There are four types of update settings available in Firefox. They are:
* '''Automatically install updates''' (recommended: improved security): Firefox automatically downloads and installs found updates.
**'' Warn me if this will disable any of my add-ons'': If you wish to be prompted if the downloads will disable any installed add-ons, select that setting.
* '''Check for updates, but let me choose whether to install them''': Firefox lets you choose if you want to download and install updates. If you do not choose to do so, you can download them at a later time.
* '''Never check for updates''' (not recommended: security risk): Firefox will not check for updates.
To get these settings, from your ''Firefox menu button'' then click Options. Go to Advanced > Update. You can know more about it from here: [[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/advanced-panel-accessibility-browsing-network-upda#w_update-tab |All about updates]]

thing is i have not changed setting, so it notified me before, & i think it was with automatic update on that gave me popup window about installation or restart (something like that), did they just removed it? cause i can see why some would not like it, it just gave me a feeling that something is off cause i haven't seen that popup for 3updated at least
my aromatic is on, so it should update silently so i don't notice what it updates & next day i open its just new version

• How to stop update notifications for specific software updates

NOTE: I apologize in advance for the extreme length of my post & hope that someone will be willing to read it all & then be willing to help... Thanks!
I have been continually getting a Software Update notification for "Migration Assistant Update for Lion" (described "This update provides compatibility for migrating to a Mac running OS X Mavericks.") for quite a while now. IMHO, I consider my Mac knowledge/tech experience level (on a scale of 1-10, where 10 is a Mac Guru) to be about maybe 6 or 7 on average (&von a good day maybe an 8). That's assuming, of course, something like this can be quantified in that way. LOL! ;-) Anywho, I digress... Back to my question... As a general rule I don't immediately jump & install every single new update that comes out for all of my technology/electronics, no matter if Apple or Google tells me to do so. Obviously, I take all notices regarding security seriously & immediately research (unless it's forced upon me) it thoroughly before installing. This is ESPECIALLY true for apps in Apple's app store or Google Play Store, & I read a lot of the user reviews, as well as trusted tech gurus on the Web. Because NOT EVERY update is truly an improvement (mostly b/c of the failure to FULLY test them before releasing, more like unleashing, them to the public...Microsoft has mastered this FUBAR technique to absolute 'perfection', or something like that...haha!) OY, I'm so sorry for continually getting off topic. Okay, seriously now, here's what I want to know: Is there any way to tell Apple I don't want to install one of their recommended updates & also to stop bugging me about it? I'm specifically referring to the one I mentioned above. Everything I found online about Mavericks made me want to stay VERY FAR AWAY from it. I could be wrong or found bad info, but I don't think so. Please let me know if I'm wrong, because I really want to make the best/most informed decision possible. Thanks!
That being said, today I received notifications about Apple's latest security update (2014-001), plus one for Safari. I plan to install the security update for sure & most likely the one for Safari (even though I stopped using it months ago & started using either Chrome, Opera or Firefox - I still haven't picked a fave, but use Chrome 90% of the time... I'm open to suggestions about these apps too...)... But, I don't want to mess with the "Migration Assistant" one.
I would really love some help from my fellow Mac users... I apologize for being long winded & will try to reign in that nagging writing flaw in future posts. Also, I apologize if I've missed something that's totally obvious & easily found on this or other forums/sites, but I really did try to find an answer before posting my question here...
Thanks Mucho to all of you who were able to read through my mini-novel (& not fall asleep in the process) & actually found my question at the end!! I would like to say "THANK YOU!!" in advance for any & all help y'all are willing to provide!!! :-D
Hope you have a FANTABULOUS day! (^_-) Sincerely, Care ;-)

Wow, now that I see how extremely long my post is on screen, I'm a wee bit embarrassed... I'm hoping someone will be willing to overlook this annoying factor & provide a suggestion... :-/ Signed w/shame, Care :-/

• How can I handle exception? - to give user more friendly notification

Hi!
User gets an error:
'Error in mru internal routine: ORA-20001: Error in MRU: row= 1, ORA-20001: ORA-20001: Current version of data in database has changed since user initiated update process. current checksum =...'
How can I handle this exception (when two users want to modify the same set of data at the same time)? I would like to hide the above error message and give user more friendly notification.
Thanks in advance,
Tom

Thanks Vikas for your answer.
These workarounds are really creative and I want to use one of them. BUT my problem is to 'catch' the exception/error when two users want to modify the same set of data at the same time.
Those solutions which we can read about in this link you gave me describe handling exceptions in pl/sql processes. How can I catch the error I am talking about in pl/sql code?
Code would be like this:
DECLARE
two_users EXCEPTION;
BEGIN
IF --catch the error
THEN RAISE two_users;
END IF;
EXCEPTION WHEN two_users
THEN :HIDDEN_ITEM := 'Error Message';
END;
What should I put in a place where there is '--catch the error' ??
Thanks in advance,
Tom

• Is there an addon to block Firefox update notifications?

