NI 9866 LIN module on 28V bus

Hello!
I need test an automotive component that operates on 28V LIN bus. This is the operating voltage of a LIN bus in trucks. The voltage will be raised to 32V in an overvoltage test. The VBAT voltage specification of the NI 9866 is 8V to 18V, although the XNP TJA1028 LIN driver that is used in this modul allows 40V supply voltage. Is there a way I can use this modul on 32V? Are there other reasons the VBAT pin is limited to 18V?
Bye
Solved!
Go to Solution.

The reason why we spec the module to 8-18 is for two reasons:
1) The LIN standard indicates that the operating voltage of the bus is 8-18V.
2) Our current NI-XNET PXI/PCI LIN hardware (and legacy NI-CAN USB LIN hardware) use a different transceiver that is only rated to 8-18V. If you use something beyond this range, it will not be portable to our other solutions.
The TJA1028 data sheet does have some conflicting information. They are clear that 40V is their absolute max. In the one place they mention that it may not work > 18V (Table 7, note 5 says "For VBAT > 18 V, the LIN transmitter might be suppressed."), but in other places they indicate that the working range is 4.5-28V (Section 7.2.1: "The operating range is from 4.5 V to 28 V.").
If you are running between 18V and 28V, the Application Hint AH1003 indicates that it should work, but is also not fully guaranteed to run correctly "LIN functional specified. Voltage regulator full specified"
If you are running > 28 V (overvoltage test), you are outside of the working range of the TJA1028. The TJA1028 is not guaranteed to run correctly. It should be safe from damage, but it is not guaranteed to run correctly. (from AH1003, "SBC not damaged. Functionality will be ok, but no parameters are guaranteed".)
The other components contained in the NI 9866 Module that connect to VBAT should tolerate the 40V as well without any issues. I am still looking up one thing (power dissipation), but I believe even at 40V we will not be exceeding the allowable power dissipation.

• Nexus 7010 with F3 line modules. The modules are not "powering on" ?

Hi,
Just tried installing a new Nexus 7010, With a couple of F3 line modules.
I cant seem to figure out how to get them to come online.
They flash with red LED and from a "show module" they show as powered down.
Its a fresh nexus install, What could I be missing here? Do I need to "provision them somehow?
Thanks

No idea if this helps at all.
Its a new install,
It contains the default VDC and an admin user. No other config has been done.

• Bus error in starting Xorg

I've been trying to get Xorg to work, but I've been having some issues.
I worked out all the warnings indicated in my /var/log/Xorg.0.log but the main issue seems to be in line 112 to 115,
Bus error at address 0xb73c88c0
Fatal server error:
Caught signal 7 (Bus error). Server aborting
But I don't really know how to fix it, and I can't find any documentation of this error.
The same thing happens with my xorg.conf and with running without an xorg.conf
I'm running it on an Acer Aspire One, which has Intel 945GME integrated graphics

Hi all,
I am using a NI 9866 Xnet LIN module with a cDaq-9174. I try to read my LIN2.0 frame and record them in a TDMS file. I have no problem to read the LIN frames but I don't know how to save the frames. I would like to separate the data by bytes as you can see in the following table :
TimeStamp

Hello Stephan_D,
Thank you for your answer !
I will try to be clearer...Yes, I can receive LIN frames !! I use the "LIN Frames to Table" to save the frames. My problem is that I want to separate the data by Byte.
Actually, I have only 1 "Excel case" for 8 data bytes and I would like to have 1 "Excel case" for 1 data bytes (or 8 "Excel case" for 8 data bytes)
Actually :

Needed :
data
AA

I hope you understand what I need. Thank you.

• How to transfer the contents of a line of a table control to second screen?

Hi,
I have a table control and I have entered some contents in one line of a table control .
When i click on this line and then click on the detail button on the screen , it should take me to another screen and whatever I have entered in the table control should be transferred to the second screen .
Please could anyone help me out with this .
Regards,
Sushanth H.S.

Hi
U need to get the index of the line of table control by command GET CURSOR:
PROCESS PAI.
LOOP AT ITAB.
       MODULE GET_CURSOR.
       MODULE MODIFY_ITAB.
ENDLOOP.
MODULE USER_COMMAND.
Module to pick up the selected line:
MODULE GET_CURSOR.
      GET CURSOR LINE VN_LINE.
ENDMODULE.
Module to transfer the data from table control to internal table:
MODULE MODIFY_ITAB.
      ITAB-FIELD1 = <FIELD OF TABLE CONTROL>.
      MODIFY ITAB INDEX <TABLE CONTROL>-CURRENT_LINE.
ENDMODULE.
U should considere the variable line has the value of the index of the line of table control, so u need to calculate the number of the corresponding line of internal table:
MODULE USER_COMMAND.
      CASE OK_CODE.
        WHEN 'DETAIL'.
* Calculate the line of internal table:
           VN_LINE = <TABLE CONTROL>-TOP_LINE + VN_LINE - 1.
* Read the data
           READ TABLE ITAB INDEX VN_LINE.
* Transfer the data to the output structure of the new screen
           <STRUCTURE>-FIELD1 = ITAB-FIELD1.
* Call the new screen
           SET SCREEN <NEW SCREEN>.
           LEAVE SCREEN.

