Problems -
An exclamation point and folder icon displayed on my iPod
Unable to connect using iPod Updater 2005-09-06
Unable to update/restore iPod
I can see but not access the iPod removable drive
Unable to perform check disk on iPod
The iPod will go into HD mode and mount when connected to PC
While the iPod Updater 2005-09-06 is connecting to the iPod the circle will appear in the top left corner of the screen then disappear, after about 5 minutes the iPod Updater crashes.
Things I have tried -
Uninstalled/reinstalled iPod USB drivers
Uninstalled/reinstalled iPod Updater 2005-09-06
Reset iPod hundreds of times
Put into disk mode
Let battery die and recharge
Bought new cable firewire/USB
Tried to connect to multiple machines
Ensured iPod service was running
Disabled all services on computer except iPod service
Tomorrow I will be giving http://www.dataclinic.co.uk a call. They seem to think they can repair the following symptoms:
Accidentally deleted files
Accidental synchronisation with the wrong music library
Formatting or restoring your iPod to its factory settings
Dropped or damaged iPods
iPods making unusual sounds upon attempts to start the device
Folder with exclamation mark not allowing access to your data
Completely dead device
Lets hope they dont think we are all fools and perform the same procedures apple invites us to do.

You're are under the impression that there are thousands of iPod users awaiting your beck and call to respond to your double, no, make that triple post, of a common failure. Let me lower your expectations. We're not paid to assist you and, insulting fellow iPod users is never a step in the right direction.
Listen mate you need to get out more. I do not think anyone should serve me. This forum is for people to help each other. Not only am I asking questions Im helping people anyway I can. Its all about everyone getting together and helping each other. I dont think anyone MUST help me. What I do think is I should be more careful in my wording if its going to trigger off negativity.
Im new to iPod and within 3 days I have learned a great deal on how to fix/resolve iPod issues al thanks to everyone on this forum. So thank you everyone for the great help and support.
OK in regard to my problem I found out how to boot the iPod into diagnostic mode, how I did this was placing the iPod in the charger resting the iPod the holding the right button and select for 15 seconds the iPod reboots backlight comes on and the apple logo appears backwards. A menu appears with several different options I selected HDD Scan this preformed a HDD check which took about 3 hours believe it or not. It came back with HDD SCAN END SCAN 112 RDFAIL SCAN NG so I got on the line to Apple read out the code, guess what the iPod is faulty and they have sent me a replacement should arrive in the next 3 days. The reason Im telling you all is because if you do run into any serious issues boot the iPod into diagnostic mode and run any of the several tests.

Are you annoyed you had to register, wait, and log in to see this forum?

I hated the fact that I was forced to register for this forum, then wait 12 hours, then log in, just to enter this forum. And many people never manage to register. See http://forums.oracle.com/forums/search.jspa?threadID=&q=register+XE+private+forum&dateRange=all for examples. I wish this forum was opened to the public. If you, too, were annoyed by this, please say so. Hopefully the moderators will see this and will open the forum to the public.
What do you all think of the registration requirement for this forum?

Also, some questions to the moderators:
1. Why do you force users to register?
2. Why don't you post the registration instructions in a public place? (This would assist users who can't find the link to register because they are having trouble installing Oracle XE or other such problems.)
3. Why doesn't your forum software automatically approve registration requests immediately?
4. Why do you force users to log in before they enter the forum? (Many system administrators and DBAs use one of a large variety of different email addresses / passwords, depending on the situation. This makes it far harder for them to remember the proper email/password combination to use when logging in.

Elements 12 will not run. I am using windows 7, all updates have been made. When I try to open it up, it loads at first, then closes, and will not open up again. I need help with this, as I have not found a single answer in this forum that works.

As stated, I just downloaded elements 12. Every time i open it up, it gets to the organizer home screen, then shuts down. After this, it will not reopen. I have another account that cannot do anything much at all, and I would like to get it fixed without a five day wait for a Genius Bar appointment, then a 1 hour bus trip each way with an "I can't help with that" in the middle.
The account has been broken for over a year. This is what happens:
I can submit a question to the community.
I can open any postings that show as matches.
If there are no matches and I get thrown to the list of communities, then I can't view or post to any of them. I see the product names and icons (iPad, for example, but the list of related communities on the right is missing for all products. Which seems unfair because I own most of them.

