No on demand bad drop

we have had comcast come out about 3 to 4 times to fix our xfinity on demand service every time they come out after they fix it it works for a short time then does not work they say it is something to do with the drop the pole where the cable internet and phone come from is to far from our house they have also added in our home a booster of some sorts and it still does not work sending a bullet to the devices does not fix it cable wires are tight we feel why pay for the on demand service if we cannot use it frankly we love comcast because it is the best but it seems that the problem is and has not been fixed and this is irritating we just want to be able to watch On Demand there are shows that We can not watch at the time they are aired but also can not watch they on demand either all we want is the problem to be fixed and not go out after the Cable Guy leaves the error we get on our on demand when we try to watch something is  we're sorry you are having difficulty please retryyour selection you may also try tightening your cableconnections if the problem persists please unplugyour box for one minute visit comcast.net error (SRM-8001)  we have unpluged our box for the one minute visiting the site does not help if it is a bad drop please help us resolve this issue as it is annoying  also they have replaced the cables from the pole to our house Thank you

The service is still not working the last tech that came out told us that the drop from the pole to the house was too far something like 360 feet he added a booster it helped then stopped working meanwhile if On Demand is working then the internet is a lot less than perfect and vice versa. If I had to choose between On Demand and Internet service I rather have internet working.

  • Drop out/pixillation on DVD

    Hi,
I am producing a DVD with 9 short films on (length 4 mins to 14 mins).....all shot on HDV and edited in Final Cut, I have exported all the films to Quicktime movies (not using conversion) and then created DVD using iDVD, all previews fine in iDVD etc but 3 of the films have bad drop out/pixillation at several points once burnt onto DVD....while the other 6 films are all fine.....I have tried different burn speeds.....
any ideas very very welcome, as I supposed to deliver the DVD on monday....
I do have DVD Studio Pro, but no idea how to use it and the thought of trying to learn that at this stage before monday is scaring me!....especially as may end up with same problems....
    Cheers

No the sequences seem to be random....no particular fast moving bits or significant effects.....have checked VOBs with Streamclip and they are corrupted, so its definitely not the players....however tried making an MPEG 4 file with Compressor, as I had read iDVD accepted them....and put it onto DVD...works fine, no drop out at all....(although it has lost widescreen and squashed it into 4:3!)....and unfortunately quality is not good enough for the DVD.....
so will try MPEG 2 now, and see if that works in iDVD....otherwise it looks like an all night learning DVD Studio Pro....no bedtime stories for the kids tonight! Unless you have any other ideas.....all very gratefully received.....
    Cheers

  • Dropped my iPhone

Ok, so I dropped my iPhone last night
It was a low drop, about 4 feet, and it only fell on a thick carpeted floor. But it's not working properly now. These are the problems that I'm getting:
    • the Home button does not respond at all, which means I can't do a reset or go back to the home screen. The only way to go back to home page is to switch off and then back on.
    • I keep getting a popup message saying something like "This device is not designed to work with iPhone ...". I don't know which device it's talking about (bluetooth is switched off), so I just click cancel.
    • I tried connecting to my iMac, thinking I can do a restore from iTunes. But the iMac displays a message like "this device is drawing too much power and the USB controller will be disabled ...". So I cannot connect to iTunes to do a restore or even charge the phone.
    • Trying to charge from a power outlet does not work either. The phone just does not charge.
    • if I switch off the iPhone (by holding down the power button for a few seconds), it switches off, but restarts again immediately.
    • the clicky sound that it makes when you use the slider buttons, sounds distorted so I suspect the speaker is also affected.
I'm very annoyed as it wasn't a bad drop and I really needed the phone this weekend as I'm providing weekend support to our business client, grr ...
I took it back to the O2 store where I purchased it from (when it was first released in UK), this morning. I was hoping they would issue me a replacement, but they didn't
They are sending it away for repairs and I'm told it will take about 7 days. In the meantime they issued me a loan phone (after taking £25 as a deposit) and believe me, after having used the iPhone, this old Nokia 1110 that they gave me feels so craaaapppp.
My only hope is that they will give me a brand new model as I've kind of lost faith in the one that I returned and if I got that back I'll always have doubts about it's reliability. Even before the fall I had concerns about it's battery performance as I was having to charge it almost everyday and that's with just having it on standby with no wifi etc.

