New Windows Laptop Won't Show Time Capsule Base Station

Hi
I have a Mac system at home including a Time Capsule, which we use as our home network.  In the past my work laptop has worked just fine on this.
I was given a new laptop and this one does not "see" my network (or apparently any networks - none show up).  My network admin suggested rebooting my wireless router - ie my Time Capsule (I guess?  I'm not very computer savvy).  He suggested just unplugging it, waiting a minute, and plugging it back in.  I believe it's running Windows 7.
Reading on this forum it's hard to tell if this is safe or not, and I'm nervous because this is not only my wireless network but the backup of my computer.  The "reboot" options that are discussed seem to say that it will reset things, not just restart the TC.
Can anyone help with what I should do in this situation?
Thanks, Eric

Load the airport utility onto the win7 computer.. hopefully it is win7.
I think you would know if it is win8 .. but please check.. it is near impossible for us to help without exact info..

Google is your friend to find out how to find out..

If you have 8.1 then life may not be so easy.. lots of router do not work well including apple ones.

I don't think that is going to help but it will do no harm.. you simply pull out the power cord.. count to 10 and plug the power cord in. Make sure the TC is not in the middle of a backup when you do it.. how do you do that.. place your hand on the TC.. you have to do that to pull out the power cord.. if it is vibrating slightly.. the hard disk is running.. and you should wait.
Or go to any Mac computer.. go to airport utility and use the restart.. It is greyed out unless you select the TC or AE you want to restart.

  • Extending network with Airport Express from Time Capsule Base Station

I have a working Time Capsule wireless base station that's setup and working successfully. I want to extend my network and connect to my stereo for playing via iTunes. I've spent hours trying to get the Airport Express to connect.
What's the correct basic approach? Time Capsule base and adding the AE to the network? Setting up WDS? If anyone has the proper settings for both the TC and the AE I would be very appreciative.

I still say this needs to be addressed by Apple on why there isn't 2 different forums for the old Express or the new Express.... Just like the Extreme Base Station. A lot of time is wasted on the forum on which Express a person has.....
    1. Old Express with "g" ????
    2. New Express with "n" ????
If you have the old Express, you need to set it up using WDS along with the TC.
If you have a new Express, then you can just check the TC settings for "allow this network to be extended" and set the Express to extend the network. This is much easier than setting up a WDS.
    Good Luck

  • Laptop won't take Time Capsule password

Trying to backup info from Time Capsule onto laptop with new hard drive. Keeps saying "invalid password."  But the password works on our IMac.  Any answers??

Try opening Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > KeyChain Access
See if you can locate a listing for your mail account.
    Double click the entry
Enter a check mark in the "Show Password" box
Enter your main computer administrator password to see if that will reveal the mail account password.
If not....and you are using Mail....try a post in the Snow Leopard Forum to see if the gurus over there know the answer. Click "Refine this list" and post in the Mail and Address book area.

  • Windows 8 won't recognize Time Capsule

    I set up my Time Capsule as a base station router and my Windows 8 recognized it in Y: drive;
    I spend 4 days backing up my data (super slow) over Wi-Fi;
But thereafter when I extended my router by attaching my Airport Extreme the Y Drive went away and the Airport Utility won't even open saying Windows 7 need a Service Pack 1; whereas I'm on my new lap top with Windows 8.
    Anybody have similar problem? Solution?
    Thank you

Open windows explorer and type into the address bar.
    \\TCname or \\TCIPaddress
Replacing that TCname or TCIPaddress with the ACTUAL TCname.. Must be SMB compatible.. short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric .. of course.
Or the TC IP address eg 10.0.1.1
If it fails have you loaded bonjour for windows .. there is none yet for win8 so try and load the win7 version.. alternatively use the whole Airport Utility for windows.
Set the guest account to read and write in the TC and set workgroup to WORKGROUP.

  • My MacBook Pro is currently online via wifi, but the airport utility doesn't recognize the airport time capsule base station and has not backed up in 10 days

