NI-FGEN to trig NI-DMM

Hi
I have to stimulate a circuit with a 200Hz square signal (NI-PXI5421 waveform generator), but only with 3 periods, after that I have to wait a little and then repeat it a couple of times. The task is to measure the response of the circuit with a NI-PXI4070 DMM, but I can’t figure out how to synchronies the two devices, so that I measure when the 3 pulse are applied. It seams as a standard operation but it is not working for me, is there anybody that has a suggestion to solve my problem??
Thanks

Hi Funding
This is indeed possible by using NI-TCLK. There is an example showing this but its using NI-SCOPE instead of NI-DMM. Using the Scope is more appropriate but as I said its possible to use the DMM's too. The example is shown here. This example is based on two examples installed with LabVIEW when NI-FGEN and NI-Scope was installed. You would have to find the NI-Scope example and see what changes that are implemented. You should find an appropriate example from NI-DMM and implement that in the above given example. I would recommend you look at the examples doing continuous acquisition either in the triggers or multi-point measurements folder.

  • Conection between Measuremet Automation Explorer and Labview (eng)

    hello to all
I built a test stand with three "card's" with the assistance of MAX (Measure & automation Explorer) virtual,
Now I want to make the following.
I want to write in Labview the name of some of cards. Of such form that soon Labview says to me. In where is this card and his data (information, chanel number, card number etc).
As I can make the inquiry, between Labview and max. It is possible using of Labview?.
Can I get these data with Labview without inquiry on MAX?
The goal of this program, it is to be able to identify the cards that are had installed, without having to use MAX.
can be solved to this problem using activex or Visa?. I believe that Visa requires of a hardware, but I am working with simulations ( I don't have a hardware).

Depending on what kind of "cards" you are using the ModInst vi's my do what you want.   They work with NI-SCOPE, NI-FGEN, NI-HSDIO, NI-DMM, NI-RFSG, and NI-SWITCH cards and will tell you the what of these devices you have installed, their name and attributes.  If your cards use different drives you will need another solution.

  • Multi trigger measurements with a keithley 2100

    Hi all,
I am using a Keithley 2100 DMM to measure voltages through an USB bus. I am using an agilent multiplexer to route different chanels to be measured by the 2100. A labview software control the two instruments.
If I use a labview  “read single” KE2100 function between each switch of the agilent the program works well. The problem is I would like my measurement to be done faster. So I am trying to store the measurements in the buffer and collect all the data at the end. It goes like this:
          Configure the trigger
(sample count=1 , trigger count X, trigger source: bus)
    2.       Initiate the trigger (VISA INIT)
    3.       Trig the measurement with “*TRG” X time in a for loop
    4.       Fetch the data
For some reason I cannot collect these data, I just get one or sometimes two measurements
Does anyone know what the problem is? Many thanks for your help !
PS: enclosed a simple labview version of what I would like to do

    Hello Melanie,
I discussed with them indeed and it seems it is not possible to trig from the bus in case you just have a USB bus and not a GPIB one. Therefore I will try  to trig the DMM measurement with the "channel closed output" from the MUX and see if it can work like that.

like to control of the start the function using the External Trigger, how i can do it ?

    tamar2010,
The VirtualBench Function Generator does not support generation triggering.  You can export a trigger with the Function Generator, but you you cannot import a trigger and start generation from it.  Please refer to page 6 of the spec doc for more information:

  • How to use "scanner advanced" signal with DMM 4060?

    Hi!
We're using SCXI-1128 switches with 1331 terminal blocks. The switches should communicate with the PCI DMM 4060 via the SH9MD cables.
Does someone know if there is a possibility to use the scanner advanced signal from the switch over these cables (for handshaking)? The documantation says the signal is only available on the front connector (1331) which does not make much sense in my eyes...
I'd be glad if someone could help me here.
    Best regards,
    Jan

When you are using the SH9MD to communicate from the 4060 to an 1128, you are using the cable for SCXI communication. You are connecting this cable to the back of the 1128 and the only signals it can carry are SCXI communication and the Measurement Complete (MC) from the DMM to the Switch. The 1128 cannot route his Scanner Advanced (SA) signal to the back where the SH9MD connects, and there are not any available PIN to carry it.
If you want to use handshaking with a PCI 4060 and a 1128, you will need to control the Switch using a different controller than your PCI 4060 (another 4060/4070/4021) connected to the back of the 1128 using the SH9MD cable. You will also need to get the "trigger cable" for your PCI 4060 (available page 298 in 2002 NI catalog). This cab
le splits the SH9MD into 2 BNCs; EXT TRIG IN and MC. These BNCs need to be connected to the SA screw terminal and to the EXTRIGIN screw terminal respectivelly on the 1331 terminal block.
The DMM will need to be set to external for both the Trigger/Sample trigger and the MC destination. The Switch would also have its SA destination and input trigger set to "front of module X".
A very good source of information in the "NI digital multimeter help" available on the Web. Check out the Triggering section under the Programming heading.
    Good luck.

