Nikon D600 NEF Support

Can PSE 9.0.3 be updated to read Nikon D600 NEF files?

In a word, no. You have two alternatives:
(1) Upgrade to PSE 11. (2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your NEF files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your original NEF’s as backups and for use in Nikon software)
Windows download click here DNG Converter 7.2
Mac download click here DNG Converter 7.2
You can convert a whole folder of NEF images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Nikon D600 NEF/RAW files/DNG 8.4 still cannot read

Hi all, I just tried installing several versions of the DNG plug in for CS6 and it still cannot read the Nikon D600 NEF/RAW files on a 2014 MacBook Pro.  Any suggestions?  I have searched previous questions, but cannot find one on this very topic.  Cheers, Paul.

What version of Photoshop do you have installed. If you have CS6 make sure you use CS6 menu Help>Updates. To make sure you have the latest updates.  If you have CS6 preternatural you should see version 13.0.6 when you use menu Help>About Photoshop if you hace a Creative cloud subscription you should see version 13.1.2 using menu Help>About Photoshop.
If ACR 8.6 is installed correctly it installs in a common place that is used by both Bridge CS6 and Photoshop CS6.
When you open a RAW file in Phoroshop or in ACR from the Bridge the ACR dialog should open and in its title bar you should see version 8.6.   You should not need to create DNG RAW file for your  NEF RAW files just to used ACR.  You only need to do that if your using an older Photoshop version and an older ACR. version that does not support your Nikon Camera NEF RAW format.
If you have CS6 and the ACR title bar does not show 8.6 you do not have all the CS6 updates installed.  If menu Help>Updates doe not install ACR 8.6 try downloading it manually from the CC updates site and see if the manual update works All the Adobe CC Updates: The Direct Download Links for Mac OS | ProDesignTools

  • Nikon D600 NEF files and Photoshop CS3

    Hi,
I am using Photoshop CS3 and cannot upload Nikon D600 NEF files--obviously a gap between the two debuts.  Are there any suggestions, or am I stuck upgrading?
    Thanks

You could get Lightroom 5, then output your files as tiffs to be opened in CS3.  I haven't used the standalone DNG converter, so I'm not sure if that gives you the option to save as a tiff also.  You could try the dng converter first to see if you can save as another file type, or use a legacy DNG version that is conpatable with CS3.

  • New Nikon d600 NEF files not supported by Elements9

I have a question, my old Nikon d3000 and photoshop elements9 had worked great together.  Now I upgraded my camera to the Nikon d600 and the RAW files are not supported by it... Any suggestions how to resolve this?

The D600 only gets full support in version 7.3 which is out of beta testing and now available as a release candidate. You may want to wait for the final version of camera raw 7.3 which will be available shortly. Alternatively download the release candidate now but make a not to update when the final version is released.

  • Even though Nikon D600 is supported, I cannot download NEF

I read all of the discussions about the Nikon D600 RAW/NEF download problems (all dated around Oct 2012). Today, the Apple information says that D600 RAW/NEF images can be downloaded into Aperture as long as you have version 3.4 or later. I just downloaded version 3.4.3 with MacOS 10.7.5, but when I download the image I get rectangular black blocks with an exclamation mark. Any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong? Just FYI, the camera has both jpeg and RAW/NEF files in it, but I am telling Aperture to only import the RAW/NEF image.
    Thanks for the help.

I actually had updated all of the software, including the Digital RAW compatibility version 4.03. In order to make the images appear, I actually had to follow the advice of "Reprocess" the orignal. Once I did that, the images appeared on the Browser. However, I do not understand why the software does not apply the corresponding RAW download code while downloading, instead of having to reprocess the downloaded image...
I have written a Feedback to Apple.
I would very much appreciate if you have any other suggestions to make the downloading process a single step process rather than a two step process with an intermediate "Reprocess". If there are no other suggestions, I will consider this a solution to the problem, at least until Apple fixes this issue.
    thanks for the help.

  • [Consolidation-Locked] Nikon D600 NEF files in Lightroom 4

Is there an update for Lightroom 4 to accept NEF RAW files for Nikon D600?

Lightroom 4.2 has been released, which provides support for the Nikon D600. In Lightroom, go to Help > Check for Updates to download.

  • How to read Nikon D600 NEF files

I bought a Nikon D600 but am unable read the NEF files read with my version of Lightroom 3 that runs on an older Mac Book which cannot be upgraded to LR4.  If I buy a new Mac, can I upgrade to LR4 on the new machine or do I have to purchase a new version?  If I can upgrade how do I transfer LR3 to the new machine.  Also, I have a student version of Photoshop CS5 Extended.  Can I purchase an upgrade to CS6 on a new machine?
In doing research I saw where both Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS6 had some problems with Apple's OS X 10.8.  Have these been resolved yet?

