No access on global variables in sequence calls
Hello,
I have the following problem:
I don't have access on global variables (Fileglobals.xx) in subsequences.
I had access on the global variables until I add a big array to the global variables.
Is this the reason for that strange behavior?
thank you for your help
Samuel
Hello Ray,
1)
I had two string arrays with: array1[0....11][0...800], array2[0...6][0.....400]
until this everything was ok
then I increased the array1 to array1[0....11][0...1200]
from this point I had the problem
2)
No the subsequences are in the same sequence file
3)
I am using teststand 3.1
would it be better for this probelm to use teststand 3.5?
Thank You for your help
regards
Samuel

Hi
I have build an Labview project with FPGA target . I have configured an FPGA VI and an host Vi to acquire data and logged the data to a file and stored the latest data in a global variable simultanously. I have configured one more VI in the same project to access the global variable. I have build a dll to access both the VI as functions in LabWindows/CVI code. My task in CVI is to update configured GUI with latest data periodically and run the host VI continously for a long time and log the data to a file. GUI should update for every one second with latest data for this I am using the second VI in which I am accessing the global varibale in which the latest data has been stored in host VI.Duplicate Post (go here)

How do you override global variable values when calling oraxsl or xsl.exe?
I am a newbie to oracle xslt.
I have down loaded the latest version of xdk (10.1.0.2...). (Jan 2, 2009).
In the past I haveI used micorsoft's "msxsl.exe" to perform my transformations.
I am looking for a more up-to-date transformation tool.
I found Oracle's version, and thought I would try it out.
I have run the "bin/xsl.exe -hh" command.
I read its help data. It states that variables are
passed by coding a pramater "-V <var> <value>".
I have also examined the oraxls.bat file.
I found the documentation on "oracle.xml.parser.v2.oraxsl" class.
It states that parameters are passed after the "-p" switch.
It says the value of the -p parameter is "a list of paramemters".
I don't find this sufficient information to be useful.
I can spend days guessing, and I might get lucky.
I thought it my be better to ask for help.
I need to pass in (override) values for 3 global variables.
I saw the method
"setParam(namespace, variable, value)",
near the documentation for the "oraxsl" class.
How do you format the options string to communicate more than one param statement?
(in either xsl.exe and/or oraxsl class).
Suppose I have an xslt stylesheet as follows:
==================================================
<?xml version="1.0" ?>
<xsl:stylesheet version="1.1" xmlns:xsl='http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform' >
<xsl:param name='a' select='"default_a"' />
<xsl:param name='b' select='"default_b"' />
<xsl:param name='c' select="'default_c"' />
<xsl:template match='/'>
this is value for a: <xsl:value-of select='$a' />
this is value for b: <xsl:value-of select='$b' />
this is value for c: <xsl:value-of select=$c' />
<xsl:apply-templates />
</xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>
========================================================
Now as part of the calling of the XSL processor I want to change the value of these
three global parameters.
I want:
a="current_a",
b="current_b",
and c="current_c"
How do I express this using xsl.exe and its paramter string (-V ????).
and/or how do I express it to the oraxsl class ( -p (xsl, a,"current_a"), (....) )???
The syntax for specifying this information is not very clear in either situation.
Of course I am making the "assumption" that by "param" they are
refering to "global parameters" (as in my stylesheet), rather than some other global parameters of XLST.
As an aside inquiry:
I had hopped that the Oracle's xsl Verion 2 routine could handle xslt 2.0 commands
such as "xsl:for-each-group", since it handled multiple xsl:outputs.
From reading some of the documentation it seems it only handles xslt 1.0 syntax/commands.
Is this true? (or is the documentation not up-to-date?).
Any help on passing param values to xsl.exe and/or "oraxsl" class is appreciated.
Thanks.Here is the line from one of my testing .bat files that passed in one parameter. I can't recall if I've passed in two, but this will give you a starting point for passing in multiple
java -cp %CPath% oracle.xml.parser.v2.oraxsl -p show_image='yes' %ValXML% %ValXSLT% As for XSLT 2.0 support, it appears it does per {thread:id=503445} -
Urgent: How access itab n variable in my calling program?
I am working on report 'A' .
I am calling Custom Report 'B' from my report 'A'.
I can not edit report 'B'.
I am calling report 'B' from report 'A' as below.
submit B and return.
I have to write code in my report 'A' on Internal table and variable decared in report 'B' .
So plz tell me how to access itab n variable in my report 'A' which is declared in report 'B'Check diffrent type of SUBMIT
Basic forms:
1. SUBMIT rep.
2. SUBMIT (name).
Extras:
1. ... LINE-SIZE col
2. ... LINE-COUNT line
3. ... TO SAP-SPOOL List output to the SAP spool database
