New update destroys quick look on raw images?

got a new mountain lion update today-- supposedly something about raw image handling??
and now quick look is messed up for raw images, preview also..........it only shows whites.....like all my photos are washed out....the only way to view raw images now is in PS
can i undo the update i did this morning...or is there some other work around?

1. First off, you must have a backup.  If you don't ALL YOUR WORK WILL EVENTUALLY BE LOST!  I strongly recommend you go to an Apple Store or authorized service center, or http://www.apple.com/usergroups/ and have someone direct you how to find your hard disk capacity, and then determine the hard disk to buy from http://www.macsales.com/ for your backup.
Your capacity is what you want to purchase externally.  Once you have that,
get Carbon Copy Cloner from Download Version 3.5.2.
Once you configure Carbon Copy Cloner to select the source and destination, you'll be greeted with these options:
Select Customize these settings:
Make sure Deleted immediately is selected in the first pulldown, and Overwritten in the second.
Once this is done, you never have to do anything more than click on clone in the bottom right, when you attach the external hard disk.
I recommend you do this before trying to download the corrected RAW drivers.   When you know this, please come back, and someone can direct you where to download it.
Backing up is not an option.  All media fails eventually.

  • Bridge won't update and doesn't display raw images from my Sony cameras.

Using new Win8.1 laptop that recently have displayed Sony Raw images.Using PS CS6 stand alone which does nothing when asked to update. Adobe asked for ID verification which I did but didn't help.

Camera Raw version 7.x only works with CS6.
You need Camera Raw 7.3 (CS6) or DNG Converter 7.3 or Lightroom 4.3 to open your 6D raw files, because it did not exist before these versions. Camera Raw updates are not usually provided for old versions of Adobe software.
Propriety raw format support can only be added after a new camera's release, unless manufacturers broadly adopt the DNG format as an alternative. Fortunately, DNG Converter is free, and you can use this to create DNG files from your Canon's raw files, to be opened in any version of CS/Lr.

You need to download and install Camera Raw 6.7.1 for CS5. Once you have downloaded it, you need to install it while CS5 is closed.
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows : Camera Raw 6.7.1 Update
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 6.7.1 Update
Once downloaded, unzip/unpack the file, and run the executable to start the update, following the instructions.

  • Help.  What to do? New Update destroyed all my network connections

I can no longer connect to my wireless system (it was working this morning before I downloaded updates--security, itunes and airport). The first thing support tells me to do is update my OS. Which I would do if I could connect to the internet--but I can't. Network Setup Asst is asking me questions I don't know how to answer: IP Address, Subnet Mast, Router, DNS Servers, Search Domains, lPv6 address. Can anyone help me? Thanks, Jill

    Try the following:
To setup AirPort for High-Speed Cable Internet connectivity:
System Preferences > Network > Show > Network Port Configurations
    - Verify that an AirPort option exists. If it does not, click "New" to create one. - Verify that AirPort is "On" (checked)
    - Verify that AirPort is at the top of the list. If it isn't, you can drag it to the top.
Systems Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort
    AirPort tab
    - By default, join: Automatic
    TCP/IP tab
    - Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    - Configure IPv6: Automatically or Off
    Proxies tab
    - Configure Proxies: Manually
    - Select a proxy server to configure: <All proxies should be unchecked unless you specifically require a proxy for Internet access.>
    - Exclude simple hostnames (unchecked)
    - Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts & Domains: <leave blank>

  • Adobe Colour Issues with RAW images

    Hi,
I have had Photoshop for a long while now and i have a problem. When looking at RAW images they have a green hue on the shadows (this is when previewing them in Bridge, Photoshop and Camera RAW). This problem seems to be solved by minimizing the window and then making it fullscreen again a few seconds later. How ever after this, if i switch to another image and back the green cast is there in the shadows.
If I print screen it you can see the problems in any other image editor along side a screen show of the "solved" image.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem. I've added in a screen shot for comparrison.
    Thanks
    Mark
    #CS5 Extended 12.0.4
P.s. There are much worse images i can upload if people want more clarification or even just to see more of the problem.

You're saying both of these images were captured from the screen of Photoshop before and after doing your workaround?
You likely have a display driver problem if so.  You may want to check the web site of the maker of your video card to see if they offer an update for your hardware and OS.  Caveat:  If you have an ATI card, consider installing older version 11.7 instead of Catalyst 11.8 - I've seen problems with the latter.
Out of curiosity, is your monitor calibrated and profiled?  If not, what color profile do you have associated with it at the OS level?
For that matter, what OS are you running?

  • Raw Images from 6D to PE11

Have just bought a new Canon 6D and cannot upload Raw images to PE11.  Any suggestions appreciated?

Usually if you go to Help>Updates from within the photoshop elements 11 editor
that will download and install camera raw 7.4, which should then open your canon 6d files.