My early 2011 MacBook Pro 15 inch is currently online, with good (albeit slow... although that is due to the service provider) internet connectivity via wifi.  The icon shows that I am connected to my network with full bars.  I use an Airport Time Capsule as my wireless router, purchased late last year, and it has worked well until now.  Internet comes via cable modem (provided by the cable company), and can be patchy and quirky, so I am often rebooting the modem, but the airport wifi router typically does not need to be rebooted with the modem to regain connectivity.
My problem is that my time capsule has not backed up in more than 10 days.  When I went to investigate this, it claims it cannot find the time capsule.  when I open the airport utility on the laptop it claims there is no airport connected (although there is the green light next to the internet icon).  I checked on this using the airport utility app on my iPad, and it has no problem identifying the router as an airport time capsule.  I did update the firmware on the router using the app on the iPad, but it made no difference to the laptop.
First question: Do you think this is a problem with the Airport router or my MacBook?
Second Question: what can I do about it?
My MacBook feels like it is on its last legs anyway, so I am currently looking at replacements, but I really want to make sure it is backed up in case it dies before the new one arrives!!  On the other hand, we have serious power issues here, and while the router is on a UPS, the UPS battery is basically fried and conks out in about 5 minutes, so the Airport is constantly being cycled on and off, which I worry could also be causing problems with the proper operation of the device (although the fact that it works with the iPad makes me think that is not the case... but I don't really know).
    Thanks!

  • Can't print from Windows laptop to HP printer on extreme base station

I have an IMAC Power PC as a Home computer. I use a an airport extreme as my wireless router. I have an HP Deskjet1220 C connected via USB to the Base station. I can print from the IMAC but can't from my windows based laptop. I have downloaded bonjour but I cant see the printer there. I also called Apple support and they sent me 2 files. I dont have the airport software on the Windows machine its on the IMAC. The instructions showed me how to add by Start-printerfaxes, add printer, local printer, deselect auto detect, create new port, std tcp/ip, then put in 10.0.1.1.
Thats where it ALL STOPS the port is in use? Apple cant help me cause its windows machine, Microsoft is the same? Help??

  • Time Capsule base stations does not appear in AirPort Utility

I can't see my Time Capsule in Airport Utility 6.3.2. on Mavericks. And I can't access the Data volume for Time Machine Backup. The Internet is working!
However I can see it the Time Capsule on my iPhone's Airport utility.
I have tried rebooting Time Capsule a few times, didin't help.

OK. That should be a third or fourth generation Extreme, plenty new enough. (The most recent OS X and iOS versions of AirPort Utility cannot configure the original Extremes, but they can handle my mid-2007 second generation Extreme.)
If two or three devices on the same network as the Extreme cannot "see" the configuration interface, I would guess that the problem lies in the Extreme itself.
Have you tried power cycling the Extreme?
Did you purchase AppleCare for your 2011 MBP? If so, and if you bought the Extreme less than two years earlier, the AppleCare should cover the Extreme also.

  • HT1178 Airport utility cannot find Airport Time Capsule base station

I just purchased the new AirPort Time Capsule 2TB and after trying to set it up with my MAC I realized that the AirPort utility software was old and instead tried setting it up with my ipad that has iOS 6.1.3. However eventhow I remain connected in the internet, I cannot find any base station with the updated AirPort utility. Reseting Time Capsule and modem has not helped. Has anyone else had the same problem and how have you solved it?

Sorry, can you please clarify, and provide a bit more information?
You can "see" the Time Capsule using your iPad, but not using AirPort Utility on your Mac, correct?
If yes, what version of AirPort Utility do you have on your Mac?  If you are not sure, open AirPort Utility, click the AirPort Utility menu in the upper left corner of the screen and click About AirPort Utility.
Post back with the version number that you see there.

  • Time capsule base station not working with Airport Express

    Hi...
I have a network setup using the airport base station hat is part of my (older) time capsule.  I also have an older Airport Express.
My network is working fine...and looks like the first image below.  When I plug in the Airport Express and reset it...I get what you see on the second image.  The thing is...the airport utility is supporting the base station just fine prior to looking for the airport.  I presently have airport utility 6.3.2 and my airport base station has firmware 7.6.4.
    Any help would be great....thanks!

Your express is a G wireless model and not compatible with the N wireless TC.
You can use it but only by using it with ethernet and setting it up as AP.. you also need to use 5.6 utility not v6.. apple removed support for G wireless devices from v6.
    LOL..
    I was 2min late.

  • Time Capsule Base via ethernet to an Airport Extreme to extend Wireless

I have set up a new Time Capsule dual band (TCBStn) as a base station (connected to the internet). I want to connect a new Airport Extreme dual band in a family room far away from the base via Ethernet. This family room has an Apple TV to which I want to stream video. I am not able to connect the AE via the Airport Utility as the Airport Utility does nor recognize the AE.

