No Audio on iTunes-converted video

I've got a handful of videos in iTunes that I stored on my iPod. However, when I tried to transfer to the iPod, I got a message saying that they were not formatted correctly. I used iTunes for that conversion and all of the audio disappeared.
When I've used 3rd party software to import video before putting into iTunes, the results are fine. Am I going to have to do that with ALL of my files? Or am I flubbing a step (or setting) in iTunes?

iTunes cannot convert Muxed files unless you download a $20 addon for Quicktime. I would use the software you are using now to convert the videos.
However, if iTunes is saying they are not in the right format, then make sure they actually converted (or that iTunes is not saying that for the older, unconverted version).

  • ITunes converts video, drops sound.

Everytime I spend 4+ hours converting a 20 minute video, iTunes cuts out the sound on the video.
Anyone know how to fix this problem?

Quicktime or Quicktime Pro (which iTunes uses) don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
See:iPod plays video but not audio.
You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.

  • Does iTunes convert video

I added many videos to my library converted in the AppleTv friendly format. When trying to add a video to the iphone, an error says video not playable on iPhone (format issue). Does iTunes itself have the ability to re convert video to iPhone playable format? Or does conversion need to be done with 3rd party software? Im surprised iPhone can not play AppleTv video.

Thanks! You say handbrake does the apple universal? I converted video to the applyTv format because it looks good playing on a big screen using the appleTv device. I don't really want to have multiple copies of the same video and also, how to keep iphone separate from appletv video. Would be nice for itunes to add features to do this. Especially since apple devices, ipad/iphone/appletv/etc all use itunes but have their own specific video requirements. Itunes should know if you registered several types of apple devices to your itunes apple account, and when importing video, auto convert to all required device formats. Then when you plug in one device, only supported video for that device is displayed. Also a popup note that "video in other formats exists in the itunes library, but has not been converted. Do you want to convert? yes/no". Itunes then could convert in the background. And auto organize different video formatted items into their own folder in the library.

  • ITunes converting videos at only around 300% CPU?

    Hello all,
I'm converting a ton of videos in iTunes so that I can watch them on my iPod and it's taking forever (1 video every 45 mins or so). I have an iMac quad-core i7 @ 2.8 GHz and it's only using 300% (out of a possible 800) to do the conversion. Does anybody happen to know why there is this limitation in iTunes? Is there a way to have it use 800% (or max possible) instead?
    Thanks!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • ITunes converted videos won't sync to device they were converted for

I have two videos I'm trying to put on an iPhone and an iPad. I loaded the Quicktime movies into iTunes and tried a sync (why not right?) and I get the error "Some of the videos in your iTunes library, including the video "[title of my video]", were not copied to the iPhone "[name of my iphone]" because they cannot be played on this phone." Fair enough. So I used the Advanced -> Create iPod or iPhone Version option, yet when I tried to sync the files it created, they still would not sync, same error. I used the iPad/AppleTV option and was able to sync those videos to my iPad, though they would not sync to the iPhone. I tried using a 3rd party conversion software to make mp4 files but they wouldn't sync either (and happened to be about 4x larger in file size to boot).
So why won't iTunes sync the videos it CREATED specifically for iPhone and iPod to my iPhone? I'm on iTunes 10.0. Is there a format/settings I can use on my conversion tool to get a syncable file?
FYI - the original files are 800x600 (video screen captured Keynote presentation) in Quicktime, H264, Millions of colors, AAC, 2 Channel 44100 Hz, 24 fps, data rate 222kbit/s.

Well, after several tries, even though I got the error message, the files did actually transfer to my iPhone. Still seems weird, but at least it worked.

  • Convert Video files in iTunes but no Audio after converting

Hy, do somebody know what is the matter if i want convert Video files in iTunes (8.01) but after converting the files don't have any audio but i can see the movie perfect in iTunes and on ATV ????

