Newbie: how to temporary results and handle sessions running UNIX commands?

Hello,
I have just asked a question concerning launching UNIX commands using Java classes, see thread "_https://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=2429211&tstart=0_".
I have followed the mentioned advises (using "bash","-c" parameters) but now I have stumbled into other issues:
My intention is to write a UNIX class, that can handle UNIX commands, in order to be used in other Java programs, so that the following example becomes possible:
UNIX.launch("cd /var/core");
UNIX.launch("rm obsolete_core_file");
UNIX.launch("sqlplus <Oracle_database>");
UNIX.launch("select * from cat;");Unfortunately I have stumbled into a strange behaviour: until now, I have created the UNIX class as a single class, containing a "main" method. When I launch the following commands:
java UNIX "cd /var/core";
java UNIX "rm obsolete_core_file"I have the problem that the "cd /var/core" command is executed while UNIX class is running, but afterwards I jump back to my current directory:
pwd => current directory
java UNIX "cd /var/core" (this is executed, e.g. verifying "ls" output)
pwd => current directoryI would like to have:
pwd => current directory
java UNIX "cd /var/core"
pwd => /var/coreOne other thing is the handling of sessions: until now, when I launch following commands:
UNIX.launch("sqlplus <Oracle_database>");
UNIX.launch("select * from cat;");Then I get into a "sqlplus" session, but afterwards my Telnet session hangs. Is there a way to see that I have fallen into a session, and handle it? (Exit, launch internal session (SQL-plus) command, ...)
Thanks again
Dominique

DominiqueWhy not just use plain java File I/O http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/essential/io/fileio.html and JDBC http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/jdbc/basics/processingsqlstatements.html for fulfilling your requirements?

    How to restore views and procedures after drop user command?
    We have 817 EE on NT and one developer created a lot of procedures, functions and vews. DB was not backuped and archived and export has not been done - our fault and we understand it. Sorry for this.
    Ok, now the story: another developer dropped this db user and we lost everything: procedures, functions and vews. The new user with trhe same name was created and new schema was imported in this user, but all old objects are lost. We don't have export and backup and archive log files.
    Question: may we can restore this lost stuff from some other sources. We are looking for lost codes, not data. May be we can use redo logs or shared pool or any other things. Any idea will be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    [email protected]

    The switch has occurred after user was dropped, the data has been overwritten and there is be no way to use redo log files.
    I would like to explore another opportunity. Is possible to use Shared Pool or any Data Dictionary internal information to restore texts of the lost SQL and PL/SQL scripts executed in this DB before user was dropped? Not too many scripts are executed in this DB and the lost ones may still be in stack. I remember that Shared Pool (cash) should keep last executed scripts in order to improve performance. They probably are kept in some special format. Can we restore these scripts? Of course they also might be pushed out by Import that had been done after user was dropped.
    Thanks for your help,

  • Newbie: how to handle pipes and semicolons while launching UNIX commands?

    Good afternoon,
    I am trying to write a Java class that can launch UNIX commands.
    Launching simple commands (date, ps -ef) works fine, but when I start using pipes and semicolons, it goes wrong:
    Java code (pipe example):
            String command = "ps -ef | grep config";
            Process child = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command);Result:
    usage: ps [ -aAdeflcjLPy ] [ -o format ] [ -t termlist ]
            [ -u userlist ] [ -U userlist ] [ -G grouplist ]
            [ -p proclist ] [ -g pgrplist ] [ -s sidlist ]
      'format' is one or more of:
            user ruser group rgroup uid ruid gid rgid pid ppid pgid sid taskid
            pri opri pcpu pmem vsz rss osz nice class time etime stime
            f s c lwp nlwp psr tty addr wchan fname comm args projid projectJava code (semicolon example):
            String command = "date;ps -ef";
            Process child = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command);Result:
    date;ps: not foundClearly the pipes and the semicolons are handled by the UNIX shell and cannot be put in the Java source code as such.
    Does anybody know a way around this?
    Thanks
    Dominique

    Pipes and semicolons are interpreted by a shell (bash, csh etc) and when one executes as you are doing no shell is involved. This is easy to solve by using the alternate version of exec() which takes an array as an argument and to use your shell of choice. For example :-
    String[] command = {"bash", "-c", "date;ps -ef"};Note that the third argument is the whole of the command to be interpreted.
    Two points to consider. First you should read, digest and implement all the recommendations in http://www.javaworld.com/jw-12-2000/jw-1229-traps.html; failure to do so will at some point lead to significant loss of hair. Second you should probably use ProcessBuilder rather than Runtime.exec(). Behind the scenes Runtime.exec() uses ProcessBuilder but ProcessBuilder provides a better interface with more features.

