No 25p with Custom Compound Clip settings?

Sometimes I can, and sometimes I can't get anything other than 23.98 p when I choose custom setting for a new Compound Clip.
Anyone else get this?
(Of course, I trashed the prefs).
Andy

It can be done - this is one I made some time ago - but I can't remember whether I made it in the timeline and then moved it?

  • Cannot change compound clip settings from 1080P 60fps to 1080i 25fps

    Hi. I created a compound clip, which for some reason ended up with settings of 1080P 60fps (probably because I added a music track first before any video and just used the automatic settings). After editing a whole sequence and exporting a master file, I realized the settings had been wrong. All my footage is 1080i 25fps.
    Only thing is when I tried to change the compound clip settings, I only had other progressive options available. I could not change it to 1080i.
    I had to create a brand new Compound Clip with 1080i 25 and paste the clips from the original CC into the new CC. Only thing was a music track was now out of sync with the video (presumably because the fps value in the original CC did not match the footage). I had to retime the audio track to around 99% speed to fit to the video clips again!
    Why could I not change the CC settings directly?
    Thanks

    The compound clip is acting like a project. You can never change the timebase of project once there's media in it. You should copy and paste into a new compound clip if you can.

  • HELP! - i need to recapture footage WITH AUDIO  (edit clip settings??)

    so i logged about 10 tapes with the "audio" box unchecked in the clip settings window. so i didnt realize this until i logged all my clips and there wasn't any audio. i realize i need to recapture all my tapes again (which is fine) but I cannot edit the clip settings to tell fcp to this time capture the audio.
    i do not want to log all these tapes again. any suggestions please??
    thanks

    Try selecting all the logged clips in the Browser and then choose Modify > Clip Settings.
    A window opens allowing you to change the settings

    It's yet another stupidity of Canon. Try it from a card reader or disk archive. The Picture Transfer Protocol is switched off in the camera. How stupid is that?

  • Help with creating compound/Clipping Mask

    Hello,
    This is going to be quite hard to explain so bear with me!
    I recently live traced a hand drawn pattern into illustrator pressing 'Ignore white', Underneath this I have a jpg with a texture I want to use. My aim is to cut out the shape of two letters into this pattern/texture.
    My problem is that creating a compound mask on my pattern will not work because live trace has created a group with hundred of paths and compound paths from my live trace, is there anyway create a mask so that the pattern just shows up as the two letters and deletes everything around it?
    I want to use this method because although I can cut the letters out of a white square covering everything in the background, the design is for a logo and I would like to export as a PNG with a transparent background.
    I know there are often a few was to get a desired effect with illustrator but I just can't get my head around this one!
    Thanks for any help,
    Laltoofan4

    Place the outline of the letters on top of the pattern. Select the pattern and the letters and choose Object > Clipping Mask > Make.

  • Client captured a 480i feed with 486p (MOTU)  clip settings

    The resulting video has a partial rolling "venetian blind" type effect to it. Does anyone have any experience with this situation?
    I was wondering if there plugins (i.e. Re:vision FX Fieldskit, etc) that can correct this problem? I will upload a picture later in a day to explain this problem better.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    -BC

    Sorry. Back home and can upload some images - I will attach a still and a video clip - I am confident that this can be fixed - there must be a plugin to pretty much auto-fix this - all the data is there (kinda) - but what plugin?!?  RE:VisionFX must make something like this, but I'm thinking it's not the fieldskit the more I think about it - this looks more like "interference" in my opinion. There is a slow upward "roll" to it as well... Also, it was not recored full-raster - There was a small black stripe on the left side of the image - this has been H-stretched to 104% and shifted already. If the original would help I could post that as well, in case someone has corrected this exact problem.
    They thought the lines were just showing on the preview too. Thought it was recording normal. They sent the feed from the Barco Image Pro HD to 480i (NTSC) so they could split it off and send the same feed to the DVD record deck as well (it didn't like the 720x480p feed)... By the way, this was sent from the Image Pro to the Mac tower via the MOTU with a COMPOSITE feed (I know... Again, to accomodate the DVD backup unit which is composite-only)
    I blacked-out the logo on the lectern...
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!  -BC

  • Project not showing full frame in a compound clip

    Hi Folk;
    I am finishing my first project in FCPX (10.0.9) . Overall everything went very well.
    I had another editor start the project on another computer.
    I copied the event to my iMac and continued the edit. No problems until I exported the project for the client review.
    I have a compound clip with mixed footage and a storyline and connected clips that I have used in a project with several compound clips.
    I can play this particular compound clip fine and all the video displays fine. (see picture #2)
    I lay the this Compound clip into the project and I get less than full frame out in my "storyline" elements - especially after the orange render bar disappears -
    I sent the client a version with the "drop out" video (see first pix below where image does not reveal full frame ) and have spent a few hours looking for a cause for my issue. I am wondering if I am the only one dealing with this.
    I have created a work around - exported the compound clip and reimport it as a full clip and layed it into the timeline.
    The setting for the compound clip are XDCAM sony and the footage that is at issue is AVCHD from a panasonic.
    I have several events providing footage for the compound clip
    The project has seveal compound clips from different events
    The event folder I created seems to be where the issue lives. or maybe the render -
    I am using orginal footage not proxies.
    I want to avoid this in the future so any insight is helpful.
    I feel I have made a mess of my first project and want to clean up any bad habit that may be causing my problem.
    Thanks for the opportunity to diagnos this.
    I am sure this is as clear as mud.
    Cheers!

    when you first create a new project, FCPX *can* be set to accept "Automatic Settings" -- basically, it will take the properties of the first clip dropped in the storyline. This can be very convenient if you know the media will be all the same, or you know how to manipulate the "first drop".
    If you know the format you want your project to be, it's better to set that up manually when you start a new project (Advanced Options). When you apply your media to the storyline, FCPX will conform the media to the project settings. It doesn't always work perfectly (due to custom or proprietary differences in file formats for the containers holding the media.) For instance, one of my older (SD) camcorders produces "Samsung AVC" (from Get Info on the file) and FCPX simply will not recognize the anamorphic footage.
    Anyway, so, yes, I would suspect the 1440x1020 footage might be problematic. (Are you sure it's 1020?? or did you mistype? If it's actually 1080, it still might be giving you problems. All of my 1440 footage requires manually adjusting the width by 133.33%).
    You can force a change for your project by clicking going out into the Project Library and with your project selected, you should see a wrench icon at the bottom right of the inspector. Click that and adjust your project settings (you cannot change the frame rate once a project is started, but you can change just about everything else.) Once you get the format set up (and you go back into your project), then you'll know which clips will need to be adjusted. If you have footage that won't fit the frame, you will probably need to go into the video tab > Transform, turn down the Scale disclosure triangle and adjust the X scale (usually) and Y scale (only if necessary.) If the footage you need to conform is SD, there is an Anamorphic Override option available in Info > Settings.
    About compound clips... FCPX tries to guess a format based on "common" properties. If you're creating compound clips with mixed media - Use  Custom Settings and set the properties to be the same as the project format.

  • Is it true that compound clips don't transfer when organizing, consolidating, or duplicating projects?

    I've been stymied trying to duplicate projects with used media.  My compound clips lose their connections much of the time.  To be fair, I use compound clips that I made before 10.6 and after 10.6. Maybe that's the issue?  Either way, I thinking I'm doing everything by the book -- organizing and consolidating event media, consolidationg project media, then duplicating, then organizing again just to be sure.  But my compound clips connections are getting lost.  I am confused about all of these organizing and consolidating choices and would love to get the dope on how to do this in a fool proof way. That is if there isn't a bug with the compound clip transferring -- which I read on FCP.CO.  Thanks for any advice.

    I've got a project on my Thunderbolt drive that references 3 events:
    My aim is to move this project to another disk with only the used clips, including compound and multicam clips.  So I click on the project and pick duplicate project with used clips and select a different drive.
    (I've tried consolidating and organizing these events and projects before this step but I always get the messages that the media is all in the same location.)
    When the project duplicates, I find that it still references clips on the original drive:
    So I go to modify the event references and drag the event that I want to reference (in this case the one on the Macintosh HD) to the top of the list, as such:
    When I click OK, however, the event on my Mac HD does not really stay at the top of the list, and my info pannel shows that the project is still referencing multiple events in multiple locations.  When I reopen the modify events window, the event references are not in the order I tried to set them at in the previous step:
    I can repeat this process over and over and still get random and incorrect results.
    The big issue is that if I look at the event that I tried to duplicate the used media to, the compound clips are all referencing their original events still.  If I disconnect the drive with those original events, I get the missing media icon in my event and my project.
    If I reconnect the drive and try to organize event files or consolidate or organize project files, my compound clips still reference media from the other drives.
    I believe I've tried performing nearly every sequence of consolidating, organizing, duplicating, etc that I've read about -- not just the sequence above.  And I never get reliable results with compound clips.
    I would love a review of the exact sequence of events I should follow to successfully archive a project on a separate drive with only used media, including compound clips.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

  • Compound clip audio issue

    I record table-top games, and capture audio from an external microphone. I then sync them up into a compound clip with the camera audio muted and the good audio turned up. The problem is, whenever I go to cut up the clip (delete unnecessary bits), there is a very noticeable audio jump between cuts. Like the audio shuts off and on very quickly, even when I just make a splice and don't delete anything. I've cut up different clips using the same equipment numerous times and it has always been seamless, so I am guess that this is an issue with using compound clips. Does any one have a solution? driving me crazy.

    TImecode shouldn't matter. FCP doesn't use it. Have you tried the sync function?
    you can also select the video and use open in timeline, then add the audio into it to sync it.
    COmpound clips shouldn't be involved.
    WHat are the  audio sample rates?

  • Lost compound clip?

    After doing a lot editing I shut down final cut x and when I reopened it had lost one of my compound clips for some reason?  It makes no sense because it saved the my most recent edits and just didn't save that compound clip. It is a wedding that I am working on and I make compound clips of different sections such as Pre-Wedding, Photo shoot, Ceremony.. etc.. It didn't save the photo shoot compound clip. I was thinking that maybe I could check the autosave vault and it would be something I can recover but fcp doesn't have the vault anymore. Is there something I am missing or a reason why this would happen?

    The compound clip was in a project, and the media still there. As a backup I duplicated the complete project before I started with the compound clip, so I lost all the work done on this compound...
    The problem happened when I quit FCPX, because it was too slow, I quit FCPX with the compound clip opened (in use), then I started FCPX again, and the compound clip wasn't there. It was like the compound clip never existed in the project.

  • Will compound clips honor the project settings?

    Hi,
    When I created my compound clips I created then from proxy files at 2K. Now I have gone through all the compound clips and replaced the proxy files with the master 4K files, but to my horror I have discovered that the clips all have individual clip settings, which remain at their old proxy dimensions (2K).  Furthermore I have been unable to edit the clip settings for multiple clips (I don't welcome spending my night going through all 300 clips again!).
    My project is set to 4K and render type as Prores 4444; if I drop the clips on the timeline, will they honor the project settings or will they remain 2K?
    I don't really get what this behavior is for.  Wouldn't you want all the clips in a project to render to the same format?

    As Tom asks, how did you manage to work with 2K proxies that are not linked?
    If you import the 4K masters into FCPX and ask it to generate proxies, you can swap back and forth, automatically!
    Preferences: Playback: Playback settings..
    If you've done the proxies manually, you have to manually change them..

  • Making a clipping group with a compound path

    So, as of today I'm new to scripting for Illustrator, I'm using the ExtendScript Toolkit. However I'm not new to scripting my own solutions and I do have some experience with JavaScript already.
    What I'm trying to do is this: For all selected Items->Duplicate selected item and make a simple clipping group with it
    What I end up with visually doesn't change the picture, but gives me a lot of clipped colored areas which I then can edit in the isolated mode, allowing me far faster and better shading. Doing that by hand takes hours on some pictures, it'd take a second with a script.
    The script itself already perfectly works for normal PathItems. As obvious in the title, as soon as I have to apply the same to CompundPathItems things stop working. My issue is somewhat similar to this old thread [Problem with compound path clipping], but I couldn't find a solution there because I get different behavior.
    When I run the very same script that perfectly works with the normal PathItems with CompoundPathItems I get this: Error 9046: The top item in the group must be a path item to create a mask
    Well that's a problem. In the GUI there is absolutely no difference between making a clipping mask with a simple path and a compound path. The reference guide has frankly not helped me with this issue at all, the only thing I learned from that is that the CompoundPathItem object doesn't have a clipping attribute, but those included PathItems do.
    Here's what I have so far:
    if ( selected[i].typename == "PathItem" ) {
    var newGroup = doc.groupItems.add();
    copy = selected[i].duplicate(newGroup,ElementPlacement.PLACEATEND);
    selected[i].moveToBeginning(newGroup);
    newGroup.clipped = true;
    As I said, this part perfectly does what it's supposed to do for normal Paths.
    For CompoundPaths I use this workaround.
    if ( selected[i].typename == "CompoundPathItem" ) {
    var newGroup = doc.groupItems.add();
    copy = selected[i].duplicate(newGroup,ElementPlacement.PLACEATEND);
    selected[i].moveToBeginning(newGroup);
    compoundItems = selected[i].pathItems;
    compoundIndex = compoundItems.length;
    for ( f = 0; f < compoundIndex; f++ ) {compoundItems[f].clipping=true;}
    var lineList = new Array(10);
    for ( l = 0; l < lineList.length; l++ ) {lineList[l] = new Array( i * 10 + 50, ((i - 5) ^ 2) * 5 +50);}
    newPath = app.activeDocument.pathItems.add();
    newPath.setEntirePath(lineList);
    newPath.moveToBeginning(newGroup);
    newGroup.clipped = true;
    newPath.remove();
    Mind you, this workaround does work in so far that it bypasses that annoying and wrong error, and the Compound Clipping Path also works, with the only problem being that the Compound Clipping Path created like this is still displayed in its original colors in the Layers section, and is still selectable. When I lock the Compound Clipping Path I can work with it but still...
    So the question is, what am I missing here? Surely there must be a proper way to do this.

    app.executeMenuCommand()? That one eluded me so far, might be just the right thing. I'll definitely take a look, now just to find a ref on that, as unfortunately the official ref documents I have don't mention that command. Any place with a list of possible commands?
    Ah, also of course I'm not only doing it for the isolation mode. If you care to hear the background, here is it:
    As I said it's for shading the pictures I'm working on. I've iterated and tried through a bunch of techniques. For example gradient meshes on my first few real works. Now those meshes don't do well with complex shapes, which previously I alleviated by using a simple square or rectangle gradient mesh and using the original colored shape as a clipping mask. That did work, but it was a huge lot of work.
    After a bunch of attempts at that I went over to using simple gradients as a background for the shape and then I'm doing the shading freehand with the blob brush tool, using a graphic style and filters to make it look right. That's better, but properly making all the clipping masks takes me much longer than anything else.
    Now the problem is that the shading is not supposed to go over the lines, which is impossible to do properly without either messing up the order, or using clipping masks, hence the script. Because you know, if you use a blob brush with a strong Gaussian blur close to the lines you'll end up with stuff on both sides. If you don't start close to the line the shading won't look right if the darkest part of the shade needs to be close to the line. And that's where clipping masks do magic.
    And finally here's an example how I work with the script and the result:
    After I have traced a sketch, adjusted the line widths and everything to look neat I turn the paths to outline strokes and then make them into a live paint group (which would mess up the line widths, unless you turn the paths into outline strokes first).
    With that live paint group it takes me just a few minutes to flat color my piece. Then I expand the live paint group, in case of doubt spend some more minutes to make compound paths from all areas I need to shade in one piece, then I select all the areas and use my script to turn them into neat clipping masks. Then I can click any area, enter the isolation mode and go up one level so I'm in the appropriate group, where I can shade freely without the problem of going over the lines.
    At the end that allows me to apply a complex and in-depth shading, without wasting any time to get there.
    PS: Well, I just found out that Draw Inside is pretty darn close to what I want to do, and oddly enough it produces the same visual discrepancy with compound paths that my script produces. I'll be taking a closer look at that, though my script does a little more than just the clipping mask stuff, so maybe I'll go for a hybrid solution. Whatever makes for a better workflow.

  • Compound clip with now sequence symbol

    I moved a fcp7 project to fcpx using 7 to X.   Nested sequences were created as compound clips in fcpx, but they looked a bit different from the compound clips, they had no sequence symbol next to the name.  Also, double clicking them did not open them, but I could open them by right clicking and using open in timeline command.  One of the compound clips did not show any video, but if i did "open in timeline" command it would open the correct video, but with hash tag lines.
    One of the compound clips did not show any video, but if i did "open in timeline" command it would open the correct video, but with hash tag lines.
    is there an explanation for this?   Thanks

    The hash lines usually indicate portions of a nested sequence that are outside the portion used inside a sequence in the legacy version.