So Firefox has always been annoying when it comes to updates, and now it has a daily window that pops up unless I update, which will interrupt me if I'm playing a game, or watching a movie. I don't NEED to break my addons and there is no advantage for me to update, only disadvantages so I am wondering if there is an addon or plugin for Firefox 3 that will block update notifications.

''...I also know that these updates are for people who DON'T know what they are doing...''
Actually, that is not the full story. Malware is injected into reputable websites all the time, and can trigger software errors that allow automatic execution of attack code by infiltrating the host program's address space (e.g., buffer overflows). In the past, attacks have been launched through flaws in rendering of JPEGs, among other automatic browser behaviors. Windows 7's DEP can protect you from some of these attacks, but no one believes that DEP is foolproof.
I applaud you for being security conscious and actively minimizing your risk, but practicing cautious computing is not the same as having no risk.
Edit: I should add that I'm not trying to talk you out of what you want to do, but providing more complete information for others who read this thread in the future and might not be as savvy as you.

• Invalid update notifications

I bought my MacBook second-hand. Apparently, the previous owner purchased "Photo Effects Lite." Not sure for what platform.
I have deleted the previous owner's accounts as well as I know how.
Now in the App Store application, I'm getting annoying update notifications for "Photo Effects Lite." When I try to update, I get, "You have updates available for other accounts." I am advised to sign in to some account that probably belonged to the previous owner. I can't do that because it is not my account, I don't have the password, etc. It's not the end of the world, but it is annoying.
Please advise.

This was what I was referring to as pirated software. Most folks never read the licensing that comes with a new Mac, with regard to the Mac itself and the software that comes pre-installed or that may be added to the Mac from the MAS.
Hahahahahahohohoho
No one ever reads stuff like that. It's unintelligible anyway, it goes on for pages and pages, most of it completely irrelevant to the needs of the user, it's usually in three point type. It always benefits the company, never the user. It's misleading, too. For example, there's nothing to stop me from installing Mountain Lion on more than one machine, for personal use, even though, technically, doing so violates the EULA (assuming I understand correctly, which is far from certain).
All this is exactly the opposite of user-friendly.
Seems like Apple wants to discourage users from purchasing second-hand machines, by making it difficult to transfer them to a new owner. Personally, I can't afford the "Apple tax," so I buy second-hand. I could afford a new Windows laptop! Is that what Apple wants?
Sure, there's a technical bulletin buried somewhere in the bowels of the archives of the dungeons of apple.com/support. Not very helpful to someone like me.
Well, anyway, I understand the situation better. Thanks for your help.
FWIW, I talked to Apple Care on the telephone a couple of weeks ago, about this machine, regarding an unrelated issue. I told the represenatative I had bought the machine second hand. He said, "Okay, hold on a second..." I could hear him tapping keys. He said, "Okay, the machine is now registered to you.' I did not understand the significance of this conversation at the time, and to tell you the truth, I still don't.
We've still got a ways to go before an Apple computer is as easy to use as a toaster.

• Automatic app update notification in Store not wor...

I had to reset my Lumia 720 two months ago after a failed attempt to update to Amber left the dreaded spinning cogs on my phone for more than two weeks. I managed to reset it and update it to Amber. Afterwards, i realised that the auto update notifications which usually appear in Store has seized functioning. It has hasn't worked to date though manual checks reveal app updates occasionally. Pls help me resolve this. Thanks
Solved!