  • How to get stateful and stateless session bean in second jsp

    I create stateful session bean in the first jsp, then how can I get the stateful session bean in the second jsp? I find that somebody store the bean in HttpSession.
    If I store the stateful session bean in HttpSession, then I can get it in the second jsp. My problem is that I can store the stateless session bean in HttpSession, and get it in the second jsp. Then, both stateful and stateless can maintain the state in the second jsp. What is the difference between stateful and stateless session bean in this case ?
    I understand the definition of stateful and stateless session bean, but I'm confuse how to use session bean. Can anyone provide sample jsp to show difference of stateful and stateless? How the stateful session bean can maintain the state for the client?

    Greetings,
    I create stateful session bean in the first jsp, then how can I get the stateful session bean in the
    second jsp? I find that somebody store the bean in HttpSession.Which is the correct scope for sharing client-specific data when 'request' scope is insufficient.
    If I store the stateful session bean in HttpSession, then I can get it in the second jsp. My problem is
    that I can store the stateless session bean in HttpSession, and get it in the second jsp. Then, bothWhy is that a "problem"? Does your application not require the stateless bean to be shared? If so, then don't store the EJBObject reference in the session...
    stateful and stateless can maintain the state in the second jsp. What is the difference betweenWhat do you mean by this exactly?..
    stateful and stateless session bean in this case ?Statefulness of session beans is in regard to maintaining client state (er, in all cases). If your "stateless" bean is receiving information from the client (i.e. its caller) - either through a create method or a business method - and that information is available (retrievable from the bean) on subsequent method calls, then that bean is, in fact, stateful - regardless of how it is deployed.
    I understand the definition of stateful and stateless session bean, but I'm confuse how to use
    session bean.The correct question, it here seems, is "when" to use which type... Use a "stateful" bean when information about (from) the client (i.e. the caller) must be maintained across method calls of the bean. Use a "stateless" bean for general business methods that do not depend on "prior knowledge" of the client (i.e. the caller).
    Can anyone provide sample jsp to show difference of stateful and stateless? How the statefulA "sample JSP" would yield nothing additional... The semantics of calling, using, and "persisting", bean references are always the same - regardless of type or class. However, the reason(s) for using one over the other depends entirely on the needs of your application.
    session bean can maintain the state for the client?I recommend that you spend more time learning about EJBs generally. In particular, it seems you require more fundamental understanding of their scope and lifecycle. Refer to sections 4, 6, and 7 of the EJB 2.0 Specification.

  • How to return start and end time in Unix epoch format

    Hi: I have a integer field (utime) in a table that stores the UNIX epoch time for a record. Every sunday around 2:00AM, I am running a query which should return records from last week. I want my condition to have the following in it's where
    WHERE utime between
    (convert sysdate-7 12:00AM to Unix time)
    AND
    (convert yesterday 11:59PM to Unix time)
    Can someone help me create this convert?
    Thanks
    Ray

    Yes, you seem to have worked out the logic of the expression correctly. Though, in your earlier post you had said that you want records within the range:
    WHERE utime between
    (convert sysdate-7 12:00AM to Unix time)
    AND
    (convert yesterday 11:59PM to Unix time)But now you are adding 14400 (4hrs) and deducting 72000 (20hrs) in your expression
    SELECT * from TABLE
    WHERE utime between
    ((TRUNC(SYSDATE,'DD')-TO_DATE('01/01/1970','MM/DD/YYYY'))*(24*60*60))+14400 AND
    ((TRUNC(SYSDATE-6,'DD')-TO_DATE('01/01/1970','MM/DD/YYYY'))*(24*60*60))-72000;Which makes your new condition to be:
    WHERE utime between
    (convert sysdate 04:00AM to Unix time)
    AND
    (convert sysdate-7 04:00AM to Unix time)
    Are you sure you need records from 4am-to-4am and not midnight-to-midnight? And yes, with BETWEEN condition you need to use expression '<low-value> AND <high-value>' and not '<high-value> AND <low-value>'!
    Besides this,
    1. You might want to use bind variables rather than hard-coded expressions in your statement. Infact your expression uses SYSDATE, so Oracle would need to get current SYSDATE for each row to evaluate the expression. Which is going to have its impact on performance. As your start-time and end-time values are not dependent on table data maybe you could have a code like this (assuming it is PLSQL code):
    start_time constant number := (convert sysdate-7 12:00AM to Unix time);
    end_time constant number := (convert yesterday 11:59PM to Unix time);
    <DML or Cursor with condition>
    WHERE utime between start_time and end_time;
    2. You said that your table already has values in unix-epoch-time in column 'utime'. How are these values inserted in the first place? Is there a function in your application that converts any given time to unix-epoch-time? Is yes, then use that in your code.
    3. If such a function does not exists, than rather than using hard-coded expressions it might be a good idea to create new functions for converting to and from unix-epoch-time and to get current unix-epoch-time from server.
    Using a function in the above case:
    start_time constant number := f_convert_to_unix_time( trunc( sysdate-7 ));
    end_time constant number := f_convert_to_unix_time( trunc( sysdate )) - 1;
    <DML or Cursor with condition>
    WHERE utime between start_time and end_time;
    And lastly, some of us might not know about Unix time, so here is a useful link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unix_time

