No progress in boot bar

Hello, I've got this recent issue:
Everytime I turn on my Powerbook G4, with 10.4.7 the boot bar stops at certain point and the system never get to the login window. I've got no spinng thingy and the mouse is normal. I've followed all the guides relating to start up, disk repair, etc. So far what works is to delete the BootCache.playlist. I've got another partition in the same HD with 10.4.7 and everything just work fine. Strangly I cannot start up in safe mode.
BTW, once I delete the file and restart, the bar starts to progress but the login window appears before the bar is ended

There's some background on BootCache.playlist at Booting Mac OS X. The playlist is recreated when you trash the corrupted version. That it consistiently becomes corrupt again suggests something is either physically wrong with the hard drive, or the part of the System that updates the playlist is corrupt, or some third-party application is writing (badly) to what should be a protected system file.
You've already checked the hard drive. Can you start in Safe Mode if you disconnect all peripherals other than the Apple keyboard and mouse? If yes, add peripherals back one at a time (continuing to start in Safe Mode) until you determine what device is involved, then check for updates to whatever software is used with that device.
If Safe Mode fails with only the keyboard/mouse attached, see if the Unix file system check utility fsck reports anything. If fsck reports no problems, I'd suggest you make sure the contents of the first partition are backup up, that you have 5 GB or so free on it, then try an Archive and Install.
Since you appear to be comfortable with the details of your Mac (having the hard drive partitioned to separate bootable partitions is handy, isn't it?), you may want to see if AppleJack proves useful.

Flash Video doesn't show progress or load bar

I need to show a progress download bar and loading stripes
when stalling/loading (eg like youtube and millions of other online
video) otherwise the user thinks the video isn't loading or
playing.
I've tried two things:
1. Creating the flv using Flash Video Encoder results in a
40MB flv. I then insert the flv into my page in dreamweaver. The dw
tools pop up and I choose progressive download and my skin etc. The
resulting page plays the video fine but there's no progress bar or
loading stripes when the video is loading/stalling.
2. Inserting the video into a flash file and creating a swf
which is then inserted into the html page - as per the instructions

Displaying progress by horizontal bar at runtime

hi members,
how can i show a progress bar while running a certain procedure by pressing a button on the forms.
like when you do any installations of microsoft windows, you can see the progress of the installation by a status bar telling you the time left to complete the job.
i am using Forms [32 Bit] Version 6.0.8.8.0 (Production) and db 10g release 2.

So I turn it on, looks like its trying to go into safe mode? Fails anyhow. My TM backup disk got filled a couple of weeks ago and I hadn't sorted it out, but luckily had windows on bootcamp. It's the strangest thing I can boot into windows but not OSX.. Used macDrive to grab the changed files that I need which is pretty lucky really and I was surprised that it recognised the disk. So really the question I'm asking is why did this happen!?
P.S. Good with this kinda thing so advanced instructions are welcome, have tried all obvious things like repair with disk utility etc..

Boot bare metal from winpevhd?

Hi,
I created a winpe vhdx. I'd like to boot from it but bootbcd needs a windows folder in order to add it to the bootmenu.
F.e. bcdboot F:\windows (F: would be the mounted vhd then).
Can it be done?
Please advise.

Progress gauge or bar when exporting images

Hi,
am I missing a viewing option? When exporting images within Aperture the sprocket is spinning indicating that the images selected are being exported.
However,
I would like to see some type of a specific status during exporting, such as"
+"Exporting image 1 of 500, 2 of 500, etc.+
Is this available?

"Window→Show Activity" will provide some more information. You can bring up this window by clicking the spinning sprocket.

How to change the color of the progress bar and string

Is their anyway to change the color of the progress bar and the string which shows the progress of the bar. The current color of the bar is purple and i would like it to be red or blue so that it stands out against the background of the JFrame i am using. I dont want to change the color of the JFrame

I've had many replies on my previous questions about progress bars. I thank everybody who was concerned. But i still don't know if i have to use a seperate thread to run the progress of my bar... Can i have a progress bar in a Frame updating the progress of some file loading without having it in a seperate thread ?? I mean if i have an application that runs a Frame, this frame has buttons, textfields and other stuff, one of the buttons uploads a file chosen to a server. Now i also have a progress bar, can it keep progress of the upload without having it in a seperate thread ?? If yes, then how. Cause i can't seem to make it move unless the upload is done... I also want to know that, if i have to use a seperate thread, do i have to use something called a SwingWorker ???

Here's the deal....
If you don't use a separate thread, then your file upload process will block the main ("dispatch") thread until it has finished. This means that the GUI will not be updated to show your ever-growing progress bar. You'll see the bar start at zero, and then nothing will happen until the file finishes uploading, and then the bar will show 100%.
Even if you are updating the bar in a loop, changes will still not be displayed, because repaint requests get put on a queue, and they are executed only when the VM decides it has time to do them (ie when it's finished doing your file upload!)
So, yes you do need to use a thread to load your file and change your progress bar. and if that thread will update any GUI elements directly, start it by calling SwingUtilities.invokeLater(myThread). Also, make sure you do "myThread.setPriority(3);" (or thereabouts - make sure it's less than 5) on the thread before invoking it. This way, the main thread that updates the gui will have priority, so will update regularly.

