Newbie Struts ActionForm creation question in JDeveloper

Hey guys,
I am playing around with Struts and the JDeveloper functionality for that framework. So I am getting the hang of the diagramatic way of viewing the entire Web application by graphically creating the struts-config.xml file. That is great.
But now I have a question. Suppose I have a simple Login jsp page and I created it using the Struts html tag library. So I guess I am to have a corresponding ActionForm object for that page. How does one go about creating an ActionForm object corresponding to a particular JSP page diagramatically in struts-config.xml? I hope my question makes sense.

Hmm, I guess you just specify what ActionForm you are wanting to take the parameter values from by just editing the properties of the Action object itself. I think I figured out the answer guys. Thanks anyway.

  • Struts ActionForm variable values in JSP

    I've tried to get variable values from a Struts ActionForm. I know that I can use Struts's bean tags, but can't figure out correct syntax or may there's some thing else to discover.
    I'm trying something like:
    <bean:define id="atr" name="MyActionForm" property="attribute"/></address>
    <p><%=atr%></p>
    And my struts-config look like:
    <form-bean name="MyActionForm" type="sth.MyActionForm"/>
    And the ActionForm is like:
    private String attribute;
    public String getAttribute() { ... }
    public void setAttribute(String attribute) {...}
    What may be wrong?
    Edited by: aproppon on Sep 26, 2007 9:46 AM

    I've tried with <bean:write... but since I catch exception saying MyActionForm can't be found in any scope. As far as I'm aware I've set request scope like:
    <action input="/jsp/something.jsp" name="MyActionForm" path="/jsp/myAction" scope="request" type="sth.MyAction">
    <forward name="success" path="/jsp/index.jsp"/>
    <forward name="failure" path="/jsp/something.jsp"/>
    </action>

  • A Few Newbie 10.8 Server Questions...

    Hi All,
    A few quick newbie 10.8 Server questions:
    1) Airport Extreme - I currently have an Airport Extreme attached to one of my workstations which is serving as my main router with a dedicated IP. I'm just in testing mode with my new server and wondering if I need to do anything to the Airport's configuration to make it work with the Server? Does the Server need to administer the functions of the AirportExtreme? Or is it ok to leave it attached to the workstation? Or does it not make any difference?
    2) Automount Shared Folder/Drive - I would like my users (who are mostly using MacBookPros with they take home and bring back to work) to be able to Automount our shared data drive when they come in to work. I read the help section regarding AutoMount, but it a) referred to using ServerAdmin, which I understand has been eliminated from 10.8 (dont know why they are still referring to it in the help!) and b) it talks about AutoMounting Home Folders, but not shared Drives/Folders.
    3) Firewall - I have a static IP and want my users to be able to connect using VPN. I am buying a SSL for the domain. Wondering if the combination of the built in firewall, plus the SSL, plus the built in VPN is secure enough, or should I be investing in a solution such as the SonicWall TZ100.
    Thank you !!!!!

    The Server app is not required to manage your airport.
    The server app can automatically open ports for you, so it makes life easier for a home-server-administrator.
    Continue managing your Airport or whatever NAT router you prefer any way you choose.
    2) Automount Shared Folder/Drive - I would like my users (who are mostly using MacBookPros with they take home and bring back to work) to be able to Automount our shared data drive when they come in to work. You can drag a mounted sharepoint to the right-side of a user's dock.
    It will then remember the sharepoint, and its 1-click to open it when needed,
    This is my preference with laptops.
    You can also add the sharepoint to your user's login items (on their workstations, System Prefs, UsersGroups/, User, Login Items - I don't like to do this with laptops because it causes a login delay when they aren't in the locaiton of the sharepoint.
    Either method is simple.
    I even use Safari bookmarks to get people to a server. Go to the addressbar and type:   afp://[email protected]   (with your real IP) then bookmark it. You can also drag that that URL to the desktop to have a location file which will ALSO take you to the server.
    So Lots of ways...  Depends on users/environment.
    If you aren't going to have anything except for VPN open to the public, then you won't need SSL.
    VPN, but nature, is already encrypted and does not use SSL.
    If you will run Mail, Web, Calendar, Contacts, etc and don't want to requires users to VPN, then you should use SSL.
    TIP: Fromt the start, use a fqdn for your server. Don't use a .private or something fictitious.
    If you own mydomain.com, then setup myserver.mydomain.com and make it your server's hostoname from the get-go.
    Later, you'll be glad you used a proper FQDN

