No 64-bit long ints in LabVIEW 7? [Also: beta version of 64-bit LabVIEW?]

Is there no primitive data type in LabVIEW 7 that corresponds to a 64-bit long int? [I guess LabVIEW would call it either I64 or U64...]
Please, please tell me I'm wrong - if I'm right, this is an unacceptable state of affairs.
And, if I'm right - when will LabVIEW be upgraded to 64-bit-ness? Is there a beta version of 64-bit LabVIEW out there that I could get involved with? [I'd really, really like a 'for' loop that could take 64-bit ints as its counters.]
Anyone know anything about this?
Thanks!

There is no native support for 64 bit ints. I don't expect to see that until Windows has support for 64 bits. For work arounds, see this posting.

• Purchased Lightroom 4 no longer opens, says it's a beta version and has expired.

This is not true, I PURCHASED it as an upgrade from 3 when it was first released.  I've used it with no problems since, now cannot even open it.  Help!!!  Is it because I haven't upgraded it to 4.1 or 4.2?  I've tried to download 4.2 and I haven't been able to even see it on my computer (MacBook Pro)...currently working on downloading 4.1, hoping that fixes it.  This is not good, I can't access my workload and am worried about it not even being there anymore...

Look in the Applications folder and make sure there's only one copy of LR4, and it's the application rather than a pkg file (just make sure it's got the proper LR icon)
And then it would be worth updating to 4.2  - update is here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5487
Download that to your Downloads folder or Desktop.  There have been some installation issues with people putting the installer download directly into the Applications folder.  Once it's finished downloading, you'll have a .pkg file.  Close LR and double click on the pkg file to let the installer run.  Once you've finished, double click on Lightroom in the Applications folder.  Check it says you're opening 4.2. and check that you don't now have 2 LR icons in the dock.

• Binary variable view does not work for long long int

According to this document CVI 2013 supports long long int. While clang probably does, the variable view does not always support it... If you want to look at the value of a long long int variable and choose the binary format, the value may be too large to be displayed, see below: nothing is displayed if too many digits are required - actually 64 digits should be supported but aren't

Yep, looks like a bug: 423654.
Support for long long's are not new to 2013, by the way. They've been supported since 2009, as long as you enabled the C99 extensions option.

• Long.toString(long, int) throws ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException

We're using Long.toString(long, int) to convert a long into a base-32 string, which is used as a primary key for entities in our database. On occasion, Long.toString(long, int) throws an ArrayOutOfBoundsException! This only occurs in the deployed system, I cannot get it to occur in a testing environment.
The object that contains the call to Long.toString(int, long) is shared by multiple threads, but the state of the object is immutable and access to the object is not synchronized. I have tested this code extensively with multithreaded access and cannot reproduce the exception in a test environment.
Furthermore, this bug only occurs on Linux.
As a workaround, we have a loop that will attempt the call 5 times, and then fail if the call could not be completed. Generally, this helps to get the code running but will sometimes fail.
Here are some characteristics of the problem:
1) Linux kernel 2.4.10 on Pentium III.
2) Sun JVM 1.3.1_01
3) Code is accessed from a session bean deployed into JBoss 2.4.3.
4) Database entities have undergone bytecode enhancement per JDO specification.
Obviously, the bytecode enhancement is most suspect here. The class that contains the error-prone code is not enhanced, but entities do contain references to instances of the primary key class.
At first blush this sounds like a classic memory corruption issue that is surfacing in Long.toString() but is probably caused elsewhere. Has anybody seen anything like this or know of either a solution or suggested debugging procedure?
Thanks.
-brian

We already discussed that approach. The reason that
it was rejected is because my C experience suggests
that it will just move the corruption evidence to another
area of the application with possibly more insidious
effects.I'm not so sure about that. Does your five-try loop actually help? If a stateless method throws an IndexOutOfBoundsException with a given set of parameters, then I would expect it to always throw this exception with the same parameters. Any other behaviour is non-deterministic and not suitable (IMHO) for a production machine.
I assume you are manipulating arrays in other locations of your code... if these other locations aren't displaying similar non-deterministic behaviour, then common sense dictates that writing your own toString method will not exhibit the same non-deterministic behaviour.
A little test, compile a class (TestLong, for argument sake) with the method exactly from the Sun source. Decompile it to byte-code with 'javap -c TestLong', and compare that to the same method from Long with 'javap -c java.lang.Long'. If the bytecode isn't identical (Barring numbering differences for class reference table differences), then the implementation you have is not the expected.
A final suggestion, try a different JVM - both IBM and Sun provide JVMs for linux?

