NEW PS Environment

Hi All,
I am new in the PS Admin activity.
Currently we need to create a new PS environment. Can anyone tell me the steps involved in doing so? Please explain the same in details.
We are using Unix server with Oracle as database.
Thanks in Advance!!
/Pradeep

There are many steps, first of all, read carefully the Peopletools Installation Guide, choose the one according to your Peopletools version :

  • Sql query extremely slow in the new linux environment , memory issues?

We just migrated to a new dev environment in Linux REDHAT5, and now the query is very slow, and I used the TOAD to run the query, it took like 700 msecond to finish, however from any server connection, the sql query takes hours to finish.
I checked toad monitor, it said need to increase db_buffer_cache and shared pool too small.
Also three red alert from toad is:
    1. Library Cache get hit ratio: Dynamic or unsharable sql
    2. Chained fetch ratio: PCT free too low for a table
    3. parse to execute ratio: HIgh parse to execute ratio.
App team said it ran real quick in the old AIX system, however I ran it in old system, and monitored in the toad, it gave me all same 5 red alerts in old system, and it did provide query results a lot quicker though.

  • Performance tuning for new OFMW environment

    Hello
We have just set up a new UAT environment entirely on all Oracle FMW latest products which includes:
    1) OS -RHEL V5
    2) WebCenter
    3) SOA Suite
    4) Database
    5) IDM
    6) HTTP Server
    7) WebLogic Server
As as post infrastructure setup plan we need to to performance tuning as well. Shall we do only WLS performance tuning or we need to tune each and every product in order to get optimum results.
    Any guide? resource to help?
    Pls advice
    Regards
    Dev

When you install the product soa-suite (and probably webcenter too) a prerequisite check is performed
that gives information about packages and parameters that need to be adjusted on your operating system.
For products that run on WebLogic Server you probably have to tune the JVM, examples can be found here:
    - http://middlewaremagic.com/weblogic/?p=6930 (discusses JRockit)
    - http://middlewaremagic.com/weblogic/?p=7083 (focuses on Coherence, but the considerations can be applied to other environments as well)
Examples that set-up the SOA-Suite can be found here:
    - http://middlewaremagic.com/weblogic/?p=6040 (discusses considerations when installing the SOA suite)
    - http://middlewaremagic.com/weblogic/?p=6872 (discusses considerations when adding the web-tier to the SOA suite)
The enterprise deployment guides can help too:
    - SOA Suite: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E21764_01/core.1111/e12036/toc.htm
    - WebCenter: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E21764_01/core.1111/e12037/toc.htm

  • Import Schema into new (production) environment in APEX 4.2

    Hello,
I am having troubles with deploying developed application into new environment. I exported application, schema and workspace and I want to import it all to a new machine. Except schema, I have imported and installed it all successfully. But after I import generated script (DDL) trough SQL Workshop->SQL Scripts I am not able to find created scheme.
Let me explain my steps in sequence:
    1. I have installed XE 11g Release 2, and APEX 4.2 on the new machine (Win 7).
    2. New (ghost) workspace and schema were created (named as TESTWS, TESTSCH).
    3. After I logged to a new workspace (TESTWS) I completed importing old schema (DEVSCH) -( I have found that the import and install sequence should be - fist Schema, second Workspace (with mapped schema), and then Application)
    4. Finally I have imported old workspace (DEVWS) trough administrator console, and have tried to assign it to old (imported) schema (DEVSCH) but without any success. I was not able to locate imported schema.
I am not sure if there is a missing step or something I have doing wrongly, so please advise what to do in order to import and recognize/locate/see imported scheme into new APEX environment?
    Thank you in advance,
    BR
    Jasmin

No.. Once you import an application into HIGHER version of APEX, it is modified to that version.. This is a suggestion, but I would advise having some sort of version control in this case, so you can go back to a prior version easily...

