Newbie needs jsp form that resembles a Oracle Forms form

Currently learning JDeveloper and need to create a form where one can view multiple records from the datasource ,update, create, delete and query the data. is there a tutorial that i can reference on that matter. By the way i've already got most of the functionality working except the query part.

Newbie needs help can't compile an Oracle form 10g

I am trying to compile a form in Oracle 10G. in the /u01/dba/oracle/product/1012ias/bin directory there is a script called frmcmp.sh which I assume is the correct script to use. It calls the frmcmp executable (it does mean form compile, right?). anway I get the error
FRM-91500: Unable to start/complete the build.
This is on a HPUX machine running HPUX 11.11.
I am having no success trying to search for an answer on the Oracle site and all the documentation I have looked at so far fail to address the issue.
I hate being a newbie!

for this you need Xwindow session, if dont, you can make it command line by running it like.
* frmcmp.sh USERID=manager/manager@dbname MODULE_TYPE=form MODULE=form.fmb*

Need SOAP example that connect to Oracle DB

Hi, I have setup the Oracle SOAP service and have successfully
deployed several trivial SOAP services.
I have also created some simple JDBC code that queries
scott/tiger database successfully.
WHat I have not been able to do is make the JDBC code pass back
a SOAP response. I have seen no examples of how to do this.
If this is not the correct forum to be asking this question,
please direct me.

You are right, the I got that url may not be correct. I got it from datadirect documentation.
I couldn�t find any good information or examples on this, but I think using TNS keyword-value pairs and tnsnames.ora is supported by type4 Oracle 10g JDBC.

I guess there is something off in that documentation though. I couldn't get it working.

In report query, you have to use the lexical parameter using ' & '

My question is, how do I run the form in the Oracle Apps? After registering it.You already have the steps in your post, just add the form to the menu and attach it to the responsibility.

Oracle Form Vs OAF JSP Form

I have some basic questions regarding Oracle Forms and OAF JSP forms. There is a requirement by the client to create custom forms for a functionality not available in Oracle Applications R12. I have to make the decision if Oracle forms or OAF JSP should be used to develop these forms. I have been told that both are supported in R12. I would like to know what is the advantage of doing one over the other? What factors do I need to consider?

Newbie needs advice on a 3 page form

hello, i need direction as to how to proceed with this problem.... i have a form that spans three jsp pages, the submit button is on the third page, and the other two pages have continue buttons.... the form contains textboxes (page 1), checkboxes (page 2), textareas and "input type file" (page 3).... i need to know how to hold off submitting the entire form until the third page is completed without losing previous values from the other two pages.... i'm planning on using a servlet for this....

First of all, a form cannot span three pages. You need a form on each page.
If you want to pass values from page to page, you might want to make use of hidden form fields.
For example,
page1.jsp:

Then your servlet should be able to get all the parameters.
There might be a more elegant solution, but this is one simple way to do it.

The basic apple equivalent to ms office is called i works, which has three components. Pages is word, numbers is xl, and keynote is powerpoint. There are many subtle differences, but the are more or less functionaly equivalent.
There are also a number of third part apps available to replicate office functions, such as good reader, docs to go, and my favorite, quick office. Read the reviews in the app store and pick the one that will do what you need.

Is your question in the context of the responses that you collect (this is the View Responses tab) or the actual form that your end users will see?
In a nutshell, (1) a field in your form corresponds to a column in the responses table. (2) the caption text of the form field will be the column header (show up at the top of the column). (3) to list names in alphabetical in your form, you can use choices fields, like multiple choices field or drop down field - you will have to enter the name in alphabetical order manually.

Yes, but then it all has to be done using a script. You can't use the built-in Open A File command.

How to find out last_query from jsp form in oracle applications

Once you open the jsp form, at below leftside corner you can see link : About This Page. If you click on the link : About this Page this again open another window, there you can see multiple tabs at header level, if you click on page tab, there you can all the VO objects used to build this page. If you click on VO object hyperlink you can see the query.

Need to create a JSP page that informs user how many SMSes are sent.

My project , which is based on a web-based group SMS module is working , but unfortunately when I send out the group SMS to the selected group , the notification of the sending of SMS is only made visible in the Apache Tomcat status screen . For every SMS sent , the Apache Tomcat screen will display that the SMS is sent to this phone number and recipient number out of the maximium number of recipients.
How can I make a JSP page that would allow me to display these messages instead ? Any help and advice would be welcomed .