  • Problems creating Struts ActionForm in JDeveloper 9.0.3.3

    I am very new to JDeveloper, where recently i am learning on how to use the struts technology. The problem occurs when i right-click the project file at the navigator and i choose NEW then at the Web-Tier i choose Struts, and at the item columns i choose ActionForm. The thing is the dialog doesnt prompt and it goes back to the main Window. What's the problem? Any patches that i need to upgrade? I use JDeveloper 9.0.3.3 is because my company doesnt want to migrate to 10g for the time being. So, I have limitation in using 10g instead.
    Regards,
    RoLand
    Java Developer

    Hi Roland.
    Yes, you are right. This does not seem to be working in the 9.0.3.x code base. I checked the 9.0.3.4 release and all the available patches and I don't see it as being fixed.
    It is working in the 9.0.4.x release though and that is not 10g... Would that work for you?
    Alternatively, you can could the action form class manually. Check out the 9.0.4 release on OTN to see what is generating and replicate that your 9.0.3.x product.
    Hope that helps.

  • JDeveloper Webservice Creation Question

    While Creating webservices through JDev 11g from WSDL, we are presented with two option :-
    1) Java EE 1.5, with support for JAX-WS annotations
    2) Java EE 1.5, with support for JAX-WS RI
    Could you please let me know which one is the most efficient option.
    I see that in the second option the webservices are configured thru another file(sun-jaxws.xml) and all the requests are directed or handled by a common servlet whereas in the first option we usually configure the endpoint implementation directly in web.xml.
    Another question that i have related to webservices creation - Does webservices wizard internally call wsimport to generate classes from WSDL. When i use wsimport to generate classes using WSDL and specify a jaxb global binding file to convert datatypes, this works correctly but using JDeveloper doesn't creates the Adapter classes to convert the datatypes.
    Answers to the above would be helpful in reaching a decision on which approach to follow. Thanks.

    <validator name="alphabeticString"...> inside the validation-rules.xml file, but i am newbie in javascript programming.
    i have tree question.
    1) why the validation code inside the validator element is written in javascript since it's not going to be executed at client side???
    2)can i use java instead ? (to code teh validation ...)
    3)has anyone got a code to solve this problem ?
    thanks for your help

    i would like to force the content of 'username' property to be alphabetic.
    i guess i have to create my own element
    <validator name="alphabeticString"...> inside the validation-rules.xml file,
    but i am newbie in javascript programming.Not for something that simple... there's a validator rule called mask, which takes a regular expression as an argument, so if you want only a-z: "[a-zA-Z]*" should work.
    1) why the validation code inside the validator element is written in javascript since it's not going to be executed at client side???It is validated on the client, or can be. You have to include the javascript with the html:javascript tag library tag and specify the form name. Then you need to put the onsubmit="return validateFormName();" attribute in the form tag. If JS isn't supported, it'll still default back to the server side validation.
    2)can i use java instead ? (to code teh validation ...)Don't include the JS stuff.

  • Struts ActionForm bean retuning null values

    Hello friends,
    I am new to struts framework, I am trying a simple application which gets form details from user store it in ActionForm and showing in a jsp. Now the problem is when i try to get the bean values form the Action form it is returning only null values. but the values i entered in <html:form> is getting stored in the ActionForm.
    I am very much confused with this problem.Your help is greatly appreciated

    Better try the dedicated struts forum at Apache.They're not per definition forbidden here, but it's just merely that you will have more chance to meet real Apache Struts experts at a Apache Struts forum instead of a general Sun Servlet forum, let alone Sun JSP/JSTL or Sun JSF forum.