  • Class not found because browsers need newer runtime environment - or this

For all who are experiencing the same problem!
    Problem:
You're compiling your applets with a quiet modern compiler (i.e. Netbeans Version 3.5.1)
You are able to compile your applets without any problems but if you try your applets in "real life", the browsers can't interpret your applets [class not found]. (I tested Internet Explorer 6.0 and Netscape Navigator 4.7)
So you need a plugin for the new JAVA environment because the JAVA environment of the browser is older than that which the applet needs.
Well, you have the choice to demand to every user of your applet to download the new Java Runtime Environment, but then don't wonder why nobody visits your site!
But, don't worry: I figuered out another solution, that Netbeans (www.netbeans.org) allows to compile in different JAVA versions.
    Solution:
What you have to do is:
    - Install a previous version of JDK (i.e. JDK 1.3 - I would suggest, lower versions don't work with Netbeans 3.5.1 and JDK 1.3 is enough for IE 6.0 and NN 4.7, which I tested)
    - Go into the "bin"-directory of Netbeans (i.e. c:/netbeans3.5.1/bin)
    - Open the file "ide.cfg" (with notepad or any other texteditor)
    - You see a line like: jdkhome "C:\java\j2sdk1.4.2" -J-Xmx96m -J-Xss1024k -J-Xms24m -J-Xverify:none
    - Change the path to your other JDK you wish, like: jdkhome "C:\java\jdk1.3" -J-Xmx96m -J-Xss1024k -J-Xms24m -J-Xverify:none
    - That's it, you can compile your applets in a previous version of JAVA so that "older" browser user don't have to install a plugin for the new JAVA environment.
    Have fun!
If you have any questions I would be pleased to help you.
If this tip helped you already I would be pleased if you would send me a quick email with your experience.
    My email: [email protected]

That's very good to know of course, but correct me if I am wrong with saying that Java development not
limited to NewBeans or any other IDE use.
If somebody wants to deploy the applets within browser built-in JVM (which is really outdated and just
Java 1.1.6 compliant) he or she should compile applet with Java 1.1.8 (still available from SunMicrosystems). Generated classes will be recognized by both Netscape and IE.

  • Portal Forms are not displayed in the new migrated environment.

    Hi All,
We have a distributed Portal environment. Application server and Portal Repository running on one system(System1) and one more portal repository and portal components existing in anothor system(System2). Through DAD we connect to System2 and access the componets. Recently we have done a migration. The Database along the Portal Repository in system2 was migrated to a new server. For this we have edited the DAD and made the necessary changes. But after the migration, the Forms residing in migrated portal repository(System2) are not getting dispayed. The rest of the things(Reports, Pages, Links,LOVs etc..) are working fine. The forms are not getting displayed in the pages where it's added. When forms are run from RUN link in Develop Tab it's showing ERROR but not the cause of the error. Will anyone tell what changes I have to do to make the Forms work?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Tom

    Hi DIAdemUser1,
This feature was indeed removed.  R&D felt like it caused more confusion than benefit, and I agree.  I do apologize to you and others who liked the feature that has now disappeared.  When DIAdem 9.0 released the custom properties in the Data Portal showed their data types, but that feature was also removed in favor of simplicity.  I often miss that feature, but it's for the greater good.

  • DB_REP_JOIN_FAILURE when adding a new replicated environment

    Hello,
I'm developing a replicated system using the Base Replication API. At the moment this works quite well except for the case that I add a new replicated site (Site N).
On Site N I start with rep_start(NULL, DB_REP_CLIENT). After some messages have been transfered between master an Site N, rep_proccess_message's return value is DB_REP_JOIN_FAILURE. Regards Jan

    Hello Jan,
I have two questions for you to start.
    1. What version of BDB are you using? Since 4.6.21, we have changed the code so
that the client would discard and restart. If you could try a more recent version
of BDB you may find it behaves the way you expect. I'm assuming you expect
it to discard whatever is on the client.
    2. The verbose log you posted indicates that the client has substantial amounts
of data and log, that are completely disjoint from the replication group
to which you are adding this client. Where does that log come from? If
this is a brand new client, why isn't its environment and log clean and empty?

  • Unable to open a new DB environment on PQ3

I'm trying to create a new environment on PQ3 processor. The same code worked in x86. The result is like this: function db_env->create succeeds, then function db_env->open
    1) creates files __db.001 and __db.002
    2) remains stuck for less than 1min
    3) removes the created files and returns "DB_RUNRECOVERY: Fatal error, run database recovery"
Thanks in advance for your answer

    Hi Jenia,
The Berkeley DB library optionally outputs a verbose error message whenever it is about to return a general-purpose error, or throw a non-specific exception. Whenever it is not clear why an application call into Berkeley DB is failing, the first step is always to turn on verbose error messages, which will almost always explain the problem. In order to do that, you'll have to configure the Berkeley DB error stream, which can be done like this: DbEnv::set_errfile ( http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/db/api_cxx/env_set_errfile.html )
If you don't have a database environment handle, you can call this on the database handle: Db::set_errfile ( http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/db/api_cxx/db_set_errfile.html )
Please let me know what verbose messages are receiving.
    Thanks,
    Bogdan Coman

  • How to set new Tomcat Environment variable?

