New LiveCycle Form Design Question

I'm an using LIveCycle v8.2.1. Currently we have several Word Perfect forms that are build off of macros. The user will open the Word Perfect form & a box will pop up asking different questions such as name, address, location, etc & after the questions are answered all of the answers to those questions are dumped into certain areas of the form with pre-written words.
My question is, can I do the same with Adobe LiveCycle? I know I can insert drop down boxes & stuff with LiveCycle but is the pop up boxes so users can enter their name, To, From, etc possible?
Basically, I just want to be able to create something for the user to opne a form named memo.pdf. As soon as they open it, they get a pop up box asking them for their name, who this memo is going to, & subject. As soon as they enter the last item (subject) & click next or OK, all of that information from the pop up boxes are populated to the memo in desigated areas...is this possible?

Hi,
Yes, it is possible. You can use the execDialog method. This is quite involved to do from scratch (I haven't done it), but http://www.windjacksolutions.com do have an Acrobat plugin that makes developing dialogs much easier.
Hope that helps,
Niall

  • Livecycle Form Designer Needed!

    Hello,
I'm looking for someone to finish an existing form we use within our company.  Experience in designing forms in Livecycle as well as Javacscript and Web Services is a must.  We would also like to look at integrating the existing form in to Quickbooks.  This would be an hourly contract position and location does not matter.  Once this form is completed we'll have some others as well based upon the quality of work.  If anyone is interested email me at [email protected] and include any examples of forms you have designed and an overview of your experience in designing forms in LiveCycle.
    Thanks,
    Jerrod Tuck

Well just thought I should feedback that I have found out this issue is to do with the preview not necessarily saving bound drop down menu to the published document. To maintain  the dropdown list as bound requires that one opens the document in Acrobat 9 pro and import the file (xml in my case) from whereever the data was kept directly before saving and distributing the document.

  • Header and Item table - Form Design Question

    Hi All,
I have a header table and Item table. For every record in the header table I have multiple records in the item table. I want to have a adobe form in the following way
    1. A new page starts for every record in the header table and Items in the item table for this header record can span multiple pages with the same header information.
    2. When all the items are displayed for that particular header record, a new page should start for the next header record.
I created one internal table in the following way
Header_field1 Header_field2 Item_table(with all the items for this header record)
Header_field1 Header_field2 Item_table(with all the items for this header record)
I am not sure how to use a table for this scenario (Should It be a nested table?).
    Please provide me some ideas.
    Thanks,
    Ganesh.

    Hi Balasubramani,
I made some changes and have the following now. Can you please let me know how I can achieve page break for every BP_NUMBER.
I have a nested table like the one below.
Main table u2013 Has header and Items information. Every header record has some header information like BP number, name and all line items for that BP in a nested table .
    IT_HEADER:
    BP_NUMBER     BP_NAME           IT_ITEMS(Items table)
    BP_NUMBER     BP_NAME           IT_ITEMS
    BP_NUMBER     BP_NAME           IT_ITEMS
To display this information I created the following
    Subform1 u2013 overflow u2013bound to $record.IT_HEADER.DATA[*] u2013 (Repeat sub form for
    |                                             each data item)
    |->Header sub form u2013 Positioned
    |     |
    |     |-> Text Field u2013 bound to BP_NUMBER
    |
    |
    |->Item sub form -
         |
         |->Item Table u2013 bound to IT_ITEMS
              |
              |->Data u2013 bound to IT_ITEMS.DATA[*] u2013(Repeat row for each data item)
In the output BP number in the first record of IT_HEADER gets displayed and then all the Item records in IT_ITEMS for that BP get displayed. This is repeated all the records in IT_HEADER which is perfectly fine.
Please provide me some suggestions to solve the following issues I am having
    1.     I need a page break between records of IT_HEADER. I want the new subform1 for the next header record to start in a new page. I tried conditional break option, on the only field BP number in header sub form. I have two master pages and two body pages. All the above information is in master page 2 and body page 2.  I am also not sure what to select in the TO section of the conditional break screen.
    2.     When there is an overflow in IT_ITEMS I need the Header sub form to be shown in the next page too.
    Thanks,
    Ganesh.

