New to Jdeveloper

I'm new to Jdeveloper and the guy training me has told me to write some code that will send me a question that says "Whats your name?" Then i would enter "Ryan" the client would then send the response ryan over the network. Then the "server" or what ever the client is sending its message to would come back and say "Hello Ryan" So im not asking for the code im asking for like how you setup a client to send Ryan and a server to take ryan add hello ryan in front of it. Actually im going to be doing off 127.0.0.1 so in reality its not going over the network but this will look like it. So what feature in Jdev would have this capability?

Hello Vande:
I'm fairly new to JDeveloper myself so take my advice with care... :)
* JDeveloper comes with an embedded OC4J so that takes care of your server side. Just right-click on the main jspx page of your project and select "Run". JDeveloper will launch the OC4J container, deploy your app, and launch your default browser.
* Go to the ADF Learning Center (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/adf/learnadf.html) and do/read the stuff on the left-hand side. When done, read it again and repeat as necessary.
* An alternative (and very good) read is "Oracle JDeveloper 10g for Forms & PL/SQL Developers". Read it and then read it again (I'm on my 2nd read).
* Experiment.

    Hi Rohit,
You dont have to create a connection to deploy in embedded oc4j. You can simply right click on the jsf page and run.

  • New to JDeveloper - cannot find the configuration file

    Hello,
I'm new to JDeveloper and have been following a couple of the tutorials on OTN. I have just been through one called Business Components Programmatic Client Tutorial which attempts to teach you how to create a batch client for some customer orders. I've got a workspace with two projects. One holds the business components and the other holds a Java application. Basically, when I try to run it, I get the following errors :
oracle.jbo.JboException: JBO-33001: Cannot find the configuration file /OnlineOrder/common/bc4j.xcfg in the classpath
         at oracle.jbo.client.Configuration.loadFromClassPath(Configuration.java:237)
         at oracle.jbo.common.ampool.PoolMgr.createPool(PoolMgr.java:192)
         at oracle.jbo.common.ampool.PoolMgr.findPool(PoolMgr.java:348)
         at oracle.jbo.client.Configuration.createRootApplicationModule(Configuration.java:951)
         at bcbatch.Batch.main(Batch.java:21)
    Exception in thread "main"
Process exited with exit code 1.
I know that the createRootApplicationModule procedure is trying to instanciate an an application module of the type specified and the configuration file exists at :
    E:\JDeveloper\jdev\mywork\bcbatch\OnlineOrder\src\OnlineOrder\common\bc4j.xcfg
My classpath is set to :
    E:\<Oracle_home>\jdev\mywork\bcbatch\OnlineOrder\src
so its hard to see why it can't find \OnlineOrder\common\bc4j.xcfg from there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Joe

Make sure your bc4j application project is compiled. To verify see that the .xcfg file exists in the classpath of the "client-project" / outpath of the Bc4j project.

  • New Osborne JDeveloper 3.0 book? Reviews?

Well, I see the new Osborne JDeveloper Book is available on Amazon ( 3/30/2001 ). The single review posted there was less than flattering.
Anyone else have a chance to go through it yet?

OK, so humbly put in my place, I decided to order a copy of the "Oracle JDeveloper 3 Hanbdbook". Sure enough it claims to have been updated for JDev 3.2 and it is pretty well written and easy to read. It's also pretty much your only choice at this point. It is, though, very basic (as it clearly states). A good introduction to the tool, particularly if you come from another Oracle tool or have not used Java before. I can't imagine looing at it again after you have completed your first project however. Don't expect to get tips and tricks, strategies for complex construction scenarios or workarounds for common difficulties. It is much more of a "this is how to use the wizard" sort of book.
We really need something a bit more meaty and for myself, once again I would like to say that I would love to pay for a book on BC4J. A whole book. On nothing else. BC4J is really quite complex and you need to understand it under the covers to do anything more than the simplest of applications (ie. anything outside the tutorials).
IMHO, The Handbook is a well-written and helpful book that successfully achieves its stated purposes, but would not be a useful addition to the bookshelf of most developers on this newsgroup.

this release is very good, especially with the new jdk1.4.1beta9!
very very fast compare to netbeans.
i only have one big problem with cvs.
i'm using cvs with ssh and everything works fine on the command line and in netbeans.
in jdeveloper, i was able to create the connection and checkout the module.
but any commands after the the intial check doesn't work.
    get ta permission denied error.
seems like it is not using ssh, even though i configured it to.

  • Starting a new project - JDeveloper 11.1.2.1.0 or 11.1.1.6.0 ?

