I have no audio available for my: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 family) HD Audio Controller
also alsamixer doesnt work anymore.........

when I run alsaconf I get a proper detection then when I try to config I get:

Edit: FIXED!
Hi,
Edit: Running 86_64
EDIT: Adding model=toshiba as options in /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf worked great!!!
I am having the same problem as OP.
Same snd card: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 family) HD Audio Controller
Also, when the kernel boots it shows following message(s):

  • No sound with alsa and integrated Intel sound card, any advice???

I just got a new computer, erased the OEM windows install and installed Arch linux with xfce. I have an Integrated HDA intel sound card with Realtek ALC888 chip
Sound worked just fine in the windows install, so I know the card and speakers work.
I installed alsa and made sure to unmute PCM and Front speakers. Unmuting all of the entries didn't help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am going through the wikiarticl on alsa as well, but if anyone can point out what the issue is hear I would greatly appreciate it.

Hmm. I have an onboard Intel sound chipset as well.. I noticed your rc.conf doesn't have "snd-hda-intel" in the MODULES array; make sure you add that.
I never figured out how to read the right side of lsmod's output, so I'll assume that, despite having the snd-hda-intel module, you haven't enabled it yet. Try (as root or through sudo) `modprobe snd-hda-intel`. It may need underscores instead of hyphens; they seem to be interchangeable.

  • Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite with PC Sound card?

    Hi all,
I'm new to LabVIEW, so please bear with me.
I would like to take some basic network measurements of a single channel hardware audio device. I have a PCI sound card which I was able to play sound files and receive input with using the sound2 Simultaneous_Sound_IO.vi. I'm wondering if it's possible and how difficult it would be to integrate this VI with the VIs associated with the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite? I've downloaded the trial version of the Measurement Suite and it appears to include all of the measurements I need (frequency response, THD, dynamic range), however they're all designed to work with NI DAQ hardware.
If it is possible, could someone point me in the right direction as far as integrating the two, or even post or direct me towards existing VIs if there are any?
    Thanks so much

Which S&V vi's do you mean to be dedicated to NI hardware?
A quick peek into the addon show me waveforms as input and the sound vis have a waveform output.
OK I didn't look at the examples and by habbit ignore the express vis .   But maybe you just want to use a program instead of programming your application?

  • Only right and left channels work with external sound card

Just got the USB Sound blaster xfi surround 5.. connected it to my laptop and connected to my home theather in a box using optical connection.
downloaded and installed latest software but when I do a channel check I only get sound out of the right and left and even then it does not sound right.
I have verified that my home theater in the box will play 5. with optical input and have verified with the built in test tones of the home theater that all speakers are working and correctly hooked up.
The laptop is ruiing windows xp 3.
    Any suggestions.
    Thank you.

  • Satellite A300 and Win7 - Strange problem with speakers\sound card

    Hello everyone,
    I am working on a - A300-1MO with win 7 ultimate 32 bit
In the last few days (since I have installed the Bluetooth driver but I dont think it matters), the sound card, and therefore the laptop speakers, switch from being mute to being active, sometimes in high volume.
It disturbs me a lot because my computer is making sounds while I am in classes (from apps running\web sites etc.). I almost got kicked out of class several times because of it.
I tried muting the sound card from the windows mixer and from the sound card application, it's no use.
    I will appreciate any help.
    Thanks a bunch
    Roi.

    Hi roibs,
    > It disturbs me a lot because my computer is making sounds while I am in classes (from apps running\web sites etc.). I almost got kicked out of class several times because of it.
Maybe you should leave your computer at home and not play with it in your class ;)
Anyway, I would recommend disabling all Windows sounds in control panel. That means no sounds will be played while you navigate through the Internet or use the Explorer.
    Check this!!!

  • Some app use only channel 1 and 2 of a 6 channel sound card

    Hi,
I use a Native Instruments Audio 6 soundcard, that has 6 channels. In Mac's Audio Midi Setup speaker configuration I configured that channel 5 and 6 have to be used for stereo. This works for quite a lot of apps, like Safari and iTunes, but other apps, like Chrome and XBMC, route their audio through channel 1 & 2. How can this be solved?
This issue in the link below I had earlier, which I have fixed. It could be related, but it is not the same.

    Thanks,
    Robert

Start with uninstalling and re-installing the driver.

  • What's the deal with Intel and the new kernel?