Preloader progress bar not move in IE, but move well in Firefox

I have been in this problem for several days. I really got
frustrated about it. Pls. anybody can give me some help.
I created a general preloader using movieClipLoader object
and draw a progress bar using movieClip. I set the progress bar's
progress by setting bar_mc._x = percentage, and created as a swf
file. when test it , it works well, when open it using firefox, it
still work well, can show the gradual progress in the bar, but if I
using IE 6 or 7 to open it, it will not show the gradual progress ,
just jump from 0% to 100% after the whole file is completely
loaded.
I saw a note about progress bar not show graduate progress in
Flash Player 9, so I uninstall it and install Flash Player 8 again,
it is still like that.
I really don't know what 's the problem. Could any friends
give me some suggestion or idea, that will be greatly helpful.

Also, is there any way to remove unused styles (in an external CSS) in DW? Just it would be a pain to go through and remove the styles I've tried, but then later decided not to use.
Not exaclty a DW answer, but I've used the free FireFox add-on to help me find unused selectors. Point it to a sitemap.xml and it can spider the whole site (as listed in that xml file).

But be careful with it. It apparently doesn't read JavaScript and your PMM triggers are actually used.

Powerhsell progress bar during an operation

Hi,
Id like to try and use the progress bar features from
New-Object
System.Windows.Forms.ProgressBar
but I can't find any examples on how to use this during an operation.
I have a command which I use to create a CSV file with various user information..
Get-QADUser -sizelimit 0 | export-csv c:\pathtocsv.csv
what i'd like to do is get the progress bar to be displayed in a separate form whilst the operation from get-qaduser is performed.

Hi Denis,
your progress-bar form has a property named value (which takes an integer value. Set it to 40 and you get 40% progress on your bar).
The thing is, in order to calculate the percentage you are at, you need to know the maximum number, the current number
and find a way to write it during runtime.
And if I tried it, my boss would tell me to spend my time more usefully (If he caught me at it, that is).
Good luck if you go for it (and if there's a simple way that has eluded me: I'll be happy to learn a bit more :) )

Mountain lion flashing apple bar/flashing wallpaper/no dock?

i have a macbook pro that i bought april 2010. i bought ML from the app store about a month ago. im now having a few problems.
the battery died while my daughter was watching netflix so she plugged in the charger. i pressed the power button and left it. i walked away for a while and when i came back the screen was black. i assumed in sleep but it was off. i double checked the charger was correctly attached. OK. and pressed the little button on the side to see the battery level. 5/8 lights lit up so that was OK. i figured it a fluke and tried to power on again. it got to the grey apple screen with spinning gear and a progress bar came up at the bottom. there was no progression in the bar and about 5 seconds later the computer was off again.
my daughter THEN tells me that when the screen went black the first time she pressed a bunch of random buttons on the keyboard. i dont know if that can do anything or not.
i then tried to start with option. it was the only thing i could think to try, i used to have windows partitioned on my HD but erased that because i didnt use it and just had a small partition that i had time machine on.
i chose to try to restore with a time machine back up. it was seeming to work. restarted computer and signed in with my primary/admin account. it was moving very slow but was moving.
-slow startup
-computer seems lagged. im seeing the spinning color wheel after every click.
-in my admin account the dock is gone. i tried to change the settings to disable the dock hiding so it was always at the bottom of the screen...still no dock.
-my wallpaper and the right side of the apple bar at the top of the screen (wifi/clock/battery/etc) was flashing every few seconds on and off.
i tried to boot into safe mode to see if that would do anything.
i held shift key right after power button - gray apple screen/spinning gear. -power off
i held the shift key as soon as the start up chime started until the apple. -gray apple/spinning gear-no change for 2 hours. forced shut down with power button.
i waited until the end of the chime, held the shift key until the apple. -power off
after that i couldnt power on at all except in recovery mode. regular start up would take me to chime/apple/spinning gear/progress bar then shut down.
restored with time machine back up again. got to login screen and tried to login with my second/guest account.
-very slow/lagging/spinning color wheel
BUT the wallpaper isnt flashing to gray and the dock is in place.
but the right side of the apple bar at the top of my screen is flashing. i havent tried to log out of this account to try logging into my admin account yet... what should i do? any ideas?

Is this problem only affecting one user account?
Does booting in safe mode (hold down shift key at boot time) get you in?

