New to flash, errors in actionscript compile

Hello all. I'm adding a small .swf object (XSPF Web Music Player) to a site I'm working on. I need to add two lines of code to make external javascript calls, so, I guess I need to re-compile the actionscript (please forgive me, I'm extremely new to flash). I'm using MTASC to compile at the command line. I'm getting errors at the start of the file, pretty much at the first thing not-commented. The .as file is posted here http://pastebin.com/f3c4a4a03 and it produces an error(characters 0-4 : parse error Unexpected stop ) at stop. As I'm new to flash, is there anything you guys see in there which would make it break at stop()? or any other pointers at all?

I would really like to be able to upgrade my system at some point in time and i kinda like the multilib thingy so does anyone have a clue as to what to do?

Flash gives me an error when I compile after I 'Saved As' the FLA with new file name

This seems weird. My code worked in the original FLA (using AS3) but when I 'Save As' as a new doc,
It gives me a compiling error below:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
at flash_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()
Any ideas why this happens?
Does it have to do with path to the Library? Is there a way to reset this within Flash or do I have to copy and paste the code to a totally new AS3 file?

It doesn't specify what line the error takes place.
The weird thing is...
when I copy and paste the code on a totally new AS3 document and rebuild the movie clips within that document, it works fine.
but for some reason...when I 'Save As' to a new file name, it's like it doesn't acknowledge the MovieClips in the Library anymore..
It's kind of frustrating...
Not really a show stopper....but it does waste some time.
I don't know if you run into anything like this before.

Xcode Error won't compile any new projects!?

If you can help, please do. I have been having this problem for a whole day now and its really becoming a pain in the head.
Whenever I create a new project (Im working in C and Objective-C) even if don't write any code and just try and run the starter ("hello world") code it returns this error....

Command /Developer/usr/bin/gcc-4.2 failed with exit code 1
So far what I have done is;
Completely uninstalled Xcode and its Library's using the command line in Terminal
Installed the new version of Xcode (3.2.3)
Result: Error message is still there...
I have absolutely no clue what to do.

Netconnection Debugger not tracing when exporting from Flash 8 with Actionscript 2.0

Ok, Sorry for the long post, but given my research , I wanted
to be clear on the problem and what I have done to address it.---
anyone who has gotten the NetConnection Debugger to work with Flash
8 and actionscript 2.0 on a PC, your help will be greatly
appreciated
When I compile a Flash 8 swf with AS 2.0 the it does not seem
to import the class properly to utilize the net connection
debugger.
I spent a considerable amount of time getting it to work on
My Mac, but on the PC , none of my calls to the debugger are
working.
I have a very simple file that has the following code:

I do not get any errors for the imports, and the files are
where they need to be. ( see the end of the message to see the
directory structure for both the mac and the pc versions of this)
When I first installed the remoting components on my
macintosh, the Net Connection Debugger would not work. I eventually
took my 2004 Classes and overwrote the mx.remoting.debug folder in
the
usr/Library/Application Support/Macromedia/Flash
8/en/Configuration/Classes/mx/
then after restarting flash and the debugger.swf.. it worked
on the mac.
I have tried the same thing on the PC on three separate
machines.
The latest PC is a brand new clean machine.
These are the steps I have followed:
I installed Flash 8 professional
I installed the remoting components
I created a test file with the code from above
I opened the debugger
I exported the file, ............... nothing traced
I then copied the as Class files from my mac and overwrote
the files in the classes directory for mx.remoting.debug
in both these directories.
c:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application
Data\Macromedia\Flash 8\en\Configuration\Classes\mx\
and in c:\Program Files\Macromedia\Flash 8\en\First

After a restart of flash and the debugger I am still not

Is there any way to mimic a Fatal Error in Actionscript?

One thing I've noticed about Flash is that there doesn't
appear to be any way to throw a fatal error in Actionscript. If I
want my flash application to halt completely in a given situation,
there's not really anything I can do to stop all code execution is
there? Also, is there any sort of modal dialog (like an Alert()
message in Javascript) in Flash? At the very least, it would be
nice to stop everything and send the user a message they can't
ignore when my code fails.
This is made more difficult by the fact that I'm trying to
write some Actionscript class files -- they don't have any library
items associated with them that I can depend on for user interface
elements.
Any suggestions about how to STOP ALL CODE EXECUTION and send
a MODAL DIALOG MESSAGE to the user would be *much*
appreciated.

