No sound in Elements 12

I don't get any sound in elements 12 by entering video clips, but sound effects are played. How do I get the sound from the original data? I tried avi and MP4.

Premiere Elements (and Photoshop Elements) are standalone products, not part of the cloud... with their own forums

  • How do I get Elements 13 64 bit to play .mts video files with sound as they do in Elements 11 32 bit?

    I have upgraded to Elements 13 64 bit from Elements 11 32 bit and .mts video files now play without sound - they still play perfectly with sound on Elements 11 32 bit.
    Is there something that needs to be changed to get Elements 13 to play them with sound or have Adope simply hooped .mts playback in Elements 13 64 bit?
    I am running on Windows 8.1 Professional with Media Centre on a Dell XPS15 and have Elements 13 64 bit and Elements 11 32 bit installed.
    Adobe, how do I get the support that is supposed to be available for 90 days after activation?

    Hello jl666,
    I have noticed the same issue having upgraded to PSE13 64bit from PSE9 on Windows 7.  This has been reported to Adobe in several forum threads and I have myself tried on three occasions to get Adobe Technical Support to acknowledge or respond to this issue, so far without any success.
    Despite the fact that Adobe publically claims to support this format, I was told in my last chat with their technical support that I should buy Premiere Pro and that Elements has never and does not support any video data...
    Unterstützte Dateiformate | Premiere Elements, Photoshop Elements
    Here is my chat transcript which I attach in the hope that someone from Adobe will take this issue seriously and work towards providing a fix.
    Sanyogita: Hello. Welcome to Adobe Technical Support.
    Jon Barber: .MTS files no longer play with sound. .DV files no longer play at all.
    Jon Barber: Hello
    Sanyogita: One moment while I look up your customer record.
    Sanyogita: Please allow me a moment to search for the information.
    Jon Barber: ok
    Sanyogita: I can see you have PSE 13
    Jon Barber: Correct and previously PSE 9 where everything worked fine...
    Sanyogita: MAy I know which application are you using for >MTS files
    Sanyogita: .MTS files
    Jon Barber: This issue is mentioned in various threads in your forums as well, but no response or solution from adobe yet
    Jon Barber: Organiser just double clicking on the file to play it. They play, but with no sound. When I play them in Windows the sound is correctly played
    Sanyogita: In PSE 13 there is no provision of playing videos with sound
    Sanyogita: You need premiere pro to play videos with sound
    Jon Barber: Other formats are correctly played with sound.
    Jon Barber: Please tell me why I have paid €80 to upgrade from PSE9 to get worse functionality then!
    Jon Barber: This is nonsense!
    Sanyogita: You should purchase Premiere pro for videos
    Sanyogita: PSE 13 is only for photos
    Jon Barber: Complete nonsense and not advertised in your documentation. Are you trying to tell me that no video files play with sound, because that is simply not true!
    Sanyogita: Please purchase Premiere elements for videos
    Jon Barber: Adobe sucks - I will pass your comments onto the appropriate forum threads and hope that other customers also let you know how they feel about this reduction in functionality from previous versions.
    Sanyogita: previous versions of PSE never supported video application
    Jon Barber: You are misinformed. These videos work fine on PSE 9 and most files still work on PSE13, just .MTS files have no sound
    Sanyogita: I am sorry ,I am not an expertise in this product
    Sanyogita: Let me connect you to that team
    Jon Barber: Yes,I can tell that - perhaps you could pass this open bug onto someone who does
    Jon Barber: Please do not close this bug - I am getting annoyed at having to reopen it
    Sanyogita: Please stay online I will transfer your chat now
    Jon Barber: ok thank you
    info: Please wait while I transfer the chat to the appropriate group.
    info: You are now chatting with Jayita Sen.
    Jayita Sen: Hello. Welcome to Adobe Technical Support.
    Jayita Sen: Please allow me a moment while I look into your account & verify the details.
    Jon Barber: Hello
    Jayita Sen: John we only support download &  first installation of PSE 13
    Jayita Sen: please contact the forums for further support
    Jon Barber: This issue is mentioned in several forums and no solution has so far been forthcoming from Adobe.
    Jon Barber: I paid €80 to upgrade from PSE9 and now have worse functionality than before and now you are telling me you cannot help. Is that what Adobe considers customer support?!
    Jon Barber: By the way I did recently download and initally install PSE13 so according to your rules you should provide support.
    Jayita Sen: Jon we don't support "Unexpected behaviours or how to issues"
    Jayita Sen: only forums support it
    Jon Barber: This is not a 'how to issue', it is a bug!
    Jon Barber: It is functionality that previously worked and no longer does. I am not requiring lessons in how to use the system, just trying to do something that already worked in previous versions.
    Jon Barber: Frankly I find these support responses from Adobe shocking. What I expect to hear from you is 'thank you for highlighting this issue, we will work on finding a solution and get back to you and others with the same problem in the customer forums" Not an extraordinary set of excuses for poor software.
    Jayita Sen: I am sorry Jon...but forums is where you can only get the support
    Jon Barber: Customers having to help customers since clearly no-one at Adobe has a clue about their own product. How many customers do you expect to have in 12 months with this service?
    Jon Barber: Goodbye - please contact me if you are geniunely interested in helping your customers rather than fobbing them off with excuses.