I would have long ago moved on to a new version of Logic, but I have the equipment (UAD-1 and Liquid Mix), which are not run on the Loqic X. So I would suggest to make a bridge in Logic X. As it was in version 9 of the Logic.

In addition.. Focusrite have stated they will not be releasing a 64bit version of Liquid Mix as they consider it outdated software these days.... even though at one point a limited release beta version had a 64bit AU version included but it was so unstable it was rapidly dropped...
However the 32bit to 64bit bridge plugin 32 Lives,  states it will handle and 'convert' the Stereo version of Liquid Mix to 64bit but not the Mono version... within LPX

Finally, like others here, I would be extremely surprised if Apple added 32bit AU support back into LPX..  That '32bit tech' is long dead and gone....in terms of modern DAWs... as it is in other DAWs such as the recent PT versions...

• IPod touch home button takes a bit longer to work

My iPod 3G's home button responds a bit longer.I realised this when I clicked the home buttons of my sister's 3G touch and mine at the same time.It takes like a second to respond on mine wile on my sister's it takes less than a second. I kind of noticed this even before i updated to iOS 4.

iOS 4 does tend to run slower on an older iPod. About the only thing to try, is a reboot and/or restore and make sure you don't have app(s) running in the background using CPU power. I bought an app called System that works like an Activity Monitor on a Mac. It gives you a lot of information on what is going on under the hood.

When I downloaded the CAN device drivers and installed the package, the sub VIs did not show up in the tool bar when I ran LabVIEW. However, when I look in the (x86) version files I see the CAN folder installed in the 64 bit program files directory!  Should I uninstall the current version and reinstall the 64 bit verson to fix this CAN problem, or is there another way to fix this
You got it mixed up here. Microsoft decided that Program Files is always meant to mean the native version, which means that for Windows 64 bit, any 64 Bit applications get installed there. Program Files (x86) is for 32 Bit applications that will run inside the Win32 subsystem in Win64. Most NI Toolkit and driver installers only install into 32 Bit. So if you use LabVIEW 64 Bit you will usually have to copy the files from the Program Files (x86) directory into the according Program Files directory, making sure you maintain the same hierarchy.

• Firefox on Win 7 64 bit is a big memory hogger; on Win 8.1 32 bit, it's not

As above; I have several PCs, on two of which I use FF regularly. One PC has Win 7 64-bit as OS while the other has Win 8.1 32-bit as OS.
I noticed that Firefox on Win 7 64-bit is a big memory hogger, sometimes eating up more than 2GB of RAM and obviously getting into an overflow of some sort after prolonged use. It essentially has some problem regarding memory or chache management, as closing tabs does not lower RAM consumption. It is not possible to leave FF open for days without experiencing this error. In Task Manager, I noticed that when the overflow occurs, FF keeps increasing its memory consumption.
On Win 8.1 32-bit, the above problem does not exist. Closing tabs lowers memory consumption, an overflow does not occur, and leaving the window open for days does not affect performance.
Can anyone help?

Memory leaks are almost always caused by plugins or add-ons. These leaks can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from mozilla.org (or choose the download for your operating system and language from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu and click the close button ).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
#*Windows:
#**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
#**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Installing Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.
<b>WARNING:</b> Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. <u>These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!</u> See Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles. <!-- Starting in Firefox 31, the Firefox uninstaller no longer lets you remove user profile data.Ref: Bug 432017 and https://support.mozilla.org/kb/uninstall-firefox-from-your-computer/discuss/5279 [Fx31] Windows uninstaller will no longer offer the option to remove personal data -->

• There is a version for Linux Debian Labview 2011?