Your likely using muxed video such as mpeg1/mpeg2, which is capable of being played back in QT (with the QT mpeg2 playback component in the case of mpeg2 source video) but not able to be converted.
I could well guess which software you should use to undertake your conversions but it would be better if you could provide details of our source video so that we can suggest an appropriate workflow based on that information.
You can use the Inspector window in QT to see this information.

  • When I convert video files to iPod format in iTunes, it lost audio. Why? :(

  • No Audio When Converting Videos For iPod

whenever i convert video files for my ipod they do not have audio. i have tried several programs, and none work. i have read other discussions about this, and found that MPEG Streamclip worked for other people, however whenever i try to convert using this program, it says "Error: Can't Prepare The Movie" Can anyone tell my why i can't convert these videos? i cannot figure it out. thanks alot.

I am not sure what you mean when you ask what the "compression formats" are.The compression formet refers the manner in which the media was encoded and, by extension, how the media must be decoded. I.e., it determines which codec (encoder/decoder or compressor/decompressor) is to be used with the media file.
If you can tell me where to find those i could tell you what they are. I can, however, play the video in itunes, quicktime, and MPEG Streamclip.Simnce the files are playable in QT, the most common place to look for codec information is in the "Show Movie Info" window following the "Format:" entry. E.g., it might say:
    Format: MPEG2 muxed, 640 x 480orFormat: Apple MPEG4 Decompressor, 320 x 240, millions
    AAC, Stereo, 48,000 kHz
i also am not sure if there is audio in the source file.Do you hear any audio when the original file is played? If not and there is no audio track (or "muxed") information, then there may not be any sound for you to convert in the first place.
how do i find out if it is muxed? If it is "muxed," the format entry we say so. In this case blocks of audio data and blockes of video data are interspersed in a single data stream (track). This is the normal way MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 audio/video data is synchronized. In addition, these formats commonly lose their audio content when converted using QT Pro, iTunes, iMovie, FCE, FCP, or other QT based "frame-to-frame" synchronized workflow. (In the case of MPEG-2 in MPEG Streamclip or QT, the QT MPEG-2 component must also be installed in order to convert the video data alone.)
most of my videos that won't convert for an ipod are downloaded from the internet. how can i find out if they are corrupted or incomplete?Internet files should always be considered suspect -- especially if they come from a peer-to-peer source. Messages that indicated QT cannot open an otherwise fully compatible QT format is often the best indication that there is a corruption problem or that the files were improperly closed at one point or another.
most of my videos that won't convert for an ipod are downloaded from the internet. how can i find out if they are corrupted or incomplete?Normally ypu would post them to a web site or FTP storage area and post the URL. If files were downloadedd from a particular web site (e.g., a QT movie trailer), simply post the URL for the particular web page.

  • No Audio - Converted Video

I have MPG videos with video and audio, so I converted using iTunes Convert Selection for iPod and bought QuickTime Pro 7.1.5 and converted using Movie to AppleTV option. In both instances, the resulting movie has no audio. If I play the original in iTunes, it has both video and audio, but won't sync to AppleTV, so I convert, and now it will sync, but no audio using either method...iTunes or QuickTime Pro. Any suggestions? Thanks!

have MPG videos with video and audio, so I converted using iTunes Convert Selection for iPod and bought QuickTime Pro 7.1.5 and converted using Movie to AppleTV option. In both instances, the resulting movie has no audio. This is normal. At best, "muxed" MPEG-1/MPEG-2 files are only playback compatible with QT/iTunes. The former are based on the spatial synchronization of audio and video data by interspersing akternating blocks of each in a single data stream. QT, on the other hand, is based on "frame-to-frame" temporal sunchronization of audio and video data. In this case, it is best to use an MPEG based third-party conversion application like MPEG Streamclip, VisualHub, FFmpegX, iSquint, or other application compatible with your particular operating system.

  • Converted videos have no audio??

I converted my videos to be formatted to my ipod but when I tried to listen to it the music video had no sound or audio at all.
When I play the video on itunes it doesn't have any sound either but the unconverted video does have audio?

