New to coding!!

Hey there lovely peoples!
Okay, I'm completely new to coding!! I realy want to get into it though. So my question is where to start? I already have dreamweaver installed, and I've found a great deal on a classroom in a book cs4 book. So my question is this: Being a COMPLETE novice (as in I know NOTHING!) will this book help me to learn coding at all? And if not, where is the best place to begin?

To make websites using Dreamweaver, you need to learn and understand HTML and CSS. Both are fairly easy to learn and you can do a lot of this using books as well as on your own. Go to any website and copy the URL. Then go to the W3C Markup Validation Service and paste the URL. If the website passes, you have a website that has code that is good and compliant with the accepted standards of the Worldwide Web Consortium.

If you have a website that works, you can get all of the code from that website from any web browser by navigating in the browser's menu to view the source.
In the source file of any website that has an external style sheet, you'll see something like this:

If you click on the CSS file in your browser, you can get to the style sheet. Both the HTML source code and the style sheet can be copied and pasted into Dreamweaver, and you can see what the person who made the website did. Of course you won't get graphic files or photos, but this can be a great learning tool.
Another outstanding learning tool is built in to Dreamweaver.
From the menu, go to File>New, choose Blank Page, HTML and pick a layout from the selection. The pages will be heavily commented and so will the resultant style sheet.
That should get you started doing elementary stuff.

I am way impressed - not just by your code and how fast you produced it, but also by the speed with which you grasped the STRIDE documentation and put it to very good use.
Regarding the question you ask at the very end - this question goes to the heart of why protein tertiary structure (the actual 3-dimensional shape of one chain of a protein) is so hard to predict, and why governments, universities, and pharma are throwing so much money at it.
If protein primary and secondary structure were many-to-one, prediction of protein tertiary strructure would be a lot lot simpler. (For example, if "VVAY" and all "similar" primary structure subsequences mapped to the same secondary structure.)
But the mapping is, unfortunately, many-to-many because the amino acids (AAs) in a primary structure chain always bond the same way - the COOH (carboxy) of one AA bonds to the HN (amino) of the next one to produce C-N with the OH and H going away to make a water moleculre ... COOH - HN ---> C-N + H20.
And as pointed out by Linus Pauling (the discoverer of protein secondary structure), the C-N bond can take two forms:
a) one that is llkely to force the two amino acids to become HH (part of a helix)
b) one that is likely to force the two amino acids to become EE (part of a "stand")
You may be surprised to find out that even primary structure subsequences of six amino acids can wind up as different secondary structures - not always "H" vs "E", the variants might be

If you Google him, you'll see that he has written many many books on bioinformatics - all worth purchasing if you're going to become involved in this area. Arthur was at Cambridge (MRC) until recently, when he reached mandatory EU retirement age and took a position at Penn State here in the US.

HELP I'M NEW TO CODING BUT HAVE A PROJECT (BASIC)

I'm trying to build a code for a project. It's very simple.
I need to use either a random number generator which generates numbers 1 to 3 or I need to be able to enter a number in. Depending on whether the number is 1, 2, or 3, will determine what will happen.
For number 1, a green light will go on and a dialogue box with pre-entered text will pop up.
For number 2, a green light and red light will go on as well as another dialogue box with pre-entered text.
For number 3, a green light, red light, and two different dialogue boxes will pop up.
I really need help fast.. Thank you!

That's not a LabVIEW question anymore, but a math question. Generating random numbers is something that should be taught in any basic programming class.
The random number generator gives a number from 0 to 1. Zero is part of the data set, 1 is not. So 0 to 0.999999999..
You want a range of 1, 2, 3 integers only.
Multiply by 3. Now you'll have a number from 0 to 2.999999 ....
Add 1, Now you'll have a number from 1 to 3.99999999....
Round down towards -infinity Now you'll have 1, 2, or 3.

Palm Desktop "hiding" some of my new events

I've used Palm Desktop for about two years on my old laptop and had no problems. Now that I got a new laptop and couldn't find the intall CD, I had to download the Desktop package off the website (Windows XP Home version). I went to add in new events on my calendar and everything worked fine until I went to "edit Categories" for the events. I added a new category and assigned my events to this category, lets say "x". Now for every event that I add in ANY category except for the three standard ones that come with the software (personal, business, etc.), the desktop software hides all the event information. The time block for the event is still shaded in on the day view but it is almost transparent instead of a solid color and the information like the event name and location does not appear on the calendar. Also, if I go to week or monthly view of my calendar, there are no color blocks and it looks as if Ihave no events. I've checked all the buttons I could think of. The events are not marked private and my view tab says to show private records anyway. I wouldn't mind if this were only an aesthetic problem but the most important thing that I need to fix is that I can no longer edit these "hidden " event on palm desktop. Once I sync with my handheld (zire 72) everything is perfect. all the events are normal and i can edit them on there. but while on palm desktop, i can not even select these "hidden" events to edit or delete them. They are obviously taking up space since if i try to add asecond event in the same time slot, it splits the screen for that day and time slot appropriately but there is NO WAY for me to select these events and change them. HELP PLEASE!

