No Bluetooth on Macbook Pro 17

I have a MB Pro 17 inch core 2 duo 2.4 Ghz. Bluetooth used to work but stopped sometime after installing snow leopard (after 1 of the updates). The icon is in the menu but when you click on it, it says "Bluetooth: Not Available". I have run Hardware Test and it did not have any errors.
I copied the harddrive to an external drive, took the opportunity to install a new larger HD. Then I installed snow leopard from the DVD (original version when it first shipped), migrated my apps and files back and then ran Software Update. It is now at version 10.6.5.
System Profiler for Bluetooth says No Information Found. Bluetooth does not show up in System Preferences either.
If I go to Help and type in Bluetooth and then choose "setting up bluetooth connections" I get a choice to click on "Open Bluetooth Preferences". When I click it I get an Error that says "The item can not be opened. It may be disabled or not installed. 2 param error"
How do I get Bluetooth back?

I have the same issue at the moment. Rick and I have the same MacBook only that I have 8GB of ram. I just bought the mac last month. Called mac support did all the resets(SMC, PRAM, etc.) and it didnt worked. Loaded the OS from the disc installer and still no bluetooth.
I took it to a service centre here only to pull it out after 4 days of not getting looked into and I need a computer to work on at home. I often use my bluetooth for file transfer, please anyone could help?

  • Bluetooth on Macbook Pro Retina not working

I am having trouble with the bluetooth on my MacBook Retina Display (software is up to date). My MacBook will not connect to my iPhone 5, nor will it connect to the bluetooth headphones I just purchased (Sony MDR-XB950BT). When I try to pair the devices to my MacBook, nothing comes up in the field of recognized devices, except for other laptops around me. Sometimes, my iPhone will show up quickly but then it will say the pair was unsuccessful. My headphones have never appeared on the devices list. However, I can connect my headphones to my iPhone perfectly fine.

I have a macbook Pro 2009.  Have a bluetooth speaker device that will pair to my iphone and my husbands iphone but not the computers.  He has an ibook which is I think 2006 or so. The instructions say to turn off any other bluetooths, so I did on my ipad and on my phone but on my computer it will NOT shut off. I am using Yosemite. I have no other devices paired to my computer.
The bluetooth may not have been able to be turned off in previous systems, I don't know I haven't looked in a long time.  I'm not even sure it is working even though it says it is on. Someone on another post in mavericks said to archive and install system. I don't know what it meant by archive and I don't want to reinstall the system. Every thing works accept for this far as I know and I don't want to reinstall again. Leave well enough alone is what usually works.

  • Bluetooth in MacBook Pro won't pair with anything

Hello all.  I have two MacBook Pros, each about 6 months old.  They are both running the latest version of Lion.  Neither one will pair with any bluetooth device.  I always get an error message saying "this device does not have the necessary services".  What does this mean, and how can I fix it?
I have a Canon printer that won't pair, and I thougth it was just a compatibility issue until I tried to pair a Jawbone Jambox (which used to pair), and a brand new Bose portable speaker.  I get the same message every time.
Bluetooth on the computer finds the device,  but can't go through with the pairing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jadrb

I just got a Creative D100 bluetooth speaker and am having the exact same problem you had. Speaker pairs just fine with my ipad, but won't work with MacBook giving me same "This device does not have the necessary services" error message. Have you found a solution yet?

  • Can iPAD bluetooth like MacBook Pro to establish a PAN through iPhone?

For my MacBook Pro, I can feel free to establish PAN through BlueTooth to my iPhone, which has enabled Tethering for internet sharing. I would like to know whether iPad can also support it so that iPad can connect internet through iPhone BlueTooth Tethering?
I wonder it would be pretty wastage to sign two contract with 3G carrier, one for iPhone and one for iPad.
    Please comment.

You can't tether an iPad to an Iphone. The bluetooth profiles on the iPad do not support that. See:

  • Logiix Bluepiston not connecting via bluetooth to Macbook Pro

    Hello
I recently purchased a macbook pro retina in january 2015. I also have a magic mouse which connects fine via bluetooth to the mac. I also have a blue piston speaker which just doesnt seem to connect. it doesnt appear at all under bluetooth preferences when its on, but it will appear in the bluetooth settings on my phone, so my phone is able to pick it up by the mac isnt.
any help would be appreciated. So far ive looked at similar posts which either used macs with older OS's and thus different options or the speakers had a seperate bluetooh button to press. (the bluepiston automatically turns on bluetooth when you turn it on)
    thank you for the help

  • What can one do with Bluetooth between MacBook Pro and iPhone?

    Hello,
I tried enabling Bluetooth on my MacBook Pro and iPhone, thinking I could file transfer some photographs. It seems not to work; after trying to "browse the device" it effectively 'times out' (as if it's a neverending 'loading' wait icon). I saw some other threads here, "I can't sync/connect my iPhone and iMac!" with various replies, like "you sync [Calendar agenda] via MobileMe, not via Bluetooth."
What does one do with Bluetooth? Can't I send files wirelessly from my phone to my laptop? If not, why not? If so, why is the connection wait interminable? I have enabled File Sharing and Bluetooth Sharing on my laptop, but see no direct means to do so in my phone's settings -- must this be done through iTunes? Do I need to configure something further before I can send files?
I have iPhone 3G Version 4.2.10 (last I checked -- still waiting to install an update) and Macbook Pro Mac OS X (10.6.8).
    Thanks for your time!

