  • Project File Structure

Where might I find an explanation of the PPro CS4 Project file structure? I cannot determine the logic where files are being distributed during a working session, and in particular if you have more than one project on a system.
    Thanks

The project file structure is unfortunately not published.

  • Create new project files with uploaded word document

How do I create a new project file with an uploaded word document.  I tried to follow the guidelines using the Robohelp PDF file but after I upload the word document, I cannot see it in the workspace.  Are there other steps to bring the document into Robohelp 9.  I am using the trial version and have never used Robohelp before.
    Thank you!

I was finally able to fix my problem and I hope to publish this in as many pages as I can.  First I had the exact same issue.  My file was password protected (the one I used as a shell for a new project) spent two hours of work, went home and next
day “Nothing” same errors.  Cannot open file etc. etc.  So after two hours searching the net I found this company that has a
Project Repair Toolbox that is cloud based for FREE (no useless downloads).
I went in > It asked me for the file that I had on my local drive > prompted me for the password and > BAM! the file opened right up.  Since it as viewer only I was able to at least begin re-typing the project plan which was small in nature.
Check it out, hope it works for you.

  • Prelude takes a long time to open a (new) project file

    Hi,
I'm trying out Prelude, and I've created a new project and ingested (via link) about 20 hours of Canon XF footage in about 1000 files from an internal hard drive. All the media loaded correctly and all the audio peak files were generated.
When I close and reopen Prelude and try to open that project, the "loading project" window pops up, the progress bar proceeds to completion over a few seconds, and the window goes away. The issue is that Prelude is then unresponsive for the next ten or fifteen minutes! I can see the entire interface, but nothing responds. I can see the clips listed, but their thumbnails are not loaded. Windows System Monitor tells me Prelude is actively using CPU and accessing the disk. After 10-15 minutes, the thumbnails appear and I'm able to use Prelude, but this seems like a LONG time to load a not-so-big project on a pretty new system. Is this normal?
My system has one of the new i7-4770k processors, 16 GB of RAM, a Samsung 840 SSD for the system drive, and an internal Seagate 3TB 7200 RPM drive as the media drive for this project, so I would expect loading to be pretty snappy. While Prelude is unresponsive, system monitor shows it using 15-20% CPU, 11 GB of RAM, and only 5-10 MB/s disk access. I've tried recreating the project file from scratch several times, with the same result every time.
Is this wait time normal? Is there any way I can speed it up?
If it's still loading, it seems like it should provide some feedback about that, too.

    Hi Michael,
I tested out Prelude with approximately half of the same footage of my
larger project. It still had a brief unresponsive period but,
interestingly, the relationship to the amount of footage didn't seem to be
linear. Whereas a project with all the footage takes 10 minutes, this one
    only took about a minute.
I should also point out that, although this is all Canon XF footage and all
the media is in numbered subdirectories with metadata like on the card,
they are not contained within the "CLIPS001" directory that your Canon XF
importer uses to identify XF media. Therefore, when I import them, the
import dialog doesn't identify the media directories as such. I don't know
whether that makes a difference, just wanted to try to help narrow it down
    in any way I can.
Hope that helps. Will you update me when you have something?
    Thanks.

  • When I start new project files from previous project are displayed

WIN 8 PRE 9   PAL (UK)
I have PRE 9 since new and gave up with it as it contuinually crashed.   I am trying again but find when I open a new project all the old media files are displayed on the right.   I delete them and then drag and drop new ones in, but it still shows the old ones.   File names are the same as previous project but in a different drive and directory.   When I try to do anything it asks where are the old, deleted, files
I thought with version 9 the problewms would be ironed out.   Apparently not.
I have found DVD Styler Freeware is excellent and produced a simple DVD in about 5 minutes.   I may be doing something wrong in PRE9 but do I need to be Steven Speilberg to get a basic DVD burned?

