NI motion servo jerk/jump on enable
we're having an issue with our servo motion control
PCI-7354 + UMI
Labview RT 8.6
nimotion 73xx controller support 7.7.0
we've got a mechanical safety switch that kills power to our servo amps (via the inhibit line)
if we engage the safety switch while the motor is moving the motor stops ok thou when we reenagage it the motor "jumps" sometimes by hundreds of counts
s/w process:
as soon as the safety switch is detected we issue a kill stop command to both motors then disable the limit switches (as the motor carriage can fall onto the reverse switch)
when a reset safety is requested the limit switches are reenabled, the 2 axis are reenabled (configure inhibit i/o - triggers the amp inhibit line) then a kill stop and halt stop are called to reenable the ni motion axis
any thoughts as to why the motor would jump on re-enable?
Hi,
I don't know if you have solved this yet - so here are my thoughts:
We used to use the Baldor NextMove ISA cards in one of our systems. We found that if the motion was disabled (in our case by opening the instrument's door), and the axis was subsequently moved (in your case it drops under gravity), upon re-enabling the controller, the controller would try to close the position loop to return the axis to the position it was at, when the system was disabled. It essentially did this by applying maximum DAC volts to the drive (dumb drive - voltage to current converter). On a long axis (approximately 1m, in our case), this would make you jump!!!!
Could it be a similar phenomonen in your case?

Laurence

How to safely turn off the computer while the motion servo is still enabled?
When we use PCI-7344 and set it for serve closed control, I have found a very serious problem
in using the control card in this mode.
As the card is able to control motors only with the computer at power on status, but if we are very
carelessly to shut down the computer and without the notice to turn off motor driver power first
we would always get serious sudden moves of the motors, and might cause damages to the system. The same situation also applies to when control the motors under open/closed loop stepper mode.
How should I do to prevent the above situation?
(note: in my system, we have hook up relays and timers if we could set DIO bits before shut down
the computer. But
still, there are a certain occassions that the operator would still forget to set the DIO bits
and turn off the computer directly)The Inhibit output pin of the motion controller (also called drive enable) is the best way to achieve this. It is basically a signal that most power drives take in as an active low input so that when the powergoes out of the computer, the line goes low and immediately kills the axis so that no servo ouptut command affects the motor.

