Njawin - jcomgen and some general questions

Hi.
I'm currently evaluating njawin, and some questions came up:
Will there be a command line interface for jcomgen?
The interactive GUI isn't really suitable for an automated build process.
njawin compared to jawin:
njawin seems to be more advanced, but there's no source available.
Does anybody know if this will change in the future?

The njawin distribution available for "evaluation" download around the web comes with no license, as it is a version of OLE for Java (OLEJA), a commercial product, which was developed before OLEJA went retail.
One thing you'll notice is that OLEJA and Njawin have remarkably similar APIs. If your application's functionality does not have very complex requirements, you can simply replace all references to "oleja" with "njawin", and all references to "compose" with "develop". This holds true for the generated .java files, the .xml file, etc. I am not sure if OLEJA introduces or uses more APIs than the ones that appeared in Njawin, but for my application, this approach was successful.
One other thing to keep in mind is that I don't see why you'd actually need to build your sources into a jar, if you simply include them in a larger package as part of your application's source code. Just put njawin.jar, njawin.dll, and yourdll.dll on the build path and the rest of your problems should be solved for you. Keep in mind that, since OLEJA is commercialized, it's been debugged a lot (as the author has stated in mailing lists) and that means Njawin could have some unexpected problems. In this case you should thoroughly test your usage of Njawin with your application to be sure it runs well in your environment. Errors that could potentially crash your JVM may appear when certain functionality (especially multi-threaded functionality) inside your ActiveX control is executed.

It can be used for both depend upon bottle neck resource whether machine or labour.

Better it should be finite planning for planned order also you can use MRP with lead time scheduling.

It depends upon the data load and selection,
Restrict the number of objects to be displayed, for example, select only a small number of work-centers/orders.
Customize the time profile (transaction OPD2) such that the database read period, the planning period and the evaluation period are as small as possible. As a result, fewer objects are read and displayed.

If you want to process more orders, check whether a batch planning (planning in the background on transaction CM40) is possible.

It depends upon your requirements which transaction to use and which profile. You can customize your own profile also.

Report Builder Question - OA AR Aging - and a general question

I'm sure this is the wrong forum for this question, but I thought there might be someone here who might be using Oracle Applications and Report Builder who'd be kind enough to help me out.
We've recently implemented Oracle Applications 11.5.10 and I have to use report builder to change the Accounts Receiveable Aging (7 bucket) to a 5 bucket report. I've already made some changes to the seeded "ARXAGMW.rdf" report, but I'm not a big Oracle Reports guy. I've stumbled through making some changes in various other reports. But this one is just plain nasty! :)
I was thinking that I could simply add buckets 6 & 7 to bucket 5, then just hide or delete the 6 & 7 buckets. But I'm not sure where to even start. Any help with this would GUARANTEE a Christmas or other holiday card this year! :)
I really want to keep this simple as possible, so any help would be very....helpful. :)
Oh, my general question is: Are there any resouces/books for Oracle Reports (Report Builder)? I feel so lost trying to modify existing reports, let alone creating new ones.

I am working on the 7-bucket aging report and i want to add a new field in data model.
As the query is build dynamically, i have modified the function BUILD_CUSTOMER_SELECT to meet my requirements.
But the problem is that in the data model, the field is not present in my Grouping. and if I try to add the field in the Data Model query (Q_ Customer) section,

Camileo charging problem (solved) and a general question!

Hi all!
First of all, I was going to ask for help as to why the Camileo S10 was not charging (the orange light wasn't flashing), and I'd seen a few people with similar problems.
The solution?
Give the contacts on the battery a clean.
The insulation sticker that comes on it must leave some kind of residue on it, and it's enough to prevent charging. Now it's flashing away happily :]
So my general question was, is it possible/advisable to use the camera on the mains?
Rather than constantly draining and charging the battery during long shoots, I'd prefer to just leave it plugged in!

I think the battery handling is always the same no matter what product it is
From time to time the battery should be recalibrated.
This means that the battery should be discharged fully and after then you should charge it again until the battery would reach 100%
I do this with all my batteries; mobile phone battery, digi cam battery and notebook battery.

Update on Bioinformatics WIKI, scripting challenges, and a general question

I am waiting for my site to go on-line at Oak Ridge National Labs (USA, Tennessee). Should be another week or so, maybe less.
When that happens, you will see a veritable explosion of scripting challenges in my wiki (Emerging Technologies->Bioinformatics.)
One general question in preparation for these challenges.
There are a number of standard bioinformatic programs that can be run interactively via the web at various sites, e.g. "BLAST" and "STRIDE".
Although these can also be run locally, this requires that you download large databases and keep them updated.
So here's my question to the scripting experts:
Are scripting languages powerful enough to submit queries to web pages and then use regex's to parse the html that is returned?
Bill Mann has used PERL to do some of the required regex parsing, but there is a lot left to do, and, his stuff only works when a perl program is invoking a bioinformatic program locally, not interactively.
If so, we all can do some beautiful stuff together , if anyone is interested ...

