Newbie question - JDBC with JSF
Anyone have a good example of populating a JSF object like a list box, table, etc with data using jdbc?
So, when I expect to add a quarter note (actually it should be notated as two tied eighth notes), instead I'm getting a dotted quarter note (appearing as an eighth note tied to a quarter note).
As I said, musical notation is not directly tied to the duration of the notes. So before you add that last quarter note, the display is perfectly musical. Now when you add the last note, the display switches and displays the notes differently. I just tried it out, I can add that note in the notation view (you might want to put it on the 1 of the next beat and then drag it to the left a little).
Most experienced GB users don't bother to use the notation view for editing, but use the "piano roll" view which gives you a lot more control about how the notes sound. Then let GB do the job of displaying them - you don't have andy influence on that anyway.

Newbie question: working with note durations across measure breaks
Hi, I'm a newbie with Garage Band. Last night I was entering some music as a software instrument, using the editor in both musical notation view and the other view (where the notes are solid rectangles). I'm having problems with note lengths. When I enter an eighth note, I want it to stay an eighth note . But when I copy-and-paste them, they don't start at the right place and the duration gets strange.
I also had a lot of problems ending a 4/4 measure with an eighth note (on the "and" of beat 4) that should be tied to the first note in the next measure. I couldn't do this easily. I finally switched to the non-music notation mode, and dragged the right side of the note across the measure boundary, but with that, I couldn't get an eighth note, it would only go for a full beat in the next measure.

Question about app design with JSF
I'm new to JSF and have been using MyFaces in combination with Tomcat and Hibernate to write a web application for my institution. We have a fairly clean model implemented and our hibernate persistence layer is also looking good. I'm running into trouble making a clean view layer with JSF. Namely, I can't seem to avoid creating lots of classes to get a given job done.
As a for instance: I have quite a few enumerations representing various units of measure, conventions, etc. To persist them in the db with hibernate, I needed to make a converter class to convert the Enums to strings. I wrote a class using generics that could convert any enum to strings appropriately given a class object you pass into the constructor. Well, hibernate needs a no arg constructor so it can instantiate one automatically, so I had to make a subclass of this converter for each enumeration I have in my model. Couldn't see a way around it.
Now, using JSF, I'm needing to implement another converter for enumerations in order convert back and forth from strings. Same deal. I could use a single class to get the job done. The problem is, in the faces-config.xml where you define your converter classes, it doesn't look like I can have 2 converters defined with the same converter class.
i.e.:

</converter>MyFaces seems to associate both Epoch and VelocityConvention with the second configuration of the EnumConverter class. So, the long and short of it is, here I am again having to write yet another class PER enumeration.
I could go on with another example, but this post is getting lengthy, so I'll make it short. Some of my model classes are not java beans because it would create inconsistencies to only set some of the properties one at a time. I.E. I need to call a method obj.set(a, b) not obj.setA(a); obj.setB(b). My first thought was to create a custom component for obj so that I can turn 2 (or more) input fields into 1 set call. There are other advantages in reusability, etc.
Unfortunately, I have several of those situations and am finding myself leaning toward implementing yet MORE classes to make a separate component for each such instance of a non-java bean set of properties.
What it all comes down to is I seem to be having a class explosion and I'm wondering if there's a better approach to this whole thing. How do you organize a view layer that talks to a model having enumerations and not quite javaBean pattern properties without a class explosion? That's the question I guess.

brianNo, I don't have tables of values. I have a java 1.5 enumeration, like for instance:

}When I persist the Velocity class to the database, I want a field called convention that holds the appropriate value of the enumeration. That much is done how I explained before.
I want to have a selectOneMenu for setting the convention. Via trial and error, I found that MyFaces wasn't able to automatically convert from a string back to a proper VelocityConvention enum constant. It can, of course, convert from the enum to a string because it just calls toString(). But I need both directions for any UIInput element I use, be it a selectOne, or just a straight inputText. -
Upgrading to weblogic 12c issue with JSF
Migrating to the Weblogic 12c faced so many issue with the shared class library. After fixing all the issue stuck with JSF and on google everywhere it was mentioned error happening due to multiple JSF version colliding.
My whole application works like a charm in 10.3.6 but same app not working after updating the spring 4 and hibernate 4.