I believe you have two problems. One of misunderstanding, and one of having moved / deleted files from your hard disks.
    The misunderstanding:
Premiere Elements consists of two separate but connected programs - the Editor with which you create your video projects and the Organizer which is a media manager into which you can import still images, videos, sounds and PDF files and then rank, organize, tag, make albums from and do many other activities.
The Media pane in the Organize tab in the Premiere Elements Editor is a mini-view to the main Organizer program and will show you all the media on your computer that you have imported into it. This initial panel is NOT project specific. To see the media for the specific project you look to the Project pane in the Organizer tab.
These pages from the manual at http://help.adobe.com/archive/en_US/premiereelements/9/premiereelements_9_help.pdf may be helpful:
Moving/Deleting Files problem - the 'Where is ...' issue
The Organizer is a database and records the where and name of media files that you have imported into it. So long as you use the folder and file management features of the Organizer, it keeps track of the files. But the moment you use Windows Explorer to move or delete files this does NOT update the Organizer database and it loses track of them.
The Editor also keeps track of files used in Projects. If these files are moved or deleted, then the Editor will prompt for their location.
    Resolution
For the Organizer issue use Find> All Missing Files (in the Elements Organizer, not the Editor) . After a while you will see a list of all files in the Organizer for which the originals are no longer in their recorded location. As it sounds as though you are not making use of the Organizer, the simplest way to resolve this is to select them all and press Delete. This will delete them from the catalog.
For the Editor issue, put copies of the files back where the Editor is looking for them, then in the Project pane of the Organizer tab delete them from there. Then you can delete the copies from the hard disk.

  • Using newer project files than my current version

I was just sent some project files for a project, but when I try to open them, I realize they were created with a newer version of final cut. It is not an option for me to upgrade, do I have any options to get these files to open? Is there a save as Final Cut Version .x option?

    iirc,
If they are on 6 and you 5.1, you can use XML 3
If you are on 5.0, you can use XML 2
If you are on 4.5, you must use XML 1