• In VB6, why is the "GPIBNotify sub" (from the GPIBNotify AtiveX Ctrl) all the time called even if no Event happened? This callback function is started then stopped permanently as if its received SRQ from the GPIB Bus. Any ideas?

I'm programming in Visual Basic 6 to communicate between a computer and HP Measurement Devices (BER-Meter) with GPIB. I have already read information and code for this. My platform is W98. The NI488.2 commands can be sent without any problem between the equipements. However when I'm using the GPIBNotify ActiveX Control to use the callback function, there is a permanent starting and stop of the GpibNotify Sub. The SetupMask and RearmMask are set to RQS and the HP Device is well configured. Moreover an oscilloscope measuring the 10th line (SRQ
) of the bus didn't show any pulse on the line behalf the right one. Any Idea?

Hello-
So, the SRQ is not detected by the oscilloscope? It must be a setting that is not correct with the instrument. Try contacting the manufacturer of the instrument for details about SRQ's. The GPIBNotify ocx will not be able to react to an SRQ if there isn't one.

• Error message: no registered trigger lines

Hi,
I was using the example within labview 7.1 under "Hardware input and output ------Daqmx ------Synchronization------Multi-function---multi-funtion-synch AI-AO.vi". I was using pci-6032e card (device 2) for input and pci-6713 card (device 1) for output.
Then this error message jumped out when I was trying to run the labview vi.
Possible reason(s):
No registered trigger lines could be found between the devices in the route.
If you have a PXI chassis, identify the chassis correctly in MAX, and make sure it has been configured properly. If you are using PCI devices, make sure they are connected with a RTSI cable and that the RTSI cable is registered in MAX. Otherwise, make sure there is an available trigger line on the trigger bus shared between the devices.
Source Device: Dev2
Destination Device: Dev1
Task Name: _unnamedTask<9>
I am using RTSI cables connecting the two devices. But I don't know how to check if this RTSI cable is registered in MAX or not. If not, how could I register it?
Thanks,
Zexi,
http://mypage.iu.edu/~zzhuang

Thank you for your information.
I just had trouble finding that item RTSI cable in the MAX. Later in the help, I found that I needed to use "creat new" to creat that item. Thanks very much.

• 6509 - 720 Supervisor Module Failure after Password Recovery

Hi,
I attempted to perform a password recovery on a 6509 with dual WS-SUP720-3B modules running 12.2(33)SXI2A.
After changing the configuration register to 0x2142 and booting, I am getting a major error on the supervisor modules. I've changed the configuration register back to 0x2102 and am still getting the same error on both supervisor modules. I've also tried it with one module removed and one module installed.
I have about 30 seconds in where I can run commands before I get booted to rommon.
Any thoughts?

A Is there any different procedure to install line modules in supervisor slots?
>>No there are no special configuration you need to do when inserting a line card in slots that normally would be for supervisor.
B Switch is having previously removed linecard (i.e, fastethernet module)in running configuration. Will it create any system crash?
>>No, it will not cause the switch to crash, when you see the configuration of a line card even after it was removed is quite normal, it's cold module provisionsing, you would not want to keep putting in a configuration for any line card after just resetaing them do you?

I simply can't get into the module function. I'm using the latest build for linux on Suse Linux 10.0.

We are in the process of converting the fortran debug information
from stabs to dwarf, which is required for Linux support. But
the conversion is not quite complete yet. The next version of
Sun Studio Express (in a month or two) should have much better
module support in dbx.

• Very basic modules questions (ath_pci, etc)

Hello! (I'm sorry, I posted this one in another forum first, thinking I was posting it in this one  )
I have a very simple question:
Where can I find modules (e.g., ah_pci for my Atheros mini PCI wireless card), and where and how do I install them?
For example, when I do:
modprobe ath_pci, I get a message saying something like:
can't find ath_pci module;
although I've seen a directory with this name on my system (IIRC, under /sys/drivers???).
Other example:
I have a 855GM Intelchipset. How do I find the module for it and how do I install it?
Thanks a lot.

