New Zealand PowerMac Purchase

Hello; I am not sure if this is the correct place to ask these questions - I looked around and this seemed the best place to post.
I am calling out to Apple to do something about the situation in New Zealand. Renaissance - the supplier for the Asia/Pacific region are absolutely hopeless.
I am feeling rather frustrated. Now I haven't had a good history with Apple hardware - ie; I've had to take in my laptop many times for repairs. My first laptop went into shop about 5 or 6 times before Apple replaced it with another (for a big discount); this one has gone into shop twice already in its first 9 months of operation; Granted, I use this machine a lot for programming and development, but my respect for Apple hardware isn't too high. (I've also had to take my new 23" panel in as the power supply developed a fault - and its only 6 months old).
Anyway, with this statement, I'm thinking of buying a new PowerMac. I think the new quad looks pretty hot- and possibly it will be a lot more robust than a laptop.
So... I was spec-ing one up on the apple.com shop - here take a look:
2.5GHz Quad-core PowerPC G5
512MB 533 DDR2 Non ECC SDRAM- 2x256
500GB Serial ATA - 7200rpm
NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT 256 MB SDRAM
AirPort Extreme + Bluetooth built-in
16x SuperDrive DL (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
Apple Keyboard & Mighty Mouse - U.S English
Mac OS X - U.S. English
Accessory kit
AppleCare Protection Plan for Power Mac (w/or w/o Display) - Auto-enroll
The price: US$4,297.00 (without tax)
The time: 5-7 business days
Great - this looks sweet... until you realise that I live in New Zealand.
The same spec'd machine is as follows:
The Price: NZ$7129.00 = US$5079.00 (without tax)
The Time: 8 Weeks
I just don't get it. Basically, it is cheaper by nearly $800USD - thats nearly price for a trip to the USA (or Japan, slightly more expensive, but more interesting since my GF lives there) to pick a machine up, which would be like 8 times faster than waiting until February.....
My main question is basically, why is this the situation for New Zealand. My initial guess (and what the shops have told me) is that Renaissance is very slow.
My other question is, why are machines such as this not covered under international warranties? It is actually cheaper for me just to pay for repairs as far as I can see and not bother with a warranty at all- and get my GF to buy it for me from Japan. Is it possible to explicitly buy an International AppleCare warranty? Or, can I buy an AppleCare warranty in NZ and apply it to a machine bought overseas?
Thanks for your time and patience reading my thoughts. I really want to buy one of these machines but by the time I wait 8 weeks the next quad g5 is probably about to come out... I just don't understand the bad service we have here in New Zealand.
Thanks for your time.

David,
If it was refurbished by Apple themselves, I do believe they change the boxes so that it's clearly marked "Refurbished." I seem to remember a friend of mine telling me his PowerMac was a refurbished unit and his box was different than the normal ones.

When I try to buy either an app or a song via iTunes, I have just started getting the following message and I am unable to change the store location. "Account Not In This Store. Your account is not valid for use in the U.S. store. You must switch to the New Zealand store before purchasing."

Very frustrating. Can someone please tell me why & where the change has occured and how to fix it? In the past I have purchased many apps and songs on itunes and never had this problem.

  • I have had no choice but to reconfigure my computer and couldn't back up my itunes, how do i do this in new zealand? I have downloaded icloud and it shows all my purchases back to 2009 how do i download these again?

I have had no choice but tok reconfigure my computer and couldn't back up my itunes, how do i do this in new zealand, i have downloaded i cloud but this does not seem to work due to being outside the USA.

Currently you can only re-download music purchases in the US, it hasn't been rolled out to the rest of the world yet. Have you not got a backup of your purchases on external or flash drives or CDs/DVDs ? If so then you can copy that back onto your computer and add them to iTunes.

  • I purchased an iPad2 in the US. What do I need to charge & use it in Australia & New Zealand?

I purchased an iPad2 in the US. What do I need to use it & charge it while traveling in Australia & New Zealand?

If it's 3G, and the AT&T version, then you will need local micro-sims in those 2 countries if you want to be able to use 3G whilst there (and avoid potenial roaming costs with AT&T).
For charging you should just need plug adapters - my UK charger has 100 to 240 v (50 and 60hz) in faint grey writing on it, and I believe both NZ and Australia are 230 V  50 hz so you shouldn't need a converter.

  • HT204053 can I purchase from two different stores ie store in New Zealand and Store in Australia and  how do I sync updates on applications?  Do I have to switch ID's in my settings each time or is there an easier way.

can I purchase from two different stores ie store in New Zealand and Store in Australia and  how do I sync updates on applications purchased from either store?  Do I have to switch ID's in my settings each time or is there an easier way.  The trouble is I set up my appleid in new Zealand and so all icloud and itunes and app stores are under New Zealand Apple ID I have since moved to Australia. Im a real beginner at this stuff so bare with me pse.

