NFS for clustering

Hi
There two methods in using NFS for Oracle datafiles in RAC
1. creating ordinary datafiles in NFS shared path
2. creating zero filled files in NFS shared path and then using them as disk for ASM
My question is that which method is better in terms of performance for operational environment ?

The optimal and most performant architecture is the one with the minimal number of moving parts to achieve the desired result.
In the case of RAC, it means using ASM to manage the shared stored devices for you. It means that there should ideally be no unnecessary software layers between ASM and these shared storage devices. ASM should use the shared storage directly as block devices - and these block devices should be the LUNs visible via the multipath/powerpath driver software that "publishes" these (fibre channel/Infiniband/etc) storage LUNs for the o/s to use.
Throwing an IP layer and other s/w layers in between, affects both robustness and performance.

I have been planning and deploying my companies first Windows Server 2012/SQL Server 2012 Always On cluster and Always On Availability Groups Multi-Subnet cluster and instances for SharePoint 2013, and I will be brutally honest, the documentation on either
the MSDN and TechNet leave alot to be desired. Continually finding links in the documentation will take me from a Windows 2012 reference to a page talking about Windows Server 2008 or R2, The differences of which there are so many when it comes to configurations,
settings, roles, services when working with SQL Server 2012. I have been confused, frustrated, screaming mad, with all the misdirection in this documentation. The documentation takes me windows 2008 R2 which is different than 2012!

In general, DTC is not required for SQL 2012. But, since you are asking specifically about SharePoint, it would be better to ask in a SharePoint forum. They would be more likely to know those situations where FTC might be needed by SharePoint.

Because, that is where the ( Time & Payroll) Transactional Data is stored.. For Reporting off the Master Data tables you can use the PAnnnn & HRPnnnn Tables with the relevant Authority checks.. Windows serv 2012 cluster on sql 2012 cluster with 2 instance. on works fine , Second instanc ewhen i try to creat DB a get this message.

Hope somebody will be able to help me with the following issue.
I have the following environment configuration:
1. WFC cluster (cluster1) contains 3 nodes - sql1,sql2,sql3
2. sql1 and sql2 can run single shared instance SQL server
3. Node sql3 is a standalone SQL server.
4. AlwaysON is turned on shared instance and standalone SQL servers and availability group have been configured for multiple DBs. So sql3 is a replica of shared instance.
5. All this runs on Vmware as a virtual machine.
I'm constantly getting following error in Microsoft-Windows-CCFFilter/Operational logfile when I execute SQL DB/Transaction log backup maintenance plan on my shared instance SQL server (sql1 or sql2):

Getting multiple mentioned errors for every single DB I'm running my backup maintenance plan against. The maintenance plan gets executed on SQL1 which is shared instance machine.

Yes. I'm doing backup on primary replica in the AlwaysOn Availability Group. And this primary replica itself is a WFC shared SQL instance.
I've double checked Maintenance Plan's History and Agent's logs. No Error, no warning, nothing. And by the way DB full and transaction log backups gets created as they should. By that I mean that 'For availability databases, ignore Replica Priority for Backup
and Backup on Primary Settings' property is turned on and this allows me to do backups from primary replica.
As you've written I've clear the maintenance plan setting ''For availability databases, ignore Replica Priority for Backup and Backup on Primary Settings.', and configure the availability group's AUTOMATED_BACKUP_PREFERENCE setting to allow backup from any
replica for certain availability group. But still nothing. Getting the same error.

Set logging severity level for clustered servers

How can I set the logging severity level for clustered servers just once at the cluster level rather than one at a time at the server level?

I know the logging is server by server, but surely there is a way to configure the multiple servers with one change rather than one by one. We have 40 some servers in the cluster.

ADF Library Error on Remote Managed Server for Clustering

I wanted to configure 2 managed servers on different PCs for clustering. For this purpose first I created 2 managed servers on my test domain which is on my PC1. Tested my ADF applications for each managed server (srv1 and srv2) on PC1. They passed. When I moved one of these servers to another PC (PC2) with the following commands below, the commands said it was succeeded.
on PC1:
pack -managed=true -domain=E:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\test_domain -template=E:\Oracle\Middleware\user_template\TEST_DOMAIN.jar -template_name="TEST"
onPC2: (Remote PC)
unpack -domain=test_domain -template=D:\oracle\Middleware\user_template\TEST_DOMAIN.jar
After these steps, I started my servers on command line by using the commands below:
on PC1:
startManagedWebLogic.cmd srv1 http://localhost:7011
on PC2: (Remote Managed Server)
startManagedWebLogic.cmd srv2 http://30.1.2.192:7011
srv1 changed its state to RUNNING mode easily, however srv2 changed its state to RUNNING with a lot of errors which were pointing that the ADF libraries and applications couldn't be found.
After the errors on srv2, I removed srv2 from the targets of libraries by using the Deployments screen of administration console.
Then I stopped srv2 and started it by using command line. It worked without any library and application. There was no error.
After those steps, I want to add srv2 to the targets of libraries. When I tried to do this I faced with the error message below:
An error occurred during activation of changes, please see the log for details.