Where is flash remoting in actionscript 3.0\flash cs5

hello everybody,
i have been looking throught all the available tutorials on this site including flash cs5 help, actionscript 3.0 developer's guide, learning actionscript 3.0 and i can't seem to find anything relating to flash remoting (i.e how to retrieve and send data to and from a server like coldfusion). has it been removed?
i have solutions that were built with flash and actionscript 2.0 that uses data retrieved from coldfusion server for it's operation, i was thinking of migrating them to actionscript 3.0, but it keeps saying that the classes, packages or interfaces like mx.remoting, mx.rpc can not be found. even when i create a new flash document specifying 2.0 as the docuent type, it is still not compiling,. does this mean i have to revert to flash 8\actionscript 2.0 because that is what i built the programs with. please any information or guidiance will be highly appreciated.

To do it in AS2 you need just install the remoting classes again. You can either copy them fro your old install or get them:

Flash Error in IE with HTML

I have created a web design and integrated some simple Flash
elements. I used Dreamweaver.
One of my testers is getting an IE (IE 6) error (like the
flash is not initially loading properly, but then it does).
I have tried saving the Flash as version 6 & 7. The flash
has no actionscript, they are static. Anybody have any suggestions?
I can't reproduce the error.

It is possible to get the text that has been selected by the user and check that this is within the textarea. You will need a bit of javascript to handle this, something like:

selText gets set to the text highlighted by the user - you need to get this in different ways depending on the browser being used, hence the first if() statement. Older browsers may not be able to expose the selection text as this is fairly new javascript functionality (version 1.2, I think).
fieldText gets set to the text contents of the textarea (which has an id of "MyTextAreaField" in the above example).
A simple indexOf() check will tell you if the text selected is part of the fieldText string.
Obviously, you can change the alerts at the end to whatever you want to do.
Both the setText and fieldText variables will only contain text - all tags etc are ignored.
There may, of course, be instances where the user has highlighted text outside of the textarea that just happens to be in the textarea as well. Other than continually watching what the user does with the mouse or keyboard (as text can be highlighted using both), you'll have to live with these.

about bugs and workarounds. But what I cannot understand is that #53398 was
released without any information about possible reasons for this problem or
suggested workarounds. My first reaction after reading this bugreport was to
open a new case at CallCenter to get more information about it. Please
release more information with your bug reports !

Technote 11398 Read Only Workspace Errors using ListViews or ActiveX
control
SCENARIO:
Getting some unusual interpreter errors that result in an error stating
that
the workspace has been set to read only. Please see Enclosures for the
two
most common error stacks that have been encountered. The abbreviated
versions of the errors are:
- Can't read record (record size = -1)
- Id in index does not match id in record header in data file
- Recursive deserialization attempted.
- Unknown Mark type in deserialization
- Could not read record (64,74615) from repository data file.
Header
is corrupt.
These errors can be happening in either the development environment when
running from one of the development workshops, or with the deployed
application.
The bug outlined in this Technote may be the culprit if the errors above
are
seen when running a client on Windows NT or Motif and the user interface
incorporates ActiveX controls or ListView/TreeView widgets.
CAUSE:
Basically what is happening is that in rare circumstances Forte may invoke
a
nested copy of the interpreter while the first interpreter has yielded.
This
is not a problem in and of itself, but in the case where the original
interpreter was in the middle of a repository fetch when it yielded, and
the second interpreter needs to fetch code as well, we will get one of the
errors listed above, depending on the exact timing. The reason for the
errors is that the repository code at this level is thread-safe but not
re-entrant. It is protected by a mutex that is already owned by the
current task. Which, given the scenario outlined here, where the two
interpreters are running inside of the same task, results in the nested
interpreter being allowed to change data out from under the first.
While for every fetch one or more calls to WindowSystem.Yield will be made
(this is there to prevent the semblance of system lock-up on Win 3.1,
where
Yield is the only way other applications can be allowed to run), there is
a parameter which controls how often to actually yield, which by default
is
set to one out of every 100 calls. This is the reason the problem is
intermittent--you need a yield to occur during a repository fetch
which starts another interpreter which also needs to fetch code from
disk.
The reason this has only surfaced recently is that the nested interpreter
scenario can only happen in 2 cases that we know of:
- ActiveX controls which respond to events/Windows messages
- Outline fields/ListViews with column(s) mapped to virtual
attributes
In all other normal cases, the yield can process the message (typically a
paint message) without starting another interpreter, so regardless of
whether
the first interpreter yielded during a repository operation or not, there
is
no conflict.
SOLUTION:
The workaround is to prevent yields altogether by setting the
FORTE_YIELD_THROTTLE environment variable equal to 0 in the client's
environment. This should have no detrimental effects since the yield code
is in place solely for Windows 3.1x clients.