I had faced this behavior on weblogic 12c(12.1.1).
Maybe This problem was solved by 12.1.2.
But, when text item submitted together with a upload file, multibyte characters was garbage characters.

As i come from SQL server environment, I am new to Oracle environment. So my newbie question is how do you connect to particular sub-space (inner schema) of main service. For example, the database hierarchy looks like below.
(1) A (Database/Service Name)
----(1.1) X (database or inner schema)
----------(1.1.1) Number of tables belongs to x database
----(1.2) Y (database or inner schema)
---------(1.2.1) Number of tables belongs to y database
The TNS file (tnsname.ora) includes entry for "A" database/service. I use JDBC drive to connect to oracle database.

Above command let me connect to "A" database but when i replace "A" with "X" to connect to "X" database, it gives me following exception. I tried using setCatalog() function to connect to sub-space of the Connection database object's database, but it didn't work. Any idea what i am missing? Thanks

In Oracle world, a "database" properly speaking is the complete collection of files that store the data and the data state.
Also, service names are not the same as database names; service names can be thought of as "channels" in Oracle's networking layer, through which you connect to a database. 2 different service names may connect you to the same or different databases, either in different modes or with different resource restrictions (such as maximum CPU percentage).
Each Oracle user has their own schema and it is the default schema when they connect; if the user has privileges to access another schema, they may access the tables in the other schema directly, by fully qualifying table references with a schema name.
For example, users jdoe and sroe each have a table named my_table; jdoe has the "SELECT ANY TABLE" privilege and sroe doesn't. jdoe can get results from these SQL statements:
select count(*) from my_table;
select count(*) from jdoe.my_table;
select count(*) from sroe.my_table;user sroe can only do these:
select count(*) from my_table;

Newbie Question about FM 8 and Acrobat Pro 9

I have some dcouments that I've written in FM v8.0p277. I print them to PDF so that I can have a copy to include on a CD and I also print some hard copies.
My newbie question is whether there is a way to create a PDF for hard copy where I mainitain the colors in photos and figures but that the text that is hyperlinked doesn't appear as blue. I want to keep the links live within the soft copy. Is there something I can change within Frame or with Acrobat?

How comes the text is blue in the first place? I guess the cross-reference formats use some character format which makes them blue? There are many options:
Temporarily change the color definition for the color used in the cross-reference format to black.
Temporarily change the character format to not use that color.
Temporarily change the cross-reference definition to not used that character format.
Whichever method you choose, I would create a separate document with the changed format setting and import those format into your book, create the PDF and then import the same format from the official template.

Navigation problem when using tiles with JSF

I m using tiles with JSF. i have included all the libraries and jsp page is rendered properly. but when i use <h:commandLink> in the body part of the JSP , i cannot go to the specified link. when we use tiles, what changes need to be done in faces-config file?? i mean what navigation rule we need to specify ??Hello, I have the same problem; JSF+Tiles = No navigation.
One basic question is should I reference the parent jsp or the included body jsp in the faces-config.xml file.
For example: The login.jsp is a main tiles page that includes a menu.jsp, header.jsp & a loginBody.jsp.
Hence the faces-config could have this rule;

<to-view-id>/catalog.jsp</to-view-id>

i've a jsf application and i've tried to improve its layout with Tiles of Struts and everythings work,infact each page has its layout fixed.
I've used one header,one footer,one left menu(for quickly navigation and language selection and personal content of each page.
My question is:
if i navigate throught my application it's ok,when i use quickly navigation on left menu it's ok.

If your not to far into your project, I strongly recommend Facelets, it is very simple to include other JSF files and the syntax is XML formatted which allows Exadel Studio 4.0 to check your pages.
You'll need to change you actual page extension to .xhtml, which Exadel Studio handles nicely...
Tiles is just a waste of time when combined with JSF... -
Domain name settings - Newbie question

I am already pointing a domain name to web hosting for email account. Now, I need an application server to run ERP software and Oracle, and installing Solaris and Oracle need a domain name.
If I point my domain name to the server, how do I receive emails from web hosting???
Install an email server to the application server instead? What can I do if I want the same domain name? I suggest to dive into the Solaris admin guide on docs.sun.com and read up on e-mail and network services.

