Hi,
I just bought Thinkpad E440 and I was very eager for this laptop as it combines powerfull components and mobility. I have it for 1 week so far and I am very much dissapointed from this machine. I do not know if other models are made with this low quality. First I have problems with HDMI - The only way to use my external monitor with HDMI is to disable/enable Intel adapter from device manager. I have two car trips with it and it has big scratches on the "rubberized" back of the lid(it stays in laptop bag all the time). I used to have Dell, Asus, Toshiba and my previous one was Acer. Non of those has display issues or deep scratches even for so many years in service!
If somebody has any idea how to fix HDMI and scratches please let me know!
I can say my next one wont be Lenovo.

I know it's a liitle late for this advice.   Some of us purchased the standard 500GB Yoga 2 13 and then added a M.2 type 2280 SSD card to the empty M.2 slot.  At least one owner added a 480GB SSD to his Yoga 2 13.  I decided on a 128GB Crucial M550 M.2 card since I already have 500GB on-board.  For $900, I have a Yoga 2 13 500GB / 128GB SSD.  The 128GB SSD is plenty of room when there is 500GB of long term storage onboard.
Your device should have a spare new standard 5mm drive HD connector which can hold a WD Black 5mm SSHD drive which is only available to OEMs.   Of course, you can upgrade your SSD to a M.2 type 2280 SSD card.  The Crucial M500 and M550 M.2 type 2280 SSD cards fit.
The only bloatware I removed immediately was the McAfee software.
For a carry case, I use a MacBook Pro Incase case.  Those are high quality cases.  The Yoga 2 13 is slightly wider than a MBP.
For power conservation during browsing, I use the Power Saver option.  This sets cooling to Passive cooling / CPU throttling.  I average close to 8 hours of battery life in this mode browsing.
I purchased a spare AC adapter to use at work and as a backup adapter.  Please note that the Yoga uses the new rectangular DC power adapter.  You can find round to rectangular adapters to use with the older Thinkpad AC adapters.   I also bought a PNY Turbo Plus 128GB Flash USB drives to offload system images for fast recovery when your Windows get corrupted.  For less than $50, you can get a 128GB PNY drive that writes at a 83MB/sec speed and reads at 190MB/sec.
I haven't any wifi problems.  The OneKey recovery program works nicely but may not work if you mess with the partitions especially the recovery partition.

    Hello everyone-
    I am a new ThinkPad owner.  I purchased a used T40 recently and love it. I installed Windows7 on it (it came with W7, but I wiped the hard drive clean and re-installed).
    I do have a few issues I was hoping to get some help on.
    Nothing happens when I hit the IBM Access button.  I know the button itself works because I’ve used it to get into the BIOS.  I read on the Lenovo website that I have to get a separate driver to use with Windows7, but I have note been able to find it.  Does anyone know where I can find it?
    Also, my ThinkPad has a 32G ATI Radeon 9000 video card, but I don’t think I have the proper driver for it because Windows installed a Standard VGA driver and I am not able to use Aero (which I was before).  I’ve searched both ATI and Lenovo websites for a driver. Any idea where else I can find it?

    Recovery parition can only be installed from IBM/Lenovo recovery media, and for your machine these were only available in W2K and XP. You'll never be able to have a proper recovery partition with W7, even if you were to install the OS from recovery media for T400, since the hardware is way too different.
    You can't install a better video card, since the card itself is soldered to the motherboard. You could swap an entire motherboard. How cost-effective this would be in the long run is up to you to decide.

    New Airport Extreme, works great with Windows XP machine ethernetted into it, and also with a MacBook with wireless-N.
    But my brand new Lenovo T60P with wireless-N is flakey with the Airport. It connects fine with a 100% signal, using the WPA2-PSK / AES setting on the Lenovo (WPA2 Personal security in 802.11n b/g compatibility mode on the Airport). Most of the time it works quite well.
    But very frequently (every five minutes?) one of two things will happen: with the signal still registering fine in the taskbar (and in the laptop's wireless "status" utility), it will become unable to locate any website, including google.com, etc., and refreshes of currently-displayed websites yield server timeouts. The browser (firefox) gives a DNS timeout message. The second thing is just your basic dropped wireless connection. It will reconnect by itself after a while.
    Any advice is hugely appreciated. It ***** to "upgrade" to headaches! (Ha! the forum software doesn't like a synonym for "vaccuums". Apologies to the nuns at Apple for my potty mouth.)