4. ... USING SELECTION-SCREEN scr
5. ... VIA SELECTION-SCREEN
6. ... AND RETURN
7. ... EXPORTING LIST TO MEMORY
8. ... USER user VIA JOB job NUMBER n
9. ...Various additions for passing parameters to rep
10. ... USING SELECTION-SETS OF PROGRAM prog
Effect
Calls report rep.
The system leaves the active program and starts the new report rep. In basic form 2, you can specify the name of the report in the field name. You must specify the name in uppercase, otherwise a runtime error occurs.
Note
You can only start programs with type '1' using SUBMIT. If the program has a different type, the system triggers a runtime error.
Please consult Data Area and Modularization Unit Organization documentation as well.
Addition 1
... LINE-SIZE col
Effect
The list generated by the report has the line width col.
Addition 2
... LINE-COUNT line
Effect
The list generated by the report has line lines per page.
Addition 4
... USING SELECTION-SCREEN scr
Effect
When you execute the report, the system uses the selection screen number that you specify in the scr field. This must be a selection screen defined using the SELECT-OPTIONS, PARAMETERS and SELECTION-SCREEN statements.If you omit the addition, the system uses the standard selection screen 1000.
This addition allows you to start the same report in different situations, using a different selection screen each time.
Notes
The addition VIA SELECTION SCREEN determines whether the report is processed in the foreground or the background.
What happens if the required screen does not exist or is not a selection screen?
Screen 1000:
If you want to use the standard selection screen (... USING SELECTION-SCREEN 1000 or do not specify a ... USING SELECTION-SCREEN) addition, the system does not process a selection screen.
Other selection screens:
The system triggers a runtime error.
Addition 5
... VIA SELECTION-SCREEN
Effect
The selection screen is displayed. In this case, the selection screen is displayed again after the report list has been displayed. The values entered by the user remain displayed.
Addition 6
... AND RETURN
Effect
Returns to the calling transaction or program after the called program has been executed. SUBMIT ... AND RETURN creates a new internal session.
Addition 7
... EXPORTING LIST TO MEMORY
Effect
Does not display the output list of the called report, but saves it in ABAP memory and leaves the called report immediately. Since the calling program can read the list from memory and process it further, you need to use the addition ... AND RETURN . Also, since the called report cannot be requested for printing, the addition ... TO SAP-SPOOL is not allowed here. In addition, you must not assign a function code to the ENTER key in the current GUI status. The saved list is read from the SAP memory using the function module 'LIST_FROM_MEMORY' and can then be saved to the database using EXPORT, for example. You can process this list further with the function modules 'WRITE_LIST', 'DISPLAY_LIST' ... of the function group "SLST".
Addition 8
... USER user VIA JOB job NUMBER n
Effect
Schedules the specified report in the job specified by the job name job and the job number n. The job runs under the user name user and you can omit the addition USER user. The assignment of the job number occurs via the function module JOB_OPEN (see also the documentation for the function modules JOB_CLOSE and JOB_SUBMIT). This addition can only be used with the addition ...AND RETURN.
Note
When scheduling a report with the SUBMIT ... VIA JOB job NUMBER n statement, you should always use the addition ...TO SAP-SPOOL to pass print and/or archive parameters. Otherwise, default values are used to generate the list and this disturbs operations in a production environment.
SY-SUBRC = 0:
Job scheduled successfully
SY-SUBRC = 4:
Job scheduling terminated by user
SY-SUBRC = 8:
Error in job scheduling (JOB_SUBMIT)
SY-SUBRC = 12:
Error in internal number assignment
Addition 10
... USING SELECTION-SETS OF PROGRAM prog
Effect
Uses variants of the program prog when executing the program rep.
Note
Important
The programs prog and rep must have the same SELECT-OPTIONS and PARAMETERs. Otherwise, variants of the program prog may be destroyed.
Note
When using this addition, the specified variant vari of the program prog is taken in USING SELECTION-SET vari. On the other hand, all variant-related actions on the selection screen of rep (Get, Save as variant, Display, Delete) refer to the variants of prog.
Example
SUBMIT REPORT01
VIA SELECTION-SCREEN
USING SELECTION-SET 'VARIANT1'
USING SELECTION-SETS OF PROGRAM 'REPORT00'
AND RETURN.
Effect
Executes the program REPORT01 with the variant VARIANT1 of the program REPORT00.
Exceptions
Non-Catchable Exceptions
Cause: The specified program was not found.
Runtime Error: LOAD_PROGRAM_NOT_FOUND
Cause: Invalid value passed to a selection with SIGN.
Runtime Error: SUBMIT_WRONG_SIGN
Cause: The specified program is not a report.
Runtime Error: SUBMIT_WRONG_TYPE
Cause: More than one value passed to a report parameter.
Runtime Error: SUBMIT_IMPORT_ONLY_PARAMETER
Cause: Table passed to a selection with WITH sel IN itab that has an unexpected structure.