Technote 11225 Don't reparent mapped Widgets between UserWindows at
runtime
It is sometimes tempting to unparent a widget from one UserWindow and
reparent
it into another at runtime. However, this can cause crashes if the widget
(or
its decendants) are "mapped" to data. Here's why...
Suppose you have two UserWindows, UW1 and UW2. UW1 contains a DataField
(DF1)
which is mapped to a TextData. UW2 contains a RadioList (RL2) which is
mapped to
a scalar Integer. At compile time, every mapped attribute is internally
assigned
a "Map ID" (a small integer) which is used to tie the Widget to its
corresponding attribute. These Map IDs are used by the Widget to look up a
pointer to their data in a "Map" which is maintained by the UserWindow.
Each
UserWindow is assumed be to independent of the others, so there is nothing
wrong
with Widgets in different UserWindows being assigned the same Map IDs.
In
this
case, let's assume that DF1 and RL2 both got assigned the same Map ID of
3. No
problem so far, since each lives in a separate UserWindow with a separate
map.
Now suppose at runtime the application "detaches" or unparents DF1 from
its
UserWindow and reparents it somewhere into UW2. When it comes time for DF1
to
paint itself the Display System it must ask the Runtime System for the
value of
DF1's mapped attribute. To do that it says "give me the value of the
TextData
for DF1. You'll find it in the Map for this UserWindow (UW1), and its Map
ID is
3". When the runtime system goes to do this it expects to find a TextData
in
this "slot" of the map, but instead it picks up the integer which is
mapped to
RL2. At best this leads to bad data being returned; more likely you get a
segfault and a crash.
If DF1 was not a mapped attribute (say, a Rectangle) there would be no
problem
because there is no data mapped to a Rectangle. If instead of moving DF1
you
created a brand new DataField on the fly there would be no problem,
because the
dynamic DataField would not have any Map ID and so couldn't conflict with
any
IDs in UW2.
So how do you solve this problem? This is exactly what Nested Windows are
all
about. While you can't move DF1 into the middle of UW2, you can nest
UW1.
This
works because UW1 brings its map with it, and when you access DF1 it knows
to
look up its value in UW1's map.
UserWindows are intended to be the "unit of compilabilty" that can be
nested
inside other UserWindows. It is dangerous to "transplant" anything from
inside
one UserWindow into another at runtime.
(Note that you can't avoid this problem by cloning DF1 because the MapID
gets
copied along with it, and the clone will fail in the same way.)

Scenario : You have two UserWindows, A and B. When Window A starts up, it
instantiates an instance of B and reparents some component of B into A's
window
hierarchy.
This is not allowed and almost always leads to an error at best or at
worse a
segmentation fault.
Here's why :
When you compile a UserWindow in Forte, each "mapped attribute" (whether a
form
element or menu element) is assigned an internal ID which represents an
offset into
that UserWindow's table of mapped attributes. This offset is only valid
in the
context of the UserWindow in which it was compiled. If you detach a
FieldWidget or
MenuWidget from one compiled Window ("tmpMenu" for example) and then
parent
into another compiled window ("tmpWindow") the internal ID comes with it.
When Forte tries to make use of that copied widget it uses the ID as an
offset
into tmpWindow's table of mapped attributes. But that copied offset is

In this case it found that the data type of the variable in the slot
wasn't
what
was expected. But you might even index off the end of the table and get a
segmentation fault.
There is nothing to prevent you from dynamically creating menu items and
adding
them to a window at runtime; that will work fine. Although of course you
can't
access them via mapped attributes, since those can only be created at
compile time.
But you are not allowed to reparent a widget from one compiled UserWindow
into
the hierarchy of another.

Thanks for your email but I think it will be interesting for Brenda not me.
It is exactly what I have expected from Forte Support: detailed information
about bugs and workarounds. But what I cannot understand is that #53398 was
released without any information about possible reasons for this problem or
suggested workarounds. My first reaction after reading this bugreport was to
open a new case at CallCenter to get more information about it. Please
release more information with your bug reports !

bug #53398 is not a bug which will likely get fixed, it's an informational
bugreport.
You might see an errorstack like Brenda has reported (and described in
informational
bugreport #53398) probably when you are doing something illegal that is
possible
via Forte Tool but Forte is not trapping it for performance reasons. Hence
you will see
the error coming from your illegal operation only at runtime, probably
only
while
running interpreted in the Forte IDE, but in worst case it might be even a
segmentation
violation.

