NewObject("XML") getting "Handler not defined #newObject" on runtime

I'm using Director 11.5.  This code works fine in the debugging/development mode, but as soon as I put it into a projector, I get an error.  The code reads:
      gXML = newObject("XML")
      gXML.load("update_200xml")
Using the _player.debugPlaybackEnabled = TRUE, I can see that the first line is where the script gives the error.  I have the XMLParser.x32 included in my projector.  The projector is running on Windows 7.
So everything runs fine and all code executes when running in development mode.  As soon as I create a projector and run it, I receive the error:
"Handler not defined
  #newObject
Script Error: Continue?"
Any advice on how to get this corrected?
Thanks in advance!

newObject is actually a Flash method, so you will also need to include the Flash Asset Xtra in / alongside your projector.
(Because you are creating a scripted global object rather than using a Flash sprite, the xtra is not added automatically to your movie xtras.)

  • Handler not defined error message

Hello - I'm having difficulty with a custom handler I've
created. Everything works well in authoring mode, but as soon as I
try to create a projector and run it, I get a "Handler not defined"
error message. The handler is used to query an sqlite database.
Here's the code which sits in a linked cast movie script
    on startmovie
    set gDBInstance = new(xtra"sqlite")
    on mDBQuery gSqlstring
    gDBInstance.sqlite_open(the moviepath&"halloffame.db")
    gQuery_fetch_data = gDBInstance.sqlite_fetch(gSqlstring)
    gDBInstance.sqlite_close()
    end
    end startmovie
The handler is called from a frame script as below:
    on enterframe
gSqlstring = "SELECT file_location FROM mediaitem NATURAL
JOIN category WHERE category = 'Equipment' ORDER BY mediaitem.name
    ASC"
    mDBQuery(gSqlstring)
    end enterframe
I'm using Director 11 on Windows XP. I do have all of the
sqlite xtras in an xtras folder next to the executable. Any
thoughts on what I'm doing wrong??
    THX!

I ran a couple test that were interesting, but first I need
to address some bad coding practices.
    miken75,
I see no reason to open and close a database with each query.
Open it at the beginning of the program and close it at the end.
You should always check for errors with every interaction
with a database, including opening it.
In your function "mDBQuery " you pass in a variable called
"gSqlstring" and assign the returned data from the query to
"gQuery_fetch_data". Neither one of these variables should be a
Global. The whole point of the function is to pass in a temporary
string and the function Returns query results. Do not use Globals
    in this situation.
This is a bit nit-picky, but your function names should be
verbs - some sort of action. "mDBQuery " is a noun. Something like
queryDatabase, doQuery, fetchData, etc. would be better.
A basic re-write of your startup code would be:
    global gDB
    on prepareMovie
    gDB = new(xtra"sqlite")
    Okay = gDB.sqlite_open(the moviepath&"halloffame.db")
    if Not Okay then
alert("There was an error opening the Database")
    end if
    end prepareMovie
    on queryDB SqlString
    return gDB.sqlite_fetch(SqlString)
    end queryDB
    on stopMovie
    gDB.sqlite_close()
    end stopMovie
Finally, "EnterFrame" is a really poor choice for an event
that queries a database. "EnterFrame" is used when you need to do
something many times a second, such as an animation. For a singular
event like querying a database I suggest "prepareMovie",
    "startMovie", "beginSprite", "mouseDown", and "mouseUp".
I'm just trying to improve your coding practices. Better
code, means less bugs and going home early.
    To your problem:
I tried a couple things. I placed some startup code and a
function in an internal cast movie script and an "enterframe"
behavior that calls the function in an external cast. I saved and
published, and the executable comes up and gives the handler not
defined error. This error is a Director thing. It has nothing to do
    with your code.
If, however, you shut Director down and run the executable,
then there is no error. This fact implies that when you try to run
Director and the executable at the same time, then Director all
ready has ownership of the external cast file and the executable
therefore can not open it. Although, generally under that kind of
circumstance you get an error message indicating that the file is
in use by a different program. So, I don't know exactly what is
    happening here.
I then moved the "startup" code into the external cast with
the "enterframe" script and published. No error. Director and the
executable run side by side just fine. Weird.
    Hope that helps.
    Randal.

