playback (freezes after 30 sec) using the new ipod software update 1.1. I had this problem also so I downgraded to the original software 1.0 however I am looking to purchase a radio remote that they just came out with but it requires this new upgrade to have the radio option on the ipod. So my question is: Will there be a new update that will fix this bug so that I can use BOTH the radio remote and be able to play videos back without the freezing (the 1.0 software plays video perfect, 1.1 makes videos freeze). It seems like apple is aware of this problem and has not released a new update to accomodate its customers as of yet. Is this in the works (if so how soon should we expect it?) or do they plan on just screwing its customers over who don't own itunes purchased videos or those converted using their quicktime pro? If thats the case I think theyre being unreasonable and unfair. Thanks a lot for any helpful response you may have!

Your problem is with your choice of conversion software and the profile it uses. There is nothing wrong with the IPOD last update. To my knowledge, Apple never stated they could or would support the many flimflam conversion software makers out to make a quick buck. I had my 30 and 60 Gb 3 days after they hit the market. Both play all types of video files converted using the MPEG Simple Profile. I use industry proven software and not "Freeware" spliced together. I have proved this point many times over the past few months to IPOD owners reporting this problem. Why do my files play and theirs don't? Well on Feb 24, I gave access to my server to download videos converted properly to IPOD owners via another website. My server went to 100% load within the first half hour. Over 6,000 files were downloaded within 1 hour. No one to date via the link I posted, reported any problems playing the files on the 1.1 IPOD Update. Many thanked me for the effort. I don't make my servers directly available to the public as routine, but was convinced this public test would put an end to the many complaints. In addition, over 60 individuals sent me files converted by software that they use or purchased. Of the 60 files 12 were just plain corrupted and the remianing 48 files revealed that the audio and video was not in compliance with the IPODs hardware specifications. I am 100% certain that Apple is aware of the complaints concerning this issue. So what do you expect them to do, fix their hardware or make the software makers fix theirs?
I have and tested the following devices. All have a mix of different video standards.
    IPOD 30 and 60g
Creative Zen and Zen Vision M:
Archos Gmini 402, AV 500 and AV 700
iRiver PMC-120 and just received the "New" U10
    iStation V43
    Cowan A2
Do a little research using Google and you would be amazed at the solutions to this issue you are having. Good Luck!