QuickTime expects video files with separate video and audio tracks, but many MPEG formats used a muxed (multiplexed) single track that contains both. Therefore, when you convert videos in iTunes to iPod format they only show the video and no sound since iTunes (really QuickTime) is not looking for the audio track within the video track and it gets lost.

  • Can't convert videos to MP3 in Windows iTunes

In the Mac version of iTunes, I can convert a video podcast into an audio-only MP3 file. I do this by highlighting the podcast episode, then going to File and clicking on "Create New Version" then holding down the "option" key to activate the "Convert to MP3."
But when I try this in the Windows version of iTunes, I cannot get "Convert to MP3" to activate. Instead, it remains grayed out and nonfunctional. My Windows keyboard doesn't have an "option" key and neither the "ctrl" key nor the Windows key nor the "alt" key will activate the command.
So how do I get "Convert to MP3" command to activate.

This is SUPER, what I use to convert videos. All the settings I have selected are what I used to get the video to work. The problem I had before is that someone told me that the iPod uses MPEG-4 video, and I assumed that .mp4 was the file extension(Output Container sets what the file extension will be) for MPEG-4. Turns out, it's not. The OUTPUT VIDEO CODEC needed to be MPEG-4, but what I had it set to was H.264/AVC. So the Output Container was right, just not the Output Video Codec.
So basically, the fix is to just use the right settings Which, if you use SUPER, is everything I have shown(Adjust the bitrates to your liking. More is higher quality, less battery life. I just watched "Wanted" last night with those current settings, and it looked and sounded alright, but I'll probably put the audio up to the next level for any future movies).

  • Can hear audio but get no video in QT player or iTunes or Safari

I can hear audio, but get no video (ie just a blank window or the "first frame" of the video) when playing basic ".mov" movies using QT Player. I also get the same behaviour when trying to watch movie previews in iTunes. I get the same behaviour when trying to watch QT movies in Safari (for example the latest apple advertisements from apple.com), although ironically I was able to watch the entire Macworld keynote without a hitch in QT Player?!?!
I know my mac is now "getting on", but I know it is still capable of displaying "ipod" sized movie trailers in iTunes.
Real player, cameraid, graphic converter and btv pro can all play the movies QT Player cant. Firefox can play the movies that Safari cant play. Unfortunately there isnt an alternative for iTunes.
Can anyone give any reason or solution to the fact that the core Apple applications are unable to play Apples own movie format when out of date, 5 year old, 3rd party software can?
    I have tried
    1) deleting the QT plist files
    2) reinstalling flip4mac, perian, realplayer and flash, and
    3) have just updated QT an iTunes to the latest version.
    Any ideas?
The only hint I can think of, is that when playing a movie in QT Player, if you minimise the movie to the dock, and then bring it back to the desktop....it displays the "current" frame of the movie which sits there "frozen" until you do it again ... and just repeating, audio is fine.
The Plugins in my HD/Libary/Internet Plug-Ins folder are:

    Java Applet Plugin Enabler

    nsIQTScriptablePlugin.xpt
    Quartz Composer.webplugin
    QuickTime Plugin.plugin
    RealPlayer Plugin.plugin
    VerifiedDownloadPlugin.plugin
Are any of these out of date?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Brad.

Yes Techmo, persistence is the secret.
After the QT 6.4.5 update once again made no difference, I gave up with a brand spanking new 2.8Ghz iMac only a couple of days away.
On cleaning out the old mac getting ready to transfer files to the new mac, I unplugged everything but (of course) power, keyboard and mouse.
I dont know why, but I tried a movie...and it worked like a charm.
I dont know what was plugged in that was giving QT grief, but I suspect it may have been my ageing Orange Micro iBot webcam. Too late now to find out (and I no longer care as I gaze on my new 24 inches of beautiful screen real estate), but for all those with this problem....try unplugging everything as I did and see what happens. At least it might be a starting point to solving your problem.
Strange it only affected Apples own applications though???
