Newbie Video production synchronised with a tune (BPM/frame per beat)

Hello,
I wish to throw my audio track on a timeline, and have a grid allowing me to see the rythm/beats... that way I can just throw video sequences, trim and loop with help of the grid to be perfectly synchronised with the tune! do you see what I mean?? do U know anything that does that or close enough in final cut studio? or should I just use a precise BPM counter on my track and then put in the BPM value somewhere in program,
A lot of people adviced me to use that a converter found online To know how many frames per beat depending on the BPM, but surely a software must be able to dothat??? right?
Thanks for ur help.

You're better off doing this by ear and eye. It's pretty stunningly unlikely that the rhythm of your soundtrack can be described in an even number of 1/24th-of-a-second (or whatever your timebase is) frames. And if a particular beat is marked by something like a cymbal crash, it probably spans across several frames of video.
Editing is an art, not a science. Use your senses to put the cuts where they feel right, and lo and behold, they'll feel right to your audience as well.

  • Stagebox camera converter and Typhoon Ingest Card lower broadcast video production costs with Ethernet

The broadcast video market is in a transition period between the use of proprietary broadcast-specific networks and Ethernet. The proprietary broadcast video network protocols came into existence because, at the time, Ethernet speeds and standards were not up to the demands of live video production. Now they are. Ethernet-based broadcast networks promise to reduce video production costs by allowing the use of standard Ethernet cabling and switches to ship video from multiple cameras at an event to the production and editing suite. But there’s plenty of equipment already in the field that uses the older broadcast video network standards. Two new products developed by Xilinx Premier Alliance Member CoreEL in conjunction with BBC R&D can adapt existing broadcast equipment to Ethernet networks specifically for venues such as small- and medium-scale sporting events and multi-location live events (like elections).

I haven't the faintest idea. I only use DV, HDV and XDCAM-EX/HD and have never tried it with any (RED) 4K material. I assume it should be sufficient to handle that. But let's be honest, when I increased my raid array from 10 to 12 disks, I did not notice ANY performance gains. The limiting factor must be the PCI-e bus or the Areca controller, that just does not show any improvements from adding a couple of disks. Another thing to consider is that the various benchmark programs widely in use show quite different results.
As an example, here are two images from HD Tune Pro, one for my 2 disk raid0 on the Marvell chip and the other from my 12 disk raid30 array. First of all, HD Tune shows the wrong size, it is not 2199 GB but should be 10000 GB (at least that is what Areca claims as shown in the last picture), second it ONLY performs at around 745 MB/s transfer rate.
The most noteworthy item to look at is the rapid performance degradation of this raid0 when the disks get fuller. An average transfer rate of 165 MB/s is quite acceptable for a 2 disk setup, but seeing it go down to below 100 MB/s when the disks fill up is bothersome. It will not allow you to handle uncompressed HD at all.

  • Video Production Path with Final Cut

I am fairly new to the digital world when it comes to shooting anything outside the studio on digital. I have a JVC GY-HM100, capable of 24-60p and high definition. It records directly in .mov format.
I am shooting medieval scenes with sword fighting, etc. I want to make this a fairly artful promotional video with effects added afterward, super-slo mo, etc.
What is a suggested path for shooting format, import settings, and export to web settings? I think 24p might present problems with slo-motion material and anything that moves fast. 60p (1280x720) is likely what I'll choose.
Import I believe is set to HDV 720, 60p.
Export.... what do I export to for a codec for a med-high quality web video?
    Thanks for any advice.

    Get it Planned first.
Then shoot some tests. Then scedule your shoot.
    Then edit.
Then think what effects you want and then figure out how you will perform your effects.
Then worry about uploading to a website. That's a few weeks away.
Then reshoot using your experience to get it right the second time.
Slow motion relies on discreete slices of time. Shoot at the thighest frame rate--not e that is the number frames per second, not the shutter speed--your hardware will support. Makes some tests before you commit your time and the time of your medieval friends in their costumes and props.
This is much more difficutl that you can imagine and if you want artful you must move past your newbie stage. If you are a participant in your pageants, you surely must recall what it was like before you understood how to wield the broadsword convincingly. It takes practice and experience and some tutoring. To underestimate the technical and creative expertise of filmmaking is to risk loss of a limb.

How can I save the settings of my iPhone 4 before resetting the phone in addition to saving the apps etc. by synchronisation with i-tunes

All the phone settings are save in the backup which is automatically created when you sync the phone.