No the phone wasn't insured as I figured 1 year's warranty should cover any issues. The £25 wasn't the excess, it was simply a refundable deposit for the loan phone that I'd been given while the iPhone gets repaired. At least that's what the O2 salesman told me.
I've been tracking the progress of the repairs. The repair centre received the phone yesterday and within an hour, the status had changed to 'Product Replaced'. I guess they either couldn't repair it or the repairs would have taken too long and they've simply decided to replace the phone.
I got a call from O2 today saying that they have now received the phone and it's ready to be collected.
Will pick it up tomorrow evening.

  • IDVD frame dropping source found / Perian / FlipVideo

A while back, I was tearing my hair out trying to figure out why my iDVD movies were dropping frames badly. After weeks of work, I finally re-formated the drive and re-installed. Everything worked fine.
However, in the process of trying to get my FlipVideo camera's AVI files to work on Leopard again, I downloaded what I used before, the Perian driver package. ( http://perian.org/ )
The FlipVideo / AVI files worked fine. However, my iDVD final products were now dropping frames again. I uninstalled Perian and the video looks fine again. I am going t do some more testing, but from everything I can tell, iDVD uses a Perian driver when it shouldn't or there is a bug with the Perian driver that causes video to badly drop frames in the final DVD render.
So, if anyone else get a dropped frame problem with iDVD, see if you have that driver package installed and try removing it.
    Matt

    Hi Matt,
I can conclusively confirm that Perian does conflict with iDVD when transcoding H.264 files. DV stream files work fine, but trying to get iMovie 08 output files ( tested at 960X540) to render in iDVD will skip frames in the final output.
Perian 1.1 has a nice feature in the control panel that uninstalls it's codecs whilst allowing re-installation when required without the requirement to re-download.
If you have H.264 files previously rendered either in the background or up front in iDVD, you will need to delete these and re-render with Perian disabled. This conflict affects all render modes in iDVD
Hope this helps anyone else (and I know through looking around the forums that there are) who has been head scratching on this one.

  • Install Disk Doesn't Open to Do a Clean Install

I have a 6-year-old Powerbook that was badly dropped which started freezes occurring in every program. 4-5 freezes per day. I backed up everything, then tried to do a clean install with my MacOSX.5 Installer disk, but can't get the computer to read the installer disk except for the instruction folder. I tried it several ways including 1) hitting the install icon from the disk's open menu on my desktop, 2) ejecting the DVD and rebooting holding the C down with the DVD loaded, 3) having my startup disk set to the MacOSX Install DVD, but all the computer does is make chugging noises. Then I performed First Aid and tried again. No joy. My instructions say to erase my disk but they tell you to do that through the Install DVD, which I can't access. My questions are 1) is there any other way to access the Install DVD without erasing my disk? 2) Or do I have to erase the disk and if so how can I do it without the MacOSX Install DVD. Thank you!

Thank you, BGreg. I booted up fine with original disk. Now I need more help to get to the Hardware Test. I don't have an "alt" key, but found that is the option key. Booted up holding down the opt key. Got a screen with 3 icons. Left icon: [<-]. Middle icon [Mac HD]. Right icon: [->]. I didn't know what to do so I closed down, rebooted and looked up "Apple Hardware Test" which said to do the same thing with the 2nd original grey disk. I did that and got the same 3 icons. I kept holding the opt key and hit the [Mac HD] icon = computer started up as usual. Then a second time the [->] icon and I got the computer opening up as usual but then the disk opened and I got a list of ReadMe's for how to restore my computer. Never did I get a list where I could choose "Apple Hardware Test", nor any drop-down. Would you have another idea on how I could reach the Apple Hardware Test? (Even my particular computer's instructions did not work!)

  • Time Machine + eSATA FreeAgent Drive + NT Extender = ARGH!!

