Program Hangs While Adding First ActionListener

Hey All,
I'm trying to build myself a quick and dirty database application for maintaining my church's phone list and have hit a snag.
My project (being developed in NetBeans IDE 6.5.1 on Slackware Linux 12.2) keeps hanging in the initComponents() function of my one and only form. After it goes through all of the Swing widget creation statements:
    tbMain = new javax.swing.JToolBar();
    btnExit = new javax.swing.JButton();
    tbSep1 = new javax.swing.JToolBar.Separator();
    btnPrint = new javax.swing.JButton();
    // 63 or so widgets deleted for convenience.
    mnuHelpIndex = new javax.swing.JMenuItem();
    mnuHelpSep1 = new javax.swing.JSeparator();
    mnuHelpAbout = new javax.swing.JMenuItem();the code comes to the setup of my first toolbar button, which is the btnExit:
    btnExit.setIcon(new javax.swing.ImageIcon(getClass().getResource("/cbpekin/art/application-exit.png"))); // NOI18N
    btnExit.setToolTipText("Exit the Application (Alt-x)");
    btnExit.setBorderPainted(false);
    btnExit.setFocusPainted(false);
    btnExit.setFocusable(false);
    btnExit.setHorizontalTextPosition(javax.swing.SwingConstants.CENTER);
    btnExit.setVerticalTextPosition(javax.swing.SwingConstants.BOTTOM);
    btnExit.addActionListener(new java.awt.event.ActionListener() {
      public void actionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
        btnExitActionPerformed(evt);
    tbMain.add(btnExit);
    tbMain.add(tbSep1);Now, the btnExit.addActionListener() bit is where the run hangs up. This code is added in and controlled by the IDE, which does not allow me to edit it. Having said that, I don't see anything wrong with it and I get no errors or exceptions...the project just hangs as if it is working on something, but it never seems to go beyond this line. I have given it up to about 20 minutes to see if it was just going slow (which won't work at all, if that had been the case), but it never did continue past this point.
At first, I thought that it could be an IDE issue, so I compiled my JAR file and tried to execute it directly from the command line, but it hung in my MainForm constructor (according to my logs), but never completed. Due to this, I'm assuming that when I ran it directly, it hung in the same place. When this didn't work, I tried using a different version of the IDE, to no avail...it still hung up at the same place. When I added that ActionListener, I was using NetBeans 6.7 milestone 3. Could that IDE having generated this code caused the problem that I'm experiencing? Changing to an older version of the IDE has not helped, but I'm open to anything at this point.
Any thoughts as to things that I can try to trap exactly what is going on here or suggestions as to how to fix this weird "hang up" are most appreciated. I look forward to hearing what you all have to say.

OK, All, this is what I've got:
I tried just commenting out code to see where the hang up was being caused. As I had said in my original post:
the code comes to the setup of my first toolbar button, which is the btnExit:
btnExit.setIcon(new javax.swing.ImageIcon(getClass().getResource("/cbpekin/art/application-exit.png"))); // NOI18N
btnExit.setToolTipText("Exit the Application (Alt-x)");
btnExit.setBorderPainted(false);
btnExit.setFocusPainted(false);
btnExit.setFocusable(false);
btnExit.setHorizontalTextPosition(javax.swing.SwingConstants.CENTER);
btnExit.setVerticalTextPosition(javax.swing.SwingConstants.BOTTOM);
btnExit.addActionListener(new java.awt.event.ActionListener() {
public void actionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
btnExitActionPerformed(evt);
tbMain.add(btnExit);
tbMain.add(tbSep1);
I could not determine at what point that the hang up started happening. Even after I had added the ActionListener for the btnExit toolbar button, my project still ran, until some indeterminate point where I added something to the project which caused it to start hanging up on this .addActionListener() line.
Since I couldn't determine when the hang up started taking place by commenting out code. I decided to recreate the project from scratch (but bringing in files that I know were not causing the problem). By doing this, I've gotten to the point where I've got the btnExit ActionListener being added again and am not getting the hang up. This is really weird! I don't want to have to keep recreating my projects because of something crazy like this happening.
I'm not sure if I had mentioned it in any of my replies to this thread, but when I had originally added the ActionListener for the btnExit toolbar button, I was using NetBeans 6.7 milestone 3. When I recreated the project, I did so in NetBeans 6.5.1. So, I'm beginning to think that the problem I had was actually with the version of NetBeans that I was using and not with the JDK or Java code that I had written.
Any thoughts on this? This question is mainly for you folks that are like me and kind of a NetBeans freak. ;-)
Cheers,

    Yes its keep on listening state and not getting any data. Also we have set the timeout configuration and still program hangs.
    Not throwing any exception. Each time we have to take the jstack trace to check the error before killing the process id.