Accessing a Global package variable Via Select
Hi All,
I want to access a global variable i.e package global variable through a select query. Is this possible or not possible. Please share some inputs on this.
ThanksJust to clarify that you can reference the global variable if your SQL is itself within PLSQL. It will be bound in.
CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE p1
AS
my_global NUMBER := 1;
FUNCTION f_get_my_global
RETURN NUMBER;
PROCEDURE p_do_something;
END;
CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY p1
AS
FUNCTION f_get_my_global
RETURN NUMBER
AS
BEGIN
RETURN my_global;
END;
PROCEDURE p_do_something
AS
l1 NUMBER;
BEGIN
SELECT /*+ find_me */
my_global
INTO l1
FROM DUAL;
END;
END;
SQL> exec p1.p_do_something;
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
SQL> select sql_text from v$sql where sql_text like '%find_me%';
SQL_TEXT
SELECT /*+ find_me */ :B1 FROM DUAL

Accessing global variables in a BAdI
How can we access the global variables of a program from a BAdI ?The BAdI does not have that particular variable as a part of it's importing/exporting parameter.The BAdI gets triggered at a particular point in the program.The name of the BAdI is /SAPAPO/SDP_SELECTOR and the transaction is /SAPAPO/SDP94(Demand Planning: APO).
Thanks,
SavithaHi,
Try to export the variable to memory id or use database memory id.
Like this.
Export l_vbeln to memory id 'ZTEST'.
you can give any name instead of ZTEST.
or u can export to database memory id
EXPORT tab = lt_vbkd
TO DATABASE indx(V1)
FROM ls_indx ID 'ZTEST'.

Build stand-alone application with Global variable
Question:
how to build a VI access a global variable into a standalone EXE file?
there are multiple VIs access to one Global variable, one of the VIs need to run in background to update the Global variable, whick i built into EXE file.
the rest VI will be called in from Teststand to retrieve the Global variable.
the global variable is updated if i run the background VI in labview, but after i build it into EXE file, it seems the global is not updated even the EXE running OK.Hi,
Do you actually need to have an executable.
If you can call your global variable updater VI as a VI form, then your other VI's will still beable to see the Global variable.
You can launch you global variable updater VI in a new thread or execution so that it runs in the background and returns back to TestStand sequence so you can continue on with the rest of your tests.
Remember to close your global updater VI before you complete your test sequence run.

What is the best way to retrive data from a Global Variable?
Here is what I want to do,
I have several PC's that run different types of tests. I want to use a global variable, running on a single PC, that acts like a sever that can be accessed by the other PC's in my lab. This Global variable will store the hostnames of the different PC's that are currently running each test, along with a description of the test. Then, a user can access this Global variable to read the different values and select the PC and connect to it's desktop using Remote Desktop in Windows.
Is it possible to write data to the Global variable that is running on the single PC?
What is the best way to do this? Does anyone have a sample VI?
What is the best way to then read the data from the Global variable?
(I will probably use an array\cluster to store the hostnames.)Another pre-LV8 idea...
A functional global can be accessed using VI-Server and called using "call by reference".
This approach harnesses the TCP functionality built into the VI-Server to manage the conncetion.
This can be pretty quick and (if the functional global is written correctly) will support buffered- mixed data types. (Try to do that with the Shared Variable ).
Just another idea,

You
can't access LabVIEW globals directly from a caller to the LabVIEW DLL.
However there is no problem in providing specific accessor VI functions
to that global and export them as additional functions from the DLL.