Jerking & Jumping in REVERSE with CS5 ??
I'm getting rather frustrated with what's happening with PP-CS5 on two different video productions I'm putting together right now.
I have tried to reverse four different tracking-move scenes, and all they do while running in reverse is jerk, stall, pause, skip, and spasm along. They will NOT run smooth as they do when moving forward.
Am I doing something wrong, or need to adjust a different setting. I've already looked at the manual and find nothing apparent to the problem.
The video is HD from a Nikon D7000, and I've reduced the playback quality to as low as 1/4 as it makes no difference.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. The video is HD from a Nikon D7000, and I've reduced the playback quality to as low as 1/4 as it makes no difference.
Yep, that's just the way this kind of material works in reverse. You're not dealing with whole, discrete frames when you're editing HDSLR footage, which is compressed using H.264. The footage is compressed with frames that are predicted forward, but not backward. When you play forward in a Premiere Pro sequence, PPro is able to create the "imaginary" frames on the fly, but this doesn't work so well in reverse. What you're seeing are whole I-frames, which are at relatively large intervals, so you get a stuttery playback.
There is simply no way around this; it's the nature of the beast. It has nothing to do with the software or even your computer--it's just the way it is with temporally-compressed footage like that from a D7000. Your only workaround would be to transcode to an I-frame only format... or don't play in reverse -
Dear all,
I'd like to run the proprietary windows software PCM001Z on our PXI system. The software should communicate via one port of the PXI8433/2 RS485 card in two-wire-mode with a Toshiba frequency converter.
Unfortunately it seems as if the software clears the scratch register of the PXI8433 uart, what leads to disabling two wire mode.
My Questions:
* Is there a way to enable 2-wire-auto mode of the PXI8833/2 permanetly?
* What is the use of the 5 jumpers marked "W1" on the PXI8833/2 board? Could these jumpers be used for configurating the PXI8433/2 card?
Thanks a lot in advance,
cheerio,
Volker.
Solved!
Go to Solution.Dear all,
meanwhile I managed to put port 1 of our PXI8433/2 card in 2-wire-auto mode w/o echo permanently by using a soldering iron ;-)
The following steps were necessary:
1. To disable echo I simply connected the receiver enable pin /RE (3) of the RS422 line driver MAX3086 (U7) with the
transmitter enable pin TE (4).
Note: The /RE pin has to be unsoldered from the pcb.
2. 2-Wire-Auto mode is enabled permanently by connecting the Transmitter Enable of the above mentioned RS422 line
drive to the TxRdy0 pin (21) of the OX16C954 UART (U11). Please note that the TE signal goes through the Digital
Insulator ADuM1400 (U1). Therefore pin 6 of U1 has to be unsoldered from the pcb and connected to pin 21 of U11.
For correct RS485-2-wire-mode the following windows settings for port 1 must be set:
[x] Use FIFO buffers
Transmit Buffer: Low (1) -> put ruler to the leftmost border
Transceiver Mode: 4 Wire -
How can I mass move symbols with their motion paths without creating new keyframes?
I want to move a lot of symbols all at once if they are off centered or just need to be moved around to see differenr styles across the document, but I can't seem to move a lot of the symbols at once, only one at a time slexting their motion paths. It's rather annoying when I have items coming in at different times and have to re line everything up one by one if I want to move things even over by 1 px. Every time I slecect all my symbols and try to move them it just creates a new keyframe that they follow. Is there any tool or certian way to select the symbols and/or thier motion paths and move them without creating new key frames?
Hi,
There's no direct way of moving all the symbols/ motion tweens begining at different frames altogether, but the following steps should help you do it -
1. Select a motion path on stage, goto Properties panel > Options menu (top left corner) and enable - Always show Motion Paths.
2. Enable - Edit Multiple Frames option in the Timeline.
3. Adjust the frame-markers in Timeline to show all your symbols, motion paths etc.
4. Now that you see all your symbols and motion paths together, Select-all and Move them together. Or, use Shift + click to selectively select the Motion paths/objects and move them.
Let me know if you have any doubts..

I'm using iDVD 6.0.4 and am having a problem with the menu system.
Everything is fine, and the project is about ready to burn, however whenever I go to add a still picture for the background of the two Chapters selection screens, the Motion Menus time jumps from 4:45/15:00 to over 15:00 by just adding one picture.
What is causing this, and how do I get it to stop!?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks...
MikeI had the same problem. Took ages to figure out the problem and the error message does not show up in the manual, though the 15 time limit for 4:3 is mentioned. Does this work better in iDVD08?

Motion in FCPX - click lag, hanging, tortuously slow rendering
Hello Colleagues,
I have 2 iMacs of different generations, both up-to-spec and up-to-date on OS, FCP, and Motion.
I am experiencing very poor performance when using Motion "generator" graphics: lag, hanging, slow renders, and sometimes even crashing.
I have verified folder permissions, verified fonts, eliminated all converted events/libraries from pre-10.1 - pretty much everything except uninstalling, trashing prefs, and reinstalling fresh.
Still, FCP seems to be FIGHTING ITSELF, with iStat showing that more than half of CPU effort is being used by "system" instead of "user" at any given moment (when Motion assets are present and enabled).
The performance is far poorer than it ever was on FCP7 with Motion 4, and it is far worse than FCP10.0.x with Motion 5 (one of my machines was previously used with FCP7, however, the newer one has been FCPX since its unboxing day in early 2013).
Does anyone have any suggestions for the next step in troubleshooting this problem?
Thanks,
Eric - CoralVisionYay it's Luis and Russ! Hello colleagues!
Luis: I tink I posted a link to one of the troublesome assets for you, but I limped through the completion of that project by keeping the inspector closed. I still suffered lots o click-lag, spinny balls, and, at the end, an overnight render, but I got through. This was on a 90minute show choir concert that had about 12x 8 second lower 3rds, and about 3 minutes of full screen titles, rolls, and credits. All of the FCP generator assets were made by me from scratch in Motion5. The current post relates to a similar problem, but on a different machine with different assets. The current complaint is from my slightly older iMac (lower power than the new one but still quite capable when using the former versions of this software), and the generators came from Motion projects which were originally created in Motion4. So unless there is something wrong with my practice in using FCPX generators, something in common across the 4 or 5 projects where I have experienced similar problems, I think that a corrupt template is an unlikely explanation.
Russ: I run my systems stock - that is to say that the only 3rd party plugins I have installed are the Canon EOS and XF plugins I use for ingesting media. I don't have any plugins related to MoGraph, editing, rendering, or memory management. These are custom generators that I am creating, chasing the "template" functionality I used to enjoy between Motion and FCP7. So yes, user generated custom generators - and I have had similar problems with several batches of varying complexity and varying origin.
For now I will just have to adapt, observe, and troubleshoot. I have a sneaky feeling that I am doing something wrong in the way I am setting up the motion projects for publication, but I will surely announce it loudly if I learn anything new.
Thanks for checking in, fellows!

