New pro

Its about time for me to get a new macbook. I'm looking at getting a new pro. Either a 13 or 15 inch. Is the intel i5 that much better than the core 2 duo?
I do some things with creative suite, imovie, and iweb but thats about it other than standard computer use.

You may wan to have a look at "MacBook Pro Benchmarks (April 2010)" (http://www.primatelabs.ca/blog/2010/04/macbookpro-benchmarks/). This gives a good overview of the various CPUs on the MBPs - from +MacBook Pro (13-inch 2009)Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 @ 2.26GHz+ - all the way up to - +MacBook Pro (17-inch 2010) Intel Core i7 M 620 @ 2.67GHz.+

Are you talking Apple's Remote Desktop software, or Microsoft's?

  • Back up of Macbook Pro OSX 10.6.8 with Time Machine can i restore on a new Pro bought with Lion?

I'm Backing up my Pro with time capsule
I wont have access to any mac machine for the next moth where I will buy a new Pro hopefully this will come installed with Lion.
Can i Restore from this back up across the different platforms?

Apple has always provided an easy, automated way to do that, and there's no indication they won't with Lion.
See How do I set up a new Mac from my old Mac or its backups?  The link to Using Setup Assistant on Lion won't be posted until Lion is released, but it will likely be similar to the one for Snow Leopard.

How do I transfer files from my old iMac to my new Pro laptop?

If you can get both computers on the Internet at the same time without re-cabling, you have the connection infrastructure needed to enable file sharing and share those files.
That said, many users find it easier to use FireWire Target Disk mode to treat the old computer as a big Hard drive, and just drag and drop the files, or use Migration Assistant or Setup Assistent.
There is a really good guide here:

  • New Pro what to do with Powerbook

    First-
How do you know which version of the powerbook you have? I think mine is Ti, but not 100% sure.
    Second-
I got a new PRO- wow it's nice- it took awhile before I could muster up giving up the powerbook. So I think i'm going to gulp sell the old one. It's still in good condition, but how do I clear my personal prefrences, passwords, etc? I've never done this before?
    Any help would be great!

I tried to do that but it said that the software could not replace newer software to older.
That sounds like the message that is displayed when an attempt is made to install an older OS over a newer one. Did you first try to erase the HD and zero it? Boot from the install disc, at the very first screen, go to the Installer Menu, open Disk Utility, select your HD, click on Erase, click Options, and select Zero All Data.
So I just manually took things off cleared all my libraries, passwords, settings, and made a new amdin account. SO hopefully that will work!!
Certainly it will "work," but as I said before, if you have ever had anything on your HD which you would not want others to have access to . . . whomever ends up with your PB will be able to access much of your data with a relatively inexpensive and easy to use data recovery utility. "Erasing" a file does not really erase the data, it simply deletes the directory information necessary to access files through ordinary means. Data recovery utilities are meant to retrieve data from files which have had their directories damaged or deleted.
Zeroing the HD gets rid of everything, directory and data, and writes zeroes over the entire HD. For the truly paranoid (who don't want to spend the money on putting a new HD in), 8 Way Random Write Format writes random data over the entire HD 8 times . . . I'm not sure anyone could recover anything after that.
Guess it depends on what you've had on your HD and your level of trust.

  • Trying to transfer data to my new Macbook Pro?  My current Pro has Lion from last week, but my new Pro came with Snow Leopard. When I connected firewire it said I can't transfer the data because of the OS conflict, what can I do? I downloaded Lion?

I don't have the CD for Lion, I downloaded it on line through the store!  I'm at a loss...

We need a little more detail to be really helpful.
Did you download and install Lion on the new MB Pro?
If you didn't that is probably the problem you can migrate from older to newer OSes but not the reverse, so if the new MB Pro is still on 10.6 that's likely the problem.
If you downlaod Lion on the new Pro, you might want to stop the install that starts a automatically and follow these instructions to make a bootable DVD.
If Lion is sucessfully installed on both machines then I'm not sure at this point what the issue is.

  • New Pro-100 owner: a few basic questions

I'm excited to have just set up a brand new Pro-100.  It looks huge on the desk, although I expected that.  I am eager to print some nice 13x19 in photos.  My local camera store had a special when I bought it, that it included a 50-sheet package of the 13x19 Canon Pro Luster paper (LU-101).  I also have a package of 20 sheets of letter size Canon Photo Paper Plus - Glossy, that I'd never opened.
I've read a lot, and watched youtube videos, so have some ideas of what to do, but I am basically new to home printing.  I have a new Macbook Pro running Yosemite and recently got a Dell U2413 monitor which I have calibrated with the X-rite ColorMunki Display.  I have Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CC (via the monthly subscription), and plan to mainly print from Lightroom, of course using ICC profiles for whatever paper I use, for this printer.
Here are my questions (for now):
    1.  If I only print once every week or 2, is it better to leave the printer power on all the time, or to turn the power off when not using it?
    2.  I have read it is best, to avoid clogs, and for other reasons, to be using the printer fairly regularly.  One person suggested I try to print something, even if just 8x10, once a week.  The reading I've done suggests that this printer doesn't clog so easily, but is there a recommended schedule as to the longest time period I should go without printing?
    3. Since Lightroom has an excellent print module, which can use ICC profiles, am I best off printing from that, or should I use Canon Print Studio Pro?  I installed the Print Studio pro plugins for Lightroom and Photoshop, but if I use the plugin in Lightroom, would that take me out of the Print module?
    4.  After setting up the printer, I had it do the print head alignment.  Should I also do a nozzle check, or is that only needed if a problem?
    thanks,
    Neil

