No sound from nVidea Graphics card HDMI using ASLA

I just installed arch for the first time using XFCE and SLiM, and for some reason I can't get sound through the HDMI port on my graphics card.

alsamixer -c0 gives me my webcam (just mike)
alsamixer -c1 give me the generic (posably my headphone jack)
alsamixer -c2 gives me the HDMI, but it just shows s/pdif and s/pdif 1 through 3
everything is on. just a side note, there's volume controls for alsamixer -c1 (volume as well as mute) but none for -c2, could this be part of the problem?

  • SR5139UK No sound with new graphics card

    Hi
I replaced my graphics card , as the picture was becoming blurred, and often froze when warm.  The new card is a ASUS EAH 5450  Silent card.  Now for some strange reason I no longer have any sound available from my computer.  If I insert the old card, i instantly get sound.  I have uninstall both the sound drivers for Realtek, and the graphic driver without resolving the problem.
    Any suggestions?

Are you using a HDMI connected monitor with internal speakers in the monitor? If you set HDMI as your default sound device in Realtek then you might get sound out of your standalone speakers.  There is a way to get both working by using a separate Y  audio cable into the back of your PC with one feed going to the monitor and the other to your standalone speakers.

  • No sound from RealTek audio card? [Solved]

I can't hear any sound from my laptop. This is what I executed:
    pacman -S alsa-utils
    gpasswd -a yourusername audio
    alsamixer
    aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
    alsactl store

Last edited by Zdravko (2008-04-22 12:36:38)

If I understand you correctly, you have installed all required alsa packages and tried to configure. What doesn't work is attempting to push up the volume via alsamixer/aumix etc., unmuting also does not work.
    Am I correct?
If so, you may have a similar issue to what happened to me a ways back. Is your current kernel up to date? The problem I had involved the fact that my sound card (though it was extremely common and, well, sh*tty) was affected by a feature regression in the ALSA code and an incompatibility with kernel in what was then [current]. I had to wait for the kernel to catch up to ALSA to do anything, but the regression had to be fixed before I could do anything useful.
Moral of the story (also known as the 'tl;dr' or 'too long; didn't read' version) - Try updating your kernel if all else has failed. If nothing useful comes out of that, try searching the ALSA site.

  • Does Lightroom2 render from the graphics card or the processor?

I have a PowerPC G4. My graphics card is a GeForce4 MX. I recently purchased a Radeon 9600 Pro Graphics Card. If I install this will it significantly improve my rendering speed in LR2? Or, does LR2 do most of it's rendering from the processor? Thanks for the advice.

I use and on-board IGP. After installing a dedicated PCI-E Radeon 2400 XT, I, well, have not noticed any difference at all, even in UI eye-candy effects smoothness.

  • Graphics card for use with FC Studio

So I'm purchasing a Mac Pro for use mainly with Final Cut Studio in the next few days, and I'm unsure as to which graphics card I should order, the GeForce 7300 GT or Radeon X1900 XT (I know nothing about video cards).
I won't be using much Motion, so the question is: in what ways does a better graphics card improve video editing? I understand that it would help for real time effects or previewing unrendered footage, but is that all? I'd love to hear some real world examples

    Adam,
Did you post this in the Final Cut Pro Discussion, too? You might get more detailed answers. I asked a similar (but more general) question there last week, and the clear consensus was that the performance boost from the Radeon -- across the board -- would be well worth the upgrade.

  • IMAC 2007 has broken crackly sound after new graphics card

My 2007 iMac recently had a black screen and has had a new graphics card installed by a local company. I've picked it up today but when I got the IMAC home the sound only seems to come out of the right speaker and is very broken and low, hardly audible, also the chime at start up was like this.
Does anyone know why this could have happened and is there anything I can do without having to take it back in?

