New to 10g

Hi,
We plan to migrate our appliction consisting of forms 6i(Reports,Graphics,Forms) and Oracle 9i database to Oracle 10g.
I have a couple of questions about 10g which I couldn't find in the PDF's I am reading.
1)Does Oracle 10g Application Server include Forms and Reports Services or is it a seperate add-on that has to be downloaded and installed?
2)Does Oracle 10g Application Server include OC4J bundled in it?
3)we have a couple of graphics files(OGD),where do I find the 10g graphics services? Is it part of Forms and Reports Services?
4)Where do I find the Forms Migration Assistant? ( Is it part of Application Server? )
Thanks

Certainly this is not the right place to post Application Server threads. I advise you to post it at the AppServer forum.
Forms & Reports are included in AppServer (disks, not licenses), OC4J is embedded, the forms migration assistant is included in the binaries.

  • New OC4J 10g (10.1.3.1) Developer Preview now available for download!

    A Developer Preview of the new OC4J 10g (10.1.3.1) release is now available for download.
    This developer preview release is fully J2EE 1.4 compatible and offers numerous enhancments, including full support for the final EJB 3.0/JPA specifications and Common Annotations (JSR-250) support in the Web container. It also provides a complete Web Services stack with support of JAX-RPC, annotations based development using JSR-181, and attachment support including MIME, DIME and MTOM with support of streaming for large documents.
    See http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/java/oc4j/10131/index.html for details.

    I've tried http://localhost:8888, but I get a "connection refused."
    I have since found the answer. The site http://localhost:8888/ will indeed work. The problem was that the java_home for oc4j was pointing to a Java Runtime Edition of 1.5.0, and so oc4j was not starting, since oc4j only works with 1.4.x.
    Still have the missing info from the readme, though.

  • When will the new OWB 10g release 2 be available?

    HI...
    I would like to know if there is a timetable to
    download in the OTN site about the new version of OWB 10g release 2..
    I saw the the new version of this tool last year in the Oracle Open World and I am very curious to do some test and implement in our production environment.
    We are using OWB 10.1.0.2..
    Thanks

    Good morning Tracy,
    According to Oracle OWB is going to be part of Oracle Business Intelligence... at some stage in the future.
    Right now BI10g consists of the following (check link at http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/index.html):
    Oracle Business Intelligence
    ... Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer
    ... Oracle HTTP Server
    ... Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE (OC4J)
    ... Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Application Server Control
    ... Oracle Application Server Web Cache
    No OWB10gR2 as you can see.
    Metalink rang me earlier this week for some TAR, and they were hoping to see OWB10gR2 released this year... this implies that we have to count ourselves lucky if that means december. At the moment they're working hard to get a stable product out, guess there are more serious bugs to solve than they had anticipated on previously.
    Cheers, Patrick

  • Install new repository 10g XE

    Hi all.
    I am having trouble when trying to "meet" all requirements for installing new repository.
    Since I am in learning phase of all what is Oracle I don't know how to solve the problem.
    When I try to install new repository instance, i recive error - "you don't have select on sys.v_$parameters, ..cannot proceed".
    I managed to grant myself all privileges except "Required object privileges", they are all unchecked. I tried to grant them logged in as system user but then I get "ORA-01031: insufficient privileges".
    So what am I doing wrong, any ideas or links "how to install...".
    Thx in advance.
    bye.

    Yes designer repository.
    Sorry I thought it's the only one(if there are other repositories).
    Anyway the one you need to start Designer. When trying to launch designer it gives me message "This user does not have an installed Repository. Invoke the Repository Admin. utility".
    So Oracle 10g XE doesn't have this option?

  • New to 10G / LOGMINER

    I am using XP pro, Oracle 10G.
    How do I get access to Logminer using EM ???
    Thanks

    10.2.0.3 for AIX is a patch installation. You first need to install 10.2.0.1 and then patch it to 10.2.0.3.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oem/htdocs/aix5lsoft.html
    The installlation gives you the choice of installing the whole thing in one hit.
    i.e:
    OMS=Oracle Management Server (Java user interface + more)
    OMR=Oracle Management Repository (Database based on Oracle RDBMS 10.1.0.5)
    OMA=Oracle management Agent (The bit that collects information from managed targets)
    Alternatively you can pre-instal the latest Oracle RDBMS and install the SYSMAN schemas into that database, then prform an OMS installation on a different server if you so wish.