The D600 is diectly supported by Lightroom 4.2/Camera Rw 7.2 and higher.  So updgrading to Lightroom 4 or Photoshop CS6 will provide full suppor for the D600. Alternatively, you can download the free DNG Converter 7.2 or higher and use it to convert your NEF files to DNG format which is already supported by Lightroom 3.x
You can upgrade from Lr3 to Lr4 on your old and/or new machine as there is no activation code to stop you. You'll probbaly be asked for the Serial Number for Lr3 on the new machine to prove that an upgrade is legitimate. Buying Photoshop CS6 then upgrading the new machine to this is also possible, but you'll need either the DVD for CS5 or have it already installed on the new machine. Basically, CS6 needs to see that a copy of CS5 is available for installation or already on the computer.
As to the problems with 10.8. These have been addressed.

  • Nikon D600 NEF file import problems

    Hi,
Lr won't import NEF files from my nikon d600 even though i've upgraded my software to Lr 4.41 and camera raw 7.4, which according to what i have read on the web, should be enough.
Has anybody got any ideas / encountered this problem themselves before?
    Thanks in advance!

It was my understanding as well, that the latest Lr4 would support those D600 files. I would consider trying with Lr5.2 trial as a test, or converting to DNG prior to import, as a test...
But maybe first: Copy (using OS, not Nikon Transfer) from card to hard disk, then try adding in place. - works?

  • Opening Nikon D600 NEF files using PhotoShop CS4 11.0.2 and ACR 5.7.0.213

    Hello,
    I've just bought a Nikon D600.
    I have Photoshop CS4 11.0.2 and ACR 5.7.0.213.
With these versions, I'm unable to open the D600 NEF files.  I get the following message:
"Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document"
Yet I can view the NEFs in other software that pre-dates the D600, e.g. FastStone Image Viewer 4.6.
Does anybody know if I can get a plug-in from Adobe for PS CS4 that allows me to edit D600 NEFs?
    Many thanks for any help.
    Regards,
    Aisling

Either upgrade to Photoshop CS6 or download the free DNG Converter and covert your NEFs to DNG.

  • Question: Programs that work with Nikon D600 .NEF files

I recently upgraded to the Nikon D600.  With that, I’m unable to open RAW images in the programs that I currently have (PS Elements 9).  Does Photoshop Elements 11 have the correct software (Camera Raw 7 and higher)?  Or will I need to get the full version Photoshop CS6?
Thanks for any help you can offer!

PSE11 will handle your NEF files but you will need to update immediately after installation using:
    Help >> Updates
Also look at Lightroom 5. Unlike Elements it has all of the raw tools from CS6 in an intuitive interface designed for photographers by photographers.

  • Help with Nikon D600 NEF files, CS6, and ACR 7.3 beta

I have been unable to open NEF files from my Nikon D600 in Photoshop CS6, and ACR 7.3 beta.  Any suggestions/guidance would be much appreciated.
RAW was set to 14 bit color, but I can't see that that would matter?

From discussion with others, it would appear that the files were corrupted during transfer.
I have some suggestions that I will try tomorow.
I have no problems opening old Nikon D700 NEF files in Photoshop CS6, and when ACR opens the file it indicates I'm using ACR 7.3 beta.

  • Lightroom 4.4 Nikon D600 Tethering Support

Does anyone know if 4.4RC supports tethering with the Nikon D600?

I figured that out but I couldn't figure out how to have it automatically display the most recent picture full screen or, at least, very large.
If you've ever watched photography training videos (eg. Joe McNally, Dave Black, etal.) they're tethered to a laptop which does that. A few seconds after they take the picture, it shows up on the display. If you had to select the most recent photo, each time, it would really interrupt the workflow.

  • Nikon D5000 NEF Support

    Hello,
The current version of Camera Raw (5.3) does not support the Nikon D5000 NEF format. When can I expect support for this camera to be released? If you need a few NEF files to help in getting this done, let me know and I'll be happy to send you a few.
Until then, I'm using Capture NX 2 instead of Photoshop CS4 and Lightroom 2.

    Hi Tom,
An update is on the way. Sorry can't give a date. No sample files needed,
    but thanks for offering.

  • Nikon D600 Raw support?

Why is it taking so long to provide support for the Nikon D600 RAW files?  I love using Aperture and have established a great workflow that works for me and now i'm having to use Nikon s/w to process the files and import them back into my workflow.  This camera was announced 5 weeks ago.

    Sort of just venting.
    If it helps
You can get an idea, of the time for the raw support to be released by looking at the Apple Support Downloads  page: http://support.apple.com/downloads/.
Enter "Digital Camera RAW Support Update" into the searchfield, and you will see how frequently new raw support will be released.

  • Nikon D600 Nef files

    Hi,
I am unable to read teh NEF files from my Nikon D600 in Elements 9, I have tried installing patches to get this working.
I then tried installing a trial of Elements 11 but still no joy
    Dave

PSE11 will read D600 raw files if you update the Camera Raw plug-in to ACR 7.3 using Help / Updates, if the trial allows that.
You might also try the direct-download installers:
