Nexus 5548UP lacp with IBM AIX P740

We are currently working in a lab to configure our first pair of 5548UP(with a 2232PP on each) with FCoE to an IBM p740 AIX server.  On the Nexus side I have confugured the physical port e100/1/1 (2232pp) to be in a channel-group that will be part of a vpc with the other 5548UP switch, I am trunking all vlans in the etherchannel with the IBM server.  Everything is working, i have the port-channel UP, the vfc and vpc when I use ''channel-group x mode ON'' on the physical ports and on the server side the 803.2ad is not active, it's configured ''roundRobin''.
Suppose I want to use LACP for the connections with the server should I configure the Nexus switch port with ''channel-group x mode active'' or ''channel-group x mode passive''?  When the server is configured with ''802.3ad'' enabled and when I have ''channel-group x mode active'' or ''passive'' it doesn't work, the port-channel x does not come UP.
Does anyone have an explenation of how I should be configure?
Thanks

Hello,
Using LACP passive or active mode should not make much of a difference as long as one of the sides of the port-channel actively negotiates LACP.  In most cases, we just configure both sides to be LACP active.
When you say the port-channel is not working when using LACP, what are the symptoms?
Are the physical ports in "I" state?'
'show port-channel summary' will show this
What does the output of "show lacp counters interface port-channel X"  show?
This command will tell you if the Nexus 5K/2K is receiving LACPDUs from the IBM device (and if we are sending them).  I would suggest to collect the LACP counters to verify that we are receiving the LACP packets from IBM, otherwise Nexus will not bring up the port-channel.  Here is an example output from my lab switch:
5548-2019# show lacp counters interface port-channel 500
                    LACPDUs         Marker      Marker Response    LACPDUs

  • Nexus 5548UP VFC with multiple physical interfaces

I have a physical host that is evenly quad-homed to a pair of 2248PQ Fex's. Each NIC interface is 10Gb.
Each of my fex's is single homed to a 5548UP in a VPC configuration. I am using FCoE and I have CNA's in my host. My design is below.
On the LAN side, I would like to have a full 40Gb LACP / VPC Port channel. On the FC side, I would like to be able to create a VFC on each side, (or multiple VFC's if that is required), and attach it to both interfaces on each side, so that I have two full FC paths from the host to each SAN fabric, also for a total of 40Gb.
I've seen some Cisco diagrams in some much older forum posts that show that this is not possible, but I've seen nothing recent on this. Does anyone know if it's possible?

    Hi,
If you have two different storage separated, then how this would be possible since in that condition you need to allow both storage on same Port-channels which I think is not valid design.
Have you got any answer or solution for this ?
    Regards
    Ajay

  • Nexus 5548UP with 1Gb ether to 10Gb ether on same switch

I have a Nexus 5548UP switch with a couple of systems some of which have been configured with 1Gb nic's running various OS's and other that have 10Gb nic's.  When I try to SSH from 1Gb box to a 1Gb box everything is fine, when I SSH from 1Gb to 10Gb box it does not work but 10Gb to 10Gb boxes will work.  The switch is a fresh install and has one VLAN 51 the first 2 ports are setup with LACP and the only differences is speed of 1000 and 10000 for the boxes attached.  Is there some trick or additional configuration that is needed to make 1Gb to 10Gb work for SSH and other applications?  I trying to setup some test boxes now to have a repeatable environment and will update when completed.

We are planning to go for SAP Netweaver CE 7.1.
(Usage Type : Web As for Java, EP Core & EP)
CE 7.1 is a separate product, you can´t install EP (core) on top of it. If you want to run a portal you need to install Netweaver 7.0.
Kindly route me to some SAP Notes/Docs/Links for Prerequisites/Installation notes/Constraints and provide me
the Latest Versions available of OS: AIX,DB :Oracle & SAP etc..
I´d start with the official installation guides:
    http://service.sap.com/instguides
    --> SAP NetWeaver
    --> SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s)
    --> Installation
Media List for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR3
    and
    SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR3 - Installation Guides
What are all the issues I might face at the time of Installation?
Do I need any Oracle Patch?Do I need any OS Level Patch?
Read the installation guides, everything is documented there. It will point you to notes and additional documentation.

  • Interoperability between Cisco Nexus 5548UP and IBM FC3171

    Dear Techies,
We have a Cisco Nexus Switch 5548UP already in our environment with DS-SFP-FC8G-SW installed. We are planning to procure IBM Pure Flex Chassis without FC Switch, since we already have Nexus that can provide this facility. But in order to connect IBM Flex with Cisco Nexus we are planning to use IBM FC3171 Switch with IBM 44X1964 Transceivers which will act as a Mediator/Pass Through Switch for connecting IBM and Cisco.
If any expert knows OR have used this scenario, please let me know since I am interested to know if it will work in this scenario or not.
    Regards,
    Farhan.