I have an imported class used by my servlet that is supposed to look for an environment variable like "xxx.app.logdir". I'm having trouble setting it in Tomcat. I have tried the following (stopping and starting Tomcat with each change):
    1) In \conf\server.xml file, adding under <GlobalNamingResources> <Environment name="simpleValue" type="java.lang.Integer" value="30"/>
    <Environment name="xxx.app.logdir" type="java.lang.String" value="C:\\Tomcat-4-1\\logs"/>2) In my app's web.xml file <env-entry>
      <env-entry-name>xxx.app.logdir</env-entry-name>
      <env-entry-value>C:\\Tomcat-4-1\\logs</env-entry-value>
      <env-entry-type>java.lang.String</env-entry-type>
    </env-entry> 3) In my \bin\startup.bat file
    set xxx.app.logdir=C:\\Tomcat-4-1\\
    4) On my PC's Environment variables.
Nothing has worked. In my code I have the lines
    logMsg("System.getProperty('mmm.app.logdir')=" +
    System.getProperty("xxx.app.logdir"));
    logMsg("System.getProperty('simpleValue')=" +
    System.getProperty("simpleValue")); with the output :System.getProperty('xxx.app.logdir')=null
System.getProperty('simpleValue')=null I've searched forums and the Tomcat docs, but no luck. Any ideas?

I tried that as well, but maybe I didn't define my DefaultContect correctly. Do I need any other parameters? Couldn't find it in the Tomcat docs. <DefaultContext>
    <Environment name="matt" type="java.lang.String" value="value1" />
</DefaultContext>My new code (I simplified the variable name for testing):
    System.out.println("System.getProperty('matt')=" + System.getProperty("matt"));
    System.out.println("System.getProperty('MATT')=" + System.getProperty("MATT"));Results:
    System.getProperty('matt')=null
    System.getProperty('MATT')=null

  • Problems opening existing Oracle 9i in new 11g environment

    Hi everybody,
Have I got a challenge for you! Just to be clear, I'm not an Oracle specialist (or just call me an Oracle-noob).
Challenge: Open up an existing Oracle 9i database in a new Oracle 11g environment.
End result: Be able to connect to a running Oracle database with 'SSMA for Oracle' to convert it to a SQL database.
    Starting point:
    - Received from customer: DBF, CTL and LOG files from an existing Oracle environment.
    - Since I cannot download Oracle 9i environment, I chose to install the 11g environment and hope for a proper backwards compatibility.
    How far I got:
    - Installed 11g environment
    - Configured a database pointing to the DBF files
~ Change init.ora to use the CTL files
    ~ Create spfile from init.ora
~ Startup database mount and rename database and datafiles using sqlplus (connecting with "sys as sysdba")
    Issues:
Now I can startup the database, but it comes up with an *"ORA-00704: bootstrap process failure"* and recommends me to start it up with UPGRADE option. Starting it up with UPGRADE option works and I can browse through the database using the Toad tool (connecting "as sysdba"). But 'SSMA for Oracle' does not have an option to connect "as sysdba" and gives me an "ORA-39710: Only connect AS SYSDBA is allowed when OPEN in UPGRADE mode".
Since the SSMA for Oracle client cannot log me into a database started with UPGRADE option I probably will have to fix the "ORA-00704: bootstrap process failure".
I tried to avoid the upgrade-option by trying to upgrade the database to 11g. But utlu112i.sql and catalog.sql give me errors like "ORA-04023: Object SYS.STANDARD cannot be validated".
    Questions:
    - Do you think that what I'd like to achieve is possible at all?
    - Can I easily run a Oracle 9i database in a 11g environment or do I really have to upgrade?
    - Do you think this is the best way to get an existing Oracle database running in a new environment?
    - If yes: How do I solve the ORA-00704 error?
If you need any more information, alert logs, .ora files or anything to give a proper answer, please ask and I will provide them.
    Thanks in advance!
    Regards,
    Dirco

You can find the Oracle binaries here I think for 9i...
    http://edelivery.oracle.com
No matter which direction you go here you are going to probably run into issues and setup needs that it would probably be better for you to hire a DBA to help out with. In the end it will probably cost you less in your time and effort.
One "quick" method to upgrade a system (depending on your database size) and probably the simplest for you is to do an import and export. However, that will require that the client sends you and export of their database.
You could then simply install the Oracle 11g database on your system and then import the previous database into the 11g instance. With 10g and on they recommend using a product called DataPump, but the import and export utilities are still available for use and I would stick with them for this.
The trick about the import and export is that there are things that you will probably need setup within the 11g instance that mimic the 9i instance to have the import smoothly. Objects get created in areas called tablespaces which are logical abstration of the storage on the system. You will need tablespaces created that mirror the tablespaces on the 9i instance. So for a basic outline.
    1) Get client to create export of 9i instance.
    2) Get client to provide a list of tablespaces on the 9i instance and the size of those tablespaces.
    3) Install 11g on your new machine....in the process allow it to create a database (this is an option).
    4) Create tablespaces that mirror the 9i instance in naming and size on the 11g instance
    5) Do full import into the 11g instance of the 9i dump.