  • Cannot load media from organizer into premiere elements 9.0

    I have spent the majority of the day trying to load media into a new project in premiere elements to edit the video. When I select the video and click edit in premiere elements, premiere opens but no media is available. It never loads the videos. I can review the videos including sound in elements organizer. I have a Canon Vixia HFS10, the file types were loaded directly to the harddrive of the computer as .mts. I have changed the presets for the type and that doesnt seem to help. I have updated premiere 9.0, disabled security, updated windows (vista).
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,

    Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 on Windows Vista (32 or 64 bit?)
    Let us try the following before we get into an extensive exchange of problem details.
    Your Elements Organizer 9 .mts video that you are trying to import as media into a Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 project is only a thumbnail that traces back to the source video which exists saved to a computer hard drive location.
    What happens if you open a new project (with project preset set to match the properties of this particular video) and import this .mts video from the hard drive save location into the new project with Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1's Get Media/Files and Folders? Does the video import into the project?
    As an aside, do you have any other versions of Premiere Elements installed on your computer besides Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1? Also, is this a "it worked before, but now" or "it never worked before" problem?
    We will be watching for your follow up results.
    Thank you.

  • Total novice - canon 450d - elements 6 and raw files.

    Please help a total novice.
    I bought photoshop elements 6 a few months ago ( I have an oldish laptop and was worried it wouldn't cope with newer software)
    I then bought a canon 450d and started to take raw photo - elements cant read my raw files.
    I can see something about plug ins but it sounds like elements 6 isnt supported or is out of date.
    please help ( turned 40 this year and ability to use tech is on the slide so please be gentle!)

    I got a fantastic answer to this question about a week ago, got the plugin, installed and it worked fine.

  • .3GP codec needed for Premiere Elements 13

    How can I play back .3GP files in Premiere Elements 13? It says I need to install a codec first to play. Where can I download a compatible codec for Premiere Elements 13?

    5
    For the following 3gp file I am getting playback of video and audio in Premiere Elements 13 Editor and only video playback in the Elements Organizer 13.
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201549
    See if you get the same results with it.
    Note: This particular 3gp file uses MPEG-4 Video (mp4v) video compression and samr: AMR Narrowband audio compression.
    Also, please look at the following scenarios and then let me know if it makes any difference in the results obtained....
    1. This 3gp file is not in Elements Organizer to start.
    2. Open Premiere Elements 13 Editor project to its Expert workspace and import the 3gp file using Add Media/Files and Folders.
    Then drag the file from Project Assets to the Timeline (Video Track 1/Audio Track 1). Does the file play back with video and audio there?.
    3. Open the Elements Organizer 13. When you imported the file into the Premiere Elements 13 Editor, a copy of the file was automatically
    placed in the Elements Organizer 13.
    a. If you right click the file's thumbnail in Elements Organizer 13, do you see a video image in the thumbnail?
    b. If you double click the thumbnail do you get play back of video and audio?
    4. If you repeat the same thing with a DVD video file (VTS_01_1.VOB),
    a. video and sound in Premiere Elements 13 Editor?
    b. video and sound in Elements Organizer 13?
    In the case of the VOB, my results were
    Premiere Elements 13 Editor...playback video and audio
    Elements Organizer 13...playback of video but no audio
    This file uses MPEG2 video compression and Dolby Digital audio.
    Can you confirm the video and audio compression used by your 3gp files...please see GSpot codec utility.

