Bus master with MXI-2 stops Windows XP clock

We are experiencing an issue with our MXI-2 modules in our VXI test systems. We recently implemented a module that has bus master capabilities. Up until now, all of our modules have been slaves. We have noticed that when our module requests the bus, we get a bus grant from the MXI-2 slot 0 controller and we can perform our register reads and writes to our other slave modules, we release the bus and everything looks good. However, we have noticed that our PC system real-time clock is losing time when we do this. It appears as long as we request the bus, the OS stops servicing real-time clock interrupts. In fact, if we request the bus for more than about 5 seconds, our PCs will reboot which is really strange. We are running Windows XP for an operating system. Has anyone else run in to this issue before? Any help/advice you could lend us would be appreciated.

I am going to jump in here.
>Thanks for clarify, do your programmers
have the “Date and Time Properties” window open to do this? When the
clock is no longer updating, is the rest of windows >responsive? Can you
have other programs running in the background?
Yes we can have the "Date and Time Properties" window open but it
really does not matter, the entire windows box is frozen, nothing works,
not even the mouse.  Later on, the windows box will come back to life
as if nothing has happened -- except the clock will be wrong, compared
to the clock on the wall.
>To get some more information about your system: What all
hardware are you using? Specifically, what is this module with bus
master capabilities?
Various off the shelf PC's (Mostly Dell's)  Windows XP, automatic updates.  The VXI module with the bus master capabilities is an
in house design.
>What
version of NI >VXI and NI VISA are you using?
We think we have the very latest drivers, but that does not really
matter as we have seen this problem occur no matter what the driver
versions.  The latest drivers we have installed on the test machine are VXI 360 and (NIVXI360.EXE) and Visa 4.6
(visa460full.exe).
Problem occures on _ALL_ driver versions, both the MXI-2 and also the new MXI (PCI-Express version)
>And just so there is no confusion in the lingo,
specifically what “bus
master capabilities” does this device have?
Please explain.
 >Also, can you
>elaborate on
what you mean by “bus grant”.
VXI bus grant signal.  (given after the module requests the VXI bus)
>Additionally
please describe how you have you VXI system Architected. A host computer
running XP, MXI-2 connection to a VXI chassis with assorted modules is
>pretty basic, please elaborate how your system differs, a picture may be
helpful. Did you change the “hardware configuration” in MAX on your
controller?
No nothing has been changed.  Everything should be at default values -- do we need to change them ?
>Also, please elaborate on your
Application environment and what function calls you are using to
accomplish this. Posting your code would be beneficial here as well.  Code is pretty simple, will post again if necessary.
Ok, I am going to speculate here, but perhaps the NI VXI drivers have interrupts disabled or the MXI hardware is causing an interrupt storm ? -- not sure how else to freeze the processor on the PC side of the MXI interface.
The problem (maybe?) can be boiled down to the following:
  1) A board in the VXI chassis starts to do bus mastering
  2) Software running on the PC with the MXI interface deceides to call a "viIn" function in the NI visa library (and the VXI bus is busy)
  3) The PC becomes "frozen" until the bus mastering is over (sometimes it spontaneously re-boots)
  4) The PC comes back to life, but was "frozen in time" so the clock is wrong compared with the wall clock, sometimes up to
10 minutes out of 20 and also lost the ability to do other useful work while it was frozen.
Thanks

    Hi
I read you other threads and it seems you have a Satellite Pro A60 notebook.
What can I say you have installed the OS manually and in my opinion a simply driver is missing
Did you try to install the infrared driver from the Toshiba European driver page?
    Possibly this is a key
Anyway, before you start the OS manual installation you should read the Installation Instructions. There you will find whole drivers which must be installed and the right installation order.
Please check this document and follow the guide lines

  • Firewire causes Fatal/Stop Windows error with ipod/dock connector

    Hello,
Anyone have any ideas on this one? It's an older Ipod so I'm sure there's some kind of fix for this by now... and I see alot of issues with this on the net in general (but no fixes....wait, now I'm worried...).
    Windows XP, sp2
    New PC, screaming RAM
USB 2.0 works fine, can update 3g Ipod (20GB with dock connector) just fine (and doesn't charge the ipod which is normal for 3g/2.0 USB connections).
When Firewire is connected, charges Ipod just fine until Itunes starts up and tries to access the Ipod, in which case Windows gets blasted out of existance with a fatal stop error.
Is this a bus command issue? Driver issue? Everything works just fine with everything else. I'd like to use the firewire to keep the thing charging while I synch as the USB port runs the battery down QUICK!

    hiya!

what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)

if you're just seeing a flash of a blue screen, we can use this technique to slow it down a bit:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

    Thanks,

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

how do i get iPhoto to stop bothering me with Mobile Me Migration windows when everything's already on my hard drive?