I had the exact same problem today after adding a new color-coded category. I tried uninstalling and reinstall the Palm desktop software. That did not fix it. Finally, I found that I could again view my events by doing the following: edit or create a new event, select "category", use the dropdown to select "edit categories", delete all categories and assign existing events to "unfiled". This must be some software defect perhaps related to the number of categories. I hope they will give us a fix.

Coded UI -VSTS 2012 How to get the tab details from UITabContainerPane(UI Test Control)

I am quite new to Coded UI. I am trying out the possibility of Coded UI for Spotfire Report Validations which is available in web portal. I have three tabs on my web page. How can get the list of tabs and act on each. In the recorded script i could see that
under UITabContainerPane I can see the tab coming under UITabContainerPane(UITestControl). I am not sure from this parent how will i get the childs to get access to each tabs. Please advice.

Hi CPU usage in ABAP coding

I have a custom program (programmed by somebody else) which is churning away all day long and consuming between 50% and 70% CPU as seen in the 'top' command. I'm on HP-UX with 8 CPUs installed. The CPU usage is consistently at this level. (I matched the PID from SM50 with the PID in 'top')
I ran abap traces in ST12 which found that between 60% and 70% of the time was spent in the following coding:

I guess the idea here is to just find the number of rows in GIT_ZTABLEA for certain conditions.
Is there a simple and less intensive way of achieving this?

sorted table ... is the usual answer but not in this case.
You should check the IN P_DRTNFG "FLAGﾞ(SELECTION CRITEREA) ?
What does it mean? I don`t undterstand the flag.
With the IN conditions I doubt that there is any optimziation possible, it will always scan.
If the two IN-flag are really flags then it should be possible to write equal condition
and get something
WHERE k = a AND z1 = b AND z2 = c.
The can be solved with sorted tables.
And from the coding you show with will exit after the first solution, so a READ would then also
be enough. The LOOP is only used because the WHERE is only possible with the LOOP.
but a LOOP is not really necessary because it check only the first solution.
So please revise the logic.
Then it will become really fast.

In visual studio 2012 coded Ui test is not entering the URL

Hi,
When i try to run the recorded script it is opening the new tab but it is not entering the new URL in to tab. It is showing test has failed due to some stack trace error. I am new to coded UI test am learning it. Is it timing error i need to place some sleep
time in between them?

Generally, the coded UI test is used to verify that the whole application, including its user interface, is functioning correctly. Coded UI Tests are particularly useful where there is validation or other logic in the user interface, for example in a web
page. They are also frequently used to automate an existing manual test.
In other words, we can use coded UI test to verify the UI control instead of verifying the URL.

However, if you want to record script it is opening the new tab and then entering the new URL in to tab, I suggest you can use the Web Performance test to record and verify the request works correctly.

Coding C in Xcode?

Hi guys, I started studying Computers Engineering. I got a programming class and its a C course. I have worked quite a bit with C++ in the past. But I don't know very much about C.
In XCode when I start a new project, what kind of document should I choose for C programming ??
PS: I also have to make a programming project to solve a real "engineering problem" for the end of the semester ( nothing very complex ) , and It can also be an app for the ordinary user and not focused for engineering purposes. Any ideas? I would love to hear suggestions since I am pretty new to coding.

Tool" from the "Command Line Utilities" section when
you make a new project with Xcode. That choice is for
the ANSI C type of program you're most likely to
start out with in a class.