Streaming problems and some other questions

1) i've read that some people have problems streaming youtube as well as me. but mine is terrible, i can't stream at all. my curve 8900 can barely stream with wifi.......why is this? is there any updates? ALSO, i have version 4.6, can i update this to a more recent blackberry version? if so, where? thank you! x p.s. i just tried with wifi now, and it doesn't stream at all, it says i may have either javascript turned off or old version of adobe flash player........
2) can we not have adobe flash?...because i can't stream any video off any website...
3) through an e-mail i was sent a pdf file and i opened it and i'm not sure if i saved it. if i did save it, where could it be stored? i've looked everywhere!
4) under 'setup' there is an 'interactive' button. what i that for?
5) BLUETOOTH PROBLEM: i've paired it and tried (when to media and done the 'recieve using bluetooth') and it didn't work. so i deleted the pair and tried it without, and still nothing. i've tried fixing some options in settings but still nothing...i think i played with the options a bit too much now...lol. but is there an ideas? please help. also, is there anything in options that i have changed which might be hindering the process (i.e. firewall)?
p.s. i read both manuals that came in the both and the help they provide is all common sense!...they need a more detailed manual in my opinion. Also, is there a number i can call for support/help for my questions regarding my 8900?

Many possible reasons -- poor coverage area, old OS, trying to use the full YouTube rather than their mobile site, etc.

No. Flash is not available for BB's at the present time. I'm pretty sure that your "any" words are overstated -- perhaps the sites you try cannot stream, but there are others who can stream, so any is a bit over the top.

Just send yourself another attachment...then pay attention when you save it, then go there and that should be the same place that older PDF should have gone.

Understanding Flex: Can it be used without Flash-knowledge, and some other questions

Hi.
I'm trying to understand how Flex works. My understanding is
that Flex is like the integration link between Flash-content and
.NET-applications on the web. We need rich interface on our
.NET-applications - without ActionScript-coding required from the
programmer's side.
Can this be acheived with Flex alone?
What is Coldfusion required for? Can Flex be used without it
to create the rich web interface?
Are basic components included and ready-to-be-used? What if
special components are needed? E.g. multi-level menu-tree or some
special data grid. Can this be developed by a Flash-programmer and
used as a "generic" component?
My reason for choosing this would be that we easily can
acheive great web-layouts that are Flash-based, and that interact
with our .NET-applications. Is this the product I'm looking for?

It is absolutely possible to create complex custom components
in Flex and without FlashPro.
Flex can communicate with the server in several ways.
WebService: SOAP-based
HTTPService: XML over HTTP, (like REST and AJAX)
RemoteObject: uses proprietary amf protocol, needs Java or CF
on back-end
There are some others like URLLoader and sockets.
Unless you need your back end functionality to be generally
available to anonymous third parties (hence the wsdl), WebServices
are unnecessarily complex.
I prefer HTTPService, I post xml strings in the normal
name=value format to the server and use e4x xml as the resultFormat
in flex.
Even though you said "roughly", that is still an impossible
question to answer, there are too many variables: On the back-end,
do you need to install a database? Create the schema? or is some of
that part done already? On the front-end, How will you navigate the
records? See, too many variables.
The communication part is by far the easiest. Almost
negligible, although the Flash Player security can cause some
head-scratching!

You can have an input field (bound to a context attribute) in your view. Whatever you type in the field will now be associated with the context attribute in your context. Place a button on your view. Define an action for this button (e.g. SEARCH), in the property onAction of the button. Now, in the action handler for the button (ONACTIONSEARCH), access the context attribute (can be done using WD Code Wizard). Then using your business logic, get the date into another context attribute, which can be displayed in the view using a textview (or textviews)
Find whether ALV is used in your WD Application
Go to your WD Component, in the used components you should find a use for component SALV_WD_TABLE. Also, in one of the views, the Interface View TABLE of the ALV component will be embedded in its ViewContainerUIElement. This information can be found in the Window of your own WD Component.

I am a beginner with java and actually i am new to programming as such. i want to ask certain questions.
I read in The Java Tutorial that java is both a 'compiled' and an 'interpreted' language while most languages fall in either one of the two categories. What is the difference between a compiled and an interpreted language?
All the java programs that we right are compiled by the java compiler. So in what language was this java compiler and java VM written
What is the definition of native code. Does it depend on the operating system ? If so, is it defined by the operating system ? If I am not mistaken, an OS in itself is a huge program, so which language can be used to create an OS. For instance, can an expert in java create his own OS using the java programming language ?

Okay, a compiled language is completely translated into object code (one and zeroes, usually) before it is run. An interpreted language is turned into object code as it runs. The object code for most languages is the ones and zeroes that make sense to the processor. The object code for Java is Java bytecode.
Java bytecode is a set of universal commands that make sense to any Java Runtime Environment (JRE or Java Virtual Machine JVM. I think they're the same thing, someone correct me if I'm wrong,). The JRE is an interpreter. Each JRE is specific to the platform, that is; there's a Windows JRE and a Solaris JRE and yada yada. The JRE interprets the bytecode commands and turns them into commands for the platform. For instance, a bytecode command is something like, "draw a window" and the JRE turns this into the Windows or Solaris command that draws a window.
I don't know what language Java was written in. It may not all be written in one language. It's very possible that the Java compiler (javac) and the java interpreter (the JRE) are written in entirely different languages. I'd suspect the answer to this can be found in van der Linden's "Just Java" book.
Native code, in Java, usually refers to legacy code, existing code written in whatever language that you wish to use in a Java program. Maybe the native code costs too much to convert; maybe it works really well, maybe it does soemthing special, whatever -- you want to use it so you use the native command in a Java program to tell Java to run this piece of code in whatever language. Native code doesn't really have anything to do with the OS other than it's code that runs on the OS you want the Java program to run on.
An OS can be written in anything you want, but some languages are better than others. I think the Mac OS is/was mostly Pascal. Wasn't C invented in order to write Unix?

Some General Questions about using SSL sockets

1 Since both SSL and TLS rely on public-key cryptography, can I use it efficiently for encrypting large amount of data transfer within a network? Or I�ll be better off using secret key.
2 If I understand correctly, I can install client/server certificate (public key) along with the software installation. Is that right? In other words, I don�t have to create them programmatically.
3 To convert our unsecured client/server application, is it enough to replace plain sockets with SSL sockets and use a self signed certificate for the server? (Ours is a closed network and we don�t require any client authentication).
4 How does SSL handles server to server communications?
5 How do you encrypt data ( some of the fields) in a text file?

hey there.
1.yes you can use it to encrypt large amounts of data, and heres why:
when you use SSL, it uses public key encryption to first tranfser across a private key. then from then on the data is simply private key encrypted, which is relatively fast and easy.
2. Yes, you may chose to make them programatically or not
4. the question doesn't really make sense. In the end, what is a Server and what is a Client is up to your application. From SSL's point of view, you just have two machines with Sockets on either side that are connected. You can use SSLSocket.setClientMode(boolean) to choose which of those socket will act as the "server" for the purpose of the authentication handsake.

Some general questions about swing

I used to do some swing development couple years back but since then I have been more involved in the j2ee scene. I have lost some touch and was wondering if some of my questions can be answered. I'd appreciate every effort.
First of all, I am trying to make an applet that can be used to upload multiple pics at the same time. Similar idea to facebook picture upload applet. My Q's are
-> can every swing application be turned into an applet? or when the developer starts writing an application he should write it from an applet POV
-> I noticed that the applet on facebook looks a lot like a window application. icons and the look and feel of the application is not that of a applets i saw couple years ago with sun java look and feel, how can this be achieved? is there some small example?
-> can someone suggest an example || tutorial of an applet that shows how to upload an image to the server?
and lastly for mental satisfaction :)
-> how hard do you think it is to build such an application. I assume it will just have a JTree on the left side and on right side it will show contents of the folder that is currently clicked.

However, the tutorial explains how to show icons from images. But what about in my case when the images arent even on the server yet.
Basically when the user is browsing files and gets to their my pics folder on the right side i want to show icons of images in that folder. for this reason i doubt I will be able to use what they've implemented in that tutorial. As the pics havnt yet been uploaded by the user i have no direct access to the images.

How to be most popular and some finance questions.

Hi i'm interested how to make business podcasts.
As i see that's not that hard. Producing podcast is pretty simple if i have a content prepaired for iTunes.
But still i have some questions:
1) What do i need to be on the top rated list? How the ratings really work?
2) Can i sell podcasts somehow?

1) Being a top rated podcast really comes down to having quality content and production, and being someone that people want to hear. There is no secret meta tags, or some secret technique to being a top rated podcast and getting on the featured list. If you're good, give the people something they want to hear, then popularity will come.
To be featured, according to Apple, is you have to have a minimum of 3 podcast episodes listed, have visually appealing album artwork, then getting on the featured podcast list is just a matter of staff approval (favorites). They review and select their favorites to feature based on what people are listening to and what they think provides good content. There is no real way to get on the list, other than producing a quality podcast that the staff feels is worthy of featuring.
2.) Can you sell your podcast? You can try, but the real question is, what would make someone want to pay for your podcast, when there are so many others out there with similar information for free? Unless you have a name established, it can be very difficult to really get people willing to pay for your podcast. What you should be thinking, is how can you use your podcast to promote other aspects of your business. If you put out a podcast that provides quality content, and leaves people wanting more, then you can direct them to your site to sell other products or services. But don't turn your podcast into a commercial where you are constantly plugging your products or services. People will tire of that and know you are just trying to sell them.
Give them good information, show them you know what you are talking about, and they will want to learn more. An alternative to selling your podcast to make money, is to sell advertising on your podcast. As you become popular for your quality content and giving away information, and your listener base grows, you can do much like radio stations do, and charge to put on a little commercial for other products.

MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Aspect ratio and some other questions...

I haven't purchased an Apple TV yet (emphasizing YET) but I'm very interested and may make the leap tomorrow. I've been reading a lot on the discussion boards but still had a few questions. I have a widescreen 46" Samsung LCD TV that I'm planning to use as my primary TV. The wife and I have rented a few movies from the iTunes store and noticed the aspect ratio leaves the picture fairly small. I wasn't expecting a full screen picture, but something a little more than barely half the screen. Will the Apple TV improve the picture size or is this what I'm going to expect going forward? Any pictures would be great!
Second, as far as I've read, you cannot connect an external hard drive to the Apple TV itself, but if I hook it to my PowerBook and use my external HDD as my iTunes Library source, will everything work fairly seamlessly? I have an Airport Extreme base station so I'm hoping things work pretty well.
Next, between the 40GB and 160GB Apple TV's -- is there an overwhelming reason to get one or another?
And last (I think), I've started ripping some of my old movies using Handbrake and was curious how the picture comes out on an Apple TV after extracting from DVD's. I've been using the standard "Apple TV" settings within Handbrake.

I don't know what monitor you have but there is a fair chance it has a resolution of at least 1600 x 1000 which is why your 640 x 480 rental doesn't fill it although itunes does have an option tto show movies full screen.
Tv's typically have much lower resolutions than monitors and the output from the tv is matched to such resolutions. In short your rentals will fill the screen on your tv when played on the tv.
Many of us here use external drives attached to either a desktop or a laptop to hold out libraries, yes they work flawlessly.
We can't actually discuss methods for ripping commercial DVD's but needless to say handbrake does give good quality exports, I've used it on a few non commercial discs and found the results to be more or less the same quality as the original. In addition to the  preset I always enable 2 pass encoding.

Imac G3 clock not working - and some other questions

This iMac is starting to act slow, especially browsing with FireFox. Also, the clock will not hold its time. Won't browse at all with IE or Safari. Well, Safari will sorta work - but for some reason automatically downloads FAD messages on desktop.
Does this computer just need a new battery for the clock? Also, will that battery also improve the general sluggishness?
What battery does it need and how can I replace it?
Also, regarding browsing - there are less and less browsers that work with this computer. I'd like to upgrade (currently using 10.2.8) but not sure if it can handle an upgrade. Will it actually start handling even slower because an upgraded OS is wearing it down? Any suggestions? More computer info listed below:

You can run the top command in the terminal to get an idea about system and memory usage.
Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal
type
top -u
then press enter and you will some memory stats. The display is hard to digest, but if you watch for awhile (days) you will get some hints.
Look for this line. The number in yours will be different.
PhysMem: 58.8M wired, 101M active, 271M inactive, 431M used, 336M free
so
wired + active + inactive = used
used + free = installed memory (768 off by a meg )
336M free means total unused memory. I have lots of free memory.
The next line
VM: 4.22G + 118M 22499(0) pageins, 0(0) pageouts
VM is virtual memory.
You notice I have 0(0) pageouts which says that I am not using my harddrive for extra memory space. 0 is the total (0) is this time period
Hence, I would not benefit from more memory.
You could post your number here for comments.
Mac OS 10.2 doesn't do the best job of cleaning up after itself. Perhaps a little housekeeping would help.

Perhaps you should try running the periodic jobs. These jobs are run daily weekly monthly to do general system maintenance. These jobs will clean up the logs.

Maybe you should try one of these general clean up programs. You might backup your system before pounding too hard. I'd repair permissions as suggested earlier.