I just recently installed the eSATA extender cable from NewerTech http://www.newertech.com/products/esata_cable.php on my 2006 Mac Pro and I'm having a b*tch of a time using an external drive on it. I just bought a brand new Seagate 1TB external with eSATA in hopes I could use it with Time Machine to backup my stuff. Everything seems to mount ok when I bootup, but when Time Machine starts backing up, its: a) pretty slow and b) will freeze at some point during the backup. I've also tried using a 1TB WD MyBook and I'm having the same problem...I know somethings up with the eSATA because the FW400 works fine... but if I wanted to use FW, I wouldn't have installed the eSATA ports now would I?!
I've read some users are having similar problems. Some say that FW to eSATA bridges are the culprit in some externals (FreeAgents, MyBooks), eSATA cables being too long or poor quality, and I've even read Time Machine could be the problem. Does anybody REEEEALLY know for sure what the problem is? Any advice?
Sidenote: If it is the external that is the problem, any advice on what external drive I should actually buy?

Yes, return the drives and avoid those "vendor" brands.
Watch out for the Seagate 1TB bug.
And yes, the little "hop" from SATA thru USB/FW/eSATA bridge is a real bad drop and adds loads of trouble that your interface is creating.
Use NATIVE SATA case for your drive(s).
This costs, but 3-speed quiet fan, hot swap drive trays (though the ODD ports aren't hot swap)
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Firmtek/SATA2EN2/
Cheap but does the job $65
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MESATATBEK/
If you want/need FW also, then OWC Mercury cases use Oxford 9xx which seem to be fine.
I really like and use a lot of WD drives, just not their externals (they do have a Mac line of MyBooks though)

  • Has anyone. Tried to return their iPad yet?

If anyone has returned their iPad yet can you let us know what Apple had to say? Did they charge you a restocking fee?
    Thanks

This sounds just like the marketing strategy of apple.
    Definition of Luxury item!
In economics, a luxury good is a good for which demand increases more than proportionally as income rises, contrast with inferior good and normal good. Luxury goods are said to have high income elasticity of demand: as people become more wealthy, they will buy more and more of the luxury good. This also means, however, that should there be a decline in income its demand will drop. It must be noted, though, that income elasticity of demand is not constant with respect to income, and may change sign at different levels of income. That is to say, a luxury good may become a normal good or even an inferior good at different income levels, e.g. a wealthy person stops buying increasing numbers of luxury cars for his automobile collection to start collecting airplanes (at such an income level, the luxury car would become an inferior good).

  • My iPhone won't charge and the sleep button does not work, Please Help!

I woke up this morning and my iphone was dead. I have been using the assisted touch setting because one day for no particular reason my sleep button stopped working, so I can't even try a hard reset now.  The phone never had a bad drop and the only way it could be water damaged is from being in a steamy bathroom. If anyone has a suggestion as to how to get my phone to work again, Please leave a suggestion!!
    Thank you

It could be that your button has justy gone out.  You may try getting compressed air to blow out any dust in there.  If that doesn't work, you may have to get your button and ribbon replaced.

  • Architectural approach

    Hi java gurus,
i'm designing a sales tracking application, which has a gui client (not web based), which will connect to an SQL server database. I've written the gui in swing and thats fine and dandy. My question how should i approach developing the middle tier. Should i do a straigh sql connection on the clinet side (using a db access thread) or should i connect it to some middleware, e.g. connect to a jboss or resin server which will handle the connection / sql requests to the db server. If so how should i approach this? Use DAO or session facade? Some insight here would be great! Thanks again.

    hi all,
thanks for the rapid resposne. The reason i wrote
e iton swing is i use a JDesktop frame, and the have
a jmenu bar etc. So the gui is quite complex. not
something that can be easily developed in a html ,
dhtml etc (you can imagine the code on that!!). Actually I've seen browser based JSP UIs that are very complex and attractive. Unless your users are demanding drag & drop, a browser might be an alternative. But you see fixated on your Swing app, so that's fine.
    the
number of users would be a min of 15. Min is no problem. What about the max?
    originally i
coded the sql queries and connection on the client,
through a separate thread, so that way atleast the
requests do not block the paint methods of the gui
(so you don't get that funny dragging on your
windows!). I've compiled the application as an EXE
file, and this exe is on a shared network drive.
Users just have a link to the shortcut. I guess my
y main question is regardless if i use session
facade or dao, how will i get my gui to retrieve the
results? The UI Listener class that handles the query request will instantiate the DAO, call its finder method, and work with the List of objects that come back. It's all in memory, so there's no worries there.
i've developed a jsp, servlet, ejb
application before, and normaly i would use a servlet
to query the ejbs, based on a jsp request. But
through a downloaded swing based client i'm not quite
sure. You're going to have to have your Swing client make a remote request to get results back.
If you talk directly to an EJB, you'll do the JNDI lookup in the Listener that handles the query event to get the EJB remote interface, make the call, and deal with the data structure of objects that comes back. Your UI won't deal with ResultSets or anything like that anymore. It'll just be a data structure or object that will then be displayed.
The DAO will be hidden behind the session facade in this case. All the database specific stuff will be in the DAO and out of the UI. The session bean can handle any transactional needs you have, too. Connections are pooled. Must more scalable.