After 3-4 months there is a requirement in which I need to add on custom view in the same component.
i added on custom view YSolCONconfMA  and at the time of creation I have added two context node (Membership and MAGenAtt). I have tired without context node as well but same error message is coming as mentioned below.
Problem : 1 When I am double clicking and try to open the new created view it giving message "View              YLOY102H_MSH/YSolCONconfMA is not defined in the runtime repository that was loaded"
                   2. these two context nodes are not coming with the new created view.
Any budy have have any idea.....
    Best Regards,

    Hi Durga,
You can cross check the created view in the YLOY102H_MSH. Check whether the context nodes are there
    under the view.
In the used component, check in the repository if you have this interface view availabel under the
    component usages.

  • Bug in Flash Professional CC when launching debug launcher xml file handle not released

There appears to be a bug in either Adobe Flash Professional CC, or ADL when launching debug launcher for an AIR application Flash Professional CC automatically generates or updates the XML app descriptor file. The bug is that Flash Professional is not immedately releasing the file handle to the app descriptor XML file.
This bug was introduced in Flash Professional CC (Windows). It did not occur in CS5.5 or CS5.
The question is whether this is a bug related to the ADL, or if this bug is related specifically to Flash Professional CC (Windows).
Either way, where and how do I appropriately report this bug?

    Hi Dharmendra,
Thank you for the solution. It is not what I expected, but it might look like a solution that "could" be applied.
There is still one problem with this approach. If I still use a movie with radial gradient within the bitmap, the same exact problem could occur again.
I was trying to understand if I did something wrong in my code, or it was a bug in the Flash software. I still find weird that I get different results by drawing a movie clip at different positions on a bitmap object. How can the drawing position change if the movie clip is drawn or not drawn? Why does it make mathematical patterns? I guess it has something to do with the precision numbers.
Meanwhile, I did a few extra tests. I tried a new approach with Blur and Glow effects. That is not exactly what I want, but it seems to create a transparent gradient. I might consider this approach if the basic radial gradient does not work. I also created a gradient transparency circle bitmap in Photoshop that I imported into my movie clip. It worked. So, at the moment I have two solutions that seem to be working.
I would appreciate if you could investigate the original problem. It looks like there is a problem in the rendering of Flash. Workarounds are fine sometimes, but I do not expect to developer programs on workarounds.

  • [AIR 3.0] New JSON functionality doesn't work in FlashPro: Error #1065: Variable JSON is not defined