  • DMM PXI 4070 synchronisation trigger généré par PXI6229 (Daq M)

    Bonjour,

  • How do i reset the password for cisco DMM 5.1 hardware machine

    Dear All,
I have a cisco DMM 5.1 with some players installed on it, I can login to the dmm 5.1 via web browser but I cannot login the hardware directly through the console, I dont have the password for the console access, Could any one please help me resetting the password for the cisco DMM 5.1 physica server keeping the data and the configuration on the server intact.?
               Please help!!

    Dear Fahad,
If you have lost your "admin" account password, it can be recovered using the "pwadmin" account as documented at the following link:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/video/digital_media_systems/5_x/5_4/dms/aai/administration/guide/pwadmin.html#wp1079466
If you have lost your "pwadmin" password as well, you'll need to open a TAC case and get a "DMS 5.1 pwadmin reset" ISO image via TAC. You can then boot the appliance with the provided CD to reset the "pwadmin" password, then login as "pwadmin" and reset the "admin" password from there.

  • How to set up a FTP and web server and integrate with DMM 5.2

    Hi All ...
I need to set up a external server only for content publishing to reduce the overhead of the DMM server .
can anyone guide me on how to set up the external server and intergrate it with the DMM 5.2
    Thanks

    semuthu,
    Notes from the Release Notes:
Compatibility Limitations with Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS)
DMPs that use firmware release 5.2 are compatible with only one version of Microsoft Internet Information Server.
That supported version is IIS 6.0 for Windows 2003 Enterprise. If you do not have the supported IIS version but
want your DMPs to retrieve assets from a webserver, we recommend that you use Apache instead of IIS.
I would suggest using Apache instead of IIS for the webserver service. IIS can be used as FTP if needed.
There are plenty of Documents on the Web about setting up Apache and FTP for servers.
    Using Apache with Microsoft Windows
    http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/platform/windows.html
Quick HOWTO : Ch20 : The Apache Web Server
    http://www.linuxhomenetworking.com/wiki/index.php/Quick_HOWTO_:_Ch20_:_The_Apache_Web_Server
Once the Webserver is setup and operational. You simply store your media content on the Webserver
and then have your DMS assets in the media library use an external URL address for its location.
If you want to use external server for other features in the DMM, you can can see how to configure
    here:

  • Uploading Files to DMP for local storage (Failover ) in DMM/DMP 5.2 is not working

    Dear All,
I face a problem in making failover on the DMP , I did the following:
1- make the design and save the presentation the needed to be failover.
2- from Advanced Tasks ---> File transfer to DMP or Server and select the presentation.
3- in the Adanced Task ---> Go to URL you will find an automated file genrated .
4- Go to Digtal Media Player and select the generated URL and select the DMP and press GO.
in DMM 5.1 after the above steps, the player was restart and after it back it displayed the uploaded presentation.
but now the system running with 5.2 and it is not working ,Can any one help me to make this in DMM/DMP 5.2?
    Thanks,
    Ahmed Ellboudy.

    Ahmed,
Let's not worry about failover at this time.
Let's just attempt to get the LOCAL presentation to play.
Your steps appear to be correct for transferring the
    presentation to the DMP.
    * From the DMM-DSM, Select the action to play the presentation
      on the DMP in Question
Does the Presentation play on the DMP?
    then
    * go to the advanced tasks on the DMM-DSM and find the
GO TO URL for the presentation that you created.
      Copy URL to your clipboard.
    * Now go to the DMP-DM of the DMP where you transferred the
presentation.   Go to the Display Actions-->URL to be displayed
and Paste the GO TO URL here then press the GO button
Does the Presentation play on the DMP?
Let me know what you see....

  • How do I use VISA to perform GET (Group Execute Trigger) to three DMMs?