    Dear prkrishn
I am working on the Data Center Solution between two Data Center, details underneath
    DC 1 Site
    1. 2 x DC Core Switch (Nexus 7009) - will be used for Servers, Application, IBM V7000, Database, etc.
    2. 2 x Network Core Switch (Cisco 6509) - Handle Campus and Inter Building connection.
    3. IBM V7000 (SAN)
    DC 2 Site
    1. 2 x DC Core Switch (Nexus 7009) - will be used for Servers, Application, IBM V7000, Database, etc.
    2. 2 x Network Core Switch (Cisco 6509) - Handle Campus and Inter Building connection.
    3. IBM V7000 (SAN)
With the above mention setup, can I configure FCIP between DC1 & DC2 using Nexus 7009? or I need FCIP capable Switch such as IBM SAN Switch (SAN06-BR), I was wondering if I can configure FCIP on Nexus 7009 DC Switch.
Hoping for your kind response at earliest.
    Kind Regards,
    Arnold

  • Installing oracle 11.2 rac with IBM Storwize V7000 san with aix 6.1

Has and one deployed 11g rac with IBM Storwize V7000 san with aix 6.1
Is this possible using Oracle CRS without going for OS cluster like GPFS

    Hi lbn76,
Has and one deployed 11g rac with IBM Storwize V7000 san with aix 6.1
Is this possible using Oracle CRS without going for OS cluster like GPFS
I hope same thing will work with AIX 6.1 alsoNo problem, the procedure of installation of clusterware is the same in any AIX Platform.
If you are using Clusterware 11.2 you can (should) use ASM Diskgroup to place your clusterware files and database files. If you want use Cluster Filesystem to any other purpose you can use ACFS feature of ASM.
The Storage will be transparent to the ASM, the Luns will be mapped to AIX and ASM (Oracle) will manage the read and write.
The Storage Storwize have several great features, but are transparent to the ASM. The ASM will only see the LUNs provided by AIX.

  • Oracle 11g on IBM-AIX 5.3 LPAR with VIO-server

    Hi
We are researching the implementation of Oracle RAC 11g on an IBM LPAR solution running IBM AIX 5.3 TL06
    These LPAR's use a VIO-server for I/O access.
Now the one document says VIO isn't supported for Oracle RAC, the other document says it is, and jet another states it is only supported for use with ASM
Can someone point me to a site with actual support information and/or can anyone tell me if RAC actually works on a LPAR with a VIO-server
    Thanks in Advance

IBM AIX 5.3 VIO is currently supported for all Oracle products, database and/or ERP including certain RAC Configurations as documented in Metalink certify.
    Check metalink note 282036.1
If You want to use RAC, then 10.2.0.3 RAC or higher must be used and only the Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM) feature is approved for Oracle RAC and VIOS configurations.
    No other restrictions.
In Your case You can use 11g RAC with VIO, but don't forget that ASM should be used as well.

  • C-200 M2 with P81E to Nexus 5548UP

    Hi all,
I'm working on a project which is about to set up a Cisco UCS Lab.
Actually the topology looks simple and easy but there must be some missconfiguration on my side because i can't see any of IDs (P81E's wwpn and mac address info) from the Nexus 5548UP.
I connected my 5548UP to MDS 9124 for providing the FCoE traffic to the C-200 Farm.
Then i configured the MDS with NPIV and converted couple of ethernet ports to the FC ports on 5548UP (which i'm using to connect to the MDS)
Finally i connected my C-200M2's VIC to the 5548UP but i couldn't see any information about server. The ports actually are up. But can't see nothing.
Some help and advises will be appreciated.

    Padma,
Right now i connected the N5548 directly to the storage for that reason you can not see the fc uplink connections on running-configuration.
    On Nexus 5548 ;
Ethernet 1/1 and Ethernet 1/2 are the server ports (P81E)
Ethernet 1/15 is the Uplink Ethernet port
Fc 1/31 1/32 is the Storage Ports
Storage has been configured for the wwpns and LUNs.
And here is the configuration :

  • Returning 250 rows with 1000 Values in "IN" Clause Oracle 10g On IBM AIX !!

    Hi,
Recently we have done the OS migration of Oracle 10g Server from Windows Server to IBM AIX. Everything is fine, But today we came across one crucial bug in the code, i.e In the Select Query, though we're expecting 1000 rows with 1000 values in "IN" Clause , It's returning Only 250 rows. Where as it's returning 1000 rows in Windows Environment with 1000 values in "IN" Clause. I have browsed throgh Google for the resolution but failed to get that.
    This is something like,
In Oracle 10g On windows :-
    select * from emp
    where dept_id in (1,2,3,...................1000);
Assuming there  are the dept_id values in Emp table from 1 ... 1000, It's returning 1000 rows.
In Oracle 10g On IBM AIX ,
    select * from emp
    where dept_id in (1,2,3,...................1000);
Assuming there  are the dept_id values in Emp table from 1 ... 1000, It's returning 250 rows. Pls help me, what could be the reason for this. and what needs to be checked to fix this.
    Pls suggest !!!
    Raja

mmmh. Did you compared the select count(*) from your_table; in the two cases.
If the result is not good and nobody has deleted rows between migration and your test, you migration need to be replayed.
Which migration did you select, Transportable database or exp/imp...?

    Hi Cheriyan,
Here is te URL to the 6200 series FI data sheet:

  • What's the deal with product availability on IBM/AIX?

Can some rep from Oracle explain why IBM/AIX is always last in line for new versions of Oracle software (database/app server) to become available?
We're now in a situation where iAS9.0.4.0.0 is at stage projected on IBM/AIX for quite a while now and we need it badly. What's the holdup?

  • Nexus 5548UP with Checkpoint firewall

I know this is a little out of scope, but was hoping someone would have some insight.
I have two Checkpoint firewalls connected to Cisco Nexus 5548UPs 10G. I am noticing a lot of dropped RC on the Checkpoint interfaces. I'm wondering if the firewalls cannot support the fast cut-through speed of the Cisco switches. Is there anything I can do on the Cisco side to help the Checkpoints handle the traffic? Flow control maybe? Thanks.

    Hi Adnan,
Kindly check the PPT attached  for more detailed design tips for same.