  • NEW THREAD: 10G SFP+ Auto-Negotiating to 1G?

    Can a 10G SFP+ SR optic plugged into switch "A" AUTO-NEGOTIATE to 1G to support a 1G SFP SR optic plugged into switch "B" at the other end of the fiber cable?
    In short, what I am asking is whether a 10G SFP+ optic (SR/LR - doesn't matter) can be connected with fiber (of course) to a 1G optic and negotiate DOWN?
    If not, how do I connect that 1G sfp+ optic to a 10G sfp+ switch port?
    NOTE: I know Cisco SFP+ optics only operate at 10G and Cisco SFP optics operate only at 1G. But my question is a general question about SFP/SFP+. From my understanding, SFP+ CANNOT (regardless of vendor) negotiate down to 1G because the SFP+ standard defines a speed range between 4.25 Gbps to 16Gbps. Can someone verify?

    Here is one common Optic SFP that does do both 1G and 10G:
    Intel E10GSFPSR and
    Intel E10GSFPLR
    http://www.intel.com/content/dam/doc/product-brief/ethernet-sfp-optics-brief.pdf
    http://www.intel.com/support/network/adapter/pro100/sb/CS-030612.htm (expand section 1)
    I know for certain that they do support both 1G and 10G as for quite a while I ran these SFPs with Cisco GLC-SX-MMD, and eventually (now) Cisco SFP-10G-SRs.  No config changes or modifications were required to support this functionality.
    This was in a UCS server with a supported Cisco UCS Intel X520 card.

  • OS/HARDWARE/SAN CHOICE FOR NEW ORACLE 10G INSTALL

    I know pieces of this post have been asked in different ways so I will be as concise as possible.
    We are loolking to implement an ERP in our company using Oracle Apps or SAP with Oracle 10G as the databse. We are a windows shop but will be hiring a Unix admin and DB admin for the ERP.
    Our DB is currently only about 400 gig and our transaction volume is fairly low with 100 users and only accounting type transactions.
    The current dilemma is what combo of hardware/os/san to use to optimize ease of administration, scalability and failover.
    We are considering Redhat/Dell using a netapp san. One of our consultants favors a IBM solution front to back with p servers/IBM storage and aix.
    Several questions....
    1. Any advantage to AIX or HPUX over Redhat anymore ?
    2. Any advantage to IBM and HP over Dell for our needs and transaction volume ?
    3. RAC or just enterprise oracle ?
    4. Netapp san or EMC, HP, IBM etc
    4. Dataguard or Netapp snapshot etc for uptime (or both)?
    5. Any opinions on using 1 NETAPP SAN for both oracle db data and windows user data ?
    I am looking for opinions, places to research or anyone who has used this config in a ERP for a mid to large sized company to chime in, please.......!!!

  • Making new oracle 10g cluster in redhat enterprise linux

    Hy All
    i have installed redhat enterprise server in 2 systems and both are attached with SANE network storage. i want to configure oracle 10 g clustering with this setup.
    should i have to configure clustering in linux only or there is a feature of clustering in oracle?
    if yes than how to do that? i dont have any idea about oracle
    please somebody help me
    with regards,
    ali

    Hi Ali!
    Hardware clustering is differnet from Oracle clustering.
    If you have the database you should investigate RAC http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/to_toc?pathname=rac.102%2Fb14197%2Ftoc.htm&remark=portal+%28Administration%29
    For the Application Server have a look at http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_18/core.1012/b14003/toc.htm
    Hardware clustering with RedHat could be achieved with Piranha.