After upgrading the AIR SDK to 3.0 in Flash Professional CS5.5 I've found some problems.
First, the JSON class in the as3corelib.swc library now throws a couple of compile errors:
1061: Call to a possibly undefined method decode through a reference with static type Class.
1172: Definition com.adobe.serialization.json:JSON could not be found.
At first I was completely puzzled, since I had the proper "import com.adobe.serialization.json.JSON;" reference,
and I had the "as3corelib.swc" referenced in my ActionScript Properties, so how could that not be found?
Then, I found out that's because it conflicts with the new internal JSON class included with AIR 3.0
(maybe it should have been called something else, to avoid conflicts with Adobe's own as3corelib library).
The new native JSON class doesn't have the decode() method. Now it's called parse()
Ok, so I've tried using the new JSON class, but after changing decode() with parse() and removing
the "import com.adobe.serialization.json.JSON;" reference, Flash tells me that "Variable JSON is not defined".
Really? The JSON class is showing in the Flash Builder code completion popup,
complete with its all-new parse() and stringify() methods! So why does it say it's not defined?
Also, my SWF file gets compiled with no errors at all, so that verifies that the new 3.0 libraries are in place.
I only get the "JSON is not defined" error at runtime in ADL, not at compile time. Why?
In order to upgrade to the AIR 3.0 SDK, I've followed this guide:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/908/cpsid_90810.html
I know that's about upgrading to AIR 2.7, but I suppose the steps to upgrade to AIR 3.0 would be very similar,
only with the AIR3.0 SDK package, instead of 2.7.
I also took care to type version="13" in all the XMLs, instead of version="12" as stated in that guide, which is meant for 2.7.
Also, I followed this advice about adding -swf-version=13 in the Project Properties window in Flash Builder:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/cantrell/archives/2011/08/how-to-use-the-air-3-beta-sdk.html
But that doesn't seem to make a difference, since, even though I use Flash Builder for code editing (which is usually used for Flex),
my project is a Flash Professional project, not a Flex one, and when testing the project, Flash Builder runs Flash Professional
to compile and then runs adl.exe (it's the same as if you click the option "Control / Test movie / in AIR Debug Launcher (Mobile)" inside Flash Pro).
In the "ActionScript Settings" window in Flash Professional, I also have the proper airglobal.swc referenced (from the AIR 3.0 SDK),
and the same airglobal.swc is referenced in Flash Builder as well (in "Referenced Libraries"), to get proper code completion.
I've tried all sorts of things to try to get it to work, but no luck. Still get the "JSON is not defined" error at runtime.
I'm starting to get desperate about this. I'm going to have to revert back to AIR 2.7.1, to stop wasting time on this issue.
BTW, I'm also having another unrelated problem (though maybe it happens because of the same reason as the other problem).
Now Flash Builder underlines the getTime() method in my code, as if it no longer were a method of a Date class instance.
I have a line where I ask for the timestamp like this:
    ts = new Date().getTime();
That has worked perfectly fine up until now with AIR 3.0.
Now, when hovering the mouse cursor over the orange "(?)" icon that appears at the left, Flash Builder tells me
"Access of undefined property getTime". Why?
The AS3 documentation doesn't say anything about getTime() getting deprecated of anything of the sort:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/Date.html
In fact, in the code completion popup that Flash Builder shows, now there isn't any mention
of get or set methods, as you can see here:
I suppose I can use the .time property instead of .getTime() but I don't know why I'm not getting all the methods I had available before.
Any ideas why all this is happenning? Specially the dreaded "JSON is not defined" error.

Well, after much tinkering, I think I've finally found a way to finally make it work!.
I've created some modified XML files with the profiles needed for AIR 3.0 and after a lot of tries, it finally works!
    I've uploaded them here: http://www.mediafire.com/?d5e761frl5px4
These are the steps needed to get AIR 3.0 running properly:
Put all three files into the folder "c:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS5.5\Common\Configuration\Players"
Then, make sure you've unzipped the AIR 3.0 SDK into the folder "c:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS5.5\AIR3.0" Do not overwrite the contents of the "AIR2.6" folder, as suggested by the "Overlay AIR SDK" article (linked in the above post). It gave me problems. It's best to use a different separate folder. My XML files point to that new "AIR3.0" folder.
Inside the folder "c:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS5.5\Common\Configuration\ActionScript 3.0" create a new folder named "AIR3.0". Inside that folder, copy the file "airglobal.swc" located at "c:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS5.5\AIR3.0\frameworks\libs\air".
Finally, you will have to keep the file "descriptor-sample.xml" in the "c:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS5.5\AIR2.6\samples" folder, but change the xmlns attribute to "http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/3.0"
Yes, you have to change that inside the AIR2.6 folder even if the SDK has been put into AIR3.0. That's because of how the publish settings work in Adobe Flash. It's hardcoded into a DLL, so that can't be changed. Not very intuitive.
I think AIR SDK installations should be a lot more straightforward than this! I know Adobe AIR is meant for developers, not for final users, but still, all these not very well documented upgrade procedures are a pain in the ***. I've wasted A LOT of hours in this (more than half a day), with what should have been a straightforward upgrade!
Adobe should make a SDK installer so we do not have to be tinkering with all these error-prone procedures each time a new update is released!
Well, I hope those XML files are useful to somebody and avoids further frustration.
    Regards,
    OMA2k
PD: BTW, I still have the .getTime() issue described in my above post, but it's not very important,
since I can still use the .time property. Still, it puzzles me why this is happening.