  • DVDSP3 Won't Make New Buttons, Won't Open Project Files

    HELP!!!!
The button editor in my DVDSP 3.02 stopped working after it opens a new project file. I mean, when you go to a menu and then hold down the mouse button and drag, nothing happens. It will not create any new buttons. Even if you drag a button template over and use the pop-up submenu. It will not create any buttons.
Worse is what happens when I open an existing project file. Then it stalls forever at the "Loading Menus" point in the "Loading Project" dialog. It doesn't crash, it just stalls there forever. However, if I click "cancel" - THEN the app crashes.
But it won't make buttons in the new project files it can open, and it won't open any existing project files. Very confusing.
Here's what I know and have done to this point...
If I watch this whole process in the Activity Monitor, here's what I see. I find that two apps named "DSPX_AEncoderServer" and "DSPX_EncoderServer" get hung (and turn red) when the "Loading menus" point is reached in the document load. Sometimes DVDSP will say it's hung, too, but not always.
However, I found that my DVDSP app still runs flawlessly if I boot from my "clone" backup drive, which is how I'm still able to get work done currently.
Back on my normal boot drive, all of the other Apple Pro apps still run perfectly - FCP, Compressor, A-Pack, etc. But not DVDSP.
OK, here's a clue, but I don't know what it means. Two months ago, I had the logic board replaced on my G4. All the pro apps made me re-register. Then this DVDSP problem appeared out of the blue. Nothing fixed it that I could find. What made it finally go away was the timely arrival of a new Security Update to the OS via "Software Update." Installing that made the problem with DVDSP go away, for good.
Not doing hard drive maintenance, repairing privleges, fully optimizing OS, Disk Warrrior, Norton DiskDoctor - none of them worked. But that Security Update showing up, installing, and then doing the post-install optimize fixed the problem. That time. Or maybe it didn't? Because...
Two weeks ago the FW ports on the "new" logic board blew, just like the original, so AppleCare gave me a third logic board.
Same deal as before with all the pro apps wanting to re-register because they are seeing a different serial number in firmware.
Also, just like before, I have this trouble with DVDSP. But I can't fix it this time.
In the past three days (two of which were really one "large" day with no sleep period in between) here's what I have done in an attempt to fix this, without success.
I dumped the receipts for the DVDSP v3 installs and upgrades, then I reinstalled the DVDSP components from my original disc, and then reinstalled the online 3.02 upgrade. No go.
I did all of the above, except this time I found an Apple TechNote on deinstalling DVDSP v2. So using that as a guide I did my best to delete the app and all its supporting files, as well as the install receipts, before doing a fresh install of the app and the v3.02 upgrade. No go.
I did a plethora of hard drive and system maintenance thinking that perhaps some files had been misplaced, a hard drive directory corrupted, a bundle bit here or there un-set, a few system libraries de-optimized, various font and system caches corrupted, as well as numerous log files too filled up with "essential" data to run correctly therefore in need of deletion.
Along with anything else I could think of based on my 20+ years of supporting Macs in a production environment. Again, no go.
So I deleted all the DVDSP files and receipts from my boot drive again. Then I dumped all the install receipts for OS 10.3.9 and ran the "combo" version installer for that OS upgrade. Next I dumped the receipts for the Security Updates and reinstalled those. Then I did drive maintenance, OS permission fixing and optimizing. Then reinstalled DVDSP and friends. Still no go.
But my version of the app that is on my backup hard drive that I cloned right before taking the Mac to the shop for the 3rd logic board still runs just fine. I boot off that drive (connected via Firewire) and DVDSP will run fine.
    I'm confused.
Now I'm not inclined to spend a lot more time on this since my DVDSP 4 upgrade is due for delivery any day now, and I'm sure that will work OK. Especially since I'm planning on moving to Tiger at that point, too.
But in the meantime, it sure would be nice to know what happened to my "regular" copy of DVDSP.
Can anyone figure this out, or at least give me some new ideas on now to troubleshoot this?
Apple Support refuses to help me because I'm still using an "unsupported" version of DVDSP. Even though I'm still using it because my purchased upgrade is being delivered via "media mail" - the US Postal Service's version of the proverbial "Slow Boat."
That was a difficult and frustrating conversation withthe Apple Support rep, too, let me tell you. I've been a fan, user, customer, supporter, and evangelist for Apple hardware and software since 1984. But when that voice on the other end of the phone essentially told me that...
    a) if I was not using the latest and greatest version of the software, AND...
    b) if I was not willing to spend several hundred dollars each year on support fees...
...then I was basically on my own and they would not help me. Worse, they didn't care that I was an old and loyal customer, or that I was even a stockholder in the company. The support system essentially told me to get stuffed. Yee-e-e-ow!!!!
I was especially mad about this because I have this nagging suspicion that this whole problem I'm having with DVDSP is somehow related to some kind of copy protection scheme that Apple has going on but doesn't talk about.
I mean why did I need to re-enter the serial numbers for all my pro apps when I changed logic boards? Is my problem being caused by some Pro App component that knows enough to stop working when it thinks it's been bootlegged, but doesn't know enough to trigger a re-registration of itself.
At this point, that idea is beginning to sound more and more plausible as the cause of my trouble.
Anyway, this problem is seriously hurting my workflow. I'm out of ideas and I need some guidance from the collected wisdom of the forum to solve this problem.
    Thanks in advance.

I didn't see anywhere that you had downloaded and
installed the latest proApplication Support file. If
you haven't, you should do this next:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/proapplications
    upport31macosx1039.html
    Hal:
I had reinstalled that ProApps Support version, but I hadn't done it since I deleted all the app files and such, then done a complete reinstall from the DVD.
So I just downloaded it afresh, and then installed it. Then I restarted, and then repaired permissions with Disk Utility.
    Still no go.
I'm bamboozled. I thought I knew something about this stuff, but I guess it's good to stay humble.
However, my 5.1 studio upgrade just arrived in today's mail. I think I'm going to take a chance. I'm between projects right now. So I'm going to upgrade my OS to Tiger>then 10.4.6 upd. Then I'll take a shot at installing the new FCP Studio upgrade and see what happens.
Any comments or advice? Otherwise, wish me luck. I'll let you know how this works out with a post here.
Sure wish I could figure out what's going on with my DVDSP v3, though. I really HATE to leave unresolved problems hanging out there. Seems like they always come back to bite you again if you don't deal with them.
    Thanks for the help.