Please clarify what you mean by "resetting" the phone. When you reset the phone, no data is deleted.  Do you actually mean Restore the phone?  See the User Guide, Appendix B for the correct terminology,

  • What is iMovie error code -49? I get when I try to share my edited video in 720p with i tunes.

I edited a homevideo on my new mac Book pro 15-inch. When I tried to share in 720p with iTunes I get a message that says it can't prepare it and gives error code -49. Does anyone know what that means? I have abour 90 GB disc space, so that can't be the problem.

    Hey,
A lot of times iMovie does that when you are trying to prepare a large file. Try to do the same thing in to iTunes as a Mobile or a Medium file and see if it exports fine?

  • When importing a Quicktime file into iMovie the audio is inconsistently synchronised with the video. Any ideas?

I record using Quicktime and the built in webcam on my MacBook Pro. When importing the file to iMovie the audio is inconsistent in its syncronisation with the video. Any ideas?

This is probably caused by the internal webcam on Apple devices being optimized for FaceTime rather than for movie making. In FaceTime, the goal is to transmit the information using a little bandwidth as possible, so the video will be recorded at a variable frame rate. The frame rate will get low if you are still, and will speed up if there is a lot of motion.
To fix, I would suggest that you use a free app like MPEG Streamclip. Drag the clip into MPEG Streamclip and export it out at a constant framerate.
If it is an HD movie, I suggest exporting it from MPEG Streamclip using FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME. Choose Apple Intermediate Codec as your video compression. For sound, choose uncompressed 48khz. That should work, but I can't test it right now. If MPEG Streamclip does not work for you, let me know and I can recommend another free tool.

  • Best 2013 Mac for Pro Video Production with FC Pro X?

We run a small video production company and it's time to upgrade. What is the best current Mac configuration and product for video production. I have a 2013 Macbook Pro that is maxed out but I get choked down by the video card when doing more than 3 multi-cams.
So we need some systems that can handle more cam views and that speeds up produciton.
    Thanks for your help.

I recently took possession of a new Mac Pro (8-core) and it's obvious that it "was made" for FCPX.  Unbelievable performance.  FCP7...oh well, it works as well as could be expected, but no miracles. It's an old app that doesn't benefit from all the cores and memory, but still my standard.

  • I downloaded movies onto my iPad to watch when I was abroad, I synchronised with my laptop and now they are not on my iPad how can I get them back?

I downloaded movies onto my iPad to watch when I was abroad, I synchronised with my laptop and now they are not on my iPad how can I get them back?

If the shows are in fact still on the pad, they will be found in the videos app, not the music or I tunes app.  Look there and see if they are still there.
If you don't see them there, go to the searchlight screen ( farthest left home page) and type in the name of one of the shows.  If it is on the pad, hiding somewhere, this will find it.
If they are not there, they should not be using up space.
To get them back onto your pad, plug in and sync again.  Make sure you transfer purchases first.   Before you sync, take a look at the video tab in your I tunes, and check what you want and don't want synced.

  • How can I find out which .pst or .ost file itunes referres to when synchronising with outlook

I´ve switched to iphone 4S from my 3Gs and would like to "clean" my itunes Sync before I use the new phone. Problem is, that the synchronisation with Outlook 2003 doesn´t work anymore. I guess the reason is that itunes refers to an old .ost or .pst file on my computer. I ve got several outlook profiles and changed from exchange to pop3. My question: How can I find out which .pst or .ost file itunes referres to?
Thanks a lot in advance :-)

Select the tune and then - Get Info - in the dialog box is a note of the Apple ID used to purchase.

I just purchased the HP TouchSmart 600-1215xt CTO Desktop PC with TV Tuner ATSC-NTSC w PVR & remote. I want to connect it to my  HDTV cable set top box (Cox Cable) so I can record TV programs from digital cable and stream NetFlix  video to my 52 in Samsung 1080p HDTV. Where can I find instructions for how to configure this set up?

There is HDMI input with TV tuner
To expand on my post above, the TV tuner does NOT have HDMI input. If you read the User Guide that came with the TouchSmart (p.7, 8), the TV tuner's input is actually an F-type coaxial -- you either use an antenna for an ATSC signal (over-the-air) or NTSC *analog* cable (which is become more rare all the time). You set it up using Windows Media Center, page 18 through to top half of page 22 document how to connect a set top box using various analog (composite or s-video) cables. You can not use component and you can not use HDMI.

