No Airport activity on wake from sleep (but only when opening the lid)

I've read a lot of discussions dealing with wi-fi issues, but none seems to match my own problem.
I purchased a MBP 13" 2.4 GHz mid 2010 a few weeks ago and I'm running SL 10.6.3. I connect to the internet via a Time Capsule ethernet connected to a D-Link DSL 300T modem. Everything is updated and running smooth, but on wake from sleep opening the lid there's no way to get Airport working. Most of the times it's inactive, but I can not activate it in System Prefs > Network. Sometimes shows up as active, the Airport icon in menu bar keeps blinking but can't connect to the Time Capsule (whose light stays green all the time). The only way to get it back to work is restarting the MBP. This does never happen if I don't close the lid, though putting my Mac to sleep: on waking Airport works fine.
I'm enclosing the Console log:

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
my MBP 13" Mid 2010 running 10.6.4. has similar problems. I like to use it closed lid connected to an external display with apple usb keyboard. In closed lid mode airport connection fails several times or I do get a poor connection, e.g. one or two curves in the airport menu bar icon with significant lower connection speeds. I do connect to a airport extreme n station with does its job rock solid. as my wife uses a two year old macbook and I have got an G4 with a sonnet airport card running both without problems even from a greater distance in our home it seems to me that the macbook pro has serious problems operating with the internal wifi antenna in closed lid mode, maybe due to shielding from the lid?
Has anybody experienced the same problem or successfully found a way to solve this problem? When using open lid mode wifi problems never occurred, but that's not the preferred option for my desktop table.

  • MacBook won't automatically wake from sleep after flipping computer open.

The only way my computer both goes to sleep and wakes from sleep is by clicking on the Apple icon and putting it to sleep before closing the lid and by pressing the power button after opening the lid. If I just close the lid without first clicking on "Sleep" under the Apple icon, the computer will continue to run and the Apple on the lid will continue to be lit while the sleep indicator light does not go on. If I just open the lid and do not press the power button, the screen will continue to be black and the sleep indicator light continues to glow. I'm not sure if I reset a system preference or something by mistake, but is there a way to fix this? Or is this an indication of a bigger problem?
Additionally, when my computer is asleep and I unplug my charging iPod, it wakes from sleep (the sleep indicator light goes black while the Apple on the back of the screen lights up). Is this an indication of a bigger problem?
My computer is only about 7 months old, so I am a bit worried if it is starting to show wear and tear already. Thank you for your help!

    You're welcome to the Forums.
Go to System Preferences>Energy Saver, and set a time for your System to sleep.
Set both sliders to 10 or 15mins to nod off, when Inactive.
It's never a good idea to plug in or out, while the Computer is sleeping. If someone pokes at your ear while you're sleeping, you'll wake up too.

  • Airport issue upon wake from sleep

When my mac pro wakes from sleep it connects to my preffered wireless network but it has some serious issues and doesn't work. When it restarts the airport icon shows connected, but mysteriously shows a weak signal and when I try to do anything that needs to talk to the network it fails. The only way to fix the issue is turn airport off then on again and hey presto I'm back on a full signal and can surf n stuff.
I'm using a 1st gen Airport Express N basestation, which works fine as I have 5 other macs in the house (non a mac pro) that don't have the issue.
Looking in my logs i see a few interesting things, it looks like when the system is woken up it sets the country code to X3 and then fails to get a proper link. When I restart airport it sees the network uses GB as the country.
I can't be the only person with this problem.

  • Kernel Panic on wake from sleep (iPhone only)

After trying to upgrade to Mavericks a few weeks ago I found out that my hard drive had failed.  I took it into the store and they replaced the hard drive.  Now, with the new hard drive also having Mavericks, I have been having kernel panics when I try to wake it up.  I always plug my phone into my computer when I am sleeping to charge it.  When I wake up and attempt to wake my computer up there is always a kernel panic (and I mean, literally, always) and I have to hard reset the computer.  This doesn't happen when I wake it from sleep after work (when my phone has not been plugged into it) so I kind of came to the conclusion that it was an issue with having my phone plugged into it while it is sleeping.  Obviously, the easy answer is to just plug my phone into the wall to charge it, but I would rather address the issue I am having rather than just finding a workaround.  Here is the last log from the kernel panic I had this morning if it helps.

Ok, so I guess it is not a kernel panic.  I was under the impression that's what it was.  Under System Diagnostic Messages I have that same log from almost every day since I got my computer back.
Any ideas what would be causing that?  As far as plugging my phone into a separate charger, I will do that if it is the only option.  I know that this was never an issue before upgrading to Mavericks, so I figure it is something to do with Mavericks, not the computer itself.  Maybe I am wrong though and plugging the phone into a separate charger is the only option.