  • "A new folder for every project file"

Aha!!  Right, from now on ... (thanks Steve)
From the Muvipix.com Guide to Adobe PE11 by Steve Grisetti
(p 36) [on starting and saving a new project]
2     Click the Browse button to choose a location to save your new
    project file.
We at Muvipix recommend always selecting the Browse option and,
wherever you choose to save your file, creating a new folder for every
    new project file.
This little bit of housekeeping keeps all of your new project's files in
one neat, little folder. And, when your project is done and you want to
clear it from your computer, you can then remove not only the project
file but all of the temp, render and scratch disk files Premiere Elements
has created for that project simply by deleting that single folder!
This makes post-project clean-up a much easier and neater process.
OK, hope I've got it this time (at last)
    cheers
    Brian

Oh no!  I thought I’ll re-work that Canal video again, but this time saved the project from the very start in a new folder on an ext HD (500 GB) connected USB3.0.  Tried all sorts of things on it, saved each time in the same folder.   Cleared all 14 clips from Project Assets (which of course emptied the timeline).   Shut down PE11.   Checked via Windows Explorer that the project files were all on the ext HD – and by the way, there are no other files on it, just the PE files.  My understanding is that Advanced System Care Pro (Iobit) regularly defrags all my drives if necessary (tho’ I haven’t done this manually for months with this drive).
OK, opened PE, went to Open Recent Projects, it shows the above .prel file and the entire path, I click on it and –

Edited --- and another weird thing, my email isn't sending the complete message I type to this forum.   I sent a whole message once and it never appeared, but this time it's cut off half a sentence above (it did this before, earlier today).
    That sentence should read,
OK, opened PE, went to Open Recent Projects, it shows the above .prel file and the entire path, I click on it and – nothing happened!   (You'll have gathered that's what happened, but I wrote it in my Windows Live Mail, sent via BT-Yahoo ISP ......... )  Hey wait, there was a whole lot more.
Here's a copy / paste from Windows Live Mail outbox
It’s so odd, because as I said previously, most of the time it works so well, does all the things it’s supposed to do.   I followed Steve’s instructions here to the letter.   By the way, as you know, it’s not just the ext HD, this has been happening all along with allowing PE to save everything in its default Folder 11.
I would be – now – very sorry indeed to have to abandon PE11 simply on this account, but it’s causing me to waste such a lot of time.   (Let alone the expense of buying it, plust one Lynda.com course, plus 2 books – not forgetting that I’d previously tried the Corel software and bought a book and DVD for that too!!)
Might just use – what’s that simplicity-itself thingy everyone uses who just want to get any old kind of thing up on You Tube ..........   Oi vey!! <<more weary sigh>>

  • Export Masters To Organized File Structure

    Hello Everyone,
I'm new to Aperture 3, in the past my photo library and folder structure has been a mish mosh of imports ranging from iPhoto to Picassa. The original photo structure of all my photos is a real mess. Of course, when I download Aperture 3, I jumped right in and imported all my photos (as referenced) then went about organizing them in Aperture.
I have looked around and not found the answer to this, but what I would like to do is take my Aperture Organized file structure and Export all the masters to a different location in the same organized File structure. Basically I want my "New" Master file structure to match my Aperture organized folder/project structure and store the referenced files on a share. Currently they are on my MBP with limited disk space.
I have played around with the export versions, but export Masters is grayed our when I select my entire "Projects and Albums". Any help would be much appreciated. I'm just trying to get better organized with my original Master jpeg folder structure.
    Thank you,
    Steve