  • Planning Form design question

    Hi all,
I am well versed in (most things) essbase, having worked with it for almost 9 years.
I have always made it common practice to not write to upper level members (even before ASO came along), making alternate "Input" member hierarchies when needed for allocation inputs. This way there is always traceability back to the number that was entered.
Most of the time I don't mix Top-Down and Bottom-Up input forms into one, I usually create one for each usage, the exception being in ActiveOLAP where I designed the input form for 2 types of input and open/locked cells based on the input type. (But again, it was designed to be unique for what type of input was being entered)
Now I'm getting into using Planning and we just ran thru a demo where we input numbers at a "NA_Dept" member and on save the business rule allocates them to lev 0 departments (based on an alloc % that has been entered). Then we went and ad-hoc retrieved the department members (along with Departments) to show the allocated numbers. Played around a little and changed them, ran a business rule to agg it back up. Then our manager wanted to go back to the input form where we input numbers to be allocated and they didn't show the updated Departments number (because we used the never consolidate on the "NA_Dept" input member).
To make a long story short (I know, too late), what is the best practice for designing web forms? Allow users to input to upper levels for allocations, that way it works Top-Down AND Bottom-Up? Or create different forms for different uses, and have it be a training item?
    TIA,
    Robert

But isn't this the idea of having top-down and bottom up combined? With top down you'd give people a route to follow and let them align their data as close as possible to what's stated in top down. But they don't necessarily have to accept the top down assumptions as they are and that's why they are given the freedom to modify allocated figures in bottom up. Then of course, variance reporting comes into play to show variance in assumptions vs collected data.
I mean, in short, I think bottom up and top down don't necessarily have to match as long as the variance is justified by whoever did the entry.
    Cheers,
    Alp

  • Fillable header with adobe livecycle -form design

I have created a from with adobe livecyle.  Unfortunately the header I inserted in the master page contained fillable fields and this does not seem to work.  How can I create a header with fillable fields that will repeat on subsequent pages as a heading?
    Thanks for your attention.
    Mayka

I'm actually having the exact same problem. I imported a form into Designer 7.0 as an Adobe Reader 6.0 "compatible" form. At first, there were several warning messages in various fields but I changed all of these fields so that they would be compatible. The form works in 6.0, however, whenever a user initially opens the form in 6.0 a message pops up promting the user to upgrade to 7.0 for the form to work. Over half of our users are running Adobe Reader 6.0 so any information on how to prevent this dialouge from coming up would be very appreciated.
    Thank you,

  • Form created with Livecycle Designer with a SQL database - do you need LiveCycle Forms installed?

    Hello,
I'm REALLY hoping someone here can help me, I have spent over four hours on the phone to Adobe in the last 3 days and I'm getting no where what-so-ever. I can't even find out where /how to complain about it! (but thats another story)
    Here's my situtation:
I work for a company with approx 140 staff. On one computer, we have Adobe Livecycle Designer ES installed, and we have used that program to create a form which has a link to a SQL database.
The link in this form doesn't work on the other computers which has the basic (free) Adobe Reader. From doing research within these forums
, I have found that the form will not work on other computers unless they have Adobe Livecycle forms installed on their machines.
What I need to know (and what they cannot seem to tell me when I call), is two things:
Is it correct that in order to use a form created in Livecycle Designer which has a link to a SQL database, that the machine must have LiveCycle forms installed?
How much does Adobe LiveCycle Forms costs?
PLEASE, if you can answer this question, I would REALLY appriciate it....
    Thank you!

I presume you are asking if you need Livecycle Forms ES? Forms ES is a component of the livecycle software suite intended as a document service which will be installed on a server within the organisation. A couple of things this document service can do is to render XDP into multiple formats (PDF, html, etc.), execute script server side (for example the database connection) on behalf of the client (reader, etc.), integrate with backend components, etc. So no you do not install this on each client.
For database connections to work, you either have a server with Forms ES installed which can connect on each clients behalf (ie. Client->Forms ES Server->Database), or you have a reader-extended PDF to allow connections to be use in the free basic Reader (i.e. direct calls to the database or using web service calls to your own database components). However, reader-extended pdf would probably require Reader Extensions ES component installed on a server (you once off extend your developed pdf through this and then hand it out to each of the end users). Not sure if the Acrobat Reader extensions will cover this functionality since I have not tried that. I dont think it does. Otherwise you would need full acrobat on each client.
How much database integration is your form actually doing at the moment? read only? Full access? And how many clients do you expect to hit your database? Depending on what you need the form to do, there is always the option to try and build the integration yourself. Do simple http submits from the browser (hosting reader as a plugin) to some component somewhere which in turn hits your database. Wouldnt require additional licensing but alot more development work.
As for cost for the various components, thats a question only Adobe can answer for you since they all sit squarely in the enterprise space and licensing for that is not as simple as off the shelf products.
Maybe someone else has a view on it or has an alternative.