  • Airport issue after wake from sleep (lion)

With 10.6, this was not a problem. With Lion, very often after wake up from sleep mode, the system is unable to reconnect to my airport extreme base station. Killing the prefs in the library did not help. Any suggestions?

My wife's Macbook has EXACTLY the same problem and I've been through dozens of suggestions trying to fix it and the problem still persists.
The problem started right after I upgraded to Snow Leopard but also installed an Airport Extreme router and WPA2 wireless encryption. I've deleted all the networks, changed the order to put the Airport as the highest preference, deleted all the keys on the keychain, ran DiskUtility, all to no avail.
I'm not sure if this is somehow related to the Airport Extreme or occurs with any router. Also, have another MacBook Pro (unibody), and it does't have this problem connecting to the same Airport Extreme.
The other factor is it is intermittent --- and doesn't always fail. Rebooting the Macbook or the router will get it to re-connect, as will shutting off and turning on the Airport several times. But that's not a solution to the problem.
Apple needs to pay attention to this as many people are now reporting the problem.

  • MBP Won't wake from sleep but shouldn't BE asleep

    Hi,
I have a couple MBP's giving me trouble. They both are 2011 8,2 MBPs, running 10.9 and have Crucial SSDs installed.  Other similar machines and configurations are fine afaik.
They are set to not sleep when power is connected. The hard drives are set to not sleep.  Displays are set to go dark after about 15 minutes. Screen savers are set to never turn on.
Sometimes, about once every week or two, when the user goes back to his computer after the display has gone dark, nothing seems to wake it up.  The keyboard and mouse and mousepad do nothing.  Pressing the power button does nothing; holding it in for a few seconds and force-rebooting finally snaps it back to life.  I assume it's powered on and in some sort of deep sleep from which it cannot awaken since the power button does not work unless we hold it in.  While in this state remote desktop shows the machines as being "offline," not "sleeping."
I've seen threads about MBPs not waking but since these are set to not sleep in the first place, I'm perplexed.
I've reset the SMC and the PRAM (btw, does pram even do anything anymore? if not, why is it still there?)
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Does this problem still exist in the newer versions of the OWC firmware?
While my SSD is not an OWC, I've been having this issue with my OCZ Vertex 2, also based on the Sandforce chip.
OCZ's most recent firmware (1.32) has fixed the issues related to hibernation (i.e. "safe-sleep") but the drive still has issues waking from timed inactivity sleep.
I wrote about it on their support forums in this thread:
    http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?86538-Hibernation-works-b ut-wake-from-auto-timer-sleep-problem-still-present-in-1.32
One of their support staff (who has been very helpful in ironing out the hibernation problems) replied with:
"I can tell you this new FW build has been fully validated by Apple at their labs, it may be possible your machine while fine with hdd may have an issue with newer ssd...or the line of macbooks with this issue are looking now for an efi update.
I will pass this back to SF but I suggest you also contact Apple and ask if a new EFI update is coming."
While my machine doesn't often sleep due to inactivity, it does happen. I am not a fan of the suggestion to set inactivity sleep to never. While this is a way around the problem, I don't consider it a solution—I would like the security of knowing that if I ever walked away from my machine on battery power for a few hours, I would be able to return to something that hasn't completely drained itself of battery.

  • Imac wakes from sleep but is unresponsive

My i5 imac with 10.6.8 has recently and randomly started being unresponsive upon waking from sleep. it does not happen all of the time and I can't find a combo of apps or other events that cause the issue to happen. it's only been in the last few weeks and the only changes I've made are the installation of spotify, update of flash and update of pdf reader.
When my imac is asleep I can press a key on the keyboard or move the magic mouse and the screen wakes right up. the mouse cursor moves around the screen but nothing is clickable and no keyboard commands work. if my laptop is connected via disk sharing I can continue to access the files, it's like everything is fine but I can't give input. the dock doesn't pop up and I can't force quit anything. I ran disk utility and it suggested I restart from the dvd and repair the disk. after doing that the HD continues to test fine, when I verify it there are no errors or other things that need fixing. I've reset NVRAM several times and the problem persists. a hard reset is my only way to regain control and then the computer will work fine for anywhere from hours to days. Everything I search for seems to be a different version sleep issues. I have no video distortion, no other problems. can anyone help me out?
    thanks!!
    Mark

    Howdy there Mark,
I would suggest a few steps here.
First I would start with resetting the SMC on the computer with this article Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) found here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Resetting the SMC for Mac Pro, Intel-based iMac, Intel-based Mac mini, or Intel-based Xserve
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
Then reset the PRAM if the issue is not resolved:
    About NVRAM and PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
I would also perform a safeboot to troubleshoot this as well.
Mac OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • G5 WON'T WAKE FROM SLEEP AND RESTARTS WHEN PUT TO SLEEP

My apologies if I'm posting this in the wrong category. I am having some major problems with my iMac G5 running Tiger. The first problem was that when I put the computer to sleep it would not wake up from sleep.
I took it to the Apple store and they found nothing wrong with it. Now when I try to put the computer to sleep it restarts. I thought maybe I had just pressed the restart rather than sleep mode by mistake but when I attempted to put it to sleep a second time it restarted just like before.
It's a bizarre problem I know but I'm wondering if you have any ideas as Apple says if they can't get the computer to recreate the error they won't do anything to fix it

Do you have any USB devices connected (other than keyboard and mouse)? If the display has an USB cable, disconnect that too.