BTW, I created yet another ID because I was not careful enough when I set up the second ID and it defaulted to "NameFromSuburb". I am currently using Photoshop Elements 8 on Windows 7. After several years of use, I am self taught and adequately proficient for an amateur. What I didn't realize (until I started researching my upcoming migration on the Internet) is that I actually use PE8 for two functions: digital asset management and digital editing.
Regarding Digital Asset Management: My research leads me to understand that PE on MAC does not provide the same level of organizational capability that I am used to having on Windows, instead providing Adobe's Bridge which does not look very robust. Furthermore, iPhoto, which come on MAC will not support the hierarchical keyword tagging that I require to organize my library of photos. The two SW applications which I am thinking of switching to are either Aperture or Adobe's Lightroom. Frankly, I'm thinking that it would be smoother to stay within the Apple product line.
So the remaining question is whether Aperture will support my digital editing needs. The tweaks that I do to my photos are not very complex (no, I do not want to put people's heads on other animal bodies). But could someone who uses Aperture tell me whether It will allow me to do the following kinds of edits?:
- If I have a photo where someone's face is too shadowed, can I lighten just that person's face, and leave the rest of the photo as-is?
- if I have a photo where the background is cluttered (eg, 2 people in front of the Parthenon which is undergoing renovation), can I remove just the construction cranes?
- Can it splice together several separate photos to give a panoramic?
If, once I get Aperture, I find that it cannot enable the kinds of editing that I do, I would probably get PE11 in the future. However, if people in this forum tell me that Aperture will definitely not support the kinds of editing which I've described in the previous paragraph, I would prefer to get PE11 with my initial configuration (since someone will be helping me with my migration).

Not so much conflicts as maybe a little less seamless integration with Apple software and perhaps some third-party software providers in the Mac App Store where some programs build in direct access to iPhoto and Aperture libraries for getting images into those programs easily. Typically, there is a manual command to go to Finder (think Windows Explorer) to browse folders.
One caution to mention however, is that the organization you set-up in PE Organizer is unlikely to transfer over to either iPhoto or Aperture if you decide to change at some point.
The only real stumbling block that I see in your opening comment is that you want hierarchical keywording (Kirby or Léonie can go into the details on keywording limitations as I stay at one level). If you can work with the keywording schemes of either iPhoto or Aperture, then using PE for your external editor (either program supports setting an external editor) would probably be ideal since you know PE well. This is the idea with the Mac App Store version of PE (editor with no organizer).
Note - I use Photoshop CS6 (full version) with Aperture and it works really well. The only downside is that Aperture has to make either a TIFF or PSD file to send to an external editor so that the original file is protected by not sending it to the pixel editor. While TIFF or PSD files protect the integrity of the image information without degrading it, they are typically much larger file sizes on disk than either RAW or JPEG files. Therefore, your library size (iPhoto or Aperture) will balloon quite a bit if you send a lot of files to external editors.
One other possibility for an external editor would be a program called Pixelmator. It is pretty similar to early versions of Photoshop, but built for Mac. Other than the panoramics you want, it will do most pixel editing that PE can do. It is not an organizer, so it is built to go with either iPhoto or Aperture. It does have differences in how you complete certain procedures, so there is bit of a learning curve when you are used to doing it the Adobe way.

From reading this forum and my own it experance the HP "eprint" email server is flawed!

Having read on this forum and from my own experience only a limited number of email providers email addreses will be accepted by the eprint email address it certainly does not accept emails from hotmail.com and hotmail.co.uk they bounce almost before they are sent!!!
So own up HP I bought in to your sales BS and there certainly wasn't any caveats saying that you eprint system does it did not work with certain email providers.
I note that someone calling himself an interested employee of HP has been suggesting that its the providers fault, well I have been using hotmail for donkeys years and the only time my emails have bounced is when I have incorrectly entered the wrong send address configuration or the attachments were too large!
I am getting on, but for the life of me I cannot found any eprint support contact email address on their web page, is there one? or is HP hoping that their customers will sort out their problems for them?
For the record I can see my printer on line via the eprint web site and all the reports are correct so its not a fault at my end .
So HP if you actually monitor this forum get your act together and give us what your sales blurb said it would!

For those who are experiencing ongoing issues with their web services, you can attempt to try the following steps that may
help resolve your problems.
1.) Completely shut down your printer and restart it
2.) If you have prints that have not printed, log into ePrint Center (or create an account if you do not have one) and
then look for your printer status. If printer status is green but you still have pending jobs, delete the pending jobs one at
a time (Starting with the oldest first). There may be a print job stuck in the queue that further restricts other jobs from
completing.
a. If option 1 or 2 above still doesn’t work, removing web services and re-adding web services will cause the printer to
reattach to the cloud.
b. Please note that if you attempt option 3, you will get a new eprint email address (and lose your custom one with no
ability to get it back) furthermore, you will need to re-add your printer back to your ePC account.