I am trying to build a dynamic web service, based on the information of a web service. That is I dont know the controls ( radio buttons, checkboxed, input boxes) , my form will have in advance, so I dont build any managed bean that maps all the controls.
What I thought , it is to have a collection, which has the description of all the questions and posible answers, and dynamically go through the collection and build the form. (that is something I can do with datatables), and then when the user submits the form , in the action method ...I would recover the "answers" based on the ID or name of the controls, but for my surprise I cannot set the name of the controls with JSF , so I am clueless to send the answers of the form.

Newbie Question: How much computer do I need?

I would like to use MainStage 3 in a live performance environment to play bars, parties, etc. I'm not looping, using it to playback recordings, processing outboard equipment or vocal processing. I want to stop carrying Rolands, Nords, Korgs, etc and get to a controller and a rack with a Mac Mini in it.
I tested a download of Mainstage 3 on my home Mac Mini (late 2012, 3.5 Ghz i5, 4GB RAM, 500GB drive) and it seemed to run fairly well. $30 well invested so I trekked forward... I purchased a Mac Mini (late 2009, 2.52GHz Core 2 Duo, 6GB RAM, 128GB SSD) for $200. I started to do more elaborate keyboard setups to see how the CPU would hold up. It typically runs from 30% to 50% of capacity (CPU and Memory) It actually boots and runs better than the i5. I hear the occasion gitch, but it actually seems to be getting better in time (or I'm rock and roll deaf.
I got a rack, an Airport Express, a Radial USB interface and a Nektar Panorama P6. It's starting to get expensive, but I'm emboldened by the actual quality for the sound and the flexibility of arranging for live performance. What used to take me two and three keyboards to play, I can now fit on one performance patch.
OK, now the question... am I at the limits of this little Core 2 Duo? Should I upgrade the i5 with more RAM and a bigger SSD and use that? Should I get a new(er) i7 and bite the $1,500 bullet for the additional RAM and SSD?
I see that most of you are running pretty nice Macbook Pros with i7 and lots of everything. My needs are modest; am I OK?
BTW, I want to run a Mac Mini in a box because I don't want to carry a laptop out in the open. If I was doing bigger shows I wouldn't care but I play some rowdy bars and constantly have folks hanging off me while I'm playing. It's fun, but hard on gear. If you can't drop it or dip it in beer, it won't last long where I work.
Matt DonnellyRule of thumb: newer and faster is better. But, depending the complexity of your needs you may be OK with an older Mac. Some glitches that happen in a live performance are due to loss of communication with USB or Firewire inputs, so make sure they're secure. I recently upgraded from a 2010 Mac Mini 2.6 dual core with 16 GB RAM, which was used live for nearly four years, to the latest Mac Mini 3.0 i7 with 16 GB RAM and a 500 GB SSD. I was getting an occasional stuck note with the older one. The new one is rock solid. Some of my patches may have up to a dozen channel strips mapped to three keyboards. The Mini is mounted in a rack next to a MOTU Ultralite Hybrid. It is a good idea to map a panic button on your keyboard to controller # 123(all notes off). Also, you might want to invest in a battery backup power supply(APC, Cyberpower, etc.-$40-$60) to protect your Mac against power loss, which can damage you hard drive.

How can anyone manage this many versions?
Can we consolidate down to a few versions?
I saw some posts on changing the JRE dynamically or perhaps using a wrapper with a product from "sourceforge".
Are these viable?

I've changed the URL of my MP3s in my XML to a new location and refreshed my feed. Is there a way of seeing what version of the XML iTunes is using? (it takes around 24 housr to refresh, right?)
Also, when I'm searching for my podcast by author it's not coming up (<channel><itunes:author>) - is there a reason for this or a way to get it to show up when people search for the artist, other than doubling it in the title? (This works by the way, but I'd prefer not to!)