IMac will not boot

Hello everyone,
I feel as though I'm fighting a lost battle, but just in case, I wanted to know if anyone could help before I throw in the towel.
So my iMac (early 2010, I believe), will not boot.
It gets stuck at the loading screen with the apple logo. The loading globe/icon is there but it just keeps going, and nothing changes. Another loading bar, which I assume is the one that appears when you try to boot in safe mode, shows up for a few seconds and disappears without any progression on the bar.
I've tried booting in safe mode, it doesn't work. The loading bar appears and disappears, that's it.
I've tried booting in recover mode AND internet recovery mode, doesn't work. While attempting to boot in recover mode, the apple logo and loading globe eventually disappear but then the screen is just white and blank, nothing else happens. With internet recover mode, the screen goes black, and immediately turns back on white and blank, but nothing else happens.
I've tried booting using single user mode, doing the fsck command. Tells me "keys are out of order", "HD could not be repaired", "file system was modified".
I've tried resetting the NVRAM with opt + cmd + P + R
I've tried resetting the PRAM, turning off my computer, unplugging everything, waiting 30 seconds, plugging everything back in, waiting 10 seconds, and turning it back on. And when I saw unplug/plugging everything, I just mean the power cord. My mouse and keyboard are wireless, and have not had anything else plugged in.
I do not have a boot disk, bc my os came digital, and I did not make a bootable copy.
I do not have another mac computer to try the target disk mode.
I do not want to go to apple so they can just scrap my HD, and everything that is on it.
I just need to boot it once so I can at least try to back everything up.
So what can I do?
Please, someone save me...

I know there aren't a lot of answers for this but, I don't know, maybe someone knows that target disk mode will have a good chance of working. Or is it possible to create a bootable disk, and that'll probably work? Or maybe one of you knows some magical trick to get my booting unstuck.
I just need my computer to boot once, ONCE, so I can back everything up and reformat, bc I know my HD is the problem, I know it's messed up. I just need a way to get it to boot once.

Booting stucked at 25% after Yosemite install.

Guys, i have this progress/booting bar and it is stucked at 25%. Tried to zap the pram. Rebooted several time and it is still stucked. it is a 2013 27" iMac so i dont have any cd and my time machine backup hd stopped working some days ago.
what should i do now??

This is what I did in Safari.
Click on Safari and select Preferences
Choose the Security option
Select Allow Plug-ins, then click on Manage Website Settings
Click on the Java item, select an option (Ask, Allow or Allow Always) from the pulldown list When visiting other websites
Click Done, then close the Safari Preferences window
And what if you do this, and these options are already selected...?

Clean Reinstall then Quad won't complete its Boot-Up

First I had problems with the Mac not recognising my Sony Video Camera.
I'm familiar with the Quicktime 7 issue, so I did all the QuickTime receipts/QT Fresh Install stuff. Still recognition of the camera was erratic and then seemed to be getting worse.
Next, my new (Feb 28 2006) G-Tech G-Raid 1tb went off the road - erratic recognition and VERY slow (if any) folder navigation - then ceased altogether.
Worse, the Quad suddenly started hanging and throwing up text:

Well, I did two hardware tests (at over 4 hours apiece) and nothing showed, so I erased and reinstalled.
I couldn't get the DVD drawer open, so I firewired to my G5 Dual and targetted the Quad.
This made seemed to help but the Quad still wasn't stable, so I did a fresh reinstall again by using the OS X Install Disk.
I ditched all but the basic install option.
Now the Quad won't finish Booting Up.
It gets to the end of the progress monitor (candy bar) thingy and then just hangs.
It'll boot from my LaCie 500 GB HD though - and seems to run OK from that.
What are my chances?

G5 Quad. 8 GB. 250 & 500 GB Int'l Drives. G-Tech G-Raid 1 TB. FCP 5.0.4 (Studio) Mac OS X (10.4.6) Sony HVR-Z1E. (Please forgive me if I misread your question).
I should add that after the first reinstall of OS X, I updated to 10.4.6 but after the second I didn't update.
ALSO (if it makes a difference) on both occasions, I reinstated my old library files.
I've done sporadic zapping of PRAMS and repairing of permissions along the way too.
I guess I'll do another clean reinstall without reinstating my library files - but without all those settings, I may well lose the will to live.

If you keep a clone of your pristine boot drive on a external drive, kept disconnected and in a safe place. Then if something like this happens you can disconnect the boot drive and option boot from the clone to isolate if it's a hardware or software problem right off.
Then you have the option with the clone to repair/recover or simply erase the original and reverse clone if it is indeed a screwed up boot drive.
(actually it's best to have two clones, each staggered a bit in time/updates just in case you hook up a clone to a infected machine and it too gets owned)
Cloning can only take minutes, and you can out to lunch while the clone is going on. Sure beats trying to find out what's exactly the problem.
Visit the free Carbon Copy Cloner forums for details. Search Apple for DejaVu which is a System Preference pane which combines auto-cloning and auto-backup. Clone once a week and backup daily for instance.
Always Erase w/Zero option all new drives, it checks every bit on the drive and maps off those bad sectors which is a cause of a lot of unusual behaviors.