  • Oracle 10G New Feature........Part 1

    Dear all,
    from last couple of days i was very busy with my oracle 10g box,so i think this is right time to
    share some intresting feature on 10g and some internal stuff with all of you.
    Have a look :-
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Oracle 10g Memory and Storage Feature.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    1.Automatic Memory Management.
    2.Online Segment Shrink
    3.Redolog Advisor, checkpointing
    4.Multiple Temporary tablespace.
    5.Automatic Workload Repository
    6.Active Session History
    7.Misc
    a)Rename Tablespace
    b)Bigfile tablespace
    c)flushing buffer cache
    8.ORACLE INTERNAL
    a)undocumented parameter (_log_blocks_during_backup)
    b)X$ view (x$messages view)
    c)Internal Structure of Controlfile
    1.Automatic memory management
    ================================
    This feature reduce the overhead of oracle DBA.previously mostly time we need to set diff oracle SGA parameter for
    better performance with the help of own experience,advice views and by monitoring the behaviour
    of oracle database.
    this was just time consuming activity.........
    Now this feature makes easy life for oracle DBA.
    Just set SGA_TARGET parameter and it automatically allocate memory to different SGA parameter.
    it focus on DB_CACHE_SIZE
    SHARED_POOL_SIZE
    LARGE_POOL
    JAVA_POOL
    and automatically set it as
    __db_cache_size
    __shared_pool_size
    __large_pool_size
    __java_pool_size
    check it in alert_log
    MMAN(memory manager) process is new in 10g and this is responsible for sga tuning task.
    it automatically increase and decrease the SGA parameters value as per the requirement.
    Benefit:- Maximum utlization of available SGA memory.
    2.Online Segment Shrink.
    ==========================
    hmmmmm again a new feature by oracle to reduce the downtime.Now oracle mainly focus on availablity
    thats why its always try to reduce the downtime by intrducing new feature.
    in previous version ,reducing High water mark of table was possible by
    Exp/imp
    or
    alter table move....cmd. but on these method tables was not available for normal use for long hrs if it has more data.
    but in 10g with just few command we can reduce the HWmark of table.
    this feature is available for ASSM tablespaces.
    1.alter table emp enable row movement.
    2.alter table emp shrink space.
    the second cmd have two phases
    first phase is to compact the segment and in this phase DML operations are allowed.
    second phase(shrink phase)oracle shrink the HWM of table, DML operation will be blocked at that time for short duration.
    So if want to shrink the HWM of table then we should use it with two diff command
    first compact the segment and then shrink it on non-peak hrs.
    alter table emp shrink space compact. (This cmd doesn't block the DML operation.)
    and alter table emp shrink space. (This cmd should be on non-peak hrs.)
    Benefit:- better full table scan.
    3.Redolog Advisor and checkpointing
    ================================================================
    now oracle will suggest the size of redo log file by V$INSTANCE_RECOVERY
    SELECT OPTIMAL_LOGFILE_SIZE
    FROM V$INSTANCE_RECOVERY
    this value is influence with the value of FAST_START_MTTR_TARGET .
    Checkpointing
    Automatic checkpointing will be enable after setting FAST_START_MTTR_TARGET to non-zero value.
    4.Multiple Temporary tablespace.
    ==================================
    Now we can manage multiple temp tablespace under one group.
    we can create a tablespace group implicitly when we include the TABLESPACE GROUP clause in the CREATE TEMPORARY TABLESPACE or ALTER TABLESPACE statement and the specified tablespace group does not currently exist.
    For example, if group1 is not exists,then the following statements create this groups with new tablespace
    CREATE TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp1 TEMPFILE '/u02/oracle/data/temp01.dbf'
    SIZE 50M
    TABLESPACE GROUP group1;
    --Add Existing temp tablespace into group by
    alter tablespace temp2 tablespace group group1.
    --we can also assign the temp tablespace group on database level as default temp tablespace.
    ALTER DATABASE <db name> DEFAULT TEMPORARY TABLESPACE group1;
    benefit:- Better I/O
    One sql can use more then one temp tablespace
    5.AWR(Automatic Workload Repository):-
    ================================== AWR is built in Repository and Central point of Oracle 10g.Oracle self managing activities
    is fully dependent on AWR.by default after 1 hr, oracle capure all database uses information and store in AWR with the help of
    MMON process.we called it Memory monitor process.and all these information are kept upto 7 days(default) and after that it automatically purge.
    we can generate a AWR report by
    SQL> @?/rdbms/admin/awrrpt
    Just like statspack report but its a advance and diff version of statspack,it provide more information of Database as well as OS.
    it show report in Html and Text format.
    we can also take manually snapshot for AWR by
    BEGIN
    DBMS_WORKLOAD_REPOSITORY.CREATE_SNAPSHOT ();
    END;
    **The STATISTICS_LEVEL initialization parameter must be set to the TYPICAL or ALL to enable the Automatic Workload Repository.