  • Xorg hangs and is unkillable, but only when moving the mouse

    Hello everyone!
I have a special problem related to Xorg, my graphics card and my mouse, as it seems.
    My Setup
    I have the following setup:
Archlinux 3.6.2-1-ARCH i686 (everything should be pretty much up-to-date)
Motherboard: Abit BH6 (quite old though)
2 Video Adapters: One 3Dfx Voodoo 3 (rev 01), PCI at 0:f:0 and an ATI Rage 128, AGP at 1:0:0
Standard Microsoft PS/2 Mouse (has been working fine ever since I bought it around 2001!)
    Edit: (forgot to mention)
My BIOS is set up to use the AGP Card to Boot, VGA BIOS Caching, Shadowing and Video RAM Shadowing are disabled alltogether.
    End Edit
I installed Xorg as described in https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xorg. (Please find the contents of my /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-configuration.conf below)

    How to reproduce the problem
I initially had twm installed but now I have gdm, both of which (seem to) show the exact same behavior, when doing the following:
Start Xorg using xinit (or even startx, doesn't make a difference)
    Start your dm, for example:
    gdm dbus-launch gnome-control-center
Move your mouse around a bit, try to login, anything will do, and wait for it to hang up - it never takes longer than a Minute
After that, killing X using signal 15 or 9 won't work, I have to restart my computer to get another try.
The last lines of dmesg are:

    I added
    Option "SWCursor" "true"
to my config, and it didn't seem to make a difference. Do those

  • AirPort dead upon Wake from sleep

I am using a Mac Mini connected to a DSL modem to share its Internet connection over AirPort. I can initially connect to the AirPort network with my laptop, but after the Mini is put to sleep and wakes up its AirPort is no longer functional. The icon shows the grey airport bars with a black arrow indicating internet sharing, but it's not actually on. I choose "Turn off Airport" from the menu bar, but nothing happens. It continues to show that airport is on, but nothing is broadcasting (even my dumb wireless detection keyfob device shows no wireless signals in the vicinity). No amount of fiddling with the airport (through the menu bar, through internet connect, or System Prefs panel) will get it to turn off. Any ideas?

  • MPB Wakes from sleep but then goes right back...

Hey all, having a weird problem since my Lion install. It's happening randomly, with no peripherals attached. I will open my MPB as it has been sleeping closed; the passcode screen will pop up but before I can type, the screen goes black and it goes back to sleep. I press keys, click the trackpad, everything I can think of, but it doesn't respond. When I close the laptop, wait a minute, then reopen, the same thing. The login screen pops up but then blinks out black before I can do anything.
    Any ideas?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Computer wakes from sleep but screen remains black even after restart

So, I installed SL yesterday and everything seemed fine. Last night, I closed my computer's monitor (putting it to sleep) for the night. This morning, when I opened it, the screen was black. I could not see anything, so I just restarted the computer.
On restart, the screen remained black.
After some experimentation, I realized that the computer was actually running, but I just couldn't see anything. So, I typed my password - screen was still black.
I then pressed the power button and enter - shutting down the computer properly.
After it shut down, I turned it on and the screen came on as normal...
    What's going on here?
I checked some other threads and there was some potential issue with the iphoto screensaver, but I am not sure if that is the case here or not.
Any thoughts on how to fix this or prevent it form happening in the future?

I just had a similar thing occur. After resetting the pram the screen came back on.
I had noticed some problems with the hot corners for sleep mode earlier so I have deactivated them now to see if this was the problem. The only other thing I can think of is the recent Java update. I installed it right before the problem occurred.

  • I do a google search from Firefox but it wont open the links

e.g. I just searched new statesman staggers and a whole lot of links came up but none of would open - firefox just hung there. I uninstalled / reinstalled firefox, no better. The same search with MSIE - all links open perfectly.

  • PowerBook won't wake from sleep mode

My PowerBook G4 won't wake from sleep mode. I open the lid and nothing happens. I hold down the power button and nothing happens. I resetted the PMU and it will wake up and I am able to login and then it goes back to sleep mode. What should I do please help? And if my computer is dead, is there any way to retrieve my information saved on the hard drive?

this would happen to me when my battery was dead. you test the battery life? (little button on bottom near battery)
I'd make sure it was plugged in and let it charge for 10 minutes or so. then try restarting it if it doesnt wake up by itself.