  • Equium A110: Sound is gone - only system sound appears

    Can anybody help???
    I have a Toshiba Equium A110, my sound seems to have, well, gone...... I can hear system sounds, but nothing else, and the volume icon has disappeared from my tool bar.
    I have done everything I can think of in the control panel, but all of the volume/sound control elements within the control panel are greyed out, so I can't re-instate my sound icon, or adjust volume, or anything!!
    I have installed updates, and done just about everything as recommended in the help section, which was not very helpful!
    I am a bit of a computer idiot, so if anybody can help, please keep it simple!!
    Many, many thanks

    Hello Las
    If you have no much experience, try simply to roll back OS to earlier time. Maybe it will help to solve this problem. It is very easy to do:
    Start > All programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore. Choose option Restore my computer to an earlier time. Please choose some bold date on the calendar and follow the instructions on the screen.

  • What adaptor do i need?

    I was given a Power Mac G4 tower and an apple studio display, the transparent case display. As I am use to all in ones, I have no idea what adaptor I need to hook up the display.
    This is the info I got from the back of the tower: Manufactured in 1999
    400 MGZ/64/10/DVD/56K/KB/1MB L2 cache
    40 GB HD
    OSX 10.3
    It has a DVD-D port and a VGA port.
    The display also has 2 USB ports.
    The best way to explain this for me is, the plug on the display has 10 pins and the DVD-D has 8 holes. I know this sounds pretty elemental, but I am an idiot when it comes to this.

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
    Is THIS your monitor?
    If so, you need an ADC port equipped graphics card. There is a DVI to ADC adapter, but it only works with LCD monitors, and won't work with the 17" Studio Display CRT (ADC).
    One further problem- the G4 that you list, a 400mhz AGP graphics aka "Sawtooth", doesn't have the power to the AGP port that is required to run the ADC port.
    There was a 400mhz Gigabit Ethernet, but your production date is too early, and, the graphics card would have an ADC and a VGA port.
    That particular monitor will only work with an ADC graphics card equipped Gigabit Ethernet, Digital Audio, Quicksilver, or MDD.
    Confirm your graphics card ports HERE.

  • Wav into array??

    hello im using labview 8.5 and i was wondering how to read data from a wav file and then write the data into 1D array?? thank you... i can actually read the file by using Soun_File_Read.vi , but i need a 1d array..

    Use the index array to access the channel you want, then extract the Y array from that sound channel element. Pretty straight forward.

  • Anyone have these settings in their Quicktime?

    Anyone have these settings in their Quicktime? I got this tip from Worldstart.com this AM. I have this problem with I-Tunes when a song starts to play sometimes it stutters,skips. I tried to get QuickTime settings she tals about but I don't have them in Win QT 7.5
    Tip #3174 - iTunes Skips
    Every once in awhile, my iTunes music skips. It's fine when I'm listening to the music on my iPod, but if I'm just using my computer, it all skips. What's going on?
    A:
    Okay, so we have established that iTunes is a great musical discovery, but it leaves much to be desired when it starts to skip. Nobody likes to listen to their music with a bunch of stutters in between, am I right?! So, let's look at some reasons why iTunes might be doing this to you.
    You can use the task manager to shut down other programs to see if that stops the skipping, but that's not really too convenient for anyone.
    A lot of times, the skipping problem lies within the QuickTime program that you need to have in order for iTunes to work. There are a couple settings you can change in QuickTime to combat the stuttering issue. To do this, make sure your iTunes is shut down and go to Start, Control Panel. Once in there, double click on the QuickTime icon. You must be in the classic Control Panel view for this to work.
    (Tab is called QuickTime settings,I don't have in mine, only Preferences)
    Once in there, use the drop down menu at the very top of the dialogue box and choose Sound Out. This will allow you to work within the sound output elements of your QuickTime.
    (These also are tabs within QuickTime I don't have, and I have the very latest 7.5 QuickTime installed)
    Now, under the choice that says "Choose a device for playback," use the drop down menu and select "waveOut." You can then just close the QuickTime window. You don't need to press OK or anything, just completely close it out.
    Next, restart your iTunes and your skipping problem should be resolved. You can start listening to your music again, while doing your other work as well, without any further problems. Like I said before, you should try this little suggestion before you go out and get more RAM, but if the problem persists, that may be just what you'll have to do. Either way, it's worth it for your music, right?!
    ~ Erin

    That site is either a bit inaccurate or describes an earlier version of QuickTime. Go to the QuickTime control panel, double-click on it to open it (it will indeed open QuickTime Preferences), click on the Audio tab, and check the box that says "Safe Mode (waveOut only)". That has in some cases cured the "stuttering".
    Good luck.

