New Samsung SATA hdd not detected by K8T800 Pro

I've been banging my head against this all morning, can't figure it out.
The BIOS I have (which is supposedly the most up to date version according to the live update) doesn't auto-detect the SATA hdd.  My IDE drives are there, an old zip drive is there, etc but it doesn't see the SATA drive.  I'm using an IDE hdd for the OS, the SATA hdd is for back-up purposes only.
Any tips on how to get this damned thing recognized?  I've been following various instructions online for awhile and nothing works so far.

Nonsense about the WD or Samsungs not working by the way. All work, you just need to set them right. And at this time, I wouldn't go for either Seagate or Hitachi. Too many problems with those brands, but that's some point to discuss somewhere else.
Really, nonsense?
VIA have issued a statement on this years ago:
Quote
CHIP FIRM VIA issued a note to its customers telling them of problems with chipset support for hard drives using the Serial ATA II standard.
It said that VT8237 and VT8237R chipsets don't provide forward compatibility for S-ATA II, which is important as hard drive makers are beginning to manufacture this type of drive.
But Via is readying the release of VT8237R Plus, which will solve the problem. This means that motherboard makers that use the former chipset should clear their inventory before September.
Hard drive manufacturers position with S-ATA II is as follows, said Via in its note. Western Digital and Samsung are already shipping these devices, while Seagate and Maxtor will start shipping them during this quarter.
If you connect S-ATA II drives to an old Via chipset which includes the VT8237, VT8237R, VT6420 and VT6421L, the devices won't be detected.
Some mobo makers, such as Epox, have already responded to the problem and have warned their customers to seek the support of hard drive vendors. In a letter to its customers, it said that they should also check the specs of other manufacturers' Via based motherboards.
Do some googling, it has been all over the net for years. I have had a couple of these boards and a fair share of different hard drives. Trust me, not all of them work on this board.

  • SATA HDD not detected in Bios K7n2 ILSR

Hi! I have a MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR and I just bought a new hard drive (sATA) but it is not recognized in BIOS. There are no options to enable sATA mode in the bios and I couldn't install WinXP even after loading the driver (by pressing F6 on the setup). The only way for me to install WinXP is by setting up CTRL-F and setting up an array for RAID BUT even after installing WinXP via RAID, the sATA drive is still not detected in BIOS. Is there any way that I can use the sATA drive without having to RAID it? Hope you guys can help me...Thanks!

Promise SATA/RAID controller on this board is a seperate chip, so BIOS has nothing to do with it.
to use a single SATA drive on this board, press Ctrl+F to set up a striped array and add the single drive to it, install Windows onto the drive, making sure you press F6 when prompted to use the Promise driver on the floppy disk

  • Sata HDD not detected in BIOS in K8MM-v

    Hi!!
I  have an AMD (athalon 3000+) plateform K8MM-v(vial K8M800-CE+VT8237R chipset) having two problems
    1.  NIC doesn't work properly, I inferrred it because the same setting of TCP/IP are working for other system but not for me. Windows always shows Restricted or limited access at nic status.
    2.  SATA HDD is not Detected in BIOS.
System is running with XP Prof. having ram 512MB.

Loading SATA drivers will not make the drive appear in the BIOS
Without knowing what hard disk he has, I can only speculate it is a SATA-II 3gb/s drive, which rarely work with the VIA VT8237/R chipset. You can try jumpering the drive to SATA-I 1.5gb/s mode, but there's still no guarantee it will work.

  • Upgrading HDD - Not detected

    Hello!
I bought a 640GB WD Scorpio Blue HDD from NewEgg for myself for Christmas (:-) and a copy of Snow Leopard, all of which going into my 15" Early 2009 MacBook Pro (No SD Slot). Installation (physical) was a breeze except for the fact that the new HDD does not have the supports sticking out like the original factory HDDs. Therefore, it does not fit properly. That was easily fixed with some folded up electrical tape for the time being. Anyway...I ran the installer and selected restore from Time Machine Backup. I had my external HDD already connected, and it detected it. It took a while to detect the size of the backup (310gb - full HDD) and then it wanted me to choose my new HDD. PROBLEM! My HDD did not show up in the list. I then put my old HDD back in and put the new one in an enclosure to see if it would show up that way - no dice. I went into Disk Utility to see if it was there - No dice. No matter what I do, my computer will NOT detect the HDD. Apple Tech Support was no help - they said to call WDC. I thought of formatting the new HDD, but I can't because it is not detected. What should I do? Please help!
    Thanks!
    Ross

    Apple Support can't help you.
Have you looked at the trouble shooting info on the Internet? For example, you need to be certain the jumpers are correctly set (see http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc.cfg/php/enduser/stdadp.php?p_faqid=3656&pcreated=#jumper )
I'm sure that are lots of other possible problem areas. You should contact NewEgg for technical assistance.
I thought of formatting the new HDD, but I can't because it is not detected.
If you ever get it working, this is the FIRST thing you will need to do. It comes formatted for Windows 7