  • Sample Program hangs while executing mining task

    Hi, we installed 9i (9.2.0.3, JServer Release 9.2.0.3.0) DM option. The two users related to ODM have been created by installation and been unlocked. I am trying to run the sample programs on the AIX UNIX server. I could succesfully compile these java programs but when I run them, they hang (for more than 1 hour) just after executing wait-on-task statement.
    On this server I could compile test java programs on O/S. I could store and execute those classes as java stored procedures.
    I suspect the reason is because ODM_MONITOR gives the following error:
    begin ODM.DMT_ODM.MONITOR_MAIN;end;
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-29541: class ODM.oracle/dmt/odm/internal/task/DMSMonitor could not be
    resolved
    ORA-06512: at "ODM.DMT_ODM", line 0
    ORA-06512: at line 1
    The reason could be that 72 Java classes under ODM DB account (including the corresponding class) are invalid. Even after reinstallation, they remain invalid. Anyone has any ideas as to why it is happening? Is there anything that I am missing? Any help is appreciated
    Thanks,
    Kiran

    Hi Kiran,
    Oracle Data Mining is not ported 9.2.0.3.0 release to AIX. The invalid objects are caused because AIX 9.2.0.3.0 relapse is using older version of the ODM libraries.
    Two possible solutions are:
    1. Use AIX 9.2.0.1 release (to which ODM was ported).
    2. Request Oracle support for a 9.2.0.3.0 port of ODM.

  • My program hangs while i open a file.

    Using multiple threads, would be able to resolve this.However, i don't know anything about it. Please provide me with resources in labview that will allow me to do this.

    Well, more information is needed in order to provide the adequate advice.

  • Can we see Mobile phone number instead of home fax as the first option while adding a new number in iPhone 5s?

    Hello,
    While adding a new phone number in Iphone 5S, when you hit 'add phone', it displays the phone number types in this sequence - home fax, radio, home and then mobile. Is there a way to configure this sequence to see mobile as the very first option? i save only mobile numbers and dont see much use in home fax and other options. I know we can delete other phone number types, but i want to save few cliks for convinience
    Thanks...

    When you add a new phone number, I think you are talking about the Contacts app.
    Click "home fax" in that display that comes up.  You should be able to change it to something else; e.g., home.
    Then home would come up first.

    Alex just a quick response to your advice re disabling AV, this did not work for me, after more searching the internet for a solution I found a post from 2013 where one poster offered the advice to go one step further, and it was to remove the AV package
    completely, the package in question was KIS2013. I have KIS2015 and figured I would try it as I was getting a little frustrated with the constant failure to create a virtual switch.
    Anyway, it worked for me, I removed KIS, rebooted, and the VS was created on the first attempt without any issue. So simply pausing/disabling the AV from within the AV program may not be enough, I suspect that some may work and others not, as in the case
    of KIS. I wonder also if you disable the AV services at start-up if this would also work but I did not try it.
    Anyway to other people experiencing this issue, I suggest disabling AV first as per Alex's advice, and if this does not work for you then suggest trying to remove the AV before doing anything more drastic like re-installation of OS as I have seen suggested
    in more than one place.
    Thanks
    Mr Bee
    --EDIT--
    Just wanted to add, it is also worth 'excluding' any Hyper-V folders from the AV engine, I did not try this before removing KIS2015 so it may work without the need to remove your AV product, but on re-install I have now exluded the folders as suggest by
    a few folks in various posts...

            }in the main class, I have generated 100 threads to run the put document process and 30 threads to run the query process. After insert several documents to database, the whole process hangs infinitely. I think it is caused by the query process. When i set the query thread number to 1 or disable the query process, the put document process ended with success.
    I think it is caused by the lock. I try to execute the query in Snapshot isolation, but it doesn't works. I also tried the No Wait On Blocks, it seem ok, but alway throws DeadLockException, which can not bear. I doubt about that the lock granularity is per page, and in my program I used the Wholedoc Containers. The Query Process just take action in one document, which is 1.xml, but the lock seem that the whole container is locked. Could it be the page is so large that it covers the whole container? I referenced the document Getting Started with Transaction Processing For Java, but find no hint.
    The BDB XML is excellent in performance, and I want use it in my program. I really hope that this problem can be solved. I don't know whether it is a bug or my reason.Any suggestion will be very helpful, thanks advance.