  • Server Setup advice for a video production house

    Hello Forum,
I recently started working for a small video production company, I need advice on the type of server and other hardware and services that will allow my co-workers to work efficiently. Here are some details:
Currently we are going to buy a new server, I am not sure what we should look at getting,
currently we use a mini mac running OSX server and have 6 iMacs that the editors and other staff use.
We also have a 15 TB Drobo network storage device which is attached to the mini-mac server we are going to replace.
The production team uses Final Cut and Motion to build documentaries.
The other issue is that need a way to connect the office in Baltimore to the office in Washington DC and ideally share files between each location, currently they cannot access the network from Baltimore and have to have a copy of the unedited footage on their own Drobo.
What type of server setup do you recommend? Quad core? speed?
Should we set up a VPN to connect offices or does someone have a better idea, if so what applications do we need?
I know windows networking pretty well, but Mac is totally new to me.Currently editing files from the server is really slow and files are usually pulled to the iMacs to do editing, burning DVDs from files on the server hardly ever works- they pull them local then burn the DVD and it works.
I would love to hear suggestions to help us get up and running.
Anyone know of a good website for server setup- Since there is no Domains in OSX that i know of, how can we secure the network? Links would be great.
Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions.

Well if your looking for performance. You could get a Promise VTrak E-Class RAID with 32TB of storage, later on you can add more chassis to the raid for more storage space. The raid can be expanded up to 160TB. (80 drive bays, each drive 2 TB)
Using fiber you could attach the raid to an xServer or Mac Pro (running mac os x server). You'll probable want at least 8 or 16 GB of ram on the server.
The server can run a copy of final cut server. Witch makes it easer to work as a group. Mac OS X server, when properly configured, can also be used to create a VPN between both locations.
Final Cut Server will let editors check in/out specific parts of the documentaries. So the project lives on the server; instead of scattered over every ones computers. Part of this is you can pull down thumb nails versions of the video to work off of. Only when you do the final render do you download the HD version of the video.
If you want even better performance on the editing stations. you could also upgrade to Mac Pros. Mac Pros have upgrade slots witch you can use to add fiber networking. You could also use the upgrade slots to add a black magic real time HD capture card.
Or if you want to keep the imacs. you might want to hook the server to a switch by fiber, and have the imacs connected to the same switch by 1000-T
If you call apple i'm sure they'd be happy to help you figure this all out.

  • HT1766 I earsed the contacts data while SYNC with i tunes. I have a back up copy. Every time i do restore it put the contact data in my phone for 30 sec then it does away. How can i store it permenantly

I deleted all my contact trying to sync with I tunes. I am Resstored the contacts from back up. It apears for 30 second then it goes blank abain. can some one guide me on how to save it, also how can I sync my contact to I tunes without deleting the data on my phone

Similar issue -- this is the third time in as many months that I've had to restore my iPad. It's a iPad Mini w/ 32GB (ME277LL/A), running the latest iOS8.1.2. The "other" data starts off about 1GB and will bob around that. I was careful about games this time, seeing only a slight rise in the data. Once it started to rise, I deleted all of the game and the data on Game Center. No joy -- the data stays about the same.
Then I noticed it was really climbing -- shooting up to about 10GB and sitting there, no matter what I did: sync it: nothing. Deleting music (on the off chance it was album art or some such: nothing. Deleted all the books in iBooks: no effect -- still 10GB. Cleared the iCloud storage, cleared caches repeatedly: nothing. Reset everything: no effect. Only Restoring the iPad -- which takes forever and is a gigantic pain in the @$$ -- gets it down. This is exactly the same thing that happened the other two times -- I lose about 10GB to "other."
I now suspect, thinking on what I was doing with the device, that pulling movies from iTunes seems to be the culprit. Deleting the movies might take the movie "off the iPad", but there seems to be a corresponding jump in Other. My guess is there's some glitch dumping the information elsewhere.
It makes a 32GB iPad pretty frickin' close to useless in a remarkable amount of time. I've not had this issue until this iPad (bought last summer) with the iOS8 upgrade. I don't see this happen on the iPhone 5S with the same OS...that's why I dialed down to iTunes (when is it not smack in the middle of issues?) and Video as the culprit; I don't watch movies on the phone.
I've noticed a massive amount of posts in support and around the web on this matter...it might be time for Apple to shift it and do something about the matter. If I'm going to be restricted to surfing the web, email, and little else thanks to the Other issue, it really doesn't make sense to stick with this device. I can doo all that on my laptop, can't it?