(Added) First -- and this is important -- you must understand the difference between exporting an image (which creates a new file) and +relocating your Masters+ which moves your Masters to another drive location and tells Aperture where they are.
What you want to do -- quoted above -- can't be automatically (and thus usefully) done ... and (imho and apparently the Aperture design team's HO as well) there is no need.
Stepping into Aperture's world is bit like stepping off the solid pier onto a boat. You feel afloat. You worry about sinking. The boat won't sink.
Aperture is based on image-management. Until Aperture and like programs matured, photographers relied on +file managers+ and, basically, advanced file browsers.
Leave that behind. +There is no utility in having a one-to-one correspondence between your images and your digital negative files+. You literally can no not do this and use Aperture: Versions are images created on-the-fly, based on text files. They don't perdure as image format files (yes, I have been waiting a long time to use "perdure" in a sentence). Aperture lets the user manage their images (in tremendously plastic ways) and (except for backup) ignore file management completely.
I've touched on this in a few other responses in the forum. I'll try to find links. IME, the only file-management need I have is being able to find a file without Aperture. I keep all my Masters in their own directory (no one's captures but mine). I stick to a good file-naming convention. My computer sorts these tens of thousands of images by date in less than a second. I have never not been able to find a file almost immediately (as long as I know what I'm looking for).
If I don't know what I'm looking for -- I'll never find it using a file browser. That's what I use Aperture for.
I realize my presumption in assuming that your needs parallel mine. If they don't, specify exactly what functionality you are looking to maintain. Aperture may not be able to do it. My hunch, however, is that you are trying to stay moored to the world of file browsing. Push off -- there's good sailing out here.

  • Linking 'internal' files within contained file structure

Hi All, hopefully someone can help out with this query.
I'm using InDesign CS4 and I've created a project file structure where the output is a single, automatically completed indesign document.
Within this file structure are various illustrator documents which have been imported onto various pages of the indesign document. So for example, when the illustrator docs are updated (in illustrator), the changes automatically show in indesign.
I want to use this file structure as a template so I can duplicate it as a new project is received. So say I have the TEMPLATE file structure, I duplicate it to create PROJECT ONE, the Indesign document is still importing the files from TEMPLATE file structure and not the PROJECT ONE file structure.
Is there anything I can do so when I duplicate this file structure to create PROJECT TWO, the indesign doc is linked the the illustrator docs in the PROJECT TWO file structure?
I hpe that makes sense, thanks in advance.

If you put utils.jar in manifest of connector jar it should work. check manifest
once again. If it is not then probably it works in following way:
Change Connector.jar to connector.rar. Add utils.jar to manifest of connector.rar.
Package these two connector.rar and utils.jar into EAR then deploy.

  • Convert Project vs New Project / Import

    Hi,
I currently have both PP CC 7.2.2 and 2014 8.0.0 installed on my Win 7 Pro machine, both of which have been running smooth and I personally haven't experienced and issues with 2014 8.0.0 - yet.
Over the last several versions of PP since about CS5 or so I think, I keep occasionally seeing messages where a user might have opened an existing project file that PP has "converted" to a new project file and might have performance issues. I often see responses where someone will say "Make a new project and import the old one"...or something to that effect.
Over the last few days I have let 2014 8.0.0 convert some of my existing 7.2.2 projects files. I would then do various test exports, work in the project, etc.
I then created some new 2014 8.0.0 projects and imported the 7.2.2 projects, and again, did the same test exports, etc.
I can't really find a difference or see a varying performance difference in either of the project files.
So my question is this....What is going on "under the hood" so to speak when the new(er) version of PP converts an existing project file (no matter the version number) to the newer version of PP versus creating a new project file (in the new version) and importing the old version?
I have hundreds of project files and I always like to convert them to the current version of the software so after several versions pass I don't get the "project is too old to convert" (which has happened to me in AE before).
So I am debating should I just let PP convert them or is there a benefit / performance difference to creating new project files and importing the old ones?

An event contains your media, your clips, video, audio, graphics. A project is your edited program. You can edit media from any event into any project.

  • Any way to take a subclip & generate a new original file of subclip's length without recapturing?

When I CAPTURE a large length of footage (say 30 mins) and then I import this footage into my Pr Pro CS 5 Project, I will typically extract a section of that footage into the timeline using the Source Monitor.  I will throughout an edit end up using multiple portions (subclips) of this original footage.  Sometimes I will make specific subliclips, sometimes I will just use different instances in the timeline of different lengths.
What I would like to be able to easily do is to then create a new original file for each edited clip so that each piece is not referencing the same full portion of the originally captured footage.  I am trying to create smaller files that are referenced.
In other words, I guess you could say that I am looking for a way to "capture" in reverse?  Rather than having to go back and recapture just that portion that is now edited as a subclip, is there any way to do this easily in reverse?
It would be ideal if there was a command that took your subclip and simply created a new original file that was now simply the length of your final edited clip or piece in the time line.
I am trying to reduce the size of the original file having to be referenced by Premiere Pro each time to speed up the editing process, but without having to go back and redo the capturing process.

