No Checkboxes  Under Netboot (Server Admin)

After doing a server restore, the Netboot pane in Server Admin (on 10.5.8) no longer displays *any* checkboxes, either for ports, or for locations.
What config files can Imodify to repair this?
Some config file must be corrupt, and if I knew what to change, I could fix it, but I cannot find this problem elsewhere.
Ethernet is working everywhere else, so it isn't that.
My Other 10.5 server displays Eth0, Eth1, and FireWire.

That was one of the first things that I tried to do. I tried it again today, just to be certain, and all it did was entirely frag my network.
I have tried three different boot volumes, removed the PCI-X FC card (as apple sayd 'Do Not Use' for Intel XServes: I'm not sure why), tried installing Server Admin v10.5.7 (individual download), which only caused SA to crash constantly, re-applied the 10.5.8 v1.1 update, that seemingly fragged other prefs, and now am re-cloning the main boot volume from the backup I made prior to messing with it today, as I can now no longer even load localhost. :/
Thank goodness for routine system imaging.
**None of this did anything.**
My PPC G5 XServe Netboot works, but the Netboot optipons on the 2008 Intel are still MIA.
I also tried to rempte view the server via SA on the G5, and the ports aren't visible from there either.
I ran a drive with a much older backup, from when I am certain that NetBoot was working. I zapped the Pram six more times, and I'm at a loss here to explain the cause. I thought it could have been due to instal;ling the PCI-X FC card, but that doesn't seem to be true. For the record, I think that the FC card (PCI-X version) *was* working, although I can't prove that, and I don't know why Apple says not to use it on Intel models with a PCI-X slot.
No install that I have, current or backup, will shpw any ports or discs for Netboot, at all. My last resort wi;ll be to try a cleanm install on anopther volume, after I finish restoring this disc image, and see if that shpws the ports. If a clean install does not show ports for NB, than I am totally lost on what else I could do, as it will have to be some kind of bizarre HW problem.
I will have to verify if I have any FW devices plugged into the system. I believe I unplugged them, but I've done so much on this one problem that it's making my head spin.

  • Setting workgroup backup permissions for server admin user

I apologize in advance for what is probably a trivial question. At school I have set up a Tiger server on a PPC desktop. Open directory is implemented and managed remotely on my personal desktop machine using Workgroup manager. The local server admin account is different from the remote workgroup manager account. I have been backing up using rsync from my machine by logging in with ssh and the Workgroup manager account. Now I want to use ChronoSync on the server machine to set up a simple incremental backup routine. The problem is that ChronoSync runs under the server admin account which does not have permissions to access the group accounts. What is the best way for me to give the server admin account "global" permissions so it can backup the files and directories that were set up using Workgroup manager?

    Hi,
User Account Control treats members of the Administrators group as standard users.
With UAC enabled, members of the local Administrators group run with the same access token as standard users. Only when a member of the local Administrators group gives approval can a process use the administrator’s full access token. This process is the
basis of the principle of Admin Approval Mode.
When an administrator logs on to Windows Vista or newer, the Local Security Authority (LSA) creates two access tokens. If LSA is notified that the user is a member of the Administrators group, LSA creates the second logon that has the administrator rights
    removed (filtered).
To work around this issue, use the net use command together with a UNC name to access the network location.
Programs may be unable to access some network locations after you turn on User Account Control in Windows Vista or newer operating systems

  • NetBoot/NetInstall settings in Server Admin buggy as ****?