  • Ms-6741 + SATA HDDs not recognised by xp setup

Hi all, i have been ripping my hair out for 24 hours about this machine.
It is a TINY PC with a MS-6741 mainboard. It previously had 2 SATA HDDs installed, both 200GB. 1 had XP installed on it and the other just data. The OS disk failed, many many bad sectors and errors. I bought a new SATA HDD (WD2500AAJS) and thought i would be able to install xp from either the tiny restore disk, or a standard windows xp disk. But I can't!
First problem (although not the worst) is that the BIOS does not recognise the 250 GB new disk, not one bit. Checked the sata cable, checked the power, checked the disk in another machine; all fine. So after some swearing I decided to copy the data off the data disk and use a disk the BIOS was recognising.
The mobo recognises it fine, but when i get to the xp setup to select disks and partitions it says 'no disk available'.
I did some reading and many people suggest that the XP setup disk doesn't have drivers to make SATA work, they suggest downloading the raid/sata driver from the mobo manufacturer website and pressing F6 at the start of setup, copying the drivers to a floppy and letting xp setup find the drivers and use them. I tried that, i tried both the drivers listed for raid on the MSI support page for this mobo, i tried getting the drivers for the VIA VT8237 SATA controller, they didn't work.
I have tried upgrading the bios, flashing it from a win 98 boot disk, following the instructions on this page http://www.msicomputer.com/support/BIOS_NON_FAT.asp This as far as i can see didn't work, it launched the flash utility fine, said 'deleting' and then 'programming' and said both had completed successfully. I restarted, went into the bios and the bios version hadn't changed. The only difference when i turned it on was that it said 'CMOS settings wrong'.
I am at my wits end, i have no idea what else to try. I read somewhere that TINY used to make their own version of BIOS which only allowed certain HDDs, maybe they stop you flashing the bios, certainly there is no setting in the existing bios saying, 'protect bios' or 'don't allow bios flashing'.
I would greatly appreciate any help.
    Many Thanks
    James

There you have all drivers for your board.
You probably have to make a driver floppy and load it during install with F6

  • 785GTM-E45 SATA HDs not detected by W7 x64 setup

Hi, so I've not been able to install Windows 7 x64 with my two SATA drives. I have tried all three modes IDE, RAID (setting up a raid 1), ACHI and hit F6 followed by F8 at setup to allow unsigned drivers but I get a message stating that no compliant hardware was found after loading the drivers for the SATA controller.
Also, I've disabled my LAN, audio, and even my USB controller and I still get this problem. And I've tried at least 4 different versions of SATA drivers (SB7xx and SB710 ones) from here:
    http://wwwd.amd.com/AMD/SReleaseF.nsf/softwarepages/DriversbyOSChipset?OpenDocument
Should I try to get a replacement board or am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

Well I've reset the CMOS, by removing the battery and clearing the jumper settings but it hasn't made any difference, as well as disabling every other component on the motherboard that I don't need, ie. everything but the IDE DVD drive and the two SATA HDDs.
Yes, both drives are detected under BIOS.
I am using two seagate hard drives which are both this drive:
    http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=n82e16822148040
I put a live CD of Ubuntu 10.04 x86 in and it loaded just fine and it actually detected the drives--even let me format them and copy files to them! I don't understand why it works when Win7 setup can't even detect them.

  • External Hdd not detected

    Hi guys,
I've got this issue where my Macbook Air cannot detect my external hdd (not showing up on disk utility), where as my Mac Mini can. I assume it's a software issue. Both are running OSX Mavericks (Latest edition) and there is nothing wrong with my USB port in the Air (detects my mouse, flash drive etc.).
The hdds' LED no longer flashes when plugged in the Air but functions fine when plugged in the Mac Mini.
Is there any manual reset command (through Terminal) or setting in the Macbook Air without having to factory reset?
Thanks in advance for your help!

If the hard drive is bus powered (it doesn't have an independent power supply) the MBA may not be supplying enough power to the drive. This isn't an uncommon problem. I have a cheap external at work with this problem which I solved by plugging it into a powered USB hub instead of directly into the computer. Had that not worked I'd have tried finding an external power supply for the drive - or junking the enclosure.

  • L520 second HDD not detected by BIOS, why?

    Hi everybody
It appears Schalli and I have same problem: a second hard drive (inserted in an aftermarket caddy) is not detected by BIOS. So you can not boot from 2nd hard drive.
But, if you start the OS (Windows or Linux or even DOS!), the second HDD is seen and works perfectly (no connection issues, full speed etc).
I tried several HDD, also SSD. Also tried removing internal HDD, leaving only HDD in the caddy.
    BIOS is 1.20.
    Can other users please verify?
Lenovo: why is this? Why doesn't BIOS detect the second hard drive?
    Thanks!!!

Same with my machine. So I put my SSD into the original drive bay and moved my HD to my caddy.

  • USB and external HDD not detected by OS X

    Hello.
Since last few months, whenever I plugin a USB pen-drive or an external hard disk, it seems at first that the system has not detected the disk, since nothing shows up in the finder and there is no way to access the disk also. The disk connection is complete since the lights turn on immediately.
When I remove the disks from the port, I get a message that I should first eject it and then remove the disk, which is not possible because I CANT SEE THE DISK ANYWHERE.
Now I plugin the disk the second time and IT GETS DETECTED.
I have to do this with every external storage disk EVERY SINGLE TIME.
Someone please help me find a solution to this problem.
    Thanks.
    Sankalp

    Hi James,
The USB hub will not function on a non-Apple branded monitor without connecting a USB cable from Type-B USB port on your monitor to one of your mac's Type A USB ports. The USB host bus should be beside your Display Port output on the monitor. Generally, a Type A to Type B USB cable will be included with your external monitor.
    Hope that helps.