  • Adobe Form Designer 5 upgrade to Adobe LiveCycle Designer 7

    Hello,
Our team will begin the upgrade process from Adobe Form Designer/Form Server 5 to Adobe LiveCycle Designer/Forms 7 later this month. We've been told by Adobe that this is a significant upgrade.
For those of you that have already been through the process, do you have any advice, lessons-learned, etc. to offer?
    Much appreciated,
    MM

I'd have to agree that it is a significant upgrade. Perhaps not for features/benefits but in effort.
I can't provide any specifics because we chose not to convert but I can give you an idea on what tasks you might encounter.
I hope you don't have many forms and very little VBScript or default scripting and don't use the API for presenting forms for filling.
We have lots of forms (150 presentation screens [forms] producing 500+ printed forms via the Central Pro Output Server). All the presentation screens use VBScript and they are presented to the user with a VB program using the API. To get the capabilities we needed we used all the stuff that makes the conversion a major effort.
We would have to learn the software, redo the presentation screens, learn the new data model, learn JavaScript, rewrite, test and debug 100s of lines of scripting and learn the new API and rewrite the presentation program. And then to top it all off we would probably have to purchase the horrendously expensive Reader Extension software.
We don't have the staff, time or money for that effort. Besides, we are still in the process of converting forms from our older systems and doing a conversion in the middle of the conversion just doesn't make sense.
All the postings for help in these forums also makes me extremely leary. At least Adobe has put staff to actually helping customers that post here. To begin with that wasn't occurring.

  • Pdf reader requirements for forms designed in Livecycle

    HI guys,
I have designed a few dynamic pdf forms that was developed using Livecycle Designer ES. These forms are online fillable forms and I will be uploading these on my site so my users can open these forms in their browsers, complete the form online and print it out for their personal use. These forms are more like online tools for the users. For this, I also have to provide a Troubleshoot guide to my users so they can refer to this if they are unable to open the forms or having trouble viewing the forms properly. So right now I am working on creating this Troubleshoot documentation and I dont want to give the wrong info to my users so I have some clarifications and some doubts and wondering if you guys can help me out..
    1) From what I understand, I think the users need to have atleast a v.8.0 of Acrobat Reader in order to fill these dynamic forms that was designed in livecycle designer ES. This is right? I think so based on my memory since I believe I read this somewhere. Would you be able to clarify this? Have I got the right version?
    2) Also, further to this I understand that the users need to have an Acrobat reader browser plug-in in order to open the pdfs in their browsers. So, I will be adding a list of various pdf plug-in download links for various browsers.
    3) I was wondering, what happens if the user doesnt have acrobat reader installed in their computer? What are the common other pdf readers that various users use? I know there are tons out there but I am trying to understand the common ones that majority of the people use other than Acrobat Reader. I mean users having mac or other OS. Will these forms also work in other pdf readers? Is there are a list of various pdf readers & the versions requirements in order for these livecycle forms to work?
    4) Other than the above points, do you think if I need to mention anything else in the troubleshoot documentation? Any points I may have missed?
I am sorry..this is the first time I am uploading these online forms and I am trying to understand the requirements so I may be able to assist my users if they do experience any problems. So any help is very much appreciated!
    Thank you..

Some users are having problems viewing my forms I created using livecycle:
    1) I have a created a few dynamic forms designed using livecycle designer ES..In order for my users to open these forms, they need to have atleast Adobe acrobat / reader version 8.1 or higher to view these dynamic files. However, quite a few of my users are saying that they are still unable to open these forms directly from their browser although they have downloaded the latest Acrobat X version and the browser plug-ins in their computer. It happens to both windows and mac computers. But they are able to download these files and open it directly from their adobe reader though. It happens with all browsers for them...some of them have even called up mac support as well as adobe support and they were advised that it could be a problem with my forms that I find hard to believe since it opens in my computer and opens for a lot of other users. Its only a few users still having this difficulties and I can't understand why! They have also tried enabling "Adobe Reader" as a default problem to open pdf files by opening the adobe reader. They also have tried uninstalling and re-installing the readers and still the same problem. These LC files just dont open inside their browser for them.
    2) Also, I recently uploaded a dynamic file in acrobat file sharing. I noticed that when I click on this file sharing link, it also shows the message that I dont have the latest reader installed (something similar to what my users say about my forms), Why am I getting the below message when I have the latest adobe installed? I am able to open other dynamic xml forms in my browsers..why does this happen? I wonder if other user's problem who open my forms from my site is similar to this problem I have with acrobat file sharing...not sure... (example url: https://acrobat.com/#d=fs-E6Bqml8r0FWI8aMu09g )
To view the full contents of this document, you need a later version of the PDF viewer. You can upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader from etc...etc...etc..
What can be the problem when the adobe version is already updated and also the plug-ins are updated too?? I have read a lot of links in adobe site itself which suggest various methods to test out the forms, browsers, plug-ins, etc..and I also understand that it doesnt work for iOS & Android devices, but this problem still happens to some users even after trying out these troubleshoots. Can someone plz explain if there are other limitations or solution for these users?