    Click "More Info", not "o.k.".
Then open the iPhoto Preferences "Accounts" tab and remove the "Mobile  Me" account, if it is still there.
    Quit iPhoto.
Check, if "Mobile Me" is still enabled in the System Preferences > Mobile Me panel (if you still have this panel). if yes, sign out.
    Log off and on again.
Test, if iPhoto still is bugging you to transfer your Mobile Me content. If yes, you need to delete your iPhoto Preferences from your User Library.
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist
    And also remove the file
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto/mmsunset.plist
from the Caches in the User Library - this file contain the end date of Mobile me.

  • Solaris 10 x86 - Disabling Bus Master Enable(vgatext)

I am looking for a way to prevent the vgatext driver from setting the Bus Master enable bit for devices claimed by this driver. I can create config file /kernel/drv/vgatext.conf that contains command-preserve=4; This will turn off the setting of this for each VGA card that is not used as the console however the card that does get used as the console is still having the Bus Master Enable bit set by this driver.

I'm getting the same problem trying to install
Solaris 10 in VMware from DVD.
It brings up the Solaris Primary Boot Subsystem, so
it appears to be reading fine, but the only thing
that happens is I get the Cannot find boot.bin
error.Hmm, the "Cannot find boot.bin." message comes from the
CD/DVD's boot code, which is contained in the first 16 sectors
    of the media.
The boot.bin file is supposed to be read from the Solaris UFS
slice, which starts at 512 byte block #5151360 (or 2048 byte
dvd sector #1287840). This a byte offset of ~2.6 GBytes.
Maybe an issue with your system's bios not being able to read
DVD media > 2GB, during DVD boot?
Or a problem with burning the DVD media? Maybe some
"smart" PC DVD burning software has decided only to record
the 2.6 GB ISO filesystem, and the 100 MB Solaris UFS
filesystem that follows the ISO filesystem is missing on the DVD?
Or a 2GB filesize issue while burning the DVD?
Do you have a pc / windows utility that can print some information
about the S10 DVD media, especially the size of that DVD?
    Maybe your CD/DVD recording software?
The original S10 GA x86 DVD image has a size of 2732195840
bytes, or 1334080 2K DVD blocks.

  • Do I need a PCI slot that is a bus master to use DMA transfers?

I want to install 3 PCI-6534, 1 PCI-6602, 1 PCI-6115 S board in a Industrial PC with a single board computer. Do all the PCI slots need to support "bus mastering" to us the DMA of all the boards?

    Hi Chris,
Yes all the PCI slots must support bus mastering. That is the only way for our cards to take control and transfer data via DMA. Most PCs (including industrial PCs with PCI-to-PCI bridges) support bus mastering on all slots. If bus mastering happens to be disabled, here are some steps to change that in the bios:
    1. Reboot your computer. Watch for the message during reboot that instructs you on how to enter the BIOS/Setup. Some systems have these messages disabled, so you may need to check your computer's user manual for the keys to hit. Most computers use a function key (e.g., F1, F2, or F10), but it depends on the system.
    2. Once you enter the BIOS/Setup, look for an menu or option that will allow you to view settings for the PCI Bus. Typi
cal menus will have names like "Advanced" or "Computer Setup". Some systems do not give you access to the settings for the PCI Bus, so if you do not see anything, check with your computer manufacturer for assistance.
    3. Look for an option to "Enable Bus Mastering" and select it.
    4. Save your setting and exit.

  • Master Collection NFR serial stopped working

    Hello,
My official and legit Master Collection 6 NFR serial stopped working few day ago and my software is back in trial mode.

You need to contact Adobe Support either by chat or via phone when you have serial number and activation issues, so you might need to continue trying to make contact.

  • Can I stop Windows 7 from warning about security on every linked PDF?