Congratulations on getting a great printer. Here's my advice.
    1. Activate the Auto On feature, which will let the printer app turn on printer. I've read that it saves ink because the printer doesn't have to go through a startup cycle.
    2. I have gone more than two weeks, but never more than a month without printing. Never had an issue with clogs.
    3. The advantage of Print Studio Pro is that it handles all the "internal" printer driver settings that are required when letting the printer manage color. It also has some nice "tuning" features. I've compared PSP and LR printing and can't see a difference. So I print from LR.
    4. For initial setup I did a nozzle check and print head alignment. Quick, easy and assures correct operation.
    5. Download this test image and print it without making any adjustments.

  • When will the new Pros be in stores?

Does anyone know when the Apple stores willhave the new Pros?
    Thanks

I called the Oakbrook, IL store on Monday and they said June 17th. I called again today and they said "no official date", but they expect some on Friday or Monday. I am buying one for a college student with the free iPod Touch and asked when the iPod Touch will include the new 3.0 software to avoid the $9.95 upgrade fee. He said they have a large inventory without the 3.0 software to sell first and was not aware of any "free upgrade" if you buy it once the software is released.

  • New Pro Application updates are available Oct. 20, 2005

Check software update. There are new Pro Application and Support updates. This update also includes an apparent fix for problems when transcoding between HD and SD and when converting between NTSC and PAL.

When I try to convert DV-NTSC to DV-PAL or Uncompressed 8-bit (UN8) NTSC to UN8-PAL, using the Apple Presets in Compressor, I get files that are in PAL resolution (720 X 576), but they all have a frame rate of 29.97 fps.
I have installed this Pro App update. Was this update supposed to fix this particular problem?
Any other ideas about this particular problem?

  • I'm trying to sync my iPad with my new pro and i get message saying 5 computers authorised ?? what to do

i'm trying to sync my iPad with my new pro and i get message saying 5 computers authorised ?? what to do

    1.  De-authorize one of your five computers and then authorize your new Pro.
Or, if you don't have five computers and got rid of them before you de-authorized them...
In iTunes, click your iTunes user ID in the upper right corner of the iTunes Store.  Select Account and then press the "De-Authorize All" button.  All of your computers will be de-authorized.  Then it is just a matter of re-authorizing the computers that you want to use with iTunes.

  • Can I exchange my macbook air for the new pro?

I recently bought a haswell series 13" macbook air exactly 1 week before the introduction of the new haswell macbook pros.  After considering the spec and price difference I realized I'd rather have the pro. I looked on the returns tab on the website.  It said I can return my product within 14 days. Is it possible for me to exchange my air for the pro without having to go through returning my macbook air and buying the pro?  I realized the price difference wasn't all that differernt and I wouldn't mind the extra power. I currently have the 13" macbook air i5 with 8gb. I plan on getting the 8gb for the 13" retina display macbook pro as well

I strongly doubt it. The best thing for you to do is to return this one before the 14 days expire. If the time passes you will have to keep the Air and try to sell it privately.
Once Apple accepts the Air back and you know you are getting a refund you can start the order process for the Pro.

  • Living with a small SSD Boot Drive on New Pro??? Migration?

Hi Folks,  I am seriously considering moving to a new mac pro from my 2008 tower.  Aside from peripheral issues,  my main concern is how to use the smaller SSD boot drive vs.  my now current 2T drive?     I've been a mac user since 1985 and my user folder with gigs of mail, documents,  pictures (iPhoto and Aperture) and videos, etc., plus my application folder, is much larger than a 512 SSD.     I now use a 3T drive as a separate movie/video FinalCut drive, so I've stored that separately.  It just seems that if I try to do a migration of my current mac to a new one, I'm going to be creating major headaches and problems.
Before I buy something like that, I need to have a good strategy for a move.

You should try your cyrrent system and clone the OS to a 250GB SSD and 2-3TB data drive
The difference is nothing but remarjabke znd easy to do.
The 2600xt really should have been retured already and confivurd your system with 16GB RAM or more
Might be able to get more out if your Mac and get another year or more
Using one drive only is never a good idea.
    System - data - projects - media - scratch - time machine
And putting scratch and system on multiple SSDs and on PCIE controller card
And then a GTX 680 or AMD Mac 7950 graphic card
The nMP is faster but it still needs work and yiurs isn't dead
