Nimodbus.llb vs modbus IO Server in project?

I am plan on creating 20+ Modbus TCP Masters on a CRIO and wanted to know if there is any real benefit to using the nimodbus.llb versus creating a modbus master through the project? I want to poll 20+ devices and consolidate the data on a modbus tcp slave on the CRIO. I plan on polling the devices every 500 or 1000 ms. Will there be noticeable performance boost if I use the nimodbus.llb? I personally would like to create the Modbus masters through the project cause its cleaner and easier but I was not sure if performance would be an issue with that many masters running on a CRIO.

I would use the Modbus I/O server built into DSC. I believe that you will see a noticable performance difference, but the only way to know for sure is to benchmark it. I don't see any issues with having that many modbus master but have not tried it to know for sure. Please post back and let us know how it goes.

Good Morning,
I have written code using the nimodbus.llb library using Win2000 and LabVIEW 2009. Works fine. I want to install my application on a new laptop with windows 7. Before I purchase the laptop I'd like to know if it will work.

There is no reason why it shouldn't. It is all pure LabVIEW code that uses VISA functions to communicate with the serial port. If your LabVIEW can run on Win7, then so should the modbus llb drivers.

ModBus IO server build problem...

My application calls for a target computer to function as a modbus master, thus I've created a modbus IO server. Everything works well, the problem is when I try and build an executable that deploys both the IO server and the shared variables in the project library. I've tried various options and Ive gone through all the documentation I could find, but still the problem persists. So my question is what are the relevant steps that are needed to successfully build an installer / exe to get all the necessary files across to the target computer so that all the variables and the IO server successfully deploys the shared variable engine.....

Although there is some good detail in your post you didn't explicitly state your problem. Are the variables and I/O server not being saved in the executable or are they just not deploying on the target machine when you run the executable? Can you give a little more detail on the exact problem? Thanks.

I have searched the internet but most similar issues revolve around the resource center. I did find one person who just backed up the databases and provisioned a new site with success, but this has not worked. I am using the farm admin account, but all users

As far as I tested it, it is not possible either with PS2010. The URL only contains the PDP name and the projUID.

How to add a LLB as a file to a project?

Hello,
I will add a LLB as a file to a project.
If I add the LLB into the project explorer the LLB will be include as a folder and not as a file.
I found the following description on the NI homepage:
You also can add an LLB to a project as a file. If you add an LLB as a file, the VIs in the LLB do not appear in the Project Explorer window.
Right-click the target or a folder under the target, select Add File from the shortcut menu, and use the file dialog box to navigate to the LLB you want to add.
Select the open folder icon labeled VI with a single period to the right and click the Select button.
But when I navigate to the LLB, I don't have an icon labeled VI.
Have anybody an idea or can check this please?

So Sacha, you should probably add a vi inside the llb and then manually edit the .lvproj file..... (or wait until the not too distant future, is the not too distant past)

Project Server or Project Online

Since we do not have SharePoint and it's not coming soon, what options do we have for Project Server or Project Online? Will either work without SharePoint?
The biggest need for project management is to allow the staff assigned to tasks to be able to update their portion of the project. More and more of our project managers are using MS Project Professional at their desks. Any recommendations?

can accomplish what you want using Project Pro and SharePoint online with Project Online. You can synchronize an individual Project with a SharePoint task list and users can update their assignments in SharePoint. If you need Enterprise features, cross-project
reporting, resource management and the like, Project Online is the way to go.

I want to break inheritence and create unique permissions in a Project Server 2010 project site list/library.

Some Project Managers want to restrict permissions on certain lists or libraries in their Project Server 2010 project site. However, when I have done this for them, by breaking inheritence to the parent site and then removing/adding users with unique
sharepoint permissions, it seems that when the project schedule is published, some of the newly created permissions are lost.
I have tried creating a SharePoint group at the project site level and then applied it with specific permissions (eg. Contribute) to the list/library and this seems to work better but I haven't been able to confirm yet if this will work in the
longer term.
Does anyone know what is the best method to break inheritence and set up unique permissions on a list in a Project Server 2010 project site that will not be lost when the project schedule is published?

I am aware that I can disengage the entire permissions sychronisation using that setting but that is not what I want to do. I just want to be able to break the inherited permissions on individual document libraries or lists on specific Project Sites
so that I can restrict access to nominated people.
My issue is that when I do this, I find that some of the amended permissions disappear from time to time. It seems to be related to when the schedule is published. They
don't revert to the inherited permissions, just some of the people who I have given direct access to no longer have access.
Im just trying to find out the best way to manage setting non-automated permissions on a single list or library in a Project Server project sites so the changes stick.

SQL SERVER 2014 - Project consistency check failed. The following inconsistencies were detected: package.dtsx. has a different ProtectionLevel than the project.

I am getting the following error when I right click on a package in solution explorer and execute using SQL Server 2014:
Project consistency check failed. The following inconsistencies were detected: package.dtsx. has a different ProtectionLevel than the project.
Luckily my solution only has 10 packages. I have verified and re-verified that everyone is set to dontsavesensitive.