    Hi,
My systems have about 4 GPIB instruments connecting to my computer via Agilent GPIB-USB Interface card.  I have to use VISA to communicate with the interface and instrument.  I wish I can use NI488,.2 but it does not seem to work with Agilent card.  In NI488.2, I could easily send a command such as X? (to read value from Agilent 3458A) to 3 DMMS at once using sendlist module.  However, I do not know how to do similar parallel poll in VISA.  Can anyone help?  There are three FLUKE8505A on the system.  My goal is to read the three measured values triggered  simultaneously on these three FLUKE DMMs.
    Sincerely yours,
    Rose

    Hi Rose,
The How Do I See My Agilent 82357A GPIB-USB Interface in MAX/LabVIEW? knowledgebase article explains how to use an Agilent USB-GPIB with NI-VISA. Using the NI-VISA driver will require you install the Agilent I/O Libraries 14.0 and uninstall the Agilent VISA driver.  Once you get your Agilent GPIB-USB device recognized in MAX, you should be able to control the instruments using LabVIEW.

  • How do I use LabVIEW to control and vary the voltage on my Agilent Power Supply and simultaneously record temp from 1 DMM and voltage from another DMM?

I am using an Agilent Power Supply  to apply a voltage to a
thermistor to heat an Al chassis.  I want to use LabVIEW to tell
the power supply to apply 5V for 10 minutes, then step to 7V for 10
minutes, etc.  I am completely new to LabVIEW, so any help would be greatly appreciated!
In addition to that, I want to place a type J thermocouple onto the Al
surface and use a Keithley 2000 DMM to monitor the temperature (it has
a built in conversion from V to Temp for type J).  I will also be
using another Kelthley 2000 DMM to record the output voltage of a new
uncalibrated thermocouple.  I would like to collect the output
voltage for this uncalibrated thermocouple and the temperature reading
from the type J simultaneously.  How should I go about doing this
in LabVIEW?  I will be using version 6.1.  The power supply
and DMMs will be connected to a PC using GPIB.
Again any suggestions would be greatly appreciated- I have no idea
where to begin on such a project.  I have taught myself how to
make a basic VI- converting temp in oC to oF, but  that is as far
    as my knowledge goes.

What you want to do should be fairly straightward and a good way to learn labview.
First off, if you haven't already, I would download the drivers for the Keithley and Agilent instruments.  I found the keithley drivers at the link below.  You will need to find the labview drivers for the Agilent PS at their website.  Drivers are the VI's you will use in your program to control the insturments.
    http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/niid_web_display.download_page?p_id_guid=E3B19B3E90B0659CE034080020E74861
If you open Labview and go to the help menu and click on Labview bookshelf there is alot of information on getting you started coding labview.   This should get you started, if you have anymore questions just ask in this same thread and I am sure you will get all the help you need.

  • How do I read a singal on row 1 with my DMM connected to the HVBP

I have placed a signal on c1 of my SCXI 1129 and connected it to r1. Then I connected r1 to com1 and com1 to ab1. At this point how do I read that voltage using my DMM that is connected to the backplane. I was able to do it by using c0, r0, com0, ab0 and I recieved the proper measurement. Also, i should not that I have done all my testing using the front softpanels.

I was interested in connecting the 4 DMM leads to R0 thru R3 of a 4x64 matrix. It is not possible with the standard cable. The response accurately described the cable. Documentation that points this out seems to be lacking.

  • How do I read data from a DMM or DC Power Supply at a specified rate?

I have a PXI system with 4071 DMMs and 4110 DC Power Supplies. I want to be able to measure the power consumption of my DUT as it performs various operations. This is what my process flow looks like:
    1. Configure DMM and Power Supply
    2. Wait for DUT to go into a certain mode
    3. Start  Acquiring data from DMM and PS.
    4. Wait for DUT to get out of this mode
    5. Stop Acquiring data from DMM and PS.
Since the duration of step #4 is uncertain, I cannot tell the units to collect a predetermined number of samples and give it back to me. Instead I have to take readings as long as it's required.
I'm attaching screenshots of my setup and read process. The reading is done inside a timed loop which is running at 1kHz.
The problem is that using niDMM Read Multi-Point or niDCPower Measure Multiple takes 5-9ms before I get a reading, so I'm not really getting 1ms resolution in my data. I'm sure there are other folks who have had the need to read data from these devices with better time-resolution, so if anyone can point me in the correct direction, it would be great. I'm pretty sure I'm not doing the correct thing here.

What is really confusing to me is why you are even using the multi-point function when you set the sample count to 1. If you want multiple points, request multiple samples and let the DMM acquire them at a rate you specify. If you want a single sample, use the normal Read. You also need to pay attention to how fast the DMM can acquire. If you want the fastest sample rates, you might be a lot better off with a DAQ board.

Flash updates don't exactly  come every month or even 2 months, and this issue needs some type of current fix because there are many ppl also having this issue, which basically makes Flash Pro useless, what good is an animation program if you cannot draw in it on a tablet that literally SPECIALIZES in pen/drawing usage.