Well one piece of advice I can offer is to always take a Mac (any Mac) to an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) or an Apple Store. If you took it somewhere that is not an AASP you never know the level of service you are getting. I would be willing to guess there is an AASP in your general area. If you don't know of one click https://locate.apple.com/lac/en/

  • Audio 12bit and  preference to change from 16bit & Graphic Card issues

I taped at 12bit audio and now while capturing to FCP after every clip I capture I get "Audio sample rated does not match source tape" I looked under my choices for Sequence presets and all I find is 16 bit. How can I switch this so I am supposedly synced and avoid the warning dialog box? My present settings are DV NTSC 48 kHz. I use a sony vx2000 with mini DV tapes. Of course next time I tape I will use 16bit audio to avoid this if I can't make the change.
Also has Apple resolved the deal with FCP using more than one Graphics card or do I have to remove two of the three Graphics cards just to use FCP still? Thanks all.

12-bit is 32k. 16-bit is 48k. If you shot in 32k you have to capture in 32k. Using the 48k default preset in FCP will produce the error message you see and make your audio drift out of sync, You have to create a custom capture preset that is set to 32k audio. In A.V Settings select the DV preset and duplicate it. In the lower right change the audio sample rate to 32k. Do the same for your sequence preset. Capture your media using the 32k preset and edit in the matching sequence.
In future change all your cameras to 16-bit so you record audio at 48k. That's the standard not 32k, despite it being the default for most consumer cameras.

Well see that's the weird thing, I've read a little about this and a lot of people have it switch when the render test runs because of power saving features in the graphics cards and such, but mine does the opposite, it starts in 3.0 and within 5 to 10 seconds switches down to 1.1.
if the freq. drops, it will also drop the gen version, its power saving feature of the card
stress the card with furmark or better render then watch out the gen version

  • What graphics card to use? (i3, 16GB Ram)

    Hello!
So I'm planning on upgrading my computer, since I am only moderatly pleased with the Intel onboard Graphics Card. I would also like to do it as cheap as possible (So for around 250$) I also need the card capacity to support 3 monitors.
    My current specs:
    Motherboard:      ASUS P8 LX Z77-V
    Prozessor:          Intel i3-3220T @2.80 GHz
    Memory:             16.0 Gb
    Power Supply:    500W
    OS:                    Windows 7, 64 Bit
    Storage:             2 Hard Drives
I'm mostly running AfterEffects and Premiere CS6 (Planning on a upgrading to CC) and would like to get as much speed for it as possible.
So I'm planning on buying an SSD to Export/Inport Footage and to store the Programm on. And now I need to find e fitting graphics card,
At first I was thinking an Nvidia GeForce GTX 760, but a friend of mine said my Processor and Memory wouldn't be enough to feed the card the data it can take, is that true?
He then told me that the GTX 650 would be good, but I personally aren't convinced it is good enough...
So what would you recommend me? I'm so lost :/
    Thanks alot
    Alec

    Alec,
If you go for that GTX 760, you'd only be throwing away good money after bad, in your instance (as cc_merchant has stated). I would only get that GPU if you're planning to upgrade the CPU and/or motherboard, as well as the amount of RAM and an additional number of disks, in the near future. If on the other hand you'll be stuck with that dual-core i3 for years to come, don't waste your money on anything higher than a 1GB GTX 650 since the i3 CPU doesn't handle the editing of any video at any resolution above 480i SD very well (I was going to say 320x240, but almost all 320x240 video is encoded in distribution codecs that are unsuitable for editing). The 2GB version of the GTX 650 is overkill for that present i3 setup, in this case, since the CPU just can't handle any content that requires more than 1GB of VRAM well.
As for the GT 640, be aware that there are two different versions of the GT 640: Most top-tier graphics card brands still sell the original version of the GT 640, based on a GK107 GPU and using 128-bit DDR3 VRAM that has a throughput of only 28.5 GB/s. A few lesser-known graphics card brands have started to sell a newer version of the GT 640, based on a GK208 GPU and 64-bit GDDR5 VRAM that has a throughput of 40.1 GB/s. But given the relatively low clock speed of that i3-3220T and the fact that it neither has a Turbo Boost feature nor can be overclocked at all, even the original GT 640 may suffice for many uses for that PC.

  • Video Monitor and Graphics Card- Your using and happy with!

Wondering what the group is using for LCD monitor/Graphics card pairing for your MacPro.  Interested on those above the 27" Apple Display
    thx

Okay, I'll bite. I have a Dell 30" 3007WFP LCD with an Acer 22" LCD on each side. The three monitors run off a ATI Radeon HD 5770. The Dell 30" runs off the bigger DVI port and the two Acers run off mini DVI ports.
I had to buy two ACTIVE mini DVI to DVI adapters to make them work. The regular adapters won't work with three monitors.
    They all play happy together.

  • Photoshop CC - force selection of graphics card when dual graphics cards in use

I have Photoshop CC on Win 8 with 2 graphics cards. The inbuilt and the extra card.
This enables me to utilise 4 monitors in my dev environment.
It is not practical to remove a card as I need all 4 monitors.
I have tested disabling each card (one at a time) and Photoshop finds the GPU and works fine.
    Q. Is there a FIX to force Photoshop to select a chosen Graphics Card?
Looking around the web, this seems like a large problem.
    Regards,
    Chris

As per tech specification of Photoshop CC you must require 512MB of vRAM of graphic driver installed.
    Tech Specification Photoshop CC:
    http://www.adobe.com/in/products/photoshop/tech-specs.html
Graphics ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB
The Graphics card installed on the machine have only 256MB vRAM.
Hereby, Photshop gives you warning to resolve it.

  • No sound after installing graphics card to replace original integrated graphics

I replaced my old monitor with a new Dell which has a displayport along with Soundbar that is connected to the PC by USB. Installed the hp AMD Radeon8490. The Catalyst Install Manager Installation Report shows theDisplay and Audio Drivers installed successfuly.  Here is  grab of the Sound device manager screens:
The Realtek  speakers are only used when I stream video from the PC  to a nearby Flat Panel TV using the a DVI cable.
I know that Windows 7 disables the original intgrated graphics on the motherboard. What needs to be done?  Do I need to add a sound card? There are two slots available that are both PCI Express x1.
    Thanks

    Hi:
See if the video card disabled the onboard audio.
There should be an onboard audio setting in the BIOS and it may have 3 options...Disabled, Auto and Enabled.
If the setting is on Disabled or Auto, change it to Enabled, save the setting there and again when you exit.
Reboot and see if you can use the onboard audio again.

Unfortunately I couldn't get the sound to work so far. It is not possible, to pass the sound via an external wire to the soundcard, as the tv-card has no external outputs.
    modprobe tvaudio
didn't have any effect. When I change the volume in tvtime, in kmix and alsamixer the "line"-lever moves accordingly. And: Yes, it is unmuted. I had this problem before (on Debian) and depending on the version either
    sox -c 1 -w -r 32000 -t alsa hw:1 -t alsa hw:0
    or
    sox -c 2 -s -w -r 32000 -t ossdsp /dev/dsp1 -t ossdsp -w -r 32000 /dev/dsp
did the trick. This is also what google, the forum search and several wikis proposed.
But now, the first command gives back:
sox soxio: Can't open input file `/dev/dsp1': No such file or directory
and the second command gives back:
sox soxio: Failed reading `hw:1': cannot open audio device
I wanted to avoid fiddling with the
    tuner=n channel=m
options, as it didn't have any effect earlier (on debian) and right now video is running smoothly. Never change a winning team.
I hardly think this might matter, but the TV-encoding system is PAL (Germany) and it's cable-tv.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
    cheers

Do you have the module saa7134-alsa? I have a hybrid card with that chipset, and don't use the analogue often but I think I had to explicitely load that module for sound to work.