    Hi,
I administer a Mac pool in College. We recently updated to all new iMacs (except for one, which still is a 2006 C2D iMac) and Leopard Server running on a PowerMac G4 (Dual 1GHz, 1.5 GB RAM).
Except for a few initial quirks with Directory Services, Leopard Server runs fine and snappy on the G4 and seems highly reliable. But then again, there's this BIG problem with NetInstall.
We setup one of the new iMacs as the master computer with all the neccesary software installed, and then created a NetInstall image from it using System Image Utility. It took a while, but went fine.
We then placed the image in the proper directory (Library/NetBootSP0), and configrured and launched NFS and NetBoot services in Server Admin. It found the image and offered configuration for it. But somehow, the most essential settings are not saved, when clicking "Save" in server admin, no matter whether the service is still running or being stopped before settings are changed.
These settings are saved by Server Admin:
    Default image
    Enable this image
    Diskless (while not being available)
    Architecture (Universal, Intel or PPC)
    Protocol (NFS or HTTP)
While these settings *are not* saved by Server Admin whatsoever:
Model property filtering ("Allow any Apple Computer" vs. "Allow only specified models")
MAC Address filtering ("Allow only listed clients and deny others" vs. "Deny listed clients and allow all others")
(These settings appear when selecting an image from the list an clicking on the Edit-button (with a pen on it))
Whenever I make a change to this and click "Save", Server Admin simply ignores this and reverts it to the default settings, which are "Allow any Apple Computer" an "Allow only listed clients and deny others" with no clients listed.
When I leave the setting on "allow listed and deny others" (Whitelist), an add a clients MAC Address and save, this is ignored by Server Admin.
When I change the setting to "deny listed and allow others" (Blacklist), and save, this is ignored by Server Admin too. No matter whether I add MAC Addresses to the blacklist or not.
That way, the NetBoot service will *not send my NetInstall Image to any client*, because it thinks it has a whitelist configured, that is permanently empty. Clients not added to the whitelist are denied, which is good, but it is not possible at all, to even add a client to that whitelist. Blacklisting some machine and allowing all others doesn't work either.
Editing the approproate NBImageInfo.plist manually showed me, that Server Admin is able to:
read settings for specified types of models properly, but unable to change this setting
and *unable to even read settings about whitelisted or blacklisted MAC addresses* from the plist (keys "EnabledMACAddresses" or "DisabledMACAddresses") properly.
And so, it also cannot write these settings into the plist, it seems.
I have to NetInstall the classroom until thursady, and because of this bug, I cannot get it to work as it should, since all my cients are denied the image. This is very frustrating.
    What can I do?

MAC address filtering at the server level works, just not filtering at the image level. Depending on exactly what you are trying to achieve, this might help. But, I'm not clear on exactly what you are trying to achieve with the filtering.
The 1,0 syntax is mostly irrelevant. It is simply a reference to the NIC on the connecting system. If you have a machine with multiple NIC's (such as a Mac Pro) you might see something like 2,0:xx... instead. Regarding the rest of it, I believe the Server admin will accept accept any MAC address in the format of xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx with or without leading 0's (i.e. 00:0a:1b vs. 0:a:1b).
Model filtering information is stored in the NBImageInfo.plist, and can be manually tweaked with an appropriate application of force. You can manually move system types that you want enabled into the EnabledSystemIdentifiers list (and, of course, remove them from the DisabledSystemIdentifiers list).

Your NFS mounts (and service) appear to be fine.
Looking at your screenshot, you have a much larger problem than NetBoot & DHCP. The whole servermanager daemon looks like it's failing to run.
You are probably going to have to get someone to diagnose it live, or take it to an Apple Store.

  • Netboot in Server Admin is broken

I keep having to completely restart my 2 Tiger Servers because something is wrong with the NetBoot plugin in Server Admin. After a few days, it will become unresponsive, and the most I can do is start and stop the service via the command line - even just requesting fullstatus (in terminal) on the service comes back with failed plugin error.
Anyone else seen this? Any ideas?

One thing to look for is to make sure that the "Image Index" fields in all of your NBImageInfo.plist files are "integer" values, rather than "string" values. I've seen that cause problems before.

  • Security Update 2007-005 - Cannot find Server under Server  Admin

After I installed Security Update 2007-005 all my machines began to have problems. I was able to get them all running except my server, it is a PowerMac G4 running Mac OSX Server 10.4.9. When I click on my server in Server Admin it acts as though the server does not exist. I am able to boot to the machine and connect to the shared drives from my client computers. However the web server is not working at all.

However when i disconnect and try to connect
    with the hostname
When you say ‘hostname’ do you mean its .local name? or its FQDN?
the server admin buttons show up
as little padlocks instead of the normal green. It
    does not let me connect.
This is intersting! Whats described is not mentioned in any Apple Server documentation that I’ve seen – perhaps someone knows different? I’ve never seen a padlock icon in Server Admin Services list. My experience has been you can connect to Server Admin and it shows green against services running, or you can’t connect but have the server left in the list and all services are red. Workgroup Manager shows a padlock if you are not authenticated to Open Directory node, is this what you mean?

  • Server Admin Firewall Setting Grayed Out

In Server Admin, on the Firewall Section, with the settings tab selected at the bottom, and the services tab selected at the top, you get a list of all tcp/udp services along with their corresponding port numbers and the option to change firewall settings regarding them. My list is grayed out and I can't make any changes to it. I have no clue what I did, I just went to another tab and when I came back it was greyed out. How do I change it back so that I can modify my firewall rules? I am also aware of the lock view / unlock view feature, and my view is definately unlocked. In this screen I have access to the drop down menu "edit services for" and I can check/uncheck the two allow traffic markers. The only thing grayed out is the list of tcp/udp ports and their corresponding descriptions and allow checkboxes. I have tried restarting both server admin and the computer, as well as turning the firewall on and off, and the problem persists.