Hi,
Im confounded to why this is happening and when it looks so much like a program error, it is sold on the shelves as a final product.
My frustration at CS4 is that the new motion paths are already on the object, identified by a dotted line which you can edit to change the direction of the motion. When I want an object to go from A to B and then on to C, trying to select the object and position it to B is impossible. I always seem to select a bezier point. After attempting to mvoe it to B and then C, zooming in to take a close look at the path its a mess, overlapping in many points and jsut a MESS.
Am i doing something wrong?
To get round the problem I've copied the object in it's location and made another layer and continued the object motion on to B or C.
I'm animating a mouse curser over my visuals and I've now got multiple layers of the cursor object because of this pathing issue.
Any advice would be gratefully received.
thanking youThe above advice is good. It sounds like you have created some kind of motion path, and you are wanting to further edit it. There are many ways to edit, and some will work out better than others. Editing a motion path differs greatly depending on what kind of path you have.
1) If you started with a path where you have pasted, say, a stroke as your path (you drew something with the pencil or pen, and pasted it onto your tween), you will be dealing with a lot of auto-generated keyframes -- especially if you used a pencil line instead of a pen line. If you drag your object around, where those keyframes are will affect the resulting path. What to do: Try to modify the path using the Pen tools, or start with a pen drawn path. This way you have fewer keyframes to accomodate for. If you have a pencil-drawn path, try removing keyframes and then adjust the path using beziers. Alternatively, paste the motion path as a raw path on a new layer, adjust it by bending, and then repaste it onto the tween.
When you ask Flash to auto-keyframe a pasted path, there's really no way around this. Flash has to create keyframes for you, and isn't able to know how you may want to further edit it. So the above ways are necessary, and unfortunately it's a bit of work whatever way you go.
2) You may have a path that you have curved, but you want a linear path "down the road" (later on the tween). In this case, the motion tween is inserting curve property keyframes, because you have curved the path. To make the line straight, you need to convert the points to linear points. You can do this on the path or in the motion editor using the Convert Anchor point tool. Or, you can go in the motion editor, right-click the keyframes and choose "Corner point" or Linear Left/right as needed.
3) You applied an ease and you're dragging the instance on the Stage. This can be tricky. What you've asked Flash to do when applying an ease is for motion math to take over an animate the position of the instance in relation to values (the original path). The instance is controlled by the ease, and Flash accomodates each time you move it. Oftentimes you can't really tell what's going to happen, especially on the Stage (Flash is doing what's mathematically correct and necessary, but it might not be what you actually want!). In this case you probably want to turn off the ease, create your motion path, and then re-enable the ease and see how that affects the path. Adjusting your work in the motion editor might be easier, as you can see the dotted eased values in the graph, which tell you what's actually going to happen to the motion (the "real" value post-ease).
4) You used the transform panel or Free transform tool on the motion path, which gave wacky results and then you're moving the instance and things are getting worse. This is one area where motion paths can have less desirable results, as it's using a traditional tool not really designed for the new feature on a new feature. My recommendation is to avoid the transform panel, and use the Free Transform tool instead. In a nutshell, the Transform panel traditionally deals with shapes, and the motion path is not a traditional shape - so there are a lot of calculations swapping back and forth behind the scenes to try and give you what you want. Things can get wacky here, so if you already have something very complex (such as a pasted path with tons of keyframes), your transformations may not be what you actually wanted. Free Transform is better, or even better, manually adjust the beziers. Another alternative is to, again, copy the motion path as a static raw path, transform it and make your adjustments, and repaste it onto your tween.
Let me know if you need additional help, or are running into something else entirely.
Thanks,
Jen. -
I finally managed to navigate in DVD SP. Made my first Menu linked to a 2nd (sub menu). There I have the buttons linked to my videos. In Style I enable Motion and the asset is linked to the video. All buttons play fine.
But then, of a sudden, none of the buttons play anymore, they all show only 1 frame. The start frame is set. Nothing plays. I disable the Motion, move the start frame enable motion again, all I get is a freeze frame.
I wonder, what function disables the motion?
Everything else works fine!
Doriansorry guys, was mistaken... I moved it over to DVD SP