NOTE: the Absolute Path of the *"WLS Installation"* and *"Domain Directory"* must be same (Identical) in both the BOXES. Looks like the Path *"E:\Oracle\Middleware\oracle_common\modules\oracle.adf.model_11.1.1\adf.oracle.domain.ear"* doesnt exist in your Remote Box (PC-2). D:\oracle\Middleware.
I Think mistakenly u have installed WLS in <font color=red>E:\</font> in one Box and <font color=red>D:\</font> in another Box.

Your storage should be on a SAN disk array, both machines should have access to the RAW partitions at the hardware level. Before you setup a cluster you have to first insure that you are using a certifed hardware clustering vendor.

Help with setting up active directory domain controller/DNS - need this for Clustering

Disclaimer: I am new to Active Directory, so please dont rule out the obvious things I may have overlooked.
I need to set up Active Directory Domain controller on at least one server so I can run clustering. I set up the domain controller and ran Cluster validation and that failed - unable to reach writable domain controller.
When I look at my server manager AD DS complain about DNS:

NFS for portable home directories not working

I just recently tried to move our PHD's over to NFS instead of AFP to allow for fast user switching and some other reasons.
However it doesn't work at all... The automount seems to work fine, as I can browse to /Network/Servers/servername/Users/ fine, but when the user tries to sync, a dialog pops up:
The sync could not complete because your network home at "nfs://servername/Users" is currently unavailable.
Try again later when it is available.
and then in the console it shows:
com.apple.SystemUIServer.agent[14236] mount_nfs: /Volumes/Users: Operation not permitted
HomeSync[14369] HomeSync.syncNow: Unable to mount server URL at 'nfs://servername/Users', status = 65.

It seems like its trying to mount it at /Volumes/Users, but it can't (because a normal user can't mount nfs volumes?(..as far as i know))...and furthermore I don't know why it needs to mount it at /Volumes/Users when it's already automounted at /Network/Servers/servername/Users

I just managed to get my first sync to work.
My server exports /opt/home/<user> but not /opt/home since each user has a separate lvm volume. What worked was the following:
dscl . -delete /Users/<user> dsAttrTypeStandard:OriginalHomeDirectory
dscl . -append /Users/<user> dsAttrTypeStandard:OriginalHomeDirectory "<homedir><url>nfs://find/opt/home/<user></url><path></path></homedir>"
This is similar to what I saw on http://managingosx.wordpress.com/2009/02/19/leopard-mobileaccounts-and-nfs-homes / except putting the users name (in place of <user> as part of the url instead of part of the path.
The value for dsAttrTypeStandard:OriginalHomeDirectory was formerly /Network/Servers/<server>/opt/home/<user> which is a perfectly good directory, but not a url. I don't know why it wouldn't use the directory and manufactured a url instead.
By changing the value back to default and making my server export /opt/home, I'm still able to sync. Naturally I like this solution much better.
Doesn't seem like this solution will help you much if a given user can sync on some machines and not others, unless maybe you have different export rules to different machines in your network.

Where to find a tutorial for clusters and bundling by name?

I have a huge vi. I need data to flow from one multistep loop to another. I want to make it a subvi for another vi, but there are too many connections for it to be created.
The help error suggests i use some clusters.
I would like to view some basic examples and tutorials of bundling by name, etc.
However, I need to see the values in the cluster and sometimes edit them.
Any suggestions?

It sounds to me as if you should look into Type Definitions (aka Typedefs) in LabVIEW, starting with the manual or the online help. When a typedef is passed into and out of a subVI and a new element is added to it, you don't need to make any changes to the subVI connections.
With regard to your question, though: yes, you can modify subVI connector blocks after they are initially created, but it becomes very painful if you have a lot of instances of the subVI, because you have to update a lot of wiring.

You don't need another "cluster license". The downloaded
          version is clusterable.