But maybe Brenda is much more experiencing a problem as described by Forte

Technote 11398 Read Only Workspace Errors using ListViews or ActiveX
control
SCENARIO:
Getting some unusual interpreter errors that result in an error stating
that
the workspace has been set to read only. Please see Enclosures for the
two
most common error stacks that have been encountered. The abbreviated
versions of the errors are:
- Can't read record (record size = -1)
- Id in index does not match id in record header in data file
- Recursive deserialization attempted.
- Unknown Mark type in deserialization
- Could not read record (64,74615) from repository data file.
Header
is corrupt.
These errors can be happening in either the development environment when
running from one of the development workshops, or with the deployed
application.
The bug outlined in this Technote may be the culprit if the errors above
are
seen when running a client on Windows NT or Motif and the user interface
incorporates ActiveX controls or ListView/TreeView widgets.
CAUSE:
Basically what is happening is that in rare circumstances Forte may invoke
a
nested copy of the interpreter while the first interpreter has yielded.
This
is not a problem in and of itself, but in the case where the original
interpreter was in the middle of a repository fetch when it yielded, and
the second interpreter needs to fetch code as well, we will get one of the
errors listed above, depending on the exact timing. The reason for the
errors is that the repository code at this level is thread-safe but not
re-entrant. It is protected by a mutex that is already owned by the
current task. Which, given the scenario outlined here, where the two
interpreters are running inside of the same task, results in the nested
interpreter being allowed to change data out from under the first.
While for every fetch one or more calls to WindowSystem.Yield will be made
(this is there to prevent the semblance of system lock-up on Win 3.1,
where
Yield is the only way other applications can be allowed to run), there is
a parameter which controls how often to actually yield, which by default
is
set to one out of every 100 calls. This is the reason the problem is
intermittent--you need a yield to occur during a repository fetch
which starts another interpreter which also needs to fetch code from
disk.
The reason this has only surfaced recently is that the nested interpreter
scenario can only happen in 2 cases that we know of:
- ActiveX controls which respond to events/Windows messages
- Outline fields/ListViews with column(s) mapped to virtual
attributes
In all other normal cases, the yield can process the message (typically a
paint message) without starting another interpreter, so regardless of
whether
the first interpreter yielded during a repository operation or not, there
is
no conflict.
SOLUTION:
The workaround is to prevent yields altogether by setting the
FORTE_YIELD_THROTTLE environment variable equal to 0 in the client's
environment. This should have no detrimental effects since the yield code
is in place solely for Windows 3.1x clients.

Technote 11225 Don't reparent mapped Widgets between UserWindows at
runtime
It is sometimes tempting to unparent a widget from one UserWindow and
reparent
it into another at runtime. However, this can cause crashes if the widget
(or
its decendants) are "mapped" to data. Here's why...
Suppose you have two UserWindows, UW1 and UW2. UW1 contains a DataField
(DF1)
which is mapped to a TextData. UW2 contains a RadioList (RL2) which is
mapped to
a scalar Integer. At compile time, every mapped attribute is internally
assigned
a "Map ID" (a small integer) which is used to tie the Widget to its
corresponding attribute. These Map IDs are used by the Widget to look up a
pointer to their data in a "Map" which is maintained by the UserWindow.
Each
UserWindow is assumed be to independent of the others, so there is nothing
wrong
with Widgets in different UserWindows being assigned the same Map IDs.
In
this
case, let's assume that DF1 and RL2 both got assigned the same Map ID of
3. No
problem so far, since each lives in a separate UserWindow with a separate
map.
Now suppose at runtime the application "detaches" or unparents DF1 from
its
UserWindow and reparents it somewhere into UW2. When it comes time for DF1
to
paint itself the Display System it must ask the Runtime System for the
value of
DF1's mapped attribute. To do that it says "give me the value of the
TextData
for DF1. You'll find it in the Map for this UserWindow (UW1), and its Map
ID is
3". When the runtime system goes to do this it expects to find a TextData
in
this "slot" of the map, but instead it picks up the integer which is
mapped to
RL2. At best this leads to bad data being returned; more likely you get a
segfault and a crash.
If DF1 was not a mapped attribute (say, a Rectangle) there would be no
problem
because there is no data mapped to a Rectangle. If instead of moving DF1
you
created a brand new DataField on the fly there would be no problem,
because the
dynamic DataField would not have any Map ID and so couldn't conflict with
any
IDs in UW2.
So how do you solve this problem? This is exactly what Nested Windows are
all
about. While you can't move DF1 into the middle of UW2, you can nest
UW1.
This
works because UW1 brings its map with it, and when you access DF1 it knows
to
look up its value in UW1's map.
UserWindows are intended to be the "unit of compilabilty" that can be
nested
inside other UserWindows. It is dangerous to "transplant" anything from
inside
one UserWindow into another at runtime.
(Note that you can't avoid this problem by cloning DF1 because the MapID
gets
copied along with it, and the clone will fail in the same way.)