  • Recover /var mount-point into new boot environment

    I installed Solaris 10 u7 with zfs pool containing / mount-point (root)
One issue to mention is that - for no compulsory reason - I asked Solaris installer to place /var mount point into different file system (an option of the installer which I did not fully understood)
I used Live Upgrade to migrate Solaris 10 u7 to U8. First:
    lucreate -c CBE - n NBE
I assume NBE boot environment was created in the zfs pool (rpool)
I did not take care of /var at this time.
I did luupgrade - to apply new Update 8 into NBE - the target boot environment.
Then did luactivate NBE and "init 6" to reboot.
At boot time Solaris does start NBE (Solaris 10 U8) - but cannot mount /var - hence forces console into
    Maintenance Mode.
What is the strategy to use the /var file-system from CBE (old boot environment) ?
    Can I mount file-system of old CBE /var ?
Or should I mount a spare file system as NBE /var and somehow copy it?
Please enlist a series of steps (commands), thanks.

I reinstalled Solaris 10 Update7 - this time with / (root) and /var on same dataset (file system).
This time lucreate and "luupgrade to Update 8" and luactivate ended OK
(no problems with mounting /var after "init 6" reboot)

  • Deploying a new ODI environment

    Hi all,
I need to create a new ODI Dev environment.
I have ever developed several projects that I want to retrieve in my new environment.
So first I would like to import all my connections (physical and logical schema) from my old Master repository to my new one.
Could you please give me tips to do this ? What's the easier way, dump ? mimport.bat ? or another way ?
Moreover my architects team ask me if it can be done without client interaction (only API and scripts). Does anyone know a solution without client ?
To import all my dev's objects I think that Work repository import can be done or object by object import with ODI.
Like you can see I'm a bit confused in this subject, if someone know best practices or Oracle's notes.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Access new SAP environment requirement

    Hi gurus,
We are a large company with ECC ,SRM,SCM, BI/BOBJ and XIPI in place. We are undergoing lots of new SAP projects with differernt consulting companies. Each project wanted to have their owe dev/QA  environment, I would like to put together a requirement list for these vendors which helps me to decide what kind of  environment they need exactly, for example, a new client instead of a new box.
Below are a few things I can think of, please help add more if you have same experience:
1.What is the purpose of the environment?
2.Which SAP modules do you need? ECC, SCM, SRM, EP, PI, BI/BOBJ ?
    3. Project milestone Dates?
    4. Does your project require a copy of production data? Can you use anonymized or scrambled data? Do you need all the data or a subset?
    5. Does your environment/client require its own unique global config, or can you use a client in an existing environment.
    Anything else? Thanks!

    After the first beer:
Learn the difference between client and instance is probably a good thing.
    Second:
What you create is there no matter what client you log into.
    Third:
Instance, and indeed, client landscape is can get very complicated.
    Fourth:
Otherwise I'm very glad to give general advice for nowt

  • How to setup a New Flex environment for an existing project

    Hi,
I am a capable embedded SW engineer but have not used Flex or Adobe developer products before.
I replace a software engineer who left the company at the end of last year and did not generate any design/development document for a flex application that he had created (circa 2011) and that is currently in use by customers.
The development environment was on his personal Macbook so this is gone. My task is to debug and fix problems with built in SQL queries that are not retrieving or writing data correctly. My workaround is to manually edit the dB tables but this is not practical for the customers.
I am English and wish to work with an English language installation but as my location is in Austria and the OS (Win7, 64) is in German it is hard (maybe not possible) to manage the Adobe auto language/region detect.
I include an image of the project directory and the .project file for reference,

I see the <location> string above will need changing but what to, is that the target location for build/debug/development??
So far I have on my C drive, the Apache Flex SDK, AIRSDK_Compiler, apache-ant-1.9.3 and am working through the Flex SDK readme file to download SW and set up the Path variables.
I got stuck on the FlashPlayerDebugger.exe as I cannot find where the Debugger installation is located (ActiveX or Plugin). Now skipping this moving onto the following points.
A real concern is that I am using 64bit OS and how that affects the resulting project when it is to be installed on a 32bit customer server.