"I tried enabling Bluetooth on my MacBook Pro and iPhone, thinking I could file transfer some photographs."
This is not a feature of iphone.  Never has been.
Other than tethering for internet, where provided by the carrier, you cannot connect to a computer/device/phone and do anything.
Bluetooth is for handsfree telephone devices/headsets, stereo speakers/headsets, some keyboards, some peer to peer apps from the app store and tethering where provided by the carrier.

  • Disconnect or connect the bluetooth makes MacBook Pro restart.

    I have a MacBook Pro 13 inch, mid 2010, running OS X 10.9.2.
Everytime (well, most of everytime) when the bluetooth disconnects from my wireless device,
    Such as:
    *Out of bluetooth distance
*Manually turn off bluetooth connection on macbook pro
*Switching off bluetooth on mouse (means connection dropped with the mac's bluetooth)
*Bluetooth device out of batteries (means connection dropped with the mac's bluetooth)
*Connecting bluetooth mouse to macbook pro
*Turning on bluetooth (and then when its auto trying to connect to bluetooth device)
From all the incident above, not all at a time, but time to time, performing one of the event above will cause my MacBook Pro to restart / force restart it self.
Sometimes it comes with an white error note screen after restart, asking press anybutton to continue. Anything related to bluetooth disconnecting and connecting makes mbp restart and it's really getting me annoyed and frustrating.
My macbook pro just out of the service center less than six month ago, replaced / fixed / tested all the parts for the best condition as it should, no problem at time. Just found or realise this bluetooth issue last two months. Been looking some websites seems like no issue arround similar to this, so here I am with this thread.
I wonder anyone else suffer from this, or some expert will have some magic advise to fix this issue? Software or hardware problem? I hope it is not hardware as I just literally have all brand new hardware since last service. The problem should not come this soon.

did you try to Browse Device on Mac Bluetooth at the top-right corner? I faced the same problem but it was worked after I made macbook find my phone bluetooth.

  • Bluetooth causes macbook pro to freeze

Macbook pro 13" with a Lion OS X software trying to connect to a JBL ONBEAT Air external speaker through bluetooth.
When I first got it, it would connect with no problems. After a few months it wouldn't connect anymore, at all or at least it didn't find the speakers and if it did it wouldn't connect. I managed to solve this problem by removing and adding the device to the list on my macbook but now everytime I connect two problems occur.
    1. When it connects there will be good sound for 5 seconds, after that it will stop/mute and the sound that comes out of the speakers afterwards sounds like it is muffled. Like a wet cloth is hanging off the speaker. With it I can't always control the sound on my laptop anymore, or it takes ages for the action to come through and actually changing the volume level.
    2. When I try to disconnect or to stop connecting my computer to the speaker the computer starts freezing, or more some apps start freezing. Skype will be unresponsive so I have to force quit that one, afterwards I can't open it anymore. System Preferences is another app that will not open anymore, it says it is running but there is no window. Force Quit itself (the window) will not be shown. I can't restart or shutdown using the keyboard-shortcut or the apple-icon method. The bluetooth icon in the right-top corner will be unresponsive as well, meaning that the rainbow wheel will always appear. With it the time stops...
I've done a SMC reset and a safe boot (more than once) but the problem seems to persist. The only way to get out of this issue is to forcibly shut down the computer and I don't always want to do that.
Anyone have any ideas, or if they have similar problems? Feedback is appreciated, thanks.

Just purchased my Macbook Pro 13" (the 2.5 GHz one) and it froze on me a few times when it was 3 days old -- mouse cursor froze, keyboard wouldn't register, etc., so I had to use the power button to reboot.   Each time, it rebooted fine, but the machine froze again in the same manner three more times.
If you go to your Terminal window, you can type the command "  more system.log  ", and it will let your browse records of what your machine was doing right before a freeze/crash.  All of four of my freezes had the same error:
    kernel[0]: E:[AppleBluetoothHCIControllerUSBTransport]WARNING !!!! [AppleBluetoothHCIControllerUSBTransport::DeviceRequestCompleteHandler] error 0xe000404b (kIOUSBHighSpeedSplitError)
    kernel[0]: E:[AppleBluetoothHCIControllerUSBTransport][AppleBluetoothHCIControllerUSBTrans port::InterruptReadHandler] Received kIOUSBHighSpeedSplitError error - retrying: 1.
The only thing I had in my USB ports was my (very old) cellphone (to charge it & that's it).  Sure enough, the system.log  file recorded the following problems at the time when I first plugged my cellphone into the laptop:
kernel[0]: USBF:    89503.441       [0xffffff800e5cc600] The IOUSBFamily is having trouble enumerating a USB device that has been plugged in.  It will keep retrying.  (Port 1 of Hub at 0x14000000)
kernel[0]: USBF:    89709.320       [0xffffff800e5cc600] The IOUSBFamily was not able to enumerate a device.
I'm not entirely sure what this means, other than there's something goofy going on with Bluetooth (and I wasn't even trying to use it!)   I think this means its a software problem ("IOUSBFamily"  I think means Input/Output USBFamily, and Input/Output is a software thing).
I've googled these error messages and found similar threads and posts by other users (some that date as far back as 2008).  So it seems to be an Apple thing that's been around a while....  *sigh*
In the meantime, I've made sure my Bluetooth application is always off, and after 1 day, so far so good.  *fingers crossed*   I hope this issue will get enough attention so Apple can do something about it soon.