Problem with motion tweening in Flash CS4
Hi !
I tried to refresh my little flash knowledge -- but I stumbled upon a problem with the new Flash CS4!
When I try to make different blur or alpha effect on one keyframe I got after making the motion tween -- Flash adjust the other keyframe as well (got the same reaction on both keyframes as if it was the same instance of movie clip -- and not as in old flash; the keyframes created separated or independent instances)
The only thing working for me is when I move the movie clip out of the stage on the first keyframe -- and it correctly move its position.
What's wrong?
Kind Regards
Maria OlsenHello Maria,
You sort of answered your own question:)
"got the same reaction on both keyframes as if it was the same instance of movie clip"
That is exactly right and is the proper way of looking at new motion tweens. It is one instance of the movieclip for the duration of the tween. It takes awhile to get used to this.
New motion tweens allow you to set up a a very simple tween initially without keyframing ending values / position. Once you start making changes after the tween is set, you are going to have to get familiar with adding "property keyframes". Property keyframes are displayed with those little diamond icons in the timeline. Poperty keyframes allow you to "lock in" certain specific properties at key points in your animation without affecting other properties. With the old classic keyframes, a keyframe placed mid-tween would create a whole new instance of a symbol with all properties (rotation, scale, alpha etc) set in stone for that point in time. The benefit was that you could easily have all properties tween TO and FROM that keyframe if that's what you wanted. Now you can make adjustments to a symbol mid-tween and only specifically adjust a single property. So you can adjust the alpha of an object mid-tween without interrupting say a rotation that you wanted to happen all the way through.
If you simply want an object to move left to right and then you decide it should fade in
CLASSIC TWEEN
-place symbol on frame 1
-keyframe frame 10
-in frame 10 move the symbol to the right
-add classice tween
Ok, that works, now add alpha fade in
-go back to frame 1 and set alpha to 0
-classice tween automatically adjusts alpha from 0 in frame 1 to 100 in frame 10.
-done
MOTION TWEEN
-place symbol on stage
-create motion tween
-playhead jumps to last frame
-move symbol to the right (no need to f6 / keyframe)
Flash automatically adds something called a "position" keyframe (notice the little black diamond)
Ok, that works, now add alpha fade in
-go to frame 1 and set alpha to 0
-test movie
-oops - wrong. As you noted the alpha will stay at 0 throughout the whole tween.
-you need to additionally go to the last frame and set the alpha back to 100
-this will automtically create a "color" property keyframe on the last frame
When just doing this now I noticed something odd as well
As soon as I do the position change and move the symbol to the right, if I try to add the "color keyframe" on the last frame of the tween, I am not allowed to do so. "color" and "filter" are greyed out. I would prefer to lock the alpha at 100 in the last frame while the playhead is in position before setting it down to 0 in frame 1. Oh well.
Seems you are forced to
-go back to the beginning of the tween
-adjust the alpha
-then go to the end and manually bring the alpha back up.
hmm maybe i'm missing something too:)
the best way to do this would be to have the foresight ahead of time to do the alpha
-place the symbol
-alpha 0
-add motion tween
-in last frame move the symbol set alpha to 100 (alpha and position keyframes are automatically set)
So if you do it right the first time, its easy. If not, well.
Keep in mind an object will maintain the properties it has set in frame 1 unless a subsequent property keyframe enforces some adjustment.
If you have have an object that is moving from point a to b to c to d:
If you alter the alpha at point b, the alpha will tween from point a to b, but will maintain the new alpha to c, to d.
If you scale the clip by 200% at point, its scale will tween from point a all the way to point d, NOT just from c to d
To scale from point c to d only, set a "scale" property keyframe at point c (this will lock the objects scale at 100) THEN scale to 200% at point d
It takes a good deal of practice. I found the hard way that you just can't "wing" it. It isn't very intuitive coming from a classic tween approach.
These articles really helped me:
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/motion_migration_guide.html
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/learning_guide/animation/
Take note of the tips on "cntr-clicking" frames and "shift-dragging". You have to really get used to a few keyboard modifiers when editing the timeline.
Stick around the forums. A lot of good info comes through daily.