My recommendation is to configure your two base station as a "roaming" network. This will allow wired/wireless clients to connect to either and still be able to "see" each other for sharing.
Please start by powering-down all of your network components as follows:
o Power-down the modem, Time Capsule (TC), AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS), Apple TV (ATV), and the iMac. Note: The power-down order is not critical.
o With all of these components powered down, disconnect both the TC & AEBSn from the network, and then, perform a "factory default" reset on both to get them back to their "out-of-the-box" configuration.
o After both have been reset, remove them from power, and then, reconnect them as follows: modem > \[WAN port] > TC > \[LAN port] > \[WAN port] AEBSn, where ">" represents an Ethernet connection.
o Power-on the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
o Power-on the TC; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBSn; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
    o Power-on the iMac.
o For now, leave the ATV powered-off.
In this configuration, both routers will be transmitting their own wireless network, each having a Network Name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN, where the Ns represent the last six digits of their respective AirPort IDs.
Now, from the iMac, use the AirPort Utility (in Manual Setup) to access the TC to make the following configuration changes:
o Time Capsule > Base Station > Time Capsule Name = TC
o Time Capsule > Wireless > Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network
o Time Capsule > Wireless > Wireless Network Name = <enter the desired Network Name>
o Time Capsule > Wireless > Radio Channel Selection = Automatic
o Internet > Internet Connection > Connect Sharing = Share a public IP address
o Leave all the other default settings (for now).
o Click on Update to write the new configuration to the TC.
While still in the AirPort Utility, select the AEBSn, and then, make the following changes:
o AirPort > Base Station > AirPort Extreme Name = AEBSn
    o AirPort > Wireless > Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network
o AirPort > Wireless > Wireless Network Name = <use the same Network Name that you created for the TC>
o AirPort > Wireless > Radio Channel Selection = Automatic
o Internet > Internet Connection > Connect Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
o Leave all the other default settings (for now).
o Click on Update to write the new configuration to the AEBSn.
You should now have a basic roaming network. Verify that your iMac can access the Internet while connected to either base station by wire or wireless. Please post back your results.

  • Windows 8 offline files and Time Capsule

    Hello,
For a number of years I've had a Windows XP Pro laptop connecting to my Time Capsule, with the drive mapped and folders set to 'Make available offline'. Everything worked perfectly.
Now I have a new Windows 8 Pro laptop, and am connecting to the Time Capsule in the same way, with the drive mapped.  However, now when I make a folder 'Always available offline' I get errors in the Sync Center saying 'The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.'
Without going into all the details right now, I've tried a few things I found in various threads here (mostly Windows 7 related), like:
    - setting LmCompatibilityLevel,
    - setting EnableOplocks,
    - enabling 40- and 56- bit file sharing encryption,
    - disabling offline files then re-enabling it, and a variety of other things.
I also can happily make folders available offline on other network disks, so it is just the TC which has the problem.
    Any ideas folks?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Roger,
Thanks for your reply, but I'm afraid your suggestion hasn't worked.
I added that DWord value ([HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"EnableLinkedConnections"=dword:00000001) into the registry and rebooted while connected to our network.  When
I logged back on, I'd lost my network mapping completely.  I ran a gpupdate /force to reapply the group policy.  When I logged back on, the drive mapping was back but incorrectly - it was mapped to the root of the 'Users' directory on the file server
instead of users\username as it should be.
I deleted the registry key, rebooted and my drive mapping was back to users\username as expected.  However, it still loses the mapping as soon as I do an offline reboot.
The 'Reconnect' option is not checked in our Group Policy.

The Utility transferred all of the AE's settings, so I still have to change the password, which leaves me with only 2 other questions, I think:
    1)  I assume it's just a matter of using the Utility, entering a stronger password and checking for it to be remembered in Keychain Access.  But do I have to  change the password for each individual unit-- the TC, the Extreme and both Expresses-- or will changing it just for the TC alone work for the entire network?
Resetting the password you will need to do for each device... the utility cannot even see those old units.
So you will have to do it for each one.. think it through.. because as you change passwords the others will lose connection.. so start from the express which are wireless extending .. change those first.. and go back up the chain.. as each one changes it will drop off the network.. until you reach extreme and change that. Then you might need to reboot the whole network to get everything talking again. If something goes wrong.. just pluck that one out of the mix and plug in ethernet.. reset and redo the setup. That is my preferred method anyway.. do everything in isolation one by one. By ethernet and then nothing goes wrong.
    2)  Who's the treasonous SOB who spilled the beans to you about the ICBM in my back yard?!?
    N.Korean hackers.
[Edit] Whoops-- one more question:  I want to partition the TC's disk, but Disk Utility doesn't see it.  What do I need to do?
You cannot partition a network disk. And apple provided no tools for it in the TC itself. You can pull the disk out and partition it but that voids your warranty. (although done with care who is to know).
    Look at Q3 here.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
Mixing TM and data on the TC is worth planning carefully. They don't necessarily sit happily together.