You didn't indicate what sort of footage you're working with, but depending on what it is, you could use the Project Manager to create trimmed clips and a new project file that references those trimmed clips. You could then delete the original media after confirming that what you wanted has actually happened.
Go to Project > Project Manager, select your relevant sequences, and the Create New Trimmed Project option. You want to tick the Exclude Unused Clips option, and set the Handles option as you'd like; this controls how much media is available before the in point and after the out point of each clip. When you've set your options you can click the Calculate button to get a rough idea of how much storage space you'll be saving. Pick your destination and let the process work.
Note that this will only work with certain types of media; for example, MPEG-based assets will just be copied as they cannot be cleanly trimmed due to their interframe nature. Read Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 * Archiving and Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 * Trim or copy your project for more details.

  • Creating a new project with media manager

This one should be obvious but I can't quite figure it out: I used media manager to recompress my project into a smaller one. Media manager did a nice job with that and placed all the files into a new folder BUT - where is the actual project file?? If I use the actual fcp project file from the original- the settings are all different and it told me that some media files are missing or too short. Doesn't media manager create a new project file that works with the new recompressed files that it just created??

BUT - where is the actual project file??
When you have decided on the settings in Media Manager and then tell it to do the job, the first thing you see is a dialog asking where to save the project file. Use Spotlight to search for it.
If that doesn't turn anything up, start MM again, it might have remembered the last Save location.

  • Opening CC project file on second machine fails

    Hello!
I believe I´ve read most or all of the matching topics here but I am still stuck, so here´s my situation.
On my primary Workstation I´ve created a project of medium complexity (150GB, approx. 200 files, 5 sequences).
Here everything is working just fine.
On my laptop I also installed Adobe CC. I copied the whole projects' folder from workstation 1 onto my external HDD and connected it to my laptop.
Opening and cutting works fine here too.
Now, when I save and take the project (project file only) back to workstation 1, here Premiere Pro CC fails to load it up.
The loading bar proceeds to about 75% and then freezes. If I give it some time (10-15 minutes) it finally finishes loading, but Premiere isn't showing any reaction to mouse or keyboard, there are no panels at all visible. Basically it is crashed, allthough that´s not being indicated by the task manager.
I´ve tried all the tips from in here as well as the "usual stuff":
Saving a new project file, nothing.
Deleting preview files, then saving a new file, nothing.
Importing the project into AE and exporting a new project (on my laptop), nope.
Deleting all dynamic linked comps from the old project, saving then taking it to laptop 1, opening and saving it again, taking it back to the workstation, no.
Completely deleting everything Adobe on my workstation 1 and re-installing CC, "great" experience, but to no avail.
I also followed the solution of the similar problem on another thread here in the forums, with unzipping the xml and deleting certain lines of code and so forth, still nothing.
Then I went ahead and installed CC on my second laptop (not at all to be considered a workstation). Here the projects saved on laptop 1 opened just fine (asking for media files of course...).
    EDIT:
I forgot to mention that a new and blank project from the laptops opens just fine on the workstation...
So I have to consider that something's wrong with my primary workstation. Right?
    Any ideas, anyone?
It´s a fresh installation of Windows 8.1 with 24GB of Ram, GeForce GTX 570, i7 950, WD drives only, Windows on a seperate hybrid disk...
All CC installations are up to date.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as my deadline is on monday...
    Thanks!

Try assigning the same drive letter to the laptop's external drive that you have assigned to the media drive on your workstation.  That way, any project saved on the laptop will have the same absolute media file references that the workstation has.
NB: If Task Manager still thinks that Pr is responding by showing you that it's using memory and CPU cycles, then Pr probably hasn't crashed.  It's just busy and taking its sweet time about whatever it's doing.  (Emphasis on "probably")
You mentioned deleting preview files, but you didn't say anything about cleaning your media cache.  Try that.  A good cleaning of your user and Windows temporary files might help.  You should also run chkdsk on your workstation's drives to help you diagnose whether or not hard drive failure is imminent.
    Cheers,
    Jeff