    Hi
I have trouble understanding the whole deal behind Intel's video drivers and the new kernel. What doesn't work and why? Could someone please try to explain what the problem is in a way so that a newbie like me can understand it?
    Thanks

Intel and Linux are transitioning to a new graphics system. We're in the middle of the transition, so everything's kinda suckish right now. Old kernel and drivers are better, development kernel and drivers are almost as good, and they will get much better soon.

  • Load new kernel

I am running arch on Thinkpad x230t and I found this guide with recommendations for running arch on this particular laptop:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Le … nkPad_X230
I am trying to install the linux-ck kernel and am having some trouble. I downloaded the tarball and ran the PKGBUILD and ran for a while and finished without doinging anything alarming.
I made the recomended changes to:
    /etc/mkinitcpio.conf
    /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
    And then tried to run:
    mkinitcpio -p linux && mkinitcpio -p linux-ck
It created the first linux image without any problems but failed on the linux-ck, here is the full post:

    What is the output of
    # pacman -Qm
From the error that you posted, it clearly states that it can't find the specified linux-ck kernel, which if you installed should be hanging out inside of your /boot directory.
You  might as well post the output of
    ls /boot/
As for installing/compiling the linux-ck kernel, the Linux-ck ArchWiki, gives you a general idea, however its the same as installing any custom package (for me at least).  Below are the steps that I personally do, keep in mind that there might be other/easier ways.
    1. Download the latest linux-ck tarball from the AUR, and if you are using an nvidia card you can also grab the proper nvidia-ck package.
    2. Extract the tarball, and cd into the newly created folder
    3. edit the PKGBUILD, the only things I change in this file, are the variables in the code below that are set equal to y (enabling the option)

    # Set these variables to ANYTHING that is not null (y or hello or 2 or "I like icecream") to enable them
_pstates_pat=y # Enable Haswell support for the new Intel pstate drive
_makenconfig= # Tweak kernel options prior to a build via nconfig
_localmodcfg=y # Compile ONLY probed modules
_use_current= # Use the current kernel's .config file
_BFQ_enable_=y # Enable BFQ as the default I/O scheduler
_NUMAdisable=y # Disable NUMA in kernel config
I personally have just started messing around with the kernel configuration so I'm using localmodconfig as a starting point.  You can however load your own config, or start one from scratch.
4.Save & quit the file, then I personally run the command below, which compiles the package and if successful it installs it.  Keep in mind I'm pretty sure you have to have 'Sudo' set up on the system.
    makepkg -ci
If you don't have 'Sudo' or whatever, you can still just run
    $ makepkg
    # pacman -U pkgname-pkgver.pkg.tar.xz
    5. If all is well, I update my grub2
    # grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
At this point, you should be able to boot into your new kernel.  Hopefully you use nvidia, and will notice that you have no X working.  You can follow the same outline to compile and install the proper nvidia-ck driver package.
    Hope this helps.

  • Load new kernel without reboot?

I know, silly question. But is there a way, after a kernel upgrade, to unload the old kernel and load the new one without a reboot?

    To clear things up:
Kexec enables the current running kernel to spawn a new instance of itself.  This is primarily to be used in combination with Kdump, which uses Kexec to generate rich crash dump data in the event of a system failure.  Kexec does not store enough state to transfer your userland processes over to the new kernel instance.
There is no demand for switching kernels on the fly.  Doing so is the equivalent of overwriting your working kernel image with one you just built.  It's plain stupid and no one would do this in the name of "5 9's" uptime.
There is demand for 5 9's, however, and Xen does store enough state information to do live migration of virtual machines.  So, the way this would happen as follows:
    1) sees new kernel version is out
    2) compiles and installs kernel on a virtual machine managed by Xen
    3) tests services by making them available on the internal LAN
    4) live migrates the production VM to the kernel testbed
There you go, kernel upgrade without a reboot.

  • Hp envoy m6 sound card, simmple pass application and support assistant is not working properly

    i have hp envoy m61204tx.

please guide me what is the problem and how to solve it.
any help will me much appriciated.
    Thanks.

    @alki,
I understand that sound has quit working after support assistant ran a few updates.
Press Windows Key + X and select device manager.  The sound card should be listed in the sound section.  What status is displayed for the sound card?
What is the status of the mute key on the notebook?  Does it have an amber light?
What happens if you try to install this driver?