  • Refreshing the browser.

    Hi All,
I need to refresh my view when a button is clicked. There is only one view. And please tell if the method you are posting will work in IE as well as Firefox.
    Thanks in advance.
    Pranav

    Hi,
Thanks for answering. Actually my application demands three drop down for country, city and period. Now based on country key selected i have to display city and period. Now if i invalidate the nodes for all the drop downs it is working fine for country as i m getting country list in drop down but for city and period i m getting the old values which i previously filled before refreshing. Requirement is that based on country key selected the drop down for city and period should get populated.
What i did to achive this is that i created another value set in action of refresh button and filled it with null values and binded it with the drop downs. But now i m getting a blank field which i can select in the drop down.
So to achive this functionality what i was thinking is that if there is any method which can do the same work as the refresh button of the browser is doing.
    Regards,
    Pranav

  • Speed issues result to HORRIBLE technician experience.

I have been having issues with my speeds (mainly my upload speeds) since Friday 06-19-2015.
Since the issue started my download speeds vary a small amount but nothing big.  My upload however....HUGE problem.
I am subscribed to the Blast 50 package which I was told would be 50Mbps down and 10Mbps up.
The techs I spoke with even confirmed for me that those speeds are guarenteed.
Before, I could test to servers all around the mid south with consistent good results.  Take note they were not all comcast servers.  They still did fine.
Now those same servers give me terrible upload results.
I understand that there are variables. However to drop from a consistent 12.9Mbps upload speed to a 1.5-2Mbps using the same servers as before is a problem.
I had some friends and my father (all comcast subscribers in the same area as me) do the same tests to the same servers and their outcome was great, no issues at all.  Just like mine was in the past.
I have tried talking to tech support who of course refreshed the signals and had me go over numerous tests again and again.
At first they didn't seem to want to help.  They seemed more concerned with selling me upgrades rather than fixing my issues.
Then they had me of course test to the closest server to me (same city I am in) and ignoring results from any of the other servers I tried to bring up.
Noting that even the server that's here is not giving me the same results as I would get before, but because they are over/at the expected 50Mbps down all is considered fine.
I finally got them to see results from another comcast server in my state that wasn't giving me the "passing" results (but it used to).
It wasn't until I started to really push that and the big issue wasn't my download speeds so much but my upload speeds (upload speeds are crucial for me) they started to get a little more involved.
Finally after some more tests they tell me that they do see an issue and they were going to escalate my problem.
Sunday 06-21-2015 I get a call from another tech who said they were from the comcast advanced technical support office who wanted to do tests (the same ones I did before) and
of course refresh the signals.  He also told me that he saw an issue.  Told me to wait 24 hours and test the speeds again.  The waiting 24 hour message to me just seemed like an out.
However the following day they did call me back to see if the issues were resolved.  They weren't.  So they scheduled a tech to visit Thursday 06-25-2015 between 8am-12pm.
Now the fun part begins.  I take the morning off Thursday 06-25-2015 which isn't easy for me to do.  I get no call ahead of time from the tech who comes out.
The tech just shows up and NEVER introduced himself to us, just walked right in.
He had an attitude from the very beginning.  Even told me it was "pointless to be here and a waste of time".  He didn't even bother listening to my problems or anything.
Telling me because my results were "passing" to the comcast server in my city I don't need to test to any of the others and the results are irrelevant.
He ran one test to check the carriers and that was it.  After his test my download speeds were not capped off at the set limit for Blast 50 internet anymore.
I am getting higher download speeds now (I'll explain this a little later).
While he was here I tried explaining to him that I noticed the cable for my house running up to the pole at the street has pulled loose and is just hanging off the pole.
Since to me it looks like it is close to the tap I wondered if it may have stressed the connection at the tap. So I asked him if he could just double check.
He tells me "it doesn't matter" and that "it wont affect anything". He never once acted like he wanted to do his job.  He was very unprofessional and overall rude the ENTIRE time he was here (which wasn't very long less than 10min).
He didn't want to bother actually checking to find any issues he just wanted to leave.  I mean as he said from the moment he stepped foot in my house, to him it was "a waste of his time".
It was also a waste of mine.  It was extremely infuriating and unacceptable.
Later Thursday evening I talked to another comcast tech that's out of state.  He looked over everything he could and told me that some how my modem config was pushed to the high tier speeds.
So right off the bat I should be getting at least 105Mbps down ... not the 88Mbps that's showing up.  That was a big red flag to him.  He also told me my upload speeds should be A LOT better.  Yet another red flag.
He then ran the health of my modem and told me the problem he saw was on the Upstream Rx Power.  Two errors there.  One red and one orange. That I definitely have an issue.  He asked me to check and make sure the cable was screwed in tightly from the wall to the modem (it is).
Also asked me if there were any splitters (there is not any that I'm aware of).  The line I have is dedicated solely to my main computer and that is it.  No other devices share the line.
After checking that stuff off he explains to me that it's beyond my control. That now I need another tech who cares to come out to check everything.  He felt that it could be a bad fitting, bad tap, or even a bad drop.
He also advised that the cable be checked to see if it is the correct size since my property is around an acre and a half to the house.
He said for sure something is wrong and he was very sorry for the previous techs attitude.
There is an issue for sure.  I can feel it, see it and it's a problem for me.  It's not the way it was before.
I pay for a service and expect good results.  What I have been getting since Friday 06-19-2015 is not what I pay for.
I am getting really tired of all the issues that comcast has created for me.
From a whole month of ordeals just to get it installed, cutting my phone line when they were burying the cable, the non-stop dancing on the phone, and now this.
It's getting very old and I haven't even had it a year yet.  I wonder sometimes if its even worth it.
I would like to get this issue resolved. Also if a tech needs to come out, I refuse to have the tech that showed up 06-25-2015 to come back to my property.