Scenario : You have two UserWindows, A and B. When Window A starts up, it
instantiates an instance of B and reparents some component of B into A's
window
hierarchy.
This is not allowed and almost always leads to an error at best or at
worse a

Here's why :
When you compile a UserWindow in Forte, each "mapped attribute" (whether a
form
element or menu element) is assigned an internal ID which represents an
offset into
that UserWindow's table of mapped attributes. This offset is only valid
in the
context of the UserWindow in which it was compiled. If you detach a
FieldWidget or
MenuWidget from one compiled Window ("tmpMenu" for example) and then
parent
into another compiled window ("tmpWindow") the internal ID comes with it.
When Forte tries to make use of that copied widget it uses the ID as an
offset
into tmpWindow's table of mapped attributes. But that copied offset is

About in tears from new adobe flash player 10.3 not working

After installing the new Adobe Flash 10.2.153.1 on my Windows7 64 bit computer, it can not be found when using my IE8 (does not show 32 or 64 bit only 256-bit).
I have uninstalled using your reference on "please read: when asking Flash Player questions" and then reinstalled. It is on the programs list as installed but when I go to a site that needs me to use Adobe Flash it says I need it install it. Whn I go to the adobe web site to verify that I have installed Adobe Flash it only has a box with a small red x in the corner.
I have updated my devices drivers. I do not completely understand what a "kill-bit" is; however, I have gone into my registry and there is no registry keys that have {d27....etc}. There are many other numbers and most have a compatibilty flag of 0x00000400. So I must not have a "kill-bit" for Flash Player set. Not sure what that means.
Can you help me? And have I given you enough info?

*Shockwave Flash Object installed and Enabled. version 11.5.7.
* Yes at medium now (was at med high)
* have mcafee but just installed tonight your recommended microsoft security essentals (did a quick scan tonight)
* C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash - FlashInstall (txt file) and Install (txt file)
* No error messages - was told it was installed successfully

but when I installed SQLServer2005, with that MSXML 6.0 Parser is Installed.
It is working fine before instalation of SQLServer2005.

can any one know what solution for this problem. It is very help full for me.

So look at your code and find out what you are passing to the TransformerFactory. Then find out why it's null. Don't just sit there and say "Duh", it's your code.
And remember that nobody but you can see it yet. If you like you could post it here and then others could see it and comment on it.

Excel extractor produces error "Error 8 when compiling the upload program"

I am trying to test a new Excel extractor I've created but when I do so I get the following error:

Error 8 when compiling the upload program: row 446, message: A newer version of data type /BIC/B0000788000 was
I've tried reactivating transfer structures and transfer rules but with no success. When I activate the transfer structures I can see in the status bar briefly a message refering "Activating Structure /BIC/B0000788000". I am assuming it's the technical name of the structure which supports the extraction.
Any ideas?

OK, I can see your point. The Communication structure fields have data types, CHAR, CURR and DATS (those are the data types for the info-objects I am trying to load).
But if I try to assign the same data types to the objects of the transfer structure which match the flat file I get errors like "Invalid data type (DATS) for source systems of type Ext. System.". What I understand this means is that I cannot use data types other than CHAR in the flat file structure so how can I assign data from a CHAR flat file to a DATS destination object? Do I need some kind of conversion? How? Do I really need a routine in the transfer rules?

Error 8 Implies
The last words should be read as "was found in a newer version".
The system says that the active version of your Infosource is older then another version.
I'd recommend to delete Infosource - Source system assignment (with PSA tables etc.).
Then save (activate) the Infosource (communication structure). Then assign source system, create infopackage and load data again.

Goto se38 and Run the program RS_TRANSTRU_ACTIVATE_ALL and relogin..

What would be the cause of the error, would it be related to the way I create the datasource and the table? Or other causes, please help. Thank you.

It's difficult to tell solely by the messages. One there seems to be a problem finding a base class. One thing that I notice is that the package seems to contain 'book' with a lower case 'b' as in:
EJB name: BookBean.EJB under LibraryEJBProject\book
Whereas all the error messages are saying that they are having trouble finding something with a package name like 'Book' with a capital 'B'.
Perhaps that is the problem, the package has to be consistently 'book' or 'Book' and can't be both.