  • Struts ActionForm - Is there a bug?

    Hi,
    Ive been using the 9.0.3.3 (build 1205) and
    when I try to create a new ActionForm the wizard
    is not displayed...
    Yes, Ive selected a project in the navigator.
    Does someone have an opinion about that?
    Tks in advance,
    Carlos.

    Problem occurs in JDeveloper 9.0.3.3 Build 1205 and seems to be introduced with the new version of Struts.
    When running jdev.exe instead of jdevw.exe, a stack trace is displayed. Bug 2835622 was logged for that.

  • Newbie Query regarding creation of Recovery disks and Backups

    Hello ppl/Admins,
    Some clarification required (my questions might seem dummy ...but i have no choice).
    I'm a newbie and just received my first laptop ever Lenovo 3000 N200 0769 (WinXP).
    My queries are:
    1) If i create a 'Complete Backup' under Lenovo care application will that include the entire hidden partition? Or do i need to  use some other software like Norton Ghost to  backup the entire image of the  hard drive?
    2)  Is there a way to only backup the hidden partition?
    3) I have noticed in other threads users refering to system and recovery disks, what/how are they used/created (i dont see any
        create recovery disk option under lenovo care button)? How does a recovery or system disk differ from a backup?
    My sole intention is to save/backup the hidden partition so that i could restore the laptop into its factory settings if things go wrong, so if anyone could help....it will be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi atomic, if you look under the lenovo program file you will see two different entries that relate to restore / recovery, I'm not at my machine now to directly tell you what is called, other than one is towards the top half and the other nearer the bottom.
    The one at the bottom has two options, the first is to create recovery media (I'm presuming this is for if rescue & recovery fails to boot up).
    Under this there is then a 2nd option that refers to creating a restore cd, of which it will only let you make s single copy under MS licencing.  I'm of the impression that if required and used, it will take a user back to factory restore settings i.e. original factory restore as it arrived.  This I'm presuming will image the partition as well.
    As for the other recovery option higher up the menu, this is for actuslly creating backups and restoring  system and/or files.

  • WD Java iView Creation Question/Issue - CE 7.1 EHP 1 Trial

    Hi all,
    Im posting this question here seeing as that the issue has arrised on an installation of the AS JAVA and EP shipped with CE 7.1 EHP1 Trial.
    When attempting to create an iView for a deployed custom WD Java app on the trial Portal I am taken straight to the iView template selection without being given the options for iView creation( ie. create from template, portal component or WD Java app). Is this by design ( WD Java iView creation has changed from previous Portal versions or is limited in Trial installation), is this an issue with the components shipped with the Trial or an issue on my installation only?
    Currently my only solution for deploying WD java content is to copy the actual application and paste it as Portal content which then creates a WD Proxy page with a single WD Proxy iView (that of the copy pasted WD app). This is fine for single app scenarios but becomes an issue with multiple apps on one page and drag and relate scenarios.
    Kind regards,
    Willem.

  • Newbie JSP/Servlet general question

    Hi,
    I am currently studying the life cycle of a JSP page from the Java EE 5 Tutorial (http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/tutorial/doc/bnahe.html). This document says that: "+If an instance of the JSP page’s servlet does not exist, the container loads the JSP page’s servlet class, instantiates an instance of the servlet class, initializes the servlet instance by calling the jspInit method+".
    My two questions are:
    i) Does this JSP servlet implement the HttpJspPage interface defined in javax.servlet.jsp?
    ii) Does Struts and Spring MVC provide such JSP servlet Java classes implementations or are these part of other packages? If not, which packages offer such implementations?
