New tab default page

Is there a way to set up a google search page to come up when I select "open a new tab". I see options to set it to blank, but not say to the google website. When I open Firefox, it brings up the google site, just not when I hit open new tab. Thank you.

There is currently no option to do this in Firefox 3.6, but I do know it has been suggested as an option in a future version.
However, you can install one of the several extensions that provide this service. These can be found at https://addons.mozilla.org
I use one called '''New Tab Homepage'''
* https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/777/ or http://www.cusser.net/extensions/tabhomepage/
* Firefox 3.0b2 - 3.6.*
* Loads your homepage when you open a new tab.
Very small and simple, just opens your start page when opening a new tab.
There are alternatives if you want it to do something else, just search on AMO. :)
Hope this is helpful!

• Firefox is not opening the "Show All History" Window, images are not loading and part of the new tab default page is not loading up

For about two days now Firefox has been unable to load up images, even in its menus, and the menu buttons do not open up their corresponding windows.
The page that comes up when opening a new tab has the first three webpages displayed, but the second three underneath are blank and the boxes are cut off.
Things like youtube work fine. What could be the problem?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

• Since installing imesh last night, and since uninstalling it, my default New Tab is now the imesh search page. I can't seem to take it out or change it to a different New Tab default page. Any suggestions?

I have been through all the User Defined settings on the about:config page. There is one there that looked promising, but I am prohibited from changing it in about:config.
There is nothing I can find in Tools Options pertaining to what your new tab page setting is, or how to modify it.

• When I open a new Tab the page defaults to an unwanted page.

When I open a new Tab the page defaults to: "http://www.somoto.com/139/%7B666DAB7E-0C0D-4161-9E9E-F4170E4A3EB9%7D?s_src=newtab". My homepage is set to something entirely different. Is it possible to change this default to something of my own choosing?

If I right click on the bookmark and choose " Open in a New Tab", the page loads in a new tab. None of my bookmarks will work by simplying clicking on them from the listing.

• Tools Options changed from drop-down box to new tab full page. Why?

Hello,
Have Windows 7, Firefox Nightly 32.0a1 (2014-05-18) the latest update was a couple of hours ago. Since then, when I go to Tools>Options, instead of the Options menu opening in a drop-down window with General, Tabs, Content, Applications, Privacy, Security, Sync and Advanced at the top, it now opens as a new tab (full page) and of the eight functions, the "Tabs" is missing, the others are down the left side of the page.
Also since this update, I am having problems with two forums, (both hosted by ProBoards) - the icons for links, video. image etc are missing, the "Like" button doesn't work, I cannot preview my posts, the clickable button/box to return to forum is missing. Others on the forum who use Firefox aren't having problems. I'm thinking it is the update causing these problems because they weren't appearing before.
Thank you.

That is the new "Options" display, added in today's Nightly when you go to open Options. '''"Tabs"''' preferences are on the "General" panel.

• When New Tab Canvas/Page?

What is the best way to determine when you user has navigated to a new tab canvas/page when the navigation does not occur by clicking on the tab canvas's Tab? For instance, when the user clicks a button item that navigates to a different tab canvas/page I want to disable the tab canvas/page the user came from.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

• I have TROVI malware kidnap my new tab defaults, how do I remove it and correct it (I have already uninstalled it)

I have also removed trovi from the registry and still every time I open a new tab it goes to Trovi.com
Please help.
Thank you

I had this Trovi thing, too. These are the steps I followed:
I found the directory where it resided, in my case C:\Program Files\Search and Protect and deleted (shift-delete, not recycle bin) the whole directory. Some would not delete because they were in use. Used ctrl-alt-del to start task manager to find those processes and "end process" the ones in use, and got them all, after a few iterations.
In Firefox I restored my home page back to default, so 1st tab not hijacked anymore. Also in Firefox used Manage Search Engines to remove Trovi from the list.
Ran Spybot S&D to clean up remnants of Search and Protect in the registry and elsewhere.
My new tabs were still being hijacked. I found this thread. I looked at the Firefox shortcut I use to start it , but properties were clean. I went and got the suggested Search Reset addon, and my tabs are now clean.
There may be a cleaner way to achieve the same results, but this seems to have killed all traces of it. :)

• Cursor location in new tabs defaults to the omnibox/address bar

I have set new tabs to open google.com (using New Tab Homeage 0.4.3). However, in new tabs, the cursor position defaults to the omnibox/address bar. I want the default cursor location to be the google search field on the web page (if you must know why, it's because I love the lightning-fast search suggestions). I want to just hit CTRL+T and start typing my search. Any thoughts on how to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated.

For the moment don't use enter or tab to move to the next field.

• My new tab pin page is gone and automatically goes to google; how do I get my pin page back?

Usually when I open a new tab in Firefox, I have a page of pinned sites. I must have downloaded something and accidentally disabled it and now I get Google every time I open a new tab, rather than the page with pins. Is there any way to re-download the pin page, or is there somewhere I can go to reactivate it or make sure it's activated? I don't have any Firefox updates.

You can check the browser.newtab.url pref on the about:config page.
See this article about the New Tab page (about:newtab):
Try to reset some preferences to the default with the SearchReset extension:
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).

• I have tried everything suggested to get rid of the "Open a new tab" search page.

I just bought a new computer with Windows7. I downloaded and installed Firefox 18.0.1 about a week ago.
I am trying to get the history icon page to open when I click the "Open a new tab".
Some of the things I've tried (like resetting Firefox and installing the add-on) worked but only until I shut down.
When I load Firefox again, that pesky search page ("Open a new tab") is back.
How can I get the history icon page to stay permanently from day to day?

Open Safari Preferences again and click Tabs. Select: When a new tab or windows opens, make it active.

• When I downloaded new version of firefox, the feature where when I open a new tab a page loads that contains mini-windows containing my most visited sites. where is this feature now!?

So with the new version of firefox I lost the feature where, whenever I opened a new tab, instead of a blank tab page, a page would appear that contained mini-windows containing pics of all my most often used websites. I could then simply click on one of maybe six windows to go directly to my most used sites. What happened to this? I really, really, really miss this feature. How can I get it back?

The Google Toolbar and other extensions for Firefox include a list of compatible Firefox versions. Currently, the Google Toolbar only goes up to Firefox 4. However, people have tested and it actually works on Firefox 5, so there are two workarounds:
(1) Edit a file to revise the range of compatible versions
(2) Install an add-on that lets you ignore the range of compatible versions
This thread has info on both approaches: [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/837142 google toolbar does not work with firefox 5.0. why not! | Firefox Support Forum | Firefox Help].