    Hi,
I am a little bit unclear as to which of the latest JDeveloper releases (i.e. 11.1.2.1.0 and 11.1.1.6.0) to use when embarking on a new project. I understand that the SOA development extensions are not part of the 11.1.2.1.0 release, but then there are features in each of these releases that are mutually exclusive.
Is there a matrix table somewhere that compares what is available (and what is not) for each of these releases?
What is the "official" recommendation as to which one to use and is this decision based solely on whether you will be using SOA?
Can someone explain the reason(s) behind the need for two separate JDeveloper branches (11.1.2.* and 11.1.1.*) ?
And finally, I understand that these two releases will eventually be merged into a single release 12c. Is this correct?
    Thank you in advance!
    Nick

    Nick
till now i did not find one :(
At the time the other thread was started, the answer would be easy summarize as use 11.1.1.x.0 if you want to use SOA, WebCenter, or BPM, use 11.1.2.x.0 if not (my interpretation)
Now with 11.1.1.6.0 available it's not as easy as some new features are available in this version which are missing in 11.1.2.1.0 right now. Somewhere I read (can't remember exactly where) that some of the new features in 11.1.1.6.0 are back ported to the upcoming 11.1.2.2.0 release. Hm, this makes me think, which are back ported and which will be missing. As long as I don't now this I really can't give an advice in any direction. This it at least true if you don't have some constraints (e.g. I need to use JSF 2.0, or I need SOA) which make the decision easy.

  • Unable to view Object Gallery when clicked File - New Menu JDevelop 10.1.2

I am using JDeveloper( ver 10.1.2.0.0 build 1811) on Windows 2000
when I click on CTRL-N the New Gallery doesn't appears.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks

I found by myself the solution. In file ide.properties there are two var MainWindow.x and
MainWindow.y. If this vars have negative values the Gallery Window desappear.
    Example:
    MainWindow.x=-4 // wrong
    MainWindow.y=-4 // wrong
    MainWindow.x=68 // OK
    MainWindow.y=51 // OK

  • New to JDeveloper/ADF, need to create a UI Mockup for a Version Control app

    Hi,
I have experience with Java/J2EE, however I'm new to both JDeveloper and ADF and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction with what I'm trying to accomplish/start. We are working on a new application for a client and to kick start things I need to come up with a User Interface Mockup of a Version Control system we're going to create. It should be nothing fancy, and not very functional (for the time being) but should use some dummy data (preferably from a text file - just for demo purposes), be a one-page layout, and use Oracle ADF components (folder tree, datagrid, data view, xml view to be specific). Of course, it is requested that this all be done using JDeveloper/Oracle ADF. I was able to install both of these (it seems ADF is bundled with JDev), however that's about as far as I got. What steps do I need to take in order to come up with something simple like this? When I loaded up JDeveloper there are alot of options when creating a new project and I'm not sure what to choose. ANY help would be appreciated.

Thanks! This is exactly what I was looking for.
However, I'm having some trouble figuring out how to set up my Data Controls for the dummy data. I'd basically like to set up the entire page as follows:
A column on the left that displays a tree as follows:
    Folder 1
         ...File 1
         ...File 2
         ...File 3
    Folder 2
         ...File 1
         ...File 2
    Folder 3
         ...File 1
         ...File 3
         ...File 4
         ...File 5
    ..etc
The right side of the screen will have 3 "columns" or borders that will take up the entire screen, from top to bottom:
    List of Versions (large column)
    Version Data (smallest column)
    Version Text (large column)
    List of Versions:
When the user selects a "File" from the tree, a datagrid will appear that displays all versions of the selected file with columns like "File Name", "Version", "Date", and a checkbox to select a row.
    Version Data:
When the user selects a row using the checkbox, some relevant version info will display here. This info will come from the database when the final version of the app is written using various fields from the "Files" tables
    Version Text:
When the user selects a row using the checkbox, some relevant version CODE (possible to display code neatly?) will display here. This info will come from the database when the final version of the app is written using a field from the Files table that has not been seen yet
How would I go about setting something like this up? Using the sample you provided earlier, the example just has main categories on the left. I'm confused how to set up a fell fledged tree and then to incorporate the functionality I described above.
    ANY help would be appreciated.

  • New to JDeveloper, having problems with EJB tutorial.