Hello ...
I am developing a remote service and one of the objectives is that this database is a server with Debian operating system, I searched the LabView 2011 for Debian GNU / Linux and have not found it, if anyone knows? Also of LabVIEW Datalogging and Supervisory Control also for this operating system?
Or any way I can develop my service in windows and then perform a type of application that runs very well considering my database with this server?
Thank you very much and see you soon

I have not tried Labview for Linux on Debian (You really need to mention the version). You could try it and see if it works. Note, Labview for Linux only runs 32 bit. The compatibility issue is highly dependen on your 32 bit library.
Even though NI keep saying they are going to support Linux  more, I notice they keep saying it for years but heir support is not very good.
I suggest you do a client server relationship. You could install a client software on Windows  (you did not mention the type of data base to be used, files, postgres, mysql, hadoop, etc). The client support for windows is dependent on your client support.
Another alternative is to use Network Shared variables. You can host it on the Windows machine and use tcp/ip to fetch the data directly from the  windows machine. There are many choices. The information you provide is mininal at best.

• 32-bit Siebel 7.7 and 7.8 Web Client on 64-bit Windows Vista

Hello all,
do you think it is possible to successfully install the 32-bit Siebel Web Client (version 7.7 and 7.8) on Windows Vista 64-bit ?
I'm running Siebel client software against an Oracle 9i database. In fact, my Oracle client is version 10g (32-bit). But it works fine. Even with non-Oracle software.
I succeeded in installing the 32-bit Siebel Tools (7.7/7.8) on my 64-bit Vista. Just had to prevent the installer from putting the software into the default folder which is "C:\Program Files (x86)". Using the default folder resulted in the Tools being not able to locate the Oracle tnsnames.ora file. I created my own C:\PRG folder instead. So for example, I now have "C:\PRG\Siebel\7.7\Tools" for Siebel Tools 7.7.
I hoped this method would work for Siebel Web/Developer client 7.7/7.8 as well. But it didn't. In the middle of the installation process, the installer told me it could not locate MDAC and rolled the whole thing back.
I googled a bit around and found that Windows Vista do not use MDAC any more. It uses "Windows Data Access Components" (Windows DAC) instead. But I also checked my "C:\Program Files" and "C:\Program Files (x86)" folders and found that, for example, msado15.dll and msadoXY.tlb (which is a part of that MDAC/DAC stuff) is there, both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
So my question is:
How can you make the Siebel Web Client installer think that MDAC is in place and find it there (in the 32-bit folder, of course)?
I'll welcome any help.
Thanks,
Pavel Foltyn

First of you need to make sure you have the right versions of Siebel installed. Only the newest versions work in high interactivity mode with IE 7.0 and Windows Vista.
Have a look at:
Support for Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) (Doc ID 475275.1)
on Metalink 3.
Geting that to work with the Vista 64-bit, is more then pushing it.
Just my 2 cent.

• I can no longer add album art work in iTunes version 10.6.0.40

WHY can I no longer add album art work in iTunes version 10.6.0.40? It is maddening. I have checked many boards and discussion groups but no one has a sure fix. Why is Apple not tending to this problem? They of all groups should know the importance of how something looks.

I had the the same problem albeit with an m4v (same hardware and OS rev too!, iTunes 10.6.3). I was able to add the movie to a new library per Limnos' suggestion here, indicating that iTunes wasn't totally busted. However, I was also able to see the movie in the Recently Added smart playlist (another hat tip to Limnos), although it still did not appear in the Movies section of my iTunes library. (It was also in the iTunes Library.xml file.)
So I called AppleCare, and they directed me to move the file from the external drive where it was living, into the /Users/<Your Name Here>/Movies directory, and to "Add to Library" (Command-O) from that location. Sure enough (and much to my surprise), it showed up immediately (duplicated, actually) in the Movies section of my iTunes library. Subsequent additions to my Library have not misbehaved similiarly.