  • Magic Mouse Bluetooth and MacBOOK Pro problems

    Hello,
In the past few days, I noticed the BT Magic Mouse started stuttering as if it was low on batteries or too far from the MacBook Pro (not a Mac Pro)
I checked the batteries, they are at 100%, I am using the same mouse pad as I ever did and the mouse is being used about 10cm away from the laptop in clear view.
I tried disconnect/reconnect to no avail. Same with rebooting. The issue seems to come and go as it pleases.
Has someone experienced anything quite like this?

Yes, unfortunately I do, and it seems (in my case to have to do with the laptop, not the mouse). My mouse is about two feet away from the laptop and it stutters often. Then, when I move closer it appears to work smoother. I tried another magic mouse (that I know to work well, when paired to an iMac) with the same result. Unfortunately, my desk is setup in such a way that I have to change hands in order to move the mouse closer, so this is not an option. I think it must be a bluetooth issue with my Macbook Pro (2007 with a recent motherboard because of the nvidia bug issue), but it only started after using the magic mouse.
Is this a known issue, or does anyone know an easy fix?

  • Bluetooth on MacBook Pro not working!

How can I fix my MacBook Pro 15" Bluetooth connection?  When paired with wireless mouse and/or wireless keyboard, the signal doesn't hold.  Most of the time I can't get it to recognize them.  How do I fix this?

Is there anyone able to help me?  The times when I am able to pair and connect either my Apple wireless keyboard or Apple wireless mouse, the connection will be lost when I move the devices more than 3 inches away from the laptop.  I had paired a JamBox by JamBone with my MacBook Pro and all it gave me was static noise and distorted music.  I tried pairing it with wireless headphones and it will connect but almost immediately lose the connection.  Will someone please offer some advice, please?

  • IPad Won't Pair by Bluetooth on MacBook Pro/iTunes

All of a sudden my iPad won't pair with my MacBook Pro via bluetooth in iTunes. The message says it's connected, but the iPad isn't showing up under Devices in iTunes (it was yesterday and has been since I purchased it a year ago). I have tried restarting both the iPad and laptop, but it still doesn't work. Suggestions? Thanks.

I'm assuming you mean WiFi and not bluetooth.
Do you see this on your ipad screen?
You may just have to connect via usb to initialize again.

  • Weak Bluetooth Signal MacBook Pro 2011 Lion - Wireless Speaker Adapter

I just bought a wireless bluetooth speaker adapter (http://amzn.to/IRhKlX) and my signal strength between it and my macbook pro is very low, around -70dB in the bluetooth preferences thing. While it works with my cell phone, and two other non-mac laptops, the audio from my mac sounds like a skipping cd, and I'm about 2 meters away with nothing blocking the line of sight. Even if I place my mac next to the adapter, the audio quality doesn't seem to improve, though the signal strength increases to about -60dB. Can anyone help me figure out what's going on here?
    Thanks!

Any or all of the following third-party system modifications may be contributing to your problem:
    Apogee device and/or driver
    Tuxera NTFS driver
If the panic is recurrent, I suggest you uninstall them, one at a time, according to the developers' instructions, to see whether you can identify which one is at fault. A conflict between modifications may be involved. Reboot and test after each uninstallation.
Back up all data before making any changes.

  • Has anyone been having problems with bluetooth in Macbook PRO after upgrading to Mavericks?

    Hello,
Ever since I upgrade my 13inch (early 2011) Macbook PRO to OS X Mavericks I have been experiencing problems with bluetooth connectivity. Suddenly my Magic Mouse stops working and I cannot connect it back. Also I try turning off the bluetooth function but is not possible. The only workaround I have found is to restart the system.
    I appreciate any help.

  • Bluetooth connection MacBook Pro 10.6.8 to iPad iOS 7.1

While attempting to transfer files from MacBook Pro 10.6.8 to iPad iOS 7.1 - otherwise properly "paired" - I am getting the message: your device (iPad) does not have the the necessary services. What kind of services? Is there any way how to install those services on the iPad? (This function "Send file" is working perfectly with my 9 years old Windows Mobile based mobil phone!)

You cannot transfer data via BT between iDevices and computers or other devices. BT on the device is only useful with keyboards and headsets.

    Howdy tayden44,
If you are having an issue with a jagged line throught the bluetooth icon in your menu bar, you should restart your Mac. If the icon does not change, disconnect all USB devices and restart again. See this article for reference -