IPhone 5s BLE updata rate

This is a copy of a post I just put on TI's E2E forum...
I just got an iPhone 5s so I could test compatibility with a custom app/custom BLE circuit...
Note: after fixing some iOS7 issues, everything works fine on ALL BLE capable iPad and iPhone devices from Apple.
Again, all devices (except iPhone 5s) work with iOS5, iOS6 and iOS7. (just to be completely accurate, iPhone 5 and iPad 4 and mini's were not tested with iOS5)
My apps are using multiple BLE devices connected simultaneously.
When testing with the new iPhone 5s (note also that I tested with a second iPhone 5s just to make sure it was not my phone specific), the sampled data seemed to be rather "sluggish" and in fact would continue to be collected by the iPhone 5s even after the input from the transmitting devices ceased. (apparently caching)
Another note: with 3 devices transmitting simultaneously, I can capture sample rates up to 50 samples/sec for each transmitting device with the iPhone 5 and the iPad 4, and when I increase the sample rate on the transmitting devices (tested up to 1000 samples/sec) the iOS devices "topped out" at appx 50 samples/sec which is currently acceptable for my current application so I set the BLE transmitting devices to 50 samples/sec to conserve battery life. The indicators on the app which are affected by the sample rate are responsive an (snappy) as the data changes and when sending more than 50 samples/sec, the "extra" data is apparently being disregarded (dropped) as the "real time" indicators are using the most recently transmitted data with no apparent "caching".
Note: apps were compiled with xcode5 in both iOS6 and iOS7 - no difference in testing.
When testing with only one device, transmitting at 50 samp/sec, if I continue transmitting long enough, I can get the BLE connection to fail (over running a buffer?). I have to lower the transmission rate down to 20 samples/sec or lower to let the iPhone 5s "keep up". this is rather disappointing as the iPhone 5s (64 bit) is supposed to be so much faster and I fear that the new iPad to be announced this month may have the same issues if it follows the iPhone 5s architecture.
I downloaded the current iOS keyfob app from TI's wiki (remember to change type:CBCharacteristicWriteWithoutResponse]; to type:CBCharacteristicWriteWithResponse];), and got 2 of my TI keyfobs and programmed them with the latest "keyfob" code (BLE-CC254x-1.3.2 stack), one with no changes (ACCEL_READ_PERIOD 50) 20 samples/sec, and the other one changed to (ACCEL_READ_PERIOD 20) 50 samples/sec. - you can even change to a faster sample rate to see a more dramatic depiction of what I'm describing.
Connect each of the keyfobs in turn and shake them and watch the "bars" and you can see the "delayed" reaction - (cached). The 20 samples/second keyfob is more responsive but you can still see a small amount of delay even down to 20 samples/sec.
I also got out 2 of my "SensorTags" and repeated the same tests with the same results just to see if there was something in the older keyfob code that might be causing this vs. the newer styled coding the SensorTags utilize, but again, the results are the same which points me back the the iPhone 5s.
I can't find anything from Apple's side about the way the 5s may be different but it appears that the 5s caches BLE data and all the rest of Apple's previous devices apparently do not. Also, I could not find anything in the iOS or xcode side that gives any options for turning caching on or off (if that is indeed what is really happening), but even if that were the case, the exact same code (iOS) can be run on all devices with only the 5s being different.
Any thoughts out there?
I think that this should be important to anyone out there who plans on collecting "real time" data and wants to be able to support the latest hardware...
I'd be happy to give more detail on any of the tests I've done if you are unable to replicate this.

How do i get my navbar to stay on one line when the browser window is minimized?

I am new to coding and have just created my first website in html and css. I know that the coding is pretty dire and that I have a lot to learn and hope that someone can guide me in how to solve this problem. When the browser window is minimized, the navbar breaks down into 2 or 3 lines but I want the navbar to fit to the window whatever the size of the client machine.
I think I need to add a media query but i'm not sure if i do and if so what code to use and where to put it?
I am worried that the page will only be viewable properly on a desktop and i really want to learn how to make a fluid layout which can be viewed on 320px, 768px and 1200px.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I can't create a javascript saveas for radiobox

I started this discussion in acrobat windows forum and I think I should have put it here so I'm reposting it.
First, I want to say thanks for helping.
I am new to javascript and coding in general, but I feel that I have been learning and picking up the coding from sites like this. I am making a form using adobe acrobat pro 3D 8.1.0. I have a combobox that I have a list of a bunch of locations. The combobox is set to export a 3 or 4 letter or digit result that is unique to that site. I have then set up a saveas on blur following the selection. This is all working correctly.
However, I several hundred radioboxes and textboxes in the document. This document will be used for acceptance testing and I do not want to accidentally lose any data so I want to save after every selection or input in the textboxes.

I was struggling with the saveas and I don't want to create a new file everytime so I created a hidden textbox that has the file name. I was hoping that I could just read this textbox and saveas using the original filename. (The script above uses time in the filename so that would create a new file name every second) The hidden text box is getting the values correctly and is working fine.
I have tried several different methods of javascript on the radio buttons and text text boxes. On the radio button I have tried all mouse options, but I was hoping to use mouse up. The textboxes I want to use mouse, on blur. Below is some of the scripts that I have tried. I want it to be automatic and I want it to overwrite everytime without prompts.

George, thanks for the reply. I am new to coding and I really don't know much about folder level scripts. However, I did create the following trusted saveas script which I saved as a .js in adobe. Is this what you are refering to?

I did try refering back to this script once, but I wasn't able to get it to work.

Populate drop-down list from multiple text fields.

Just to begin, I am brand new to this application and brand new to coding in general. Anyways, this is what I am trying to accomplish. I need to populate a drop-down list from multiple text fields. I am able to populate one item using this in the calculate event:
TextField1.rawValue
After I type text in TextField1 and hit enter, it displays the text in the drop-down list. I need to do this but with more than just one text field to populate more options for the drop-down list. I will also need to do something similar with populating a drop-down list from selections made in multiple other drop-down lists.

Thank you for your suggestion Geo Kaiser. With that, I was able to populate my drop-down lists, but now when I select an option from the drop-down list, the selection dissapears. The selection will appear briefly in the box but then dissapears although my drop-down list options remain there. Here is the code I am using for my text field to drop-down list:
DropDownList1.clearItems()
DropDownList1.addItem(TextField1)
DropDownList1.addItem(TextField2)
And here is my code for my drop-down list to populate another drop-down list:
DropDownList3.clearItems()
DropDownList3.addItem(DropDownList1)
DropDownList3.additem(DropDownList2)