    What you experienced is not a surprise as 802.11n is not a standard yet and each manufacturer has developed it own "pre-n" version. Right now Apple (base station) will work with Apple (notebooks), Dlink (routers) will work with Dlink (PCMCIA cards), etc.
    Lenovo is no different. You can expect 80-90% compatibility, but not 100%. To expect cross-vendor 100% compatibility, you will likely have to wait until 802.11n is "approved" and then the firmware is updated on all devices.

I keep the majority of my music files on an external hard drive.   I'm trying to view all those files on my MacBook through iTunes.   With windows you would go to : File/Add To Library, and iTunes would add all your selected files to your music library BUT WOULD NOT COPY THEM TO YOUR HARD DRIVE.  In other words, if the external hard drive was connected, you could listen, drag/drop, and edit the files.   When I tried the same thing with my new MacBook... it actually started coping the files to my MacBook harddrive.  I don't want that, it's millions and millions of mp3's that I don't want to keep on my computer, only my external hard drive.   Can anyone help?    I'm sure it's something easy, I'm just so new to the Mac world.   Being an iPhone owner for many many years I'm picking up things fast, but this is getting the best of me!  Help !

    Check the songs are really not in the Music section of the library by clicking the magnifying glass in the search box and unticking Search Entire Library if it is ticked, then typing in the name of the album. If the tracks still don't show try closing iTunes and deleting a hidden file called sentinel from inside your iTunes folder. This should make iTunes run an integrity check on the database when you start it again. Make sure the tracks are checked before you try syncing again.

    Take your Mac to a location with a fast, relaible Internet connection that will be all yours during the duration of the download.
    If you want to complain, PLEASE call Apple and do so.
    Internet only downloads of OS X is completely stupid, it assumes everyone has reliable Internet everywhere and /or no data caps.

  • I just installed my CS5.1 on my new Lenovo Laptop Win 8.1. Problem -- On Image Adjustments none of the adjustment options respond.

    I just installed my CS5.1 on my new Lenovo Laptop Win 8.1. and everything worked for a day. On day 2 I ran into Problems -- On > Image >Adjustments none of the adjustment options respond. None of the toolbar functions such as >Crop etc respond.
    I then installed the same download on my PC and everything works as it should.
    Can anybody help please

    The software worked on the first day, problems appeared next day. I uninstalled and deleted the exe.file, then redownloaded and reinstalled but same problem persists.
    I then downloaded and installed on my PC and everything works.

    I'll assume your laptop was upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1
    1. Start by copying all your personal folders (Documents, Pictures, Music, Videos, Favourites, local databases,
    hosts files, etc) into an external disk, DVD, tape, whatever.
    2. If I were you, I wouldn't use Windows 8.1 backup tool, I'm not sure Windows 7 Restore applet will be able
    to read a Windows 8.1 backup.
    3. Check that you have all the necessary licenses, CDs and executables to reinstall your former Windows 7
    applications, components, browsers, plugins, Java, .NET Frameworks, etc. Be aware that some applications require
    to keep same hostname and/or same IP and/or or same local username (or all of them) as they were on the original
    Windows 7 machine.
    4. Check that you have your Windows 7 CD and license handy.
    5. Do you have a Windows 7 image backup of your laptop (prior to the Windows 8 upgrade)?
    5.a Yes? Then restore that image and restore your personal folders on top. You might need to
    install or reinstall some of the applications I mentioned on #3
    5.b No? You'll have to format your laptop, install Windows 7 from scratch, create your local
    user with administrative rights, install SP1, install necessary updates, reinstall all your
    applications and finally restore your personal folders.

    Microsoft Office 2011 Mac: Home/Student Edition. Single User License.
    I also see the Mac version offered about every other week at Staples for about the same price.
    Understand that the 2011 "Home/Student" edition does not come with a mail client.MS dropped Entourage with the 2011 version.
    I am running Office 2008 on a Late 2010  i7 Quad iMac and a Core 2 Duo MBP (both are at OS 10.6.8) and I have no complaints. If you want the Entourage Mail client, you can still get Office 2008 from the vendor I linked.
    I wonder if someone quoted the US$80 price thinking of Apple iWorks.