  • New! Import and Export Form Design Files

You can now export your form design to a Design File . You or other users can import the Design file and create a new form file from it.
    Use Cases / Benefits
You can share your designs as templates for others to easily re-use
You can create corporate branded form templates that can be used by your company's employees
You can archive your form designs locally for later use
    How It Works
To export a design file open a form file, go to the Design tab and select “Export Design File…” from File menu. The file extension of the exported Design File will be ".FCDT" - FormsCentral Design Template.
To import a design file go to the “My Forms” dashboard and select “Import Design File…” from File menu. Select the desired .FCDT file.
NOTE: The FCDT file contains the form Design only – it does not contain options, responses or summary reports.
This feature is availabe to free and paid users of FormsCentral.
Please send us your feedback on this feature. Enjoy!

    Hi
It states that you can save your design and open it "This feature is availabe to free and paid users of FormsCentral" but it is greyed out on the free version. Will not let me import design I created. I had issues with the first design and tried to redesign and ended up with more issues that combined the first design with the second design.
Can someone assist me with this, please,
Thank you for your time and consideration,
    L.McD

  • LiveCycle Forms with JBoss version newer than 3.2.5

I searched and found a post back in August stating that LiveCycle Forms will not work with JBoss 4.x.
Has there been any update to this situation? Is Adobe planning to support versions of JBoss newer than 3.2.5?
    Thanks,
    Eddie

No change at the moment. You still need JBoss version 3.2.5. JBoss 4.x support should be available in the future.

  • Differences between liveCycle Forms and live Cycle Designer

    Good morning
Someone tell me which is the difference between lliveCycle Forms and live Cycle Designer???
    Thank´s

    In a nutshell:
LiveCycle Designer is a tool for creating PDF forms, form templates (XDP format) and form guides.
LiveCycle Forms is a server side product for combining form templates and XML data to produce interactive PDFs or form guides.  It also can process submitted forms including extracting data from a template.  Forms can be combined with other LiveCycle modules to create a more complex document workflow.
In other words:  You build the template with Designer.  You use Forms to merge the template with data and process user submissions.

I don't have an answer. However, since your question is not about Acrobat forms, but Designer forms, you need to ask in the LiveCycle forum that deals with Desginer forms.

  • Adobe LiveCycle Form- End result is text on top of text, WHY?

After completing my form which I was creating, (after steps I want saved, I save it then preview to make sure everything looks fine and no problems till the very end). I hit preview and there are lines of text on top of one another in many areas of my form. It was not like this at all until the very end. I checked the scripting and it seems to be not the problem. I even sent it to another person's computer and it does the same thing.
It is not showing this way in the Design Mode.
I also checked to see if it were the "preview" size but that didn't appear the issue. What I do not understand is that when I print the form out, it is perfect. Can someone help me understand what is going on and solutions to solve this issue please? I am new to forms, Adobe Acrobat and LiveCycle so please provide an answer that I can understand easy.
Here is a sample of what part of my form looks like.

    Hi,
I'm thinking of possible reason for your problem.
Check these solutions, maybe they can help you.

  • Need to add flex grid in livecycle form to generate dynamic PDF

    Hi,
not sure this is the right fourm or not, but I require a way to add flex data grid in my livecycle form to generate PDF containing flex grid.
I tried adding a flex swf in Flash Field in Live cycle but it is giving me
Error #2032: Stream Error. URL: file://PDFMedia026281/g/framework4.6.0.23201.swf
I am new to this environement so any help would be great.

    Hi,
with Designer ES3 (formerly know as ADEP Designer) you can use Flash files within XFA forms.
    Check Niall O'Donovan's article.
He has prepared a nice example of using flash charts which can be manipulated at runtime.