  • PL/SQL procedure "Not Defined"

I have created a PL/SQL procedure, compiled it successfully, and am trying to call it from
an "onmouseover=" construction in the Link Attributes for a report column.
I have created an application process entry for this procedure in Shared Components/Application Processes.
When I place the mouse pointer over the column in the report I get an error stating
    the procedure is "Not Defined".
I am trying to implement this onmouseover event in a manner similar to how it is implemented in the "Aria People, 0.92" packaged application I have downloaded from the Oracle/APEX web site. In the downloaded "Aria People, 0.92" application I have installed the onmouseover="ARIA_DETAIL(this,'#PERSON_ID#")" call works fine (on page 1 of the app).
Interestingly, if I take the exact same call to the ARIA_DETAIL() procedure and place it in my application I also get a 'Not Defined' error on the ARIA_DETAIL() procedure.
Clearly I am failing to do what is needed to have a PL/SQL procedure "Defined" for an APEX application. Can some kind soul please tell me what I have failed to do here?
    Thank you in advance.
    Jim Lewis

    Jim,
Sorry to go to the basics but am I correct about the following?
    1. You created the pl/sql process as an ondemand process.
    2. You added the ARIA_DETAIL javascript function to the page on which your calling it.
I'm just guessing but it sounds like you missed the second step there. Take a look at the application you got the code from and look at the Page Attributes. You should see some code in the HTML Header. That's what you need to add to your app.

    Hi Chief Mendenhall,
It's really a Microsoft error, not a Acrobat error, but I know that doesn't make the inability to sign any less frustrating.  This probably has something to do with the communication bridge between Acrobat, Windows, and the CAC software. I know you're not responsible for software upgrades, but is there any chance you can download the free Adobe Reader (Adobe Reader Install for all versions). Even though Reader doesn't have the same editing capability as Acrobat Pro, it will allow you to sign a PDF file, and what I'm looking to see is if this is somehow related to the age of version 8.1, which is well past its end-of life. Even version 9 in longer supported.
    Thanks,

  • "Class not found" error at runtime when ExternalLib DC is included in WD DC

    Hi All,
I am getting "Class not found" exception at runtime when external library DC is included in Webdynpro DC.
I am following the below steps..
    1) Created a Webdynpro DC - "testProj" to which i need to add the external library DC.
    2) Created a DC of type "External Library" called "externaljar"
3)Added Public Parts of type assembly and compilation to the "externaljar" DC (Component Properties Tab -> Public Parts)
    4) Right click on the assembly Public Part name -> Manage entities, and added the JAR files as archive.
5)Right click on the compilation Public Part name -> Manage entities, and added the JAR files as archive.
6)Go to Webdynpro DC "testProj" .
Under Component Properties Tab -> Dependencies tab -> Add -> selected the "externaljar" DC -> Next -> for "externaljar" DC checked Deploy time and Run time.
For assembly Public Part and compilation Public Part "build" is selected by default.
    7) I did build of both the DC's and deployed it.
Im getting "Class not found" error.
Please let me know where i am going wrong.
    Thanks,
    Shilpa.

    Hi Balakrishna,
If I add Jar files in build path, at run time I dont get any errors, but I get error at comple time. So an external DC is made which includes all jar files in its public part and this DC is added as dependency in the webdynpro project (at deploy time, run time) as in below blog.

  • Why would I get ReferenceError #1065: "Variable title is not defined."