    Benefit:- Now DBA have more free time to play games.....................:-)
    Advance version of statspack
    more DB and OS information with self managing capabilty
    New Automatic alert and database advisor with the help of AWR.
    6.Active Session History:-
    ==========================
    V$active_session_history is view that contain the recent session history.
    the memory for ASH is comes from SGA and it can't more then 5% of Shared pool.
    So we can get latest and active session report from v$active_session_history view and also get histortical data of
    of session from DBA_HIST_ACTIVE_SESS_HISTORY.
    v$active_session_history include some imp column like:-
    ~SQL identifier of SQL statement
    ~Object number, file number, and block number
    ~Wait event identifier and parameters
    ~Session identifier and session serial number
    ~Module and action name
    ~Client identifier of the session
    7.Misc:-
    ========
    Rename Tablespace:-
    =================
    in 10g,we can even rename a tablespace by
    alter tablespace <tb_name> rename to <tb_name_new>;
    This command will update the controlfile,data dictionary and datafile header,but dbf filename will be same.
    **we can't rename system and sysaux tablespace.
    Bigfile tablespace:-
    ====================
    Bigfile tablespace contain only one datafile.
    A bigfile tablespace with 8K blocks can contain a 32 terabyte datafile.
    Bigfile tablespaces are supported only for locally managed tablespaces with automatic segment-space management.
    we can take the advantage of bigfile tablespace when we are using ASM or other logical volume with RAID.
    without ASM or RAID ,it gives poor response.
    syntax:-
    CREATE BIGFILE TABLESPACE bigtbs
    Flushing Buffer Cache:-
    ======================
    This option is same as flushing the shared pool,but only available with 10g.
    but i don't know, whats the use of this command in prod database......
    anyway we can check and try it on test server for tuning n testing some query etc....
    SQL> alter system flush buffer_cache;
    System altered.
    ++++++++++++++++++
    8.Oracle Internal
    ++++++++++++++++++
    Here is some stuff that is not related with 10g but have some intresting things.
    a)undocumented parameter "_log_blocks_during_backup"
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++
    as we know that oracle has generate more redo logs during hotbackup mode because
    oracle has to maintain the a complete copy of block into redolog due to split block.
    we can also change this behaviour by setting this parameter to False.
    If Oracle block size equals the operating system block size.thus reducing the amount of redo generated
    during a hot backup.
    WITHOUT ORACLE SUPPORT DON'T SET IT ON PROD DATABASE.THIS DOCUMENT IS JUST FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSE.
    b)some X$ views (X$messages)
    ++++++++++++++++
    if you are intresting in oracle internal architecture then x$ view is right place for getting some intresting things.
    X$messages :-it show all the actions that a background process do.
    select * from x$messages;
    like:-
    lock memory at startup MMAN
    Memory Management MMAN
    Handle sga_target resize MMAN
    Reset advisory pool when advisory turned ON MMAN
    Complete deferred initialization of components MMAN
    lock memory timeout action MMAN
    tune undo retention MMNL
    MMNL Periodic MQL Selector MMNL
    ASH Sampler (KEWA) MMNL
    MMON SWRF Raw Metrics Capture MMNL
    reload failed KSPD callbacks MMON
    SGA memory tuning MMON
    background recovery area alert action MMON
    Flashback Marker MMON
    tablespace alert monitor MMON
    Open/close flashback thread RVWR
    RVWR IO's RVWR
    kfcl instance recovery SMON
    c)Internal Structure of Controlfile
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    The contents of the current controlfile can be dumped in text form.
    Dump Level Dump Contains
    1 only the file header
    2 just the file header, the database info record, and checkpoint progress records
    3 all record types, but just the earliest and latest records for circular reuse record types
    4 as above, but includes the 4 most recent records for circular reuse record types
    5+ as above, but the number of circular reuse records included doubles with each level
    the session must be connected AS SYSDBA
    alter session set events 'immediate trace name controlf level 5';
    This dump show lots of intresting information.
    it also show rman recordes if we used this controlfile in rman backup.