Created a motion piece to use as the backdrop for my menu. I want the music to play after the motion completes its action. I have checked the Still option, put the music in the appropriate place so that it will play with the motion piece but it stops when motion completes the animation. Is there something I have missed? Accroding to the procare folks, when you have selected music and placed it in the area for the menu, it should play for the duration of the song and then loop with no connection to the motion piece. This is the last aspect of the clients DVD that I working in which I am stumped. Help
Myles:
As David saud, there is no way to loop Music and Auido independently. You motion menu loop ends when your motion backgrouns ends . . . and loop.
You must work both music and video togheter i.e. in FCP to get the same lenght&sync and take care of the Menu loop point, because you motion menu will jump to that time, and your audio could again get "weird" playback.
Hope it helps!

When you open a Motion Control compatible program, like PowerPoint, or the Windows Photo app, Harmony should ask you whether you want to enable Motion Control. After you enable it, the camera turns on each time you open the app.
I'm not able to find a list of Motion Control compatible programs.
It's of limitied utility, so I leave it disabled.
Hope this helps!

MSI E350IA-E45 USB Not recognised after cold boot.
Any one else have the same issue? My asus (Bluetooth) BT211 is not recognised after cold boot.
I also found the front USB's losing power when PC turned off. Connected them up to 5VSB to fix the issue.
MSI tech has not been back to me if this is a fault design, My motherboard issue or bios issue? Which also means to charge via front USB not work when turned off.
And to top it off I cannot find an answer to whether the Wake on Bluetooth USB is supposed to work?Quote from: mickas on 12-August-11, 20:09:58

How did you connect up the USB ports to 5VSB?
I have a similar issue with a newer MSI board and my USB mouse; I'd have to remove and re-insert the USB connection to the mouse after each cold boot in order for it to be recognized. I did a kludge fix by looping the mouse through a powered USB hub that supplies power to connected devices even when the PC is off.
This MSI board doesn't have a hardware jumper to enable 5VSB to the USB ports, unlike other motherboards. Also, none of the "green" or wakeup settings in the BIOS would cause the USB ports to have power when the PC is off.
So, how do you connect 5VSB to the USB ports? I've heard that crossing the regular 5V rail with 5VSB is a no-no, so I can't imagine how you did it. -
Making iMovie copy from corrupted iMove that was sent to Quicktime
Edited iMovie played in jerks, jumps, skips and freezes, so I exported it to Quicktime. Now it runs smooth in Quicktime Pro, but the images are terrible, like I am seeing mostly pixels. Sound was okay.
I want to make a DVD of it for DVD distribution, but, first, I need to get the images right, clean up a couple of rough spots, and find a way to export to iDVD to make the DVD copies. This is a complex film with many overlays and tweaks.Edited iMovie played in jerks, jumps, skips and