    Thanks for the tips.

  • Record live band practice with Garage Band

Any tips on how to best record a band practice with a single mic and Garage Band? It doesnt have to be amazing quality, just something we can post online to give an idea of sound. We have a sno-ball mic and a macbook. Thoughts are appreciated. The band is 8-pieces (yeah horn section) so thats why we just want to do the quick and dirty for this. Thanks!

    Phillyberg125 wrote:
    Last question:
How is it that the flash recorders will work and not comp sound but the mic i'd buy for the same price and usb into the mac does?
    Reasonable question -
Both will work, both can sound great, both can sound terrible.
Recording into a computer is more complex because the computer does other things. Flash recorders only do one thing, so they're optimized for that. A million things can go wrong with a computer, but the flash recorders are dedicated (albeit limited) devices. They're small and reliable, and won't try to connect to a wireless network or write to a Spotlight database in the middle of a recording and crash.
But they don't necessarily sound better than a computer.
My Sony flash recorder will sound better than recording into a computer with a so-so interface and so-so mic because it has better audio components. The mic pres, mics, and digital converters in it are well made, so it sounds great.
However, if I use a better interface, mic pres, and mic and record into my computer, that will sound better than my Sony recorder, but will also be harder to manage. If I just want to set up and record to a single (stereo) mic source, the Sony is way more convenient and sounds great. If I want the best sounding recording I can make, I'll use my computer, interface, and a bunch of outboard pres and mics.
I think there may be some USB mics that are OK sounding. I know some people who use them and get good results. But generally, USB mics are not that great sounding. They combine a mic, a digital converter, and an interface into one inexpensive package. The snowball sells for around $100. I'm not sure how that divides among the components, but that's very little money that's gone into making the mic, converter, and interface. It lets you get up and running for cheaps, but it's so cheap that it's never going to sound all that great.
If you spent a hundred dollars on just the interface, and a couple of hundred dollars on mics going into your computer, it will sound better than the snowball because the components are better.
The flash recorder won't sound better because it's a flash recorder. It's just that if you spend around (picking random number) $300 on a flash recorder, it's dedicating maybe $150 towards the mic and pres, and $150 towards the recorder, optimized to work together in a dedicated device. That will outperform the $50 mic in the snowball.
Your setup sounds like it can take you in two very different directions - one simple (one mic to record the room), the other complex (at least 8 inputs of interface/mixer to record the entire band). Since setting up the complex solution would be a big jump in price to get decent sounding equipment, it sounds like the simple solution might be a better way to start, for now.
You could buy a small interface and a couple of mics and that would rival (or be better than some) flash recorders. But you'd still be looking to upgrade to a more flexible interface for the whole band. And you'd still be paying a couple of hundred bucks. Still - you shouldn't rule that out. Maybe buying a small interface and a couple of mics would be a good way to start. A gateway drug to a bigger, more flexible interface.
Or, for the same money that you'd pay for the small interface and mics, if you're still thinking of just plopping a mic down in one place and making a simple stereo recording (not multitrack), you could get a flash recorder which will not only work for now, but will continue to be useful to you even after you get a larger interface and expand.