Hi mui2g6,
Did you installed a firmware via software? It seems to be the problem.
Regarding the cogs, this is the solution, taken from another forum:
==========================================================
After spending 8 hours trying to recover from spinning gears following a hard reset, of all the methods I tried, this is the one that worked:
-Phone was showing spinning gears
-Battery was low
-Took Sim card out
-I logged into find my phone and erased my phone using the on-line feature:https://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/my
-Let it sit for 1 hour then turned it off
-Press and hold the Volume down & Power buttons until the phone vibrates then release the power button but keep pressing the volume down key for approximately 10 seconds until you see a low battery on the screen.
-If you don’t get the low batt and you get the Nokia lego then press the following buttons in this order;
--Volume UP
--Volume DOWN
--POWER
--Volume DOWN.
-Your phone will now automatically reboot and try again till you get the low batt
-When the low batt shows up do nothing, it will turn off by itself
-Let sit for 1 hour and turn back on
-Press and hold the Volume down & Power buttons until the phone vibrates then release the power button but keep pressing the volume down key for approximately 10 seconds until you see a low battery on the screen.
-Plug your phone into the charger when you see the low batt
-If you don’t get the low batt and you get the Nokia lego and go back to the spinning gears of death then press the following buttons in this order;
--Volume UP
--Volume DOWN
--POWER
--Volume DOWN.
-Plug your phone into the charger when you see the low batt but not till you see it
-Now press the following buttons in this order;
--Volume UP
--Volume DOWN
--POWER
--Volume DOWN.
-Your phone will now automatically reboot it will show the spinning gears again but within 10 mins it will start up as a new device.
==========================================================
Remember you have to download official upgrades from your carrier, otherwise the phone won't be able to show some features.
Kind regards,
careduro

• I got update notification for an app i didn't buy

I've got update notification for an app "CodeBox" that i didn't buy on my MacBook Appstore
how can i remove it??

I'm not sure why that link gets given out for pirated apps because it has nothing to do with pirated apps. That link is about a totally unrelated issue about MAS updates.
Finding a pirated app -
All MAS apps have a MAS receipt in their app bundle. Check any app acquired from the MAS. Right click on the app's icon in your Apps folder and choose Show package contents. In the Contents folder is a _MASReceipt folder and in that folder is the coded MAS receipt. It has the Apple ID of the MAS account that bought/acquired the app from the MAS. It is that receipt that the MAS uses to alert you that an app has an update. There would not be a notice of an update with someone else's Apple ID showing in the MAS on your Mac, if there was not an app with a receipt from this person's account somewhere on your Mac.
Download the free app FindAnyFile (FAF);
http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
This app is easier to use and seems to be more powerful than Spotlight. Open FAF and in the box type _MASReceipt and press Find. It should come up with a list of every app on the Mac with a MAS receipt. Compare the apps with receipts in FAF's list with your purchased apps list in the Mac App Store. The odd app out should be the pirated app.
Lots of folks are resistant to the idea that they have a pirated app, but they eventually find out that its true;

• Sig update notification and frequency

Hi Experts,
What's the process by which IDS customers find out when new signatures (and service packs) are available? Is it the responsibility of the customer to check periodically or does Cisco automatically notify IDS customers?
Also, approx how often do new signatures become available and what's the trend been like? More often? Less often?
Thanks for any feedback.

You can sign up for IDS Active Update Notification from here:
http://www.cisco.com/kobayashi/sw-center/ciscosecure/ids/crypto/
...just follow the "IPS Active Update Bulletin" link near the top.
The updates come out once a week or more.

You settings and such are in a separate place and not in the Firefox program folder as has been the case since the browser was known as Phoenix 0.1
Your settings like Bookmarks, history and such are in a Profile. If you uninstall Firefox and then install same or another version you will find that your settings are still there since it will use the last Profile used unless selected otherwise upon Firefox start.

Alright, so my ipod touch stopped working, but I can still connect it to itunes, but my friend gave me his old nano. I was wondering how I could get my more updated songs from my ipod touch onto th nano. My laptop crashed whitch had all my new music, and im afraid if I sync my Ipod touch to the desktop with all my old songs, ill lose all my newer ones which I dont want to happen because I want them on my nano. Im sorry for the confusing topic im just so lost.

All you have to do is connect your new iPod to the computer that has the library for your old iPod.
When iTunes comes up, click on your new iPod under Devices.
At the top of the Summary Page click Music.
Click Synch Music.
Do the same thing for Photos, Apps, Movies and so on...
Now just synch the iPod.

Have you tried a reset by pressing and holding the sleep/wake button and the home button for 20 seconds (maybe longer) until the Apple logo appears, ignore the red slider. Then turn back on. You won't lose any data doing the reset.