The simple way would be to just write a simple jsp that takes the output of the class and displays it. A JSP is nothing more than a servlet class, so you can use your existing classes inside it. If you want to do it the correct way, you should use taglibs to build the JSP. It's up to you.
I suggest buying a good book about JSP's and read that first, else you may be a little overwhelmed.

Newbie to JSP/Struts: Where to get started

I would like to begin experimenting with JSP and the struts framework. I'm a java newbie but a relatively quick learner.
First, what products do I need to use struts/JSP ?
I have 9iAS standard edition release 1.0.2.1 and an oracle database std edition without the JVM installed. Do I need the JVM in the database ? Can JSP use a JVM outside the database ? Do I need enterprise edition ?
Do I need Jdevelopper 9i or can I learn to use JSP with simple tools (HTML editor) first ?
Does struts need JSP 2.0 spec or the JSP 1.1 that comes with iAS 1.0.2.1 is OK ? Is JSP 2.0 = JSP 1.2 (Like J2EE = JDK1.2 and up) There is a lot of version/naming confusion going on in java, you got any site that can help me untangle this mess ?

We actually use oracle 8.1.7 and 9iAS (PL/SQL gateway and http server). We would like to jump on the Java Bandwagon before we are left in the dust. We first need to be able to understand a lot of technology/concepts/buzzwords.
We started basic Java programming (Applications) but would prefer to get an idea of "The big picture".
By that, I mean, we need to be able to understand/design/architect sound applications and be able to talk to the community and understand what they are saying. Right now, reading the media or forums is just a big bunch of buzzwords that are ever changing and we cannot get a grasp on it.
We not only need to get aquainted with the concepts, but we also need to be able to determine wether product xyz fits in the architecture, etc...
If you were to get a couple of good books to answer some questions, where would you begin ?
Kind of questions we might have are:
- What is the difference between Jserv and Tomcat ?
- What excatly is tomcat ? A replacement for Jserv ?
- Can Jserv be used as a container for struts apps or do you need tomcat ? If you need tomcat, does it come with some version of 9ias ?
- What is a java web service ?
- I read a lot about Enterprise Java Beans etc.. What are they, what are there purpose ? It seems like it is a standard, what are they used for ? If it is a standard, does this mean that If I buy a set of EJB from a vendor, it would offer the same beans as another vendor ? Is Oracle BC4J an implementation of EJB with added functionality ? Is it proprietary ?
- Buzzwords everywhere: MVC, EJB, J2EE, BC4J etc.. What are the definitions.
- Is oracle's java vision proprietary or are they really following the rest of the world ? For example, is BC4J compatible with EJB ?
- What is a Framework
- What exactly is JSP.
- Can STRUTS be used to access an oracle database ? If so, what are the required components (I guess you need JDBC or SQLJ) but does the oracle database need to be java enabled ?
- Even if you use oracle 9ias as an application server, can you use non-proprietary development methods/architectures/techniques that could be easily implemented somewhere else using another vendor's application server (Ex: Apache + Tomcat, WebSphere, etc...)
- Struts seems to be an interesting thing. I see that it was developped to encourage code reuse and prevent everyone from reinventing the wheel. But I cannot understand what exactly a developper had to write before struts was there. I mean, there must be alternatives to strut, if so what is the purpose of the framework ?
A lot of questions, but we need to understand the basics before we jump on the java bandwagon. If we wait, we'll be left in the dust and we need to keep current.

Good Day,
I have built a web application through the Oracle Jdeveloper.
- Tecnically side, this web apps contains the following technoloy : JSP - JAVA class - web.xml.
- Functionality side, this web apps contains consulting dynamic data stored in
oracle database and several forms.
The Goal is to make this web apps more customizable in order to install this
web apps for several customers in the same version.
In other word i want to have one form jsp page that the content should be
customizable for each customer without forgetting how to make the business rule
control.
EX: Subscription form
*** Fields to display for Customer 1 :
ID - Password -
*** Fields to display for customer 2 :
ID - Password - Email - Phone
Could you please advise me an idea about building customizable content of a web
apps or give me some reference on how doing this ?

You need to use a MVC controller i use struts, try

The concept is that there is a struts servlet, you add potential urls to your struts-config.xml file and when that url is called it adds the variables to a form class, and then it calls an action class, and here it calls method in business logic, so for each potential customer you could just rewirte the struts layer.