I do video productions for a small local TV station. I use Final Cut Express to edit. I need a new video camera but am at a loss as to what to buy. I know I will get a digital camera but do not know the difference between just digital and digital HD. Also, I can not afford an expensive camera and need some advice on which of the available cameras would be best and also work well with a Mac. One last issue, I currently use a Panasonic #CCD camera that takes a tape. When I load video to Final Cut the audio and video are out of sinc. Go figure. Can anyone help with these questions. Karen

    Hello Karen,
If you are using Final Cut Express, then look for camcorders that are AVCHD camcorders.  Look especially for the AVCHD logo and specific mention of AVCHD in the specs.  Most of the major manufacturers produce good quality camdcorders - Canon, Sony, etc.
Also, be aware that there are a lot of "not quite AVCHD" camcorders on the market (sometimes they say they record video as MPEG4-H.264/AVC) - buyer beware!
Most everything you are going to find on the market today is HD, which stands for "high-def".
Regarding your question about the Panasonic camcorder, it's best if you post that as a separate question, and please identify the specific model camcorder and the Easy Setup you are using in FCE.

  • High Speed Fibre based video editing stations with Fibre RAID

Hello. Thanks for checking my post. I hope I can find a solution here…
So, my situation is this. There are two video editing stations (MacPro 8 Core 2.8Ghz/24GB RAM/4x1TB HD/sATA card/2-23” Cinema) in my office. Each tower has 4TB LaCie Biggest Quadra (through sATA connection).
About 3 month ago, I started getting claims from those video editors that the file transfer speed is too slow for their work flow. Basically editors move video footages back and force between two LaCie scratch discs. They’ve tried through our office network (managed gigabit) first, but it was too slow for them. So, for an instant solution, I added sATA card on both towers. Then, I suggested them to use sATA direct connection and swap the drive as they need. However, it was almost impossible for both editors to eject/remove LaCie drive and swap out at the same time. (I didn’t think about their work flow…)
So, they've been using gigabit network to copy files back and force. They do it at the end of the day since it takes many hours. Then, all of the sudden, we started getting very busy and amount of work has got almost doubled. Copy files through network takes all night. And when editors show up early enough morning, file copy is still going. So, we just need to find the better work flow now.
Since then, I started researching online for solutions. I’ve actually visited a real video editing company and had a tour for hardware set up in San Francisco. I came up with, may be, two ways to resolve this, but I’m not sure. So, I would like your opinion.
One is to use the 4GB Fibre switch, then add a new network storage device (may be 8 bay model for $5k+), which comes with Fibre connection. This was recommended by the real video editing company, but they didn’t know much about hardware manufacture. What they had was all high end models. Anyhow, in this way, two Macs and network storage will be connected through Fibre switch. If this seems to be a good solution for my case, does anyone have suggestions on brands/manufactures of Fibre switch, and also the network storage device (RAID) with Fibre connection? I’ve talked to FireWireDirect folks in TX, but they didn’t seem to be too helpful…
Another possible solution, which is more complicated for me is to set up the new server just for the video editing macs with XSAN. After I read its description, it sure sounds like the best way for video, but…..1) its hardware requirement is high 2) Need a new server, 3) Need to buy Promise RAID? (not sure) 4) Needs Mac OS 10.5 server. So, this whole set up looks pretty challenging to me. We use 10.4 Server as our file server. So, I’ve no experience on 10.5.
Anyhow, if any of you who are in the video industry have any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much!

Thank you very much for your info. I called CalDigit and a person told me that they 're releasing the new product within this quarter. So, I may need to wait till it comes out... As per CalDigit, there is no sharable RAID yet.
So, I'm still curious, currently how are video editors using Network Storage Device (more than likely RAID) over the network without using SAN among several computers?
I thought it was easy to find the RAID box with Fibre connection, but I guess not.
Thank you again for your time. I appreciate it.

  • Change of UOM in Product Master with outstanding documents.

    Hi all,
SRM allows the change of base UOM for product master even though there is outstanding document  using that particular product master. Shouldn't it be the case whereby change of base UOM for product master is not allowed if there is outstanding documents?
Furthermore, I did a document check for the outstanding document and no error/warning message complaining that UOM in document does not match UOM as defined in product master. Any idea if this is correct?
    Thanks.

    hello weishan
i will check once again from my side and let you know shortly.
if you could change UOM in SRM master data , then it may not sync with ECC.
i think best practice master data change in source system and synchronise with srm system.