Replacing 20 fixstatements by Global Variable - Problem 255 bytes length
Hello,
we have an issue in businessrules with setting the fix statement on 1 dimension:
we currently use Fix (@RELATIVE("CBU_ALL",0) ) - on level 0 are approx. 3000 members - on medium level are 20 CBUs Seat and 20 CBUs Door
we have approx. 20-30 similar businessrules - which either calculate on seat or door CBUs
the requirement is to either calculate with a rule the 20 CBUs for Seats or the 20 CBUs for Doors
as we currently do not fix properly on either Seat or Door CBUs, we calculate approx. 1500 empty members (empty, if fix in another dimension done correctly) - tests showed, that this doubles the time which would be needed.
I know we could easily set 20 fixes in each business rule:
@RELATIVE("CBU_BMW_Seat",0)
....20 more....
@RELATIVE("CBU_Ford_Seat",0)
(the fix above would then exclude the 1500 members, which are below:
@RELATIVE("CBU_BMW_Doors",0)
....20 more....
@RELATIVE("CBU_Ford_Doors",0)
unfortunately, the number of CBUs/Customers is frequently renamed or some are added, so I can not afford to built these 20 fixstatements into 20 different businessrules and maintain them all the time.
I thought of using UDAs or Attribute Values -
but it seems not to be possible in a fixstatment to combine a relative or Children fixstatement with UDAs, which are set on the upper member ?
I assume it works, if I classify all 3000 level 0 members with UDA or attribute SEATS or DOORS - but that's inefficient
@RELATIVE("CBU_BMW_Seat",0) AND @UDA(CBU,"SEATS")
@CHILDREN("CBU_BMW_Seat") AND @UDA(CBU,"SEATS")
@Descendants("CBU_BMW_Seat") AND @UDA(CBU,"SEATS")
@UDA(CBU,"SEATS")
generally, it seems not to be allowed to combine Children or descendant fixes with any other relations or conditions ?
@CHILDREN(@Match(CBU," Seat") ) (attempt to search for all children of all CBUs with Seat in its name)
So the idea is to define 2 global variables:
1 for Seats and 1 for Doors:
[SEAT] includes then then: @children("CBU_BMW_Seat") ... 20 more @children("CBU_Ford_Seat")
advantage would be, we can maintain the list of CBUs in 1 place
my problem is: length of global variable is limited to 255 bytes - I need 800 to 900 digits to define the 20 CBUs
having 8 global variables instead of 40 CBUs referenced in Fixstatements is not really an advantage
even if I would rename the CBUs to just S1,S2,S3,S4 D1,D2,D3 (S for Seat, D for Door) (and use aliases in Planning and Reporting with full name to have the right meaning for the users), it does not fit into 1 variable: @children("S1"), @Children("S2"), ..... is simply too long (still 400 digits)
also other attempts to make the statement shorter, failed:
@children(@list("CBU_BMW_Seat","CBU_Ford_Seat",.....)) is not allowed
is there any other idea of using global variables, makros, sequences ?
is there a workaround to extend global variable limit ? we have release 9.3.1 - is this solved in future releases ?
are there any other commands, which I can combine in clever way in fixstatements with
@relative
@children
@descendants
with things like @match @list ?
(Generation and Level are no approrate criteria for Separating Seat and Doors, as the hierarchy is the same)
please understand, that as we use this application for 5 years with a lot of historic data and it's a planning application with a lot of webforms and financial reports, and all the CBU members are stored members with calculated totals and access rights and setup data on upper members,
I can not simply re-group the whole cbu structure and separate Seats and Doors just for calculation performance
CBU dimension details is like this:
Generation:
1 CBU_ALL
2 CBU_BMW
3 CBU_BMW_Seat
4 Product A
4 Product B
..... hundreds more
3 CBU_BMW_Door
4 Product C
4 Product D
.... hundreds more
2 CBU_Ford
3 CBU_Ford_Seat
4 Product E
4 Product F
.... hundreds more
3 CBU_Ford_Doors
4 Product G
4 Product H
.... hundreds more
20 more CBUs with below 20 CBUs Seat and 20 CBUs DoorHow hard would it be to insert 2 children under CBU_All? Name them CBU_Seats and CBU_Doors, then group all the Seats and Doors under them.
Then your calc could be @Relative(CBU_Doors, 0).
I know it's not always easy or feasible to effect change to a hierarchy, but I just had the thought.