What on earth is going on here? I am using windows authentication and have no need for the package to save any sensitive information, nor should there be any.
Can someone please help me out here?

Just as the error message said, the exactly issue is that the package package.dtsx has a different ProtectionLevel property value than the project.
So please double check the value of project ProtectionLevel property, like DontSaveSensitive, then make sure all packages in the project use the same ProtectionLevel value.
If there is still an error message indicated that some packages use a different value, please right-click the indicated package to select View Code, then make sure there is a line like below(the DontSaveSensitive
protection level corresponds to the value of 0):
DTS:ProtectionLevel="0"

Publishing to Azure DB from Sql Server DB project with no initial Azure DB

It seems to me that the natural order of development for creating and publishing a Azure DB would be to first create a Sql Server DB project in VS 2013, then publish it to Azure. If no DB exists in Azure then Azure should create it! But I can't seem to get
that to work, I can however create a DB in Azure first, then create a Sql server DB project from it in VS SQL Server Object Explorer where VS imports everything from Azure into my solution. The question is - can I create a SQL Server Database Project in VS
2013 and then publish it to Azure without having any DB in Azure first? If so, is there a tutorial out there somewhere?

Hi witdaj,
The natural order of development is indeed correct, considering you're a developer. For an DBA, the same could apply for SQL Server Management Studio, where you can deploy any database directly to Azure.
In regard to your question, you absolutely need a SQL Database server first. If you've got yourself a SQL Database server, simply right-click the database project and select 'Publish...'. For the connection, click the edit button and insert your SQL Connection
connection string, in the form of <database_server>.database.windows.net,1433. Make sure you've configured your IP address in the server firewall as an allowed client IP. Also, make sure that in the Edit Connection dialog box you select the master database.
In the Publish window, choose your database name (it shouldn't already exist) and you're all set.
The script that generated your database will create a Web database, which you can scale later either in the portal or directly from the master database.
ALTER DATABASE 'db_name' MODIFY (EDITION = 'Business')

Subversion error -- server and project are not accessible

I just updated to CS4 for the only reason to be able to use
SVN within the program. I used to use versions, but thought that
not having to switch would be nice.
Whatever I tried, I'm getting the error "server and project
are not accessible." Remember, log in with Versions works smooth as
pie.
I created a new folder to download a new copy from the
repository, uninstalled all previous subversion clients and
reinstalled CS4, only to still get this error!
What to do? Why is Adobe making this so hard without proper
support?

Unable to open PWA in browser and MSP on application server in project server 2007. ERROR: Sending the Soap message failed or no recognizable response was received.

I am using project server 2007 and WSS 3.0.
I have been facing a strange issue for couple of days. I am unable to open PWA in browser and MS Project Pro on application server.
Everything is correct whether it is URL or MS Project profile account on MSP. This is strange because i can open same PWA/MSP from other computers (Database server / Client PCs) but not locally on server.
When i try to connect to MSP on App server, i get the following errors in event viewer.

Hi,
From error log it seems you have some custom or thrid party web part activated in your application and that web part is not able to load which might causing those pages to get corrupt.
As a fix can suggest you below to two thing to check
1) Remove that "FirePoint.SharePoint.RssViewerWebPart" from your environment and try to access those PWA pages again.
2) Even after removing above web-part solution does not fix this issue, as it is quality env can you try to disconnect and reconnect the share-point farm . Then try to access those pages again.
Share us the latest update and your finding on this issue.

Migrate biztalk 2006R2/SQL server 2005 projects to Biztalk 2013/SQL server 2012

We have Biztalk application projects deployed on Biztalk 2006R2/SQL server 2005 environment on a single server
Now we have installed and configured Biztalk 2013/SQL server 2012 in a multicomputer environment where Biztalk server is on one computer while SQL server is on the other.
Now it's time to migrate the projects 2006R2 to 2013.. Is it a smooth process? I found a lot of posts about migration from 2006R2 to Biztalk 2010... Just wondering if it is similar or more complex?? Appreciate any help/suggestions.. thanks!!

Project Server and Project Pro 2013 - Tasks not allowing Uncomplete Work to be rescheduled

We are current;y running Project Server 2013 on Premise and using timesheets to update task status. We are using the proactive task scheduling to let the allocations, work and dependencies drive the schedule to get accurate project finish dates.
We have several projects that give an error stating "Change would modify work entered by a team member" and "We can't make that change because Project Web App is set to only allow actual work to be entered by a team member through Timesheets
or My Work" when setting the status date and Updating the Project and selecting reschedule Uncompleted Work to start after the status date. We have determined that usually it is only a single task causing the error. we have tried to remove the resource
when no actuals have been entered but we get the same issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like the settings "Only allow task updates via Tasks and Timesheets" has been enabled on your PWA (under Server Settings >> Task Settings and Display).
But the setting is used to prevent any updates to actual work from project pro, and will throw the error you mention above, if a PM tries to update the actual work.
I am not sure why the "Rescheduling of uncompleted work" would thrw this error, but worth checking that setting.