I am working on a project for which I have created one central document (an index) and 120 linked documents. Each document, on every page, has links to the next alphabetical document and back to the central index. This project will be distributed on disc to people with unknown computer platforms.
I am a Mac user, and this works well on my iMac using Adobe Reader. It also works on my ancient Windows XP machine. A tech friend has looked the project over, and he says that on Windows 7 (used by more than half of computer users), every time a document links to a new document, Windows 7 throws up a warning about PDF security hazards. With a large number of documents to open, this could be tiresome.
Is there a way to stop Windows 7 from warning about security on every linked PDF?
This tech person recommends joining all the PDFs into one file (around 50 MB by his estimate), which would require relinking every current link.
Acrobat offers to do the same with its Portfolio, but I'm not fond of the graphic styles offered, and I worry that one large file might be a challenge for older machines.
    Any suggestions?

Can you get a screen shot of this error message or at least the exact wording? I suspect the error message is being displayed by Reader/Acrobat and not Windows.

I've got the same problem. Adobe support are hopeless since

  • Users Logged in with Temp Profile on Windows 7

Last year, my company started to experience a strange correlation with the number of Windows 7 computers deployed and the number Help Desk calls regarding Temp Profile Logins. I did open a ticket with Microsoft Support, but had to prematurely put it on hold
    due to other projects.
From my work with Microsoft, we performed ETL logging, documented Handle Output, ran Procmon, and collected MSDT data. While not always successfully documented, Microsoft started to point out the possibility a process in the background was timing out. When
timed out, users became logged in as a TEMP user, thus limiting access to network drives and other domain resources.
The company I work for is part of a larger enterprise and other divisions do not experience this issue. This is solely my companies issue and only came to the forefront after we performed a large migration to Windows 7.
Other forums have provided me and my team with the means of fixing the TEMP profile login, after it occurs. We go into REGEDIT and modify the ProfileList and edit the necessary .BAK key. Either way, this corrects the issue, but does not prevent it from occurring
    again.
I guess my questions is; where can I look to trouble shoot this better? I can't rely on Microsoft analyzing my records and trying to deduce what is occurring. I want to get more information and find a resolution. Thank you all in advance.

No, we do not use roaming profiles in our environment. Local user profiles are used for every computer, regardless of purpose/role in the organization. Good question, though. Thank you.
    Hi,
I would like you to confirm following question with me:
    1. are your computers in a domain?
    2. What do you mean about the local user profile, the personal user? If it's a domain environment, does this issue happen on domain user account?
    3. How did you migrate your user profiles during migrating to Windows 7?
Considering if the local user profile is corrupted, and the regedit fix cannot fix your issue completely.
Please create a new user account on the problematic computer and test for a while to see if the issue still persists.
If not, we may need to repair the corrupted user profiles.
If the issue still persists, considering the system issue.
Please help to collect the logon trace and post back for our research.
    1. Logon as an Administrator of the computer you want to trace (either a local Administrator or Domain Admin account that is a member of the local machine's Administrators group).

  • How do i stop window from closing down all the time

watching movie monitor keep going black seem every 5min. and closes have enter my password to start watching movie again. How do I stop that? I put in never in two places put it keep doing it.

This could be related to the screensaver settings.
Check your screensaver settings and ensure that it is either disabled or set to activate long enough to get through a movie without it activating.  The screensaver settings work independently of the power settings, so it may be worth checking both to ensure all fronts are covered.  I have seen this behavior with both.
In Windows 8, this can be done by going to Start (aka the start screen), searching for Screensaver, selecting Settings on the right, and then change your screensaver.

  • Problems installing QuickTime 7 with iTunes 6 for Windows XP

I am encountering problems with the latest version of QuickTime (version 7.0.3) together with iTunes 6.
Installation is fine except at the end when I receive an error message saying ’1628: Failed to complete installation’. It appears that both programmes have been installed and work but I am unable to uninstall them. Neither program appears in the Add/Remove programs list when they should be. If I select ‘Uninstall QuickTime’ from the Program list the uninstalation process starts but stops half way through.
I have tried downloading QuickTime standalone version but this is exactly the same. I removed the QuickTime folder, and all its contents, from C:\Program Files\QuickTime and installed the previous version (6.5.2) which installs and uninstalls fine.
I am at a loss as to why the latest version is causing problems.
Would appreciate any help or advice as to why this is happening?