  • Quick look D800 files

Hi everyone, I still own a MBP running 10.6.8 and I recently used a Nikon D800. The problem I now have is that I can get a quick look of my images using the space bar. Looking at different posts on similar problems I'm not sure what I now have to do to be able to see a thumbnail image of my D800 files. I know the problem probably come from my camera raw version installed on my MBP, I tried to find the 3.11 version that was released after D800 was put on the market but I couldn't find it. The only version I can find is 3.12 and higher but these versions won't install on my computer.  A message about iPhoto and Aperture being outdated shows up when I try to install.
What are the options to get the quicklook feature and the thumbnail image to work with my D800 files?
Where is version 3.11 and how do I install it even if iPhoto is not up to date. I only use Photoshop CS5.
Will I have to upgrade to Mountain Lion to get the functions back and if I do, will CS5 still work?
    Thanks Serge

Deleting the quicklook preferences file cleared the problem.

  • Loading a raw image in BufferedImage

    Hi guys,
I'm very new to java .I have a raw image which has 32 bit pixels which has ABGR...with alpha as the most signficant byte and the red as the least significant byte. I have an array of ints and I want to load this to a BufferedImage object. I then use a JPanel and render the BufferedImage on to it. I tried doing with other file formats like jpg , gifs and so the rendering to the JPanel works fine. But I'm not able to get the array of ints to be stored in BufferedImage correctly. Could you please let me know what I did was wrong or any suggestions?
Currently I have a class called RGBAImage that reads the raw image and stores it as an array of ints.
So in order to create a BufferedImage I do this roughly,
    DataBufferInt buffer = new DataBufferInt(img.getPixels() , img.getPixels().length) ;
//                                                        bits  red                   green                   blue                 alpha
    ColorModel cm = new DirectColorModel(32, (int)0x000000ff , (int)0x0000ff00 , (int)0x00ff0000 , (int)0xff000000) ;
    SampleModel sm = cm.createCompatibleSampleModel(img.getWidth , img.getHeight) ;
    WriteableRaster raster = Raster.createWritableRaster(sm , buffer , null) ;
BufferedImage bimg = new BufferedImage(cm , raster , false , null) ;Is this how its to be done? I am not getting the image drawn on the panel. Any suggestions or links?
    Thank you
    Siddharth

I have an array of ints and I want to load this to a BufferedImage object. In your sample code I cannot see how the int array you are talking about becomes the image data. Also, what is the img variable? Please provide a more complete code sample.

  • Problem with quick look since 10.7.4 upgrade

    Hi,
So ever since upgrading to 10.7.4 I've had a couple of new issues with quick look.
    1.  Often when I first open quick look the file doesn't preview but opens only a grey square where the file "should' be.  If I close quick look and open it up again it works fine.  This is more a nuisance and not my real concern.
    2.  The biggest problem seems to be relegated to pdfs:  If i open a pdf in quick look and arrow up or down to search through a group of documents the heading changes file names, but the content of the preview stays on the first document I opened.
Anyone have any suggestions or experience this problem as well?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Have photoshop cs5 installed on desktop..got new Canon rebel T5i camera...cannot open RAW images...updated and installed plug-in...still now working.  Need help, please.

I have photoshop cs5 installed on desktop...got new Canon rebel T5i camera...cannot open RAW images...updated and installed plug-in...still not working...help please.

In any event, that camera was first supported by ACR version 7.4 which needs at least CS6 to run.  Naturally, all later versions support it too.
Your choice is either to upgrade your Photoshop, or to look for, download, install, launch and run the free, stand-alone Adobe DNG Converter 8.6 on each folder containing your raw Canon files to convert them first to raw DNGs that you can open in CS5.
In no case does an Adobe application belong "on your desktop".  The default install location should always be respected and left alone.

  • Quick preview looks better than processed raw image...??

Hey all, probably a bit of a "newb" question here... so forgive me, and thank you...
Using a D7000 and often times when I shoot - the preview image on the camera looks BRIGHT, VIVID and ROBUST ... after import however - when reviewing my shots, JUST as I arrow over to the next shot - many of the preview images tend to look better than the processed image that aperture displays once it's done spinning it's wheels.
Perhaps I've messed up a Raw Fine Tuning setting?
When I click on quick preview and browse through an import, the pictures truly look nicer to me than the when aperture processes them.
Without question, the display on my acer monitor is a far cry from the miniature compressed image on the back of my nikon, however the more i shoot, the more I realize a disconnect between what I think I should see, and what I'm ultimately seeing in Aperture.
Are their specific settings to fine tune the import of raw d7000 shots?
    Thanks much.. gk

I take it you're shooting and processing RAW images?
It's worth remembering that if you have a picture style selected (i.e. vivid etc), your camera might be applying extra contrast and saturation etc to the image you see on the back of the camera. Camera manufacturers do this so that we can give our pictures some extra punch and colour automatically.
I'd also be wary of comparing what you see on your camera to what you see on your monitor. Unless both are calibrated, you shouldn't trust either of them 100%. The best example of monitor calibration is going to look at TV's in an electronics store. You'll probably notice that in a wall of TV's, some pictures will be darker, some lighter, some more vivid, some more saturated. Using a calibration tool adjusts the picture your screen and monitor displays so that it is 'accurate'.
It's a bit like having a room full of scales and adjusting them so that they all read 1 kilogram when a 1 kilogram weight is placed on each of them. Calibrating monitors will mean that when you display an image on it, it will always look the same rather than getting the some light/some dark problem you saw in the TV store.
It's a tricky subject to explain (don't worry if it doesn't make sense), but you might like to have look around YouTube for videos on the subject.