Thanks for the reply, and for deleting the other thread.
I looked for /lin/modules, and I don't have a /lin directory... Is it normal?
Or maybe you meant /bin/modules...? Anyway, I looked for this too and there is no /modules directory under /bin.
I found some modules under /sys/module. There is one named ide_cd that I put in the MODULES array of rc.conf (just for a test, I don't know why it is for...), but I get a message at bootup:
FATAL: module ide_cd not found
Is this normal too? Or it has to be compiled with the kernel to work. And BTW, if I compile the kernel (I don't think I'm at this point in Linux yet!), do I loose my installation or if everything stays in place in my system?
Thanks a lot!
• Bus master with MXI-2 stops Windows XP clock

We are experiencing an issue with our MXI-2 modules in our VXI test systems. We recently implemented a module that has bus master capabilities. Up until now, all of our modules have been slaves. We have noticed that when our module requests the bus, we get a bus grant from the MXI-2 slot 0 controller and we can perform our register reads and writes to our other slave modules, we release the bus and everything looks good. However, we have noticed that our PC system real-time clock is losing time when we do this. It appears as long as we request the bus, the OS stops servicing real-time clock interrupts. In fact, if we request the bus for more than about 5 seconds, our PCs will reboot which is really strange. We are running Windows XP for an operating system. Has anyone else run in to this issue before? Any help/advice you could lend us would be appreciated.

I am going to jump in here.
>Thanks for clarify, do your programmers
have the “Date and Time Properties” window open to do this? When the
clock is no longer updating, is the rest of windows >responsive? Can you
have other programs running in the background?
Yes we can have the "Date and Time Properties" window open but it
really does not matter, the entire windows box is frozen, nothing works,
not even the mouse.  Later on, the windows box will come back to life
as if nothing has happened -- except the clock will be wrong, compared
to the clock on the wall.
>To get some more information about your system: What all
hardware are you using? Specifically, what is this module with bus
master capabilities?
Various off the shelf PC's (Mostly Dell's)  Windows XP, automatic updates.  The VXI module with the bus master capabilities is an
in house design.
>What
version of NI >VXI and NI VISA are you using?
We think we have the very latest drivers, but that does not really
matter as we have seen this problem occur no matter what the driver
versions.  The latest drivers we have installed on the test machine are VXI 360 and (NIVXI360.EXE) and Visa 4.6
(visa460full.exe).
Problem occures on _ALL_ driver versions, both the MXI-2 and also the new MXI (PCI-Express version)
>And just so there is no confusion in the lingo,
specifically what “bus
master capabilities” does this device have?
Please explain.
     >Also, can you
>elaborate on
what you mean by “bus grant”.
VXI bus grant signal.  (given after the module requests the VXI bus)
>Additionally
please describe how you have you VXI system Architected. A host computer
running XP, MXI-2 connection to a VXI chassis with assorted modules is
>pretty basic, please elaborate how your system differs, a picture may be
helpful. Did you change the “hardware configuration” in MAX on your
controller?
No nothing has been changed.  Everything should be at default values -- do we need to change them ?
>Also, please elaborate on your
Application environment and what function calls you are using to
accomplish this. Posting your code would be beneficial here as well.  Code is pretty simple, will post again if necessary.
Ok, I am going to speculate here, but perhaps the NI VXI drivers have interrupts disabled or the MXI hardware is causing an interrupt storm ? -- not sure how else to freeze the processor on the PC side of the MXI interface.
The problem (maybe?) can be boiled down to the following:
      1) A board in the VXI chassis starts to do bus mastering
      2) Software running on the PC with the MXI interface deceides to call a "viIn" function in the NI visa library (and the VXI bus is busy)
      3) The PC becomes "frozen" until the bus mastering is over (sometimes it spontaneously re-boots)
      4) The PC comes back to life, but was "frozen in time" so the clock is wrong compared with the wall clock, sometimes up to
10 minutes out of 20 and also lost the ability to do other useful work while it was frozen.
Thanks

Does NAM 2304 appliance has any expansion modules? I am out of interfaces and need new interfaces to be able to analyze different traffic.

Hi,
did you check if the Expansion Module 7916 is defined in Cisco Unified Communications Manager.
Also check if the Expansion Module 7916 is configured as a 24-line module instead of a 12-line module.
Refer the below link for more detail.

• ADSL2+ on Long Line

Recently received an email from BT saying that they will be upgrading the line this week. The SWCNE exchange was upgraded to ADSL2+ around the 31st March. Some people in the village received this email a month ago and was upgraded then, however not sure if there will be any benefits.
Also we were getting a broadband download speed of around 0.2 - 0.8mbps around a month ago till BT found a problem on our line. After many line profile resets and a new HH3 we are now achieving a download speed of around 0.7-1.1 mbps. This was done about 3 weeks ago, the cause of the problem was due to problems with the BT Retail servers, work on the exchange and due to the line.
HomeHub current Stats:

The noise margin is better compared to the 12 db we were getting about a month ago.
currenly plugged into the BT Openreach ADSL v.1 main telephone socket.
After the exchange upgrade will I benefit from ADSL2+?
Cheers

I'm no expert, so please correct me if I'm wrong

The SWCNE Exchange was upgrading everyone who had not been moved to the adsl2/2+ service today.
After the upgrade the HH3 reconected to the internet but on the same G.992.1 Annex A line modulation. The noise margin has also gone up from 4.5 db to 8.9 db which has resulted in the sync speed to be reduced. However the line attenuation has decreased from 68.2 to 66.6
Here are the Home Hub stats.
Download speeds
I was achieving a download speed of around 1.1mb with an IP profile of 1.25mb
And now achieving a download speed of around 0.96mb with an IP profile of 1.12mb
Is there anyway of improving it as the upgrade haven't managed to improve it?
Cheers,
James

• ACE Module vs ACE Appliance

Hello,
What is the difference between ACE Module and ACE Appliance? why the ACE Module is better? or ACE Appliance, what is the advantage between Module and Appliance.
anyone can explain me?
Best Regards

In the past Cisco has been shipping two line of Loadbalancing products
First line ( modules dedicated for 6500/7600 chassis ) includes CSM & CSM-S & SSLSM (for ssl offloading)
The other line comprises of appliance based CSS series products.
ACE module is a next generation module replacing CSM modules that fits into 6500/7600 chassis.
It gives you upto 16Gbps throughput (versus CSM's 4Gbps throughput).
ACE appliance is a next gen replacement of CSS line of appliance based products.
CSS appliances were used to come in different Hardware models with varied
performance capacities. ACE appliance is a single hardware with various licenses
used to scale the performance/features.Ace appliance supports upto 4Gbps of throughput.
Previously CSS & CSM code terminologies & command set was different. For example a real server
was termed as "service" in CSS & was called "real" in CSM . Similarly "probe" in CSM was "keepalive"
in CSS.
With ACE line of products you get the same terminologies & command sets for both
modules & Appliances.
ACE Appliance & ACE modules are functionality vise coming closer with every new release but
still there are some differences.
For example following ACE appliance features are not available in ACE module:
Appl optimization (flash forward, Delta Encoding)
Embedded Device manager
Http compression
Which one is better than the other really depends on your requirement
From Performance perspective Module give you much higher performance then Appliance.
SO if performance is your criteria the ACE module is better than ACE appliance.(Some performance metrics at the end of the post).
If you are looking for Application optimization & HTTP compression along with Loadbalancing
then it can only be achieved with ACE appliance.
If you are not using 6500/7600 series chassis in your environment then you can only use ACE appliance
(unless you are open to buy module+chassis due to performance requirement).
Some performance metrics
Ace Appliance supports 1 Million concurrent connections where as Ace Module supports 4 Million.
Ace Appliance supports 120K L4 conn/sec where as Ace Module supports 380K L4 conn/sec.
Ace Appliance supports 40K L7 conn/sec where as Ace Module supports 133K L7 conn/sec.
Ace Appliance supports upto 4Gbps throughput where as Ace Module supports 16Gbps throughput .

• Crash inserting module

Hallo,
I've problems inserting objetcs (modules) in Acrobat.
If I insert a module in a PDF with Adobe Acrobat 7 Professional I haven't problems.
If I do the same thing with Adobe Acrobat X Professional the program hangs.
If I do the same thing with Adobe Acrobat 9 Professional the program hangs.
The problem isn't present with all PDFs, but only with files PDFs that are conversions of DWGs drawings.
The programs Adobe Acrobat used have all disposable updates installed.
Could you help me, please?
Thank you very much.
Yuri Ceroni

What kind of line card was being inserted in slot 6? Have you tried other slots? The crash file in the RP says it was reset by SP, so the important crashinfo file would be in the sup-bootflash: Try an see if you find any "dir sup-bootflash:"
Aug 5 17:46:11: %C6K_PLATFORM-2-PEER_RESET: RP is being reset by the SP
%Software-forced reload
To answer your question:
A Is there any different procedure to install line modules in supervisor slots?
>>No there are no special configuration you need to do when inserting a line card in slots that normally would be for supervisor.
B Switch is having previously removed linecard (i.e, fastethernet module)in running configuration. Will it create any system crash?
>>No, it will not cause the switch to crash, when you see the configuration of a line card even after it was removed is quite normal, it's cold module provisionsing, you would not want to keep putting in a configuration for any line card after just resetaing them do you?