I'm in the same boat as you -- except that I manage both a school lab (volunteer job) and macs in the enterprise (pay job).  What I think we need is the Education Volume Purchasing Program
    http://www.apple.com/education/volume-purchase-program/faq.html
Unfortunately this all seems a little rough around the edges -- for example, I have found updates for AppStore apps on the support.apple.com updates download site, but then when I install them via ARD they don't actually update the software.  (The AppStore icons still show as needing the updates, and the version info reports the old version.)  The documentation is also vague about which AppleID to use in which circumstance.  I think they just haven't finished thinking through the implications of the various procedures and policies upon the various kinds of customers.  When we deployed Mountain Lion on the school lab, we made an install usb and went around and installed it on each computer -- and it appears that you are on the honor system as far as paying for all of the licenses that you install.  We did!  But they appear to have no way to enforce it.
So far, I have only deployed 9 Lion macs in my day job, and our "solution" to the AppStore showing updates problem has been to drag the AppStore icon off of the users' docks so they don't see them!

  • Could the team at iTunes please make purchasing tv shows available in New Zealand?

I have heard that other countries ie. America and Australia are abe to purchase tv shows online and I think that it would be great if the team at iTunes could make this possible in New Zealand? Could the team at iTunes at least consider it? I think it would be a really great feature to improve iTunes in New Zealand.

We are just fellow users here, these forums are not monitored by Apple. If you want to try requesting content then you can try this link : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html . But Apple can only sell what the licence/copyright holders allow them to (and sometimes there are country's laws as well) - so if they havn't got permission to sell something in New Zealand then they can't sell it

You will have to inquire with your regional S&T support or reseller. This is esoteric sales stuff that even most US-based or Indian support guys from Adobe don't know since the criteria are different in each part of the world.

  • Need to be "released" from Veizon Blackberry Server to get BIS in New Zealand??

I have a Verizon Blackberry Tour that has been unlocked.  I am now with Vodafone New New Zealand and have registered for Blackberry Internt Service with Vodafone.  It does not currently work - Vodafone tells me that the phone is registered on Verizon's Blackberry server and I need to contact Verizon to have it released from their server before Vodafone can provide me with BIS.  Verizon tells me that because I never had a plan with them, the phone is not registered on their server (not sure I believe that, but....).  Verizon has told me to contact Blackberry as the phone would have to be released from a Blackberry server.  This doesn't make sense to me ... but I can't seem to find a way to talk to someone at Blackberry to find out.  Can anyone help?

It makes sense to me, in that whoever used the device prior to you, did not "remove" the PIN from their account. Hence, the device remains registered on the previous account.
Verizon will need to do this. RIM doesn't do this. It is a common question asked here of users purchasing used devices. Call Verizon.

My name is Mike. I live in New Zealand. My username is waipukurau1. I downloaded MacBook booster. I write to ask was this a good idea? Was this good and correct for my MacBook Pro. Please answer.

    ashish35,
No one from Apple here - we're just users like you. All I can tell you is that electronic fail and with MacBook Pros (and most notebooks) the components are so integrated as to make a repair to the logic board practically impossible, hence the high prices charged for repairs.
Only you can decide if you want to have your computer repaired or put the money towards the purchase of a new computer. If you do decide to purchase a new unit I would suggest that you also purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan which increases your warranty from one year to three years.
    Sorry and good luck,

  • IMac Airport Wireless from UK not working in New Zealand

I have a iMac that i bought in the UK but now live in New Zealand and i cannot get the wireless internet. Sometime s i can connect however often it is slow and drops out. then when i try to reconnect the internet times out. Iv tried changing the security encryption to no avail.
every other computer works on the network fine, i can only think it must be something to do with the airport region.
does anyone know or have experienced similar problems from moving accessing wireless internet from a different country other than where they purchased there mac from?
any help or feedback would be much appreciated

    Hi,
At least according to the AirPort Extreme (802.11n draft) specifications, there are certain channel differences between New Zealand and other countries/regions. I do not know whether this, somehow, could have something to do with the difficulties in question (normally, in the case of a channel problem, a connection should not be possible). Which iMac model is it? Which base station is used? Did you buy the base station and the other computers locally?
Have you tried moving the iMac a bit? Is there a cordless phone near the iMac? This article about interference could perhaps be of interest.

  • Uk Curve not working in New Zealand

    Can anyone help me.
My 8900 is unlocked but when I put a New Zealand sim in the phone it only makes calls and texts.  It wont use any apps that require to get on the data network.
What do I need to do to my handset to let me onto NZ data networks?

    Hello !
It doesnt make any difference from where you purchase your device.
What matters is that do you have an activated BlasckBerry Internet Service (BIS) data plan through your provider?
    Hope this resolves your Problem!
If your problem has been resolved then would request you to Click on "Like" and accept as "Solution" so that other Advisors doesnt invest there time on this Message anymore.

  • IPhone 4S New Zealand - will it work ok?

Hi there.  Does anyone know whether the iPhone 4S will work ok in New Zealand?  I am currently traveling and want to purchase an unlocked version in the US in a couple of weeks.  Unfortunately the 4S is not available to buy in NZ yet.  Thank you.

Should work, yes, especially if it's unlocked. When you take it to NZ, pop in a SIM card and it should work.