Global variable are not assigned to other files
Hello
I have defined & assigning some values to Global files in one of the project files, But the same i am not able to read in other files of the same project.
i have defined as 'extern int x ' in one file & also called in other file by defining 'extern int x'
let me know if you more info needed
HussainHello
I am trying to implement this in my program .. but assigning the Global variable is not working
NOTE: I am using LABWINDOWS CVI 5. (Old version)
/////***Test 1 contents****///
extern ViInt32 A= 0; // Assigning ‘0’ to Global variables
extern ViInt32 B= 0;
extern ViInt32 C= 0;
extern ViInt32 D= 0;
if (revision = =1)
A=Confirm Popup (“Verifiy”,"Does this unit also have hardware A”);
///*** end of Test 1 ***//
If I am trying the access above global variable to Test 5 or some other test program within same project
/////***Test 5 contents****///
If (A)
printf (“the Hardware mod is REV A”);
Else
Printf(“NO Hardware mod find”);
//*** end of Test 5 ***//
Now the query is whichever option (YES OR NO) in the confirm POPUP in Test 1. I am getting the output: “NO Hardware mod find”
The reason is the Global Variable is not passing. -
Problem with .DLL and global variables
Hi,
I need some helps to figure out my problem.
I wrote a .dll file to open and run a GUI. When I run it at the first time, it is ok. When I call it again, there is an error "Pointer to free memory passed to library. It will be ok if I completely exit the program that calls the .dll before re-call it. I think there is some problems with global variables when I call another thread. How can I free global variables between threads. Is there any solution for this problem?
ThanksVinh Pham:
Are you doing anything intentionally that frees your globals?
CVI ships with an example program that demonstrates calling a DLL to create a user interface: guidll.cws.
I made two simple modifications to guidll.cws.
1. In guidll.c, I made hpanel global by moving its declaration from RunDLLUI() to right below the #include statements.
2. In useguidll.c, I duplicated the lines calling RunDLLUI () and MessagePopup() to call the DLL gui twice.
I built the project and ran it. I had no problems with free'ed globals.
Take a look at the guidll example.
Can you either post your code or a modification to guidll that demonstrates the problem you're having? -
How do I add a global variable to my app?
Hi all,
I am building a flex app which displays data in different tabs from a mysql database and I wan't to add a sign in process to make sure only registered users of the mysql db can see the data.
To achieve this I built a sign in component which accepts a username, password and the name of the database to connect to. My flex app then uses a php script to verify that the user can connect to the database using the details entered. If not, the sign in component displays an error message, but if sign in details are verified then the user can see the data from the database.
How can I store the details in the flex app for that users session so that when the user queries the db for data, flex uses the details entered during the sign in process to connect to the mysql db and submit the query?
I thought about storing the details as an array in a global variable and then accessing that global variable from anywhere in my app but I don't know if that is the correct/secure way to do what I want, nor do I know how to do it. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
xanderquick, dirty example, could be improved on but it'll get you rolling;
After user login has succeeded, send off another HTTP service eg;
========
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
public var whateverUserNameWasEntered:String;
public var whateverUserPasswordEntered:String;
public function onLoginSuccess():void
whateverUserNameWasEntered:String = loginbox.text;
whateverUserPasswordEntered:String = passwordbox.text;
storeSessionStuff.send();
]]>
</mx:Script>
<mx:HTTPService id="storeSessionStuff" showBusyCursor="true" method="POST" url="http://localhost/store.php" useProxy="false">
<mx:request xmlns="">
<username>
{whateverUserNameWasEntered}
</username>
<password>
{whateverUserPasswordEntered}
</password>
</mx:request>
</mx:HTTPService>
========
direct it to the php file.....
<?php
session_start();
$_SESSION['username'] = $_POST['username'];
$_SESSION['password'] = $_POST['password'];
?>
Then, whenever you want to get the information out of the Session, send off another HTTP Service...;
<mx:HTTPService id="getSessionStuff" result="storeData(event)" showBusyCursor="true" method="POST" url="http://localhost/get.php" useProxy="false"/>
to the php file....
<?php
session_start();
print "<details><username>".$_SESSION['username']."</username><password>".$_SESSION['password'] ."</password></details>";
?>
which, you need a result function for:
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
private function storeData(evt:ResultEvent):void
var username:String;
var password: String;
username = evt.result.details.username;
password = evt.result.details.password;
]]>
</mx:Script>

Functional Global Variable in the CLAD sample Exam
Hello,
A question in the CLAD sample exam #2 keeps puzzling me. It's question number 32 about FGVs:
32. Which is not an important part of creating a Functional Global Variable?
a. Using Shift Registers to store information
b. Changing the VI’s execution settings to Reentrant
c. Setting the VI to inline into calling VIs
d. Setting the While Loop to stop after one iteration
The answer given is the following
32.Correct Answer: B
Topic: Functional Global Variables
Justification: It is not necessary to inline functional global variables into their calling VIs. In fact, inlining requires that the subVI be reentrant, which is forbidden for functional global variables.
Clearly, for an FGV to work properly, the VI must NOT be reentrant. So I would have selected answer B, but the justification seems to clearly point to answer C as well, doesn't it? Is it a typo, a subtlety in the wording? I am stuck on this one!
Solved!
Go to Solution.Well, inlining requires reentrant. Therefore, the best answer should technically be C. This looks like one of those rejected/retired questions since it isn't quite right and/or left up to too much interpretation.
There are only two ways to tell somebody thanks: Kudos and Marked Solutions