  • Canon 400D RAW & Image Capture & raw image update - Fail

I got my macbook pro about a month ago and of course was anxious to try out my camera ( Canon EOS 400D). I'm using RAW images. It worked fine. No problems.
But then comes the update a week or two ago. Of course I download it, it's an update... What could go wrong . Then, today, I connect my camera again to download some photos I took. Image capture launches as usual, but what happens when I try to download (some/all, no difference) the photos from the camera? Nothing! The program hangs up and Force Quite Applications says (Not Responding).
Well, I'd try with iPhoto, but no success, because the camera is no longer recognized. I reboot the computer and try again. Yippee! The camera is recognized again, but there is no success with downloading the images. Actually iPhoto doesn't even show the images in camera.
What to do? Anyone's got the same problem? Can I 'downdate' the system to get rid of the latest RAW update?
I do not own a memorycard reader because this method has been working always until today.
Oh yes, the camera is ok, because it works flawlessly with Windows XP and Vista.

I use Adobe Bridge + Photoshop to process RAW images. I really don't think the only answer to get by this problem is to buy more equipment, it's not the right way. There's a bug in OS and it should be fixed .
Anyway, I'm going to get the card reader, but I'm still waiting for this problem to be fixed some time in the future. If not for me, but for the new Apple users that have got used to connecting the USB-cord between computer and camera and everything works fluenty after that.

  • PDF images visible in Adobe but not Preview or Mac Mail's Quick Look

I have a PDF that I am inserting an ad into. I copy and paste the ad from one PDF into another. The problem I am having is when I have the final 10-page PDF with the ad inserted in it, you can open the 10-page PDF in adobe and the ad will be visible, but if you open it in Preview or using Mac Mail's Quick Look, the ad isn't there. When I open the original file with the ad in it (that I copied and pasted the ad from) in Quick Look or Preview, the ad appears. I need to know why the ad isn't showing up after it is copy and pasted into a new PDF?
files can be viewed below or at this address:
    http://6letters.com/help/
"lanai3_Grand Jewels-001Winning.pdf" is the document I am copying the ad from
"lanai_122211.pdf" is the document I am pasting the ad into. The ad is on page 10. The ad is viewable in Adobe Acrobat but not in Preview or Mac Mail's Quick Look.
I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 (version 9.4.6) to do the copy/paste/save.
I just clicked the above link and the ad doesn't show up online now either. It is supposed to be in the blank space on page 10.
    Any help much appreciated!!!!!!

    Hi,
Acrobat 9 and older versions paste images as a stamp/comment which (that poorly functional) Preview cannot see, so you need to "flatten" the page if you want to see a pasted picture in Preview.
(Preview, Mail and QuickLook shares the same rendering library)
You can easily flatten one or several pages in a PDF using this free tools: http://abracadabrapdf.net/articles.php?lng=fr&pg=717

  • Quick Look sometimes doesn't switch to next image.

Hello, I have 10.6.4 snow leopard.
I have some folders with hundreds of images and one with a few thousand.
When I show a client a slideshow of the images in a folder it's fine. However, if I switch to the Quick Look (the "eye" icon) and use my arrow keys to manually click through images sometimes the larger image preview (QL) doesn't update to the next image.
I've had this problem for some time (even OS X Leopard) but I was able to just click backward one image, then forward... and it'd update. Now, however, I can get several images behind in that preview even if I leave it for several minutes to see if it's just lagging.
In reading other threads about QL I should note that although I've had this problem for a while it's been worse since: I restored my Macbook Pro from Time Machine after my logic board was replaced and since I've upgraded to Snow Leopard. The TM Restore was several months ago, the SL Upgrade was beginning of this month. The images in the folders are all JPG, less than screen resolution/size (eg. less than 1280x1024 or so). These same folders cycle through images just fine in the random screensaver mode, for what it's worth but that's not ideal for client presentation.
    Thanks for your time.

I remembered that there had been a slight bug in the Leopard Quicklook, so that if you went to full-screen QL, then used Command-Tab to switch to another program, then Command-Tab back to Finder, you would be back in QL Full Screen, but you could now navigate with the arrow keys. At first I thought this had been fixed, and started mucking about with other key combos and accidently got it going again. Took awhile to figure out exactly what I had done, but it works like this:
    1. Select your file, hit spacebar and click the full screen arrows
    2. Command-tab to some other program
    3. Mouse click the toolbar or sidebar of the open folder with your file in it
    4. You can now navigate with the arrow keys
Although I don't really see how this is better or easier than opening the folder, hitting Command-A, then bringing up QL....