Try the following and reset the password:
    1)Close SAP B1
2)Stop and exit SAP Business One Service Manager if it is already running.
    3) Now Navigate to the Start>All Programs>SAP Business One>Server Tools>Right click on Service Manager and Run as Administrator.4)Open Service Manager from task bar.
5)Make sure Server Name is correct ( in some cases it might default to localhost, you should have Server Name, if not click on Settings and enter Server Name on License Server, port 30000 and click connect )
    6) Under Service drop down list pick License Manager and check the box Start when Operating Starts and click on Start/Play button.
Now try re-starting the system, the service should start automatically. Reset the password.

    Jim,
Before starting the database A, did you set ORACLE_SID=A from command line? You can run as many instances you want from single server provided you enough memory, processing power. Also try starting your instances usign window services and check and post some lines from alert.log for database A.

  • Lion server VPN + Server Admin Tools 10.7

    Hi,
I followed this guide http://macminicolo.net/lionservervpn to try to set up VPN on my lion mac mini server.
I also used Server Admin Tools 10.7 as instructed in the guide.
After completing the steps in the guide, I cannot get VPN to work, plus I have extra problems as below:
my mini cannot connected to the Internet or local network shares. I found under "Network" setting there was extra VLan created by the system automatically showing as "System Test--Connection error". After I delete this extra connection and revert my Ethernet to its original settings I can connect to the Internet again.
Server Admin Tools 10.7 seem to retains all its settings from the guide on NAT, Firewall etc. doesn't matter if I had removed the current server and created a new server in the left pane. Is there anyway I can restore the Server Admin Tools to its programme defaults? I suspect these settings are affecting my networks and I cannot get rid of them completely.
Would VPN still work if I just set it up in the server app? I haven't been able to get it work this way. I also want to find out is your guide for using the VPN to connect to the Internet off the server as a way to bypass restrictions? Do I have to set it up this way as the guide if I just to want to set up a VPN for simple fireshareing?
What did this command in the guide do to my mini? I was hopping if I cannot get VPN to work, then I should at least reverse the effects of this command. How do I undo this command please? "sudo serveradmin settings vpn:Servers:com.apple.ppp.l2tp:DNS:OfferedServerAddresses:_array_index:0 = "192.168.2.1"

Thanks BrianFL. This helps hugely. Yes, I just to set up a simple filesharing VPN not the kind of VPN that bypass Internet censorship. I use ethernet connection directly from my router yes.
    1. I just need to use the server app to set up a VPN and port forwarding. That is it?
    2. The setting I have made according to the guide with Server Admin Tools seems never going away, even after I deleted the server that has all the settings inside Server Admin Tools. Upon creating a new server inside Server Admin Tools, the new server inherits all the settings from the one I just deleted. Any idea how I can restore to Server Admin Tools's defaults settings?
    3. Even VNC (I use RealVNC) on the mini stopped working after I made changes according to the guide and deleted all the changes I can find. What is the address format for lion's build in VNC (192.168.0.100:5800?) like? I forgot how it is.
    Thanks so much!

  • Share point in server admin not working correctly... I think

I suspect that the share point in server admin is not working correctly. In workgroup manager when I click on a user and then click on the "home" tab, under the full path field I see a file path of:
    afp://server.mydomain.com/Users
However if I go to Server Admin -> AFP -> Share Points then click on the Users share and then click on the share point tab below, enable auto mount is disabled. How can this be possible? I thought for a directory to show up in home in workgroup manager it had to be set as an auto mount. Has something possibly corrupted? And what?

Here's a bit more information about our setup and our experiences with Apple's CUPS implementation:
On the server, all printer queues are set up with only lpr and ipp sharing enabled with the PPD setting for each printer set to Generic Postscript. We found that setting the PPD to the printer specific one on the server caused problems when clients tried to use printer specific options, like paper tray selection, etc.. The selection would be undone, apparently because the driver on the server would override the previous settings. Using Generic Postscript allows the client PPD settings to go through unmodified. Our printers are general a mix of HP LaserJets and some Sharp Copiers.
All clients use lpd to the server queues with the printers' actual PPDs configured. Using ipp is superior in that printer feedback (jams, out of toner, etc) makes it back to the clients, but ipp only works when the client, the server, and the printer are on the same network. If the ipp client is not on the same network, the client spooler immediately goes into a paused state and the print job is stuck on the client.
Using lpd to the server queues works reliably, but there is no feedback to the client. Jobs disappear from the client queue and go to the server, appearing to the user as a successful print. If the printer is down, there's nothing they can see or do about it.

Hello, pay attention to: "to read the password securely from commandline is not found"
when you execute startWebLogic.cmd the terminal request you a password. You didn't type the password.
    Solution:
    Execute startWebLogic.cmd
    Type the password.