This is not a "Bright Idea", this is a security flaw with the setup of this forum. When registering to use this forum you are asked for these personal sensitive pieces of information: - Password- Email Address- Mobile Number- CUSTOMER SERVICE PIN!- Age Confirmation This forum does not use secure HTTPS TLS anywhere, so when you register with this form, and when you login you are sending this information is clear plain text over the Web. This is extremely insecure especially considering (A) It's a known fact most typical users will use the same account password on multiple sites, so one should assume a user registering for this forum will use the same password that they use for the main MyMeteor account. (B) The Customer Service PIN is one of the pieces of information used when interacting with Meteor either by phone, chat, email, forum or post as a way to verify a persons credentials and valid identity. So given (A) & (B) if a users password and/or PIN are intercepted on an insecure internet connection, the person gaining access to these credentials could use it to impersonate the customer when communicating with Meteor. The implications are obvious. When an attacker wants to gain access to customer details they will look for the weekest access link. This forum is one of the weekest access links and if comporimised or if user details are intercepted it gives the attacker all the information they need. This forum may be powered by the Lithium service, but it is Meteor's Technical team's responsibilty to setup and secure this forum adequetly. At the moment they have not done this. They are leaving customers at risk of identity theft and are failing in their obligations under Data Protection laws. This needs to be addressed immediatly. On a wider issue it is now considered good practice for public serving websites to use TLS throughout their website and not just for registration and login pages. Contrary to misconception using TLS throughout your site will not greatly reduce the speed or performance of the site if the sys admins have used correct modern server configurations, optimisations and TLS implementation. The major browsers are now blocking out non-secure elements on secure web pages and even Google is going to start using TLS as a signal for traffic ranking. So websites using TLS throughout their site will potentially get better search rankings on Google than those without. I would ask the Meteor Sys admins to at the very least seurce this forum with TLS and then role out TLS across their entire meteor.ie web properties and follow best practise.

Uploading a file in this forum - anybody ever succeed at that?

I tried uploading a file, and it didn't say it worked, but didn't say it didn't work either (and since I made a few attempts which didn't work, and it said so, I assumed when it didn't say it didn't work, that it did work).

So, did it work? If so, how would I refer others to the uploaded file (and where would I find said file m'self).
If it didn't work, then:

1) Go to file, select new playlist. Creat the playlaist.
2) Download your music into iTunes.
NOTE: CHECK 'Recently Added' before you download your music.
If the select boxes has a check in them, turn it off by
holding down the 'ctrl' key and selecting one of the
checked boxes. This shold turn off all the checks.
It would be better to clear 'Resently Add' of all
previous downloads, but I don't know how to do that
yet.
3) under 'PLAYLIST' on the right, select 'Recently Add'.
all of your song should show there with a check in the selection
box.
4)Hold the shift key and select the frist (selete records name),
then the last recorded tune. All of the recordings shouls light
up blue.
5) While holding the 'shift' key, drag one of the records to your new
playlist. All of the blue highlighted song will transfer to the new
playlist.

Need a text box -- similar to what this forum provides

I have users that complain that entering text messages on a
web site is a pain because there isn't any of the editing
capability like in Word. So .... being able to offer a text area
just like the one I'm typing in would be great (mainly the ability
to add bullets, bold, underline, etc.). It's on Adobe's Forum so I
can only hope (?) it's available somehow to use in DW, if even as
an extension.

I have posted a few basic questions in recent times about java programming issues. Right now I am using JBuilder2005. I am relatively new to the Java progarmming community, and I don't know if JB2005 is considered evil over say, WebSphere, Eclipse, etc. But responses I have received for my basic questions (which I ended up finding my own answers to) have been less than friendly.

While I'm at it I am trying to use a DataExpress control from JB2005 to connect to an Access Database (for practice - we have Oracle but I am practicing on Access). I select the driver

then it asks for the URL, it gives me this option in the ...:
jdbc:odbc:MS Access Database
so where do I add the location of the mdb file? I can't get the control to connect. I can connect to Access if I just use code and read/insert rows of data, but I want to use a DataExpress TableDataSet control so I can load it up with rows of data from a database file in a client application. I can load up an html table of data in a servlet for display . But how can I display data the same way in a client app?
Is this forum even the correct forum for me to ask this question - or should I look for a Borland forum?

so where do I add the location of the mdb file? IYou don't. That's a mapping provided by the OS. Go to "System Controls" -> "Data Sources (ODBC)" or search the help for it if you don't find it, and set up the Access driver.