    "ls /Volumes" will list all volumes, including internal and external hard drives and mounted disk images. I find "disktool -l" more useful in scripts, as it tells you which volume names correspond to which "mount points" under /Volumes. Usually they're the same, but if you have two volumes with the same name, or you try to remount a removable volume before it is fully unmounted, you'll end up with a mount point that consists of the volume name with a numerical suffix.

    Write your own Thread, to do this:

  • How do run unix command in java

    hi
    All unix command working fine in our java program.
    but i want change user in linux by using java. it's not working.
    "su root" This command onely not working.
    anybody know help me
    This is my ID [email protected]
    This my code

    out.println("Here is the standard output of the command:\n");
    while ((s = stdInput.readLine()) != null)
    out.println(s);
    catch(Exception e) {}
    %>

    I don't have further info to add to your first post, but think your guess seems quite reasonable. I thought of starting a new thread on the same topic, but think this (question) fits in here, too.
    I have Java code (freeware, not opensoure), intended for Unix, which basically provides the graphical interface and relies on an I/O layer (C + shell scripts) to do most of the work. I have access to the C+shell scripts which are opensource. I ported it to Cygwin and want to use it under Windows (there is no Cygwin native Java VM).
    My problem now boils down to " how to run commands under Unix and what differences are there with Windows". What are the variants?
    I have to guess what the program is doing when I get an IOException at some point. E.g.: a call to shell script may be made in a different way as to a compiled exe in Unix?. I found a way to bypass path problems because forward slashes are also accepted and /cygdrive/c construct can be replace by c:/; shell scripts can be compiled into exes using shc and they work; if symbolic links are replaced by duplication of exe files, they work. What will happen in an instance whereby a process runs a shell script dynamically, through a pipe (the shell script is compiled in the Cygwin/win version and receives parameters) in a construct like:
    pipefp = epopen(cmdbuf,"w"); /* (cmbuf is "makehdr par1 par2 ... ") (makehdr was a shell script and is now compiled exe for Cygwin/Windows) */?.
    Thanks.

  • How to run Unix command with Pipe ( | )?

    Dear Friends,

    *ps -ewwo pid,args | grep -E "abc.sh|xyz.jar" | gawk '{ print $1 }' | wc -l*
    My code to execute this command is,

    File workDir = new File("/root/sat");
    String psCmd = "ps -ewwo pid,args | grep -E \"abc.sh|xyz.jar \" | gawk '{ print $1 }' | wc -l";

              String line;
              int i = process.waitFor() ;
              if(i == 0) {
              BufferedReader buf = new BufferedReader( new InputStreamReader( process.getInputStream() ) ) ;
              while ( ( line = buf.readLine() ) != null )
                   System.out.println("Line - ["+line+"]") ;
              } else {
                   BufferedReader stdErr = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(process.getErrorStream()));
                   // read the output from the command
                   while ((line = stdErr.readLine()) != null) {
                   System.out.println(line);
                   }When i execute this command, i'm getting output as,
    ERROR: Garbage option.
    When i analyse the above error, i found that, the PIPE ( | ) command is not supported through java.
    Could anyone please help me how to execute the above unix command (with | ) in java?
    Thanks in advance,
    Sathish

    The pipe has to be interpreted by a shell so you need
    String[] psCmd =
        "sh",
        "-c"
        "ps -ewwo pid,args | grep -E \"abc.sh|xyz.jar \" | gawk '{ print $1 }' | wc -l"
    Process process = run.exec(psCmd, null, workDir);You should also read, re-read and then implement the recommendations in the 4 sections of http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-12-2000/jw-1229-traps.html .

  • Running Unix commands and scripts from HTML-DB

    Hi,
    How can I run scripts (like perl scripts) that I have on the UNIX machine that the HTML_DB is installed on.
    How for a start can I run even simple UNIX command like "ls" ?
    Thanx,
    Alon

    Alon,
    Best to try the database forum and search for "external process" or "extproc" for this - it needs setup for the listener and in the database itself.
    You need to be aware - all your commands will be run as the oracle user so you should be very careful who can run them and what commands they can run.

    '(:eval (run-shell-command "date" t))))

    Do you know how I can get rid of this newline?

    I used a different method...
    I used servicegen with only a.jar to create the ear.
    I touch-ed my own application.xml to make it newer than the one already in the
    newly created ear.
    I used the ant <ear> task to add b.jar, c.jar, and application.xml to the ear.
    Worked like a charm.