  • Forms 10g rel.2: new behaviour when accessing the db and not logged on

    If I start a form and I'm not connected, then I have a problem with one of my standard-logon-routines.
    This behaviour is new in 10g rel.2 I think.
    If I start a function on the db and the form is not connected I get a FRM-92101 - There was a failure in the forms server during startup...
    This is a migrated form, which runs in 6i, 9i, 10g rel.1, but not in rel. 2.
    Who nows a workaround ?

    see my post in this thread:

  • Performance problem with sdn_nn - new 10g install

    I am having a performance problem with sdn_nn after migrating to a new machine. The old Oracle version was 9.0.1.4. The new is 10g. The new machine is faster in general. Most (non-spatial) batch processes run in half the time. However, the below statement is radically slower. The below statement ran in 45 minutes before. On the new machine it hasn't finished after 10 hours. I am able to get a 5% sample of the customers to finish in 45 minutes.
    Does anyone have any ideas on how to approach this problem? Any chance something isn't installed correctly on the new machine (the nth version of the query finishe, albeit 20 times slower)?
    Appreciate any help. Thanks.

    create table nearest_store
    as
    select /*+ ordered */
    a.customer_id,
    b.store_id nearest_store,
    round(mdsys.sdo_nn_distance(1),4) distance
    from customers a,
    stores b
    where mdsys.sdo_nn(
    b.geometry,
    a.geometry,
    'sdo_num_res=1, unit=mile',
    1
    ) = 'TRUE'
    ;

    Dan,
    customers 110,000 (involved in this query)
    stores 28,000
    Here is the execution plan on the current machine:
    CREATE TABLE STATEMENT cost = 81947
    LOAD AS SELECT
    PX COORDINATOR
    PX SEND QC (RANDOM) :TQ10000
    ROW NESTED LOOPS
    1 1 PX BLOCK ITERATOR
    1 1ROW TABLE ACCESS FULL CUSTOMERS
    1 3 PARTITION RANGE ALL
    1 3 TABLE ACCESS BY LOCAL INDEX ROWID STORES
    DOMAIN INDEX STORES_SIDX
    I can't capture the execution plan on the old database. It is gone. I don't remember it being any different from the above (full scan customers, probe stores index once for each row in customers).
    I am trying the query without the create table (just doing a count). I'll let you know on that one.
    I am at 10.0.1.3.
    Here is how I created the index:
    create index stores_sidx
    on stores(geometry)
    indextype is mdsys.spatial_index LOCAL
    Note that the stores table is partitioned by range on store type. There are three store types (each in its own partition). The query returns the nearest store of each type (three rows per customer). This is by design (based on the documented behavior of sdo_nn).
    In addition to running the query without the CTAS, I am also going try running it on a different machine tonight. I let you know how that turns out.
    The reason I ask about the install, is that the Database Quick Installation Guide for Solaris says this:
    "If you intend to use Oracle JVM or Oracle interMedia, you must install the Oracle Database 10g Products installation type from the Companion CD. This installation optimizes the performance of those products on your system."
    And, the Database Installlation Guide says:
    "If you plan to use Oracle JVM or Oracle interMedia, Oracle strongly recommends that you install the natively compiled Java libraries (NCOMPs) used by those products from the Oracle Database 10g Companion CD. These libraries are required to improve the performance of the products on your platform."
    Based on that, I am suspicious that maybe I have the product installed on the new machine, but not correctly (forgot to set fast=true).
    Let me know if you think of anything else you'd like to see. Thanks.