    Dear gmfeinberg,
    You are so kind. I appreciate very much for your approval. You are alway very warm-hearted to help others. Thanks very much.
    I followed your advice and changed the prepare() to add the transaction as a parameter. The complete code I have already posted above. But unfortunately the program hangs also. The complete output of the db_stat -CA when the hang happens is below:

  • NWDS HAngs while creting the model

    When I try to create webservice model in a webDynpro Devel pment Component NWDS hangs while trying to put files into DTR.
    The NWDS put the model files into DTR in two sets, the first set goes through smoothly, but when the second set is added NWDS hangs. The situation is same across all the NWDS installation
    My patch level is SP16.
    Has anybody come across such scenario?

  • Random hanging while import?

    I'm not sure what's going on but recently, my Aperture library is getting a lot of hanging while importing. It happens both with my camera and even when just importing photos from a local folder. The library is located in a thunderbolt external drive. Usually I have to force quit aperture because once the import hangs there's no way to stop it. Normal quiting of the application will get stuck "cancelling". How do I fix this?

    leonieDF wrote:
    . I copied all the files first to the desktop and then imported into aperture, still the same hang at "saving preview...".
    The hang at "Saving Preview" typically occurs if one image is being processed, that has a corruption and cannot be processed.
    Aperture is processing the previews in the background. That may take a long time. Before you force quit Aperture and suspect a hang, look at the filename in the Activity viewer. If it is hanging at the same filename without getting the preview created, then export the original as original, not the edited version delete that file from Aperture. Check that file in another program and make sure you do not import that particular file again.
    Have a look at the screenshot Mr. Spork posted. You can see the name of the currently processed file in the panel. If ithis name does not change for hours, then you have found the file that is making Aperture unresponsive or hang.
    Second test, I created a new aperture library immediately after the hang and imported the same folder of files. No hanging.
    You cannot be  sure, until the processing of all the previews has finished.
    If you isolate the file that causes the hang and check only importing that particular file in a separate library and that works well, then you know that it is the library and not the image.
    If it is the library, try rebuilding the library instead of repairing. Make a backup of the library before trying that.
    No as I mentioned above. If I force quit Aperture, repair the database, the same files will import just fine. So the problem is not with the files.
    Also I cannot rebuild the library, because that will reset all my curves. Any other fix?

  • When I plug my headphones into the headphone/optical out jack programs hang

    I have an iMac 20 inch LCD. On the back their is a jack with a picture of headphones, but it is also labeled as "optical out". I plug my headphones in and they work. Great. That is not my problem today.
    My problem is that whenever I plug the headphones in or unplug them, iTunes (and other apps using audio) hangs and when I try to adjust the volume with the keyboard buttons nothing happens for 15 seconds or more and then the volume changes, not that anything is able to play. If I wait for a minute or so then all my applications start working fine again and I am able to hear my music and adjust the volume.
    What in the world is going on?
    1.8 Ghz G5 1.25GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Thank you. That is good information.
    Does this mean that there is nothing I can do about the delay? When I think of a delay, I think of maybe 10 seconds. I am having to wait for a minute or more for my audio to switch. While I wait, I have no audio and any audio program hangs. Is there a setting I can change? It seems rather ridiculous that I have to wait so long just to switch from internal speakers to headphones.
    It is like this on other Mac machines? Or it is just my iMac? I hate to compare Mac to Windows, but on Windows or Linux computers the switch is instantaneous.

  • AddRequestObject has been deprecated while adding a resouce to a request

    Hi Friends,
    I have created a schedule task to create a request and to add users to it and also to provision a resource to the user. It is creating a request and adding a user successfully.
    But while adding resource to the request by using the correct request key and object key, I am getting a compilation error.
    This is the statment I am giving "requestIntf.addRequestObject(reqkey,objkey);"
    I am getting the compilation error as "addRequestObkect(reqkey, objkey) in Thor.API.Operations.tcRequestOperationsIntf has been deprecated"
    Did research in google but did not find anything. Can you please let me know what I am doing wrong.