    Hi,
I'm new to the world of JDeveloper, I'm trying to follow this tutorial
    http://st-curriculum.oracle.com/obe/jdev/obe11jdev/ps1/ejb/ejb.html
    Firstly when I create an entity from a table I get the following error;
    Starting Offline Database Synchronization
    Generating classes for Entity CbsdSecurity...
    Entity generation for CbsdSecurity failed.
I'm not really sure why this is, however I suspect this is at the heart of the problems.
    If I continue I can get to the point where I create a EJB Diagram, however when I try to drag my autogenerated class onto the diagram I get the following error;
"Entity does not belong to Persistence Unit xxxxEJB which is associcated with Diagram EJB3.ejb_diagram"
In addition the log at the bottom has the following warnings.
    23-Sep-2010 10:07:46 oracle.security.jps.internal.credstore.ssp.CsfWalletManager openWallet
WARNING: Opening of wallet based credential store failed. Reason java.io.IOException: PKI-02002: Unable to open the wallet. Check password.
    23-Sep-2010 10:07:53 oracle.adf.share.jndi.ReferenceStoreHelper getReferencesMapEx
WARNING: Incomplete connection reference object for connection:fcs2ukd
Now my database connection doesn't seem to remember the password even though I have ticked the 'remember password' tick box.
I am developing under Windows XP using JDK1.6.0.21
If anyone could point out what I'm going wrong I would be very grateful.
    Thanks

  • How to enable ojc compiler in new oracle jdeveloper 11g IDE

    Hi,
we can compile java files using ojc compiler in Jdeveloper 10g IDE.
I need this option in New Jdeveloper 11g IDE.
Can any one tell me how to enable the ojc compiler? ( I need detailed steps to enable ojc compiler)
I got class version error while i compile using javac in new Jdeveloper 11g IDE.
(Class file size also differ from both compiler)
So that, I want ojc compiler in new Jdeveloper 11g IDE.

I guess you can't. The ojc compiler is not part of jdev 11g, javac is the tool of choice.

  • The New Oracle JDeveloper 11g R1 (11.1.1.1.0) is Now Available

Yes... very good. Unfortunately though, it seems fussy about which version of the latest JDK WebLogic uses (on Windows that is). 1.6.0_14 throws "was unexpected at this time" ... So I guess I'll reinstall with the bundled JDK.
Works fine on Linux and OSX though using local JDKs.
More importantly for me... OSX.. as that's my main platform, as that had real problems with the last version. Running out of memory and all sorts... really frustrating. I was very close to throwing in the towel and going back to .NET. So far it 'seems' ok. I'll post any problems I encounter.

    Hi,
In previous versions i had no problems but with the new 11.1.1.1.0 version i can not get updates. If i go to Help -> Check for Updates and click next i get an error that JDev can not connect to the Internet. If i click cancel the details link shows the following error stack:
    java.net.UnknownHostException: www.oracle.com
         at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.connect(PlainSocketImpl.java:177)

All other internet traffic is no problem and the previous jdev release can connect without a problem. If i add www.oracle.com to my /etc/hosts file i does work but then i can not login to otn in the next steps. Any ideas?

  • 'WHEN-NEW-FORM-INSTANCE-trigger' in JDeveloper/ADF/JHeadstart

    Hello,
I'm new to JDeveloper/ADF with JHeadstart.
I want to execute a PL/SQL-procedure when the application starts. I've added the method to execute the PL/SQL-procedure to the Application module class.
How can we execute this method?
    Thanks in advance.
    Richard Teunissen

    Richard,
When using security, it is easier to add a servlet filter to your application that only calls the PL/SQL procedure when user just logged in , which is start of new session.
Without security, it is easier to do it each time you enter a new page.
You can drag and drop the app module method on your page, then create an invokeAction in the executables section of your page definition that executes the method binding, and set the refreshCondition of the invokeAction to #{!adfFacesContext.postback}.
See ADF Developers guide, sections 8.4, 17.3 and 10.5.5 for more info:
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/html/B25947_01/toc.htm
Now, if you are new to ADF this might sounds a bit cryptic, I strongly recommend you take some class on ADF, for example the ADF/JHeadstart workshop:
    http://blogs.oracle.com/jheadstart/workshop
JHeadstart is a great help when moving from Forms to ADF, but you still need to learn how ADF works, to be able to fully leverage the power of JHeadstart. It is like generating Forms using Designer, thevbetter you know Forms, the more advanced functionality you can generate using Designer. The JHeadstart generator is very flexbile, using custom templates you can generate almost anything you want, but it requires knowledge of ADF Faces, JSF, ADF bindings and ADF Business Components to create those templates.

    JHeadstart team.