Well of course it's not defined.  It's a dynamic class, and strict mode compilation is turned off so that I don't have to declare the property to compile it.
I've created a library item named "Page" with a single TextField instance named "title".
Page's class is defined in an ActionScript file, and it's assigned to the library item in export for ActionScript.
Page's ActionScript file defines the class as a "dynamic" class, so I should not be getting this runtime error.  I turned off strict mode compiling, since it seems to be designed to check the presense of property definitions at compile time for dynamic classes like MovieClip.
public dynamic class Page extends MovieClip
        public function Page()
            super();
var text:String = title.text; //title can be moused over in the debugger here and shows the correct value, but the flash player throws a runtime error when it tries to access it, but it shouldn't because this is a dynamic class.
So why am I getting a runtime error for the field "title".  It makes no sense, because if I step to that line in the FlashDevelop debugger and hold the mouse over "title", it shows that it is in fact the instance of the TextField that I'm trying to access.  Yet the player throws an error when I actually try to access it.
Is it a problem or limitation with the access style (i.e. would it work fine if I accessed it as "this.title" or "this["title"]"?

Nevermind.  This was apparently a browser caching issue.   The Page base class is defined in the main interface swf, and is externally referenced through its swc in an external "lesson" file that declare a subclass of Page.  It was this custom subclass of Page which was throwing the error (basically the same as the simplified example I wrote for my post, where it simply tried to access "title" as a dynamic property of the Page).  What happened is the browser was caching an old version of the lesson file with the old definition of the class that was not declared as dynamic.  I had received the error before, then updated the class, then I was surprised to see the error persist.  It suddenly dawned on me that the browser was probably caching the old version, so I cleared the cache and it seems to work fine now.
Actually, it is a problem after all.  I forgot I had updated it to use "this.title" syntax on the page I tested after clearing the cache, but the other pages that try to access title directly as "title" still throw the error.  So it seems to be some sort of quirk in how flash accesses properties of a dynamic class.  If you try to access them direclty, it must do so in a way that requires the property to be defined, but if you access it via "this.title" or this["title"], the it seems to resolve the property value without throwing the error.
This sucks.  I was really trying to not have to write "this." for every property.  The entire display list is dynamically generated from some custom XML that allows me to call constructors and set complex type-safe properties, and during construction it was copying each item into a Dictionary by name.  This Dictionary was then assigned to the page class as "items", so I was accessing each display object as "item.name".  Then I got the brilliant idea of just making Page and its subclasses "dynamic" so that I could just add the DIctionary values on the Page instance itself.  I thought I would be able to access the dyamic properties just by their name such as "title", but lo and behold, Flash strikes again, and I have to use dot notation anyway.  What do you all think?  Any solutions?

  • UWL displaying workflow NOT defined in the XML

Can someone tell me why/how some workflows are displaying in UWL even though the workflows are not defined in the XML file?

    Hi Daniel,
This is the case for many "legacy" workflows launching SAP(Web)GUI transactions or BSPs.
It works like this: if the UWL cannot find a corresponding task type for an arriving work item from Business Workflow in its XML configuration, it assigns the task type "uwl.webflow.default". In the standard uwl xml file you can see that tasks of this type are launched using the SAPTransactionLauncher (not specifying the TransactionCode parameter).
As you can see in the documentation (https://help.sap.com/javadocs/NW04S/SPS09/uw/com/sap/netweaver/bc/uwl/config/doc-files/ActionHandlers.html), if the TransactionCode is empty, the action handler defaults to the Business Workflow transaction "SWK1". This transaction (the UWL is now out of the picture) just redirects to the target transactions defined in the workflow itself.
Any matching entry in the UWL XML configuration will however override this default behavior.
Good question though. Hope this clarifies it to some extend...
    Best,
    Matthias

Just like the title says, starting with Firefox 4 Beta 6 or 7, I forgot. Any time I try to open a new blank tab (sometimes even when I start up Firefox and the app tabs load) I get an error that says "JavaScript Application - Reference Error: XPCSafeJSObjectWrapper is not defined" If I close it everything works as normal again (until I open a new tab) but it is very annoying to have to do this. Is there any fix for this or is the bug just still there?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