    Using API : - you can use tcFormInstanceOperationsIntf api method setProcessFormData
    setProcessFormData
    public void setProcessFormData(long plProcessInstanceKey,
    java.util.Map phAttributeList)
    throws Thor.API.Exceptions.tcAPIException,
    Thor.API.Exceptions.tcInvalidValueException,
    Thor.API.Exceptions.tcNotAtomicProcessException,
    Thor.API.Exceptions.tcFormNotFoundException,
    Thor.API.Exceptions.tcRequiredDataMissingException,
    Thor.API.Exceptions.tcProcessNotFoundException,
    tcAPIException

In the case of a first-time save, all the required data must be provided. In the case of subsequent saves, only data being updated need be provided.
    Parameters:
    plProcessInstanceKey - The key of the process instance in the system.
    phAttributeList - An array of tcMapping objects, each used to specify the attribute name-value pairs to be used to save data to the form

    tcInvalidValueException
    tcNotAtomicProcessException
    tcFormNotFoundException
    tcRequiredDataMissingException
    tcProcessNotFoundException

  • Time Machine error message while restoring..."an error occurred while adding a recovery system to the destination disk

    I had to change my hard drive in my MBP 15".  I use Time Machine on a Time Capsule for backup.  I am booting up my laptop with a bootable USB key.  I have partitioned my new hard drive (bigger than the old one) and named it Macintosh HD (same as the old one).  I select the option to restore from Time Machine Backup.  I select one of my latest backup....select my destination drive...the restore process starts but stop within minutes with the following message.  "An error occurred while adding a recovery system to the destination disk"  It then prompts me to restart....
    I need your help...what can it be.
    Thanks

    I've encountered this issue when the Time Machine was encrypted with FileVault.
    Article:  HT4718
    Additional Information
    Please note that OS X Recovery must be present on the computer's startup volume in order to use FileVault 2. Using RAID partitions or a non-standard Boot Camp partition on the startup disk may prevent OS X from installing a local Recovery system. See "OS X: Some features of Mac OS X are not supported for the disk (volume name)" for more information.
    What seems to work, is reinstalling the OSX from the internet, and then using migration assistant to pull the user from the time machine backup external when logged into a temporary administrator user to move the original user back over.
    Perhaps if you're stubborn, what would work is the following from the same article:
    What to do if the installer warns that no Recovery System can be created
    Some disk partition configurations may result in the OS X installer reporting that it could not create a Recovery System. In these situations, even if you are permitted to continue the install, you may want to quit the installation and create an external, bootable OS X hard drive with a Recovery System, first. You can continue your OS X upgrade on your computer's startup drive after creating an external Recovery System.
    Your storage device must have at least 13 GB available (after formatting) to install OS X Lion or later and a Recovery partition.
    These steps erase and reformat the storage device. This article instructs you on setting up a storage device to use the GUID partition scheme and the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format, which are required to install OS X and a Recovery partition on your external storage device. You should back up any important files that are on the device to a different drive.
    This procedure installs a version of OS X that is compatible with the Mac it was created with. Using this OS X system with a different Mac model may produce unpredictable results.
    Your computer's serial number is sent to Apple as part of this process to help authenticate your request to download and install OS X Lion.
    All of this information was collected by browsing through the public articles on the Apple Support website.

  • Error with Dump while adding Currency field in UI

    Hello,
    I have a requirement to add a custom entity in MDGM with an currency attribute, and encountring dump while adding the field to Web Dynpro component in UI.
    Could some one point me a direction and see below :
    Custom Entity with attributes
    ZTSTOCK  data element is type curr (Lenght 13, Dec 2)
    Data Model is activated without errors and created custom Web Dynpro Form component. while designing it in UIBB by adding Element TSTOCK_VL encountring a error and dump.
    Error: Could not find attribute WAERS and also dump showing below:
    Category               ABAP Programming Error
    Runtime Errors         UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION
    Except.                CX_WD_CONTEXT
    ABAP Program           CL_WDR_CONTEXT_NODE_INFO======CP
    Application Component  BC-WD-ABA-RUN
    Date and Time          21.05.2014 00:13:32
    Short text
         An exception occurred that was not caught.
    What happened?
         The exception 'CX_WD_CONTEXT' was raised, but it was not caught anywhere along
         the call hierarchy.
         Since exceptions represent error situations and this error was not
         adequately responded to, the running ABAP program
          'CL_WDR_CONTEXT_NODE_INFO======CP' has to be
         terminated.
    Any help please.
    BR, Srihari

    Yes, since the release of the current segment is 45 and you are now in a ECC6 system you cannot cancel the release (because there is no ECC6 version). Just use the add version button to create a new version for ECC6. Once you have that you can add fields and set the release to ECC6.
    If you later on need to add more segements you can then cancel the release for your ECC6 segment and add the fields and set the release to ECC6 again (because you already have an ECC6 segment)
    Hope that explains it,
    Michael