Flash recorders are always good to have around. Just being able to take something out of your pocket and record, fast and easy - that's always useful. And since you're talking about recording from one spot, why deal with a computer, wires, setup, hard drives, mic stands, a chair to put the computer on, a power cable from the computer to the outlet, someone walking into the cable, the computer falling off of the chair, the hinge on the screen breaking, everyone getting mad at the person who knocked the computer off the chair, that person feeling really bad, dropping out of the band, getting depressed, wandering around Lafayette Park in a chicken suit, getting in all sorts of trouble... it's just a slippery slope.
However, no one solution is intrinsically better than the other, or intrinsically better-sounding. Both will work, both can sound great, both can sound terrible.

  • Broken screen on Nokia express 5800

I have a 5800 Nokia Express Music phone that I purchased when i was outside the US a few months back. I am using it in the US now. The screen developed a small crack and when I call Nokia customer service, I am told that they will not replace / repair the unit although it is under warranty. what are my options to get the unit replaced /repaired with no charges since the instrument is under warranty?
    Thanks,

I've had the same problem with my fiance's phone, she only had the phone for 4 days and the screen cracked. Got hold of O2 and they said just send it back and we'll give you a replacement, however now we've found out that that information they gave us is incorrect, and that it is going to have to be assessed by an engineer and then repaired, at a cost they are unwilling to tell me.
I asked what criteria the 'engineers' would use to ascertain whether the phone is faulty or broken because of our own fault and they could'nt give me a sraight answer beyond the basis of if there has been damage caused by excessive pressure to the screen, which sounds like, if the screen has broken. This is troubling because I obviously wouldnt send it back unless the screen was broken. The phone has absolutley no damage to it, no scratches to the screen casing or likewise, it broken under conditions which can really be classified as 'less that normal use' as we were really very careful with it. The crack simply developed on its own. Having previously owned a Samsung Pixon which had a larger touchscreen pannel and I've given some quite bad drops to it it has survived fine! Why then is there this problem with the 5800?
If anyone else has had this problem please post on here! the more recognition this gets the better!

  • I have an 11 week old Macbook Pro that has 15 charge cycles and the design capacity is at 91%, is that normal or should I take my laptop into the store?

Hi, everyone I'm just wondering whether my battery life is normal. I've only had this macbook pro for a few weeks. According to coconut battery, as well as the information under about this macbook. The macbook is 11 weeks old and after 15 charge cycles it is at 91% design capacity? Is this normal or do I have a faulty macbook?

The batteries are supposed to hold 80% at 1,000 charges now - not sure when this started but was a couple of years ago maybe.
Personally I would not worry too much. If you actually notice a signigicantly bad drop in battery life after some time, instead of just by looking at numbers on charts, then yes take it to Apple, but for now, just enjoy your computer.
After more charge cycles, it may become more accurate too - when I first got my MacBook Air it was on about 94% after only 15 charges or so, now it's on about 620 and is on 84% or so which is on par with the 1000 charges -> 80%.