  • My New Lenovo G580 - Blue Screen Error

    I have bought a new lenovo G580 (Intel B950/2GB/500GB) with DOS (on Friday - 21 Spetember, 2012).
    I have installed another 2GB RAM in the extra slot. So, I have a total of 2+2 GB RAM now.
    I installed Windows7 in it. It has worked fine for 1 day, but when I installed the G580 bluetooth, wifi drivers, it started crashing with bluescreen creating a dump file. Now I am even unable to start the system. I have formatted the system twice by could not trace it out. I have seen other forums and found out that it is due to some dropbox issues etc., But I have not installed even 1 software. As soon as I installed windows7, I started with the drivers (Drivers DVD came along with my laptop)
    Please help me.

    If you are able to open windows go to 
    Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Performance Information and Tools\Advanced Tools and select the last option to "generate system health report" .If something is wrong with the system or a service windows will flag it for you. If you are not able to open windows and try opening it in the safe mode(press F8 during startup) check for the same.
    Also try opening windows in a clean state 
    In the System Configuration Utility dialog box, click Selective Startup on the General tab.
    Click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.
    Note The Use Original Boot.ini check box is unavailable.
    Click the Services tab.
    Click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box.
    Click Disable All, and then click OK.
    When you are prompted, click Restart.
    If this does not cause a BSOD then I would suspect there is a driver conflict/compatiablity in your system.Can you provide the exact error in the BSOD which you see?

  • New Lenovo yoga 2 13 Wi-Fi not working consistent​ly AND killing my router

    I just got my new Lenovo yoga 2 13 and the internet is spotty. Occasionally I can connect to my Wi-Fi for hours at time, but usually what happens is the following:
    Let's say the network is working fine. I am connected on my yoga. I open a web browser and maybe get to see one site before my connection status changes to"limited". At this point, all of the other devices in my home (my cell, PS3, wife's HP laptop) lose connection as well.
    What is happening? My current solution is to turn Wi-Fi off on yoga so at least other devices can connect, but that makes my new yoga kinda useless.

  • BRAND NEW LENOVO K300 5316 1BU (WON'T BOOT FROM DVD SUPERJULTI DRIVE/CD-W​RITER

    Would appreciate info from the Lenovo Community as to what might be the problem and a fix.
    I just received my new Lenovo K300 5316 1BU. As one of the first tasks I made a Lenovo Repair Disc.
    To test my disc I rebooted my computer with disc in drive. During reboot I pressed F12 to get to the proper menu.
    I chose the cd/dvd drive as the first boot option. It showed that the drive was recognized stating Boot Priority but then went directly into my Windows 7 deskop.
    I called Tech Support and tried everything with them with the same results.
    They instructed me to do a complete System Restore to see if that corrects the problem.
    I have not done this yet since I will do a backup of my present setup, not to loose all my hard work and time setting up all my programs and settings.
    Before I do a complete system restore I would appreciate any comments or suggestions from the community regarding this situation.
    Do you also believe that doing a full system restore will help or should I send this computer back? 
    I do find it hard to believe that a computer less than a week old would have this problem with the DVD Supermulti Drive /CD writer.
    If I still have no success after a full restore or a resolve from the Lenovo IdeaCentre Community then I will return this computer back to TigerDirect.
    To conclude I would like to mention the following regarding this brand new Lenovo K300 5316 1BU top of the line desktop computer.
    One of the reasons I purchased this particular desktop was because of the Lenovo Windows 7 ENHANCED operating system that Lenovo has been advertising so much.
    To my surprise and disappointment, this BRAND NEW Lenovo Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit does not have the Enhance version, it is Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit only.
    Apparently, Lenovo is making some with Enhanced and some without.
    Finally, another reason I purchased the 1BU version is because it has a TV Tuner.
    To my surprise again, the TV Tuner card in this model does not have an FM Tuner, which almost all TV Tuner Cards have. So, as a result, no FM Radio with Windows 7 Media Center.
    Thank you for taking the time to read this long post, but thought it was important to share with the community.

    What brand DVD drive did you install? Some third-party drives won't boot by holding down the C key at startup, because they lack the Apple/OEM drive's ROM programming. I recently installed a Memorex (manufactured by LG) DVD burner in a B&W G3, which is recognized by Toast and (with PatchBurn) the iApps. The compatibility problem occurs when selecting a CD/DVD as the startup disk using the Startup Disk Preferences/control panel or by holding down the C key during the restart. In either case, the drive ejects the disk during the POST, so that I have to immediately close the tray and hold down the C key again, to persuade it to boot from the disk. Is this similar to what you're experiencing?