  • P755 and Realtek HD Audio Manager sound effects don't work

Hi. I have a P755 and the Realtek HD Audio Manager sound effects don't work. Everything seems to be up to date, but the equalizer and environment features have never worked. I am using the Analog stereo out. The Speaker Configuration is Stereo. The only thing that seems to change the audio characteristics is switching from Headphone to Line Out.
    Solved!

Can't hurt to reinstall the drivers.

  • NEW KERNEL V47, and a new hope for 720p video play...

thats right people, after matan's strange disappearing, we now have pali getting us new kernels, and his first kernel with loads of new awesome patches is in the extras devels ( v47 ) , you can try it out, same installation method as the old v46  (or v42 from the extras ), and same overclocking method too .
and now he is working on a 720p video playback patch, he already got the 720p media codecs (finally) and many users reported that they are able to play 720p mpeg4 videos on the n900 (this patch isn't in the extras devel version....yet ! ) so now we don't have a hardware problem to play 720p videos, the problem is in gstreamer (video player in the default media player) but thank god, we have MohamadAG to work on that openmedia player so we can finally get 720p video playback .
and if we can play 720p videos, we can shoot them too .
and i can say that after 40 minutes of hard usage of this new kernel my phone seems a lot smoother and abit faster than the old v46 or v42 with the same overclocking settings .
Use Hildon Application Manager or via apt-get
    Step 1 Installation:
In Hildon Application Manager install package: Linux Kernel for power user
    Or via apt-get package: kernel-power-flasher
    Step 2 Multiboot support:
    First see step 1.
Then in Hildon Application Manager install package: Linux Kernel for power user (boot image)
    Or via apt-get package: kernel-power-bootimg
this is not for noobs right now, but it will be soon, and it might become a part of the cssu .
and btw if you get a 400 degrees temprature in conky don't panic, its a false value, its 40

i am boping we get another community udate soon. the last one brought us a great camera update, but the email is still messed up.
it will be coming...... its just tat Mag is busy with the new facebook app...... and so far i know that it includes multiple proflies support... and the camera ui has been updated 2-3 times since the last cssu update .
and for 720 p playback we are porbably going to use open medi pllayer, for anyone that wants to use it, search this forum for "open media player" , its a faster version of the original one, with more effects and smoothness .

  • New kernel and problems installing nvidia-legacy drivers

I just compiled new kernel, and I can't install nvidia-legacy drivers properly. Pacman installs them, but the module (nvidia.ko) goes to /lib/modules/2.6.19-ARCH, and I want it to 2.6.19.2.. It doesn't work if I just copy the module..
I've compiled kernel many times without problems when I was still using Slackware.  So, what do I need to configure to use the new module directory? I Propably made some small/stupid mistake..
I tried legacy drivers from nvidia.com, but they didnt compile.. weird, gonna try that again too..

You need to install the nvidia drivers, or any other non-kernel drivers, specifically for the kernel you are using. Arch packages the nvidia drivers to work with the Arch kernel packages, and the "Arch way" to deal with your situation is to modify the appropriate PKGBUILD to match your kernel, create a custom package with makepkg, and install it with pacman.
You can also use the nvidia installer, but in that case the nvidia files installed on your system will not be under pacman's control.

  • Grub2 and the new kernel (3.x.x)

    Hi,
It is recommended to adapt the bootloader to the new kernel. While with grub the procedure is easy, grub2 isn't just as obvious.
I use generated /boot/grub/grub.cfg, so the only editable file should be /etc/default/grub. I can't see where to put new names (vmlinuz-linux, etc.), though.

You don't have to put the new names at all... that's the point behind grub2's update script.  Just delete the symlinks in /boot and regenerate your grub.cfg and you're done.

  • Compiling compiling, netweaver 2004s, replace new kernel and nothing hapen!

I did as many expert said, i have installed netweaver 2004s i start the server and when you lunch sap gui and entry the system start compiling, down or stop the server and again the system do the same again compiling and compiling.
i have the new kernel but nothing hapen, system do the same.
exist one parameters to indicate that, or is the memory of the machine?
some expert that can help me.

More specific, i can login to SAP ABAP instance, i can lunch transactions and the system start the compiling as it is normal. but if i stop the sap system and start it again, the system do the same when i login, compiling and compiling.
i don't have one error message just that i know that it is not normal compile several time if you don't change nothing in the system, except for fist time.