  • Does Story have the vertical lining script for coverage feature?

    I see that you can create shots and there is a horizontal line situation but what about the traditional vertical lines on the page that represent coverage. Can story do that? Is there even a way to manually do it in story?

    There is an option to insert 'Sound Elements' (in Production menu) in the script. These elements get added vertically to the right side of the script.
    This could be similar to what you are looking for.

  • Variable Scoping

    I am making my first foray into AS and XML and am having an issue with variable scope.  What I am trying to do is create a global variable ("destinationURL", below) and set it to a value pulled from an XML file.
    The first trace() below returns "URL=[empty string"; the second trace() returns the expected value, a URL residing in the XML file.  Clearly I have some sort of scoping problem.  How do I get the event handler to set the value of the global "destinationURL" variable so I can access it outside the event handler function?
    var xmlDoc:XML = new XML();
    var loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    var req:URLRequest = new URLRequest("urls.xml");
    var destinationURL:String = "";
    loader.load(req);
    loader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, completeHandler);
    trace("URL = " + destinationURL);
    function completeHandler(evt:Event):void{
        xmlDoc = XML(evt.target.data);
        destinationURL=xmlDoc.url[0].@name;
        trace(destinationURL);

    DH

    OK -- the light just went on -- this works:
    // URL loading elements
    var xmlDoc:XML = new XML();
    var loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    var req:URLRequest = new URLRequest("urls.xml");
    var destinationURL:String = ""; // To be loaded from urls.xml
    function handleButtons():void { // Called by the XML loader when load is complete

        var st:SoundTransform = new SoundTransform();

        if (oldVolume > 0) {
             savedVolume = oldVolume;
        function muteAudio(event:MouseEvent):void
            if (st.volume==0) {
                st.volume=savedVolume;
            }else{
                st.volume=0;
            SoundMixer.soundTransform=st;
        // END sound event code
        // Navigate to the destination URL when the Enter Site button is clicked
        // based on the URL stored in urls.xml
        btnEnterSite.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, enterSite);  // Handle the Enter Site button
        function enterSite (event:MouseEvent):void
            var targetURL:URLRequest=new URLRequest(destinationURL);
            navigateToURL(targetURL, "_self");
        // END navigation code
    // END handleButtons()
    // Load the URL to be navigated to from "urls.xml"
    loader.load(req);
    loader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, completeHandler);
    function completeHandler(evt:Event):void{
        xmlDoc = XML(evt.target.data);

  • Premiere Elements 4 - No Sound in Editing Mode

    There is probably a simple answer to this. I've just begun playing with this software althought it is clear that I bought it a long time ago in a bundle with Photoshop Elements 6.0. I have no driving desire to create videos, but would like to be able to use the program to edit existing video files. I've some experience with audio editing using Audacity. I find it relatively intuitive and see some similarities between it and PE4.
    I opened the program, started a new project, used Files and Folders to import a mpg file that plays fine. I dragged the file from the right pane into the one on the left and I can see video and audio tracks. I begin playing the file. I can see the video change images, but I hear no audio. I don't see a 'volume' or audio on/off switch and am at a loss how to search for such in the Help file.
    I had one straightforward editing task that I could do based on images alone. I clipped the track at two points and deleted the selected portion and closed up the track. I think it is still seen as two clips, but I managed to export it as an avi file and that plays, with sound.
    Now I want to edit out 40 seconds from the 30 minute mpg and export that as an avi file. My edit requires that I be able to hear the audio. How do I get access to it while editing?
    thanks,
    baumgrenze

    You are most welcome.
    As that article states, there are a lot of places, where Audio must be set, from the system to the editing program, and then, depending on the Audio device (sound card, or chip), there might be additional places in the control console software for that device, where setting need to be made. Luckily, once the proper settings have been made, one should not have to make any changes, unless the swap out the sound device.
    Also, all sound devices will require a software driver to function fully, and especially in a program, like PrE. It is a good idea to periododically update that audio driver, just like one does with the video driver. If, after all settings have been correctly applied, and the sound fails, that would be the first action - update the audio driver.
    Good luck, and looks like you can mark your question as Answered. Happy editing.
