What keeps making the cyclical noise while in sleep?  Sounds like iMac is loading a graphic or different screen.  Does it periodically while in sleep mode.  How do I correct this?  Just started doing it in the last few months.

I finally figured out how to fix this.  First I reviewed "Mac OS X: Why your Mac might not sleep of stay in sleep mode."  I noted the bullet:  "Do you have any other external USB or Firewire devices connected?"  I have an CP685AVR for a UPS for my Mac.  I replaced the battery a few months ago.  I also hooked up Apple's 'Energy Saver' power management software to the CP685AVR using the USB connection.  I disconnected it, and that solved the problem.  I still have the UPS and battery back-up; I just can't "monitor" the battery.  What's to monitor?  It always said the battery was 100% charged even right up to the time the previous battery failed.  Thanks for listening, uh... reading.

Just to elaborate further; if the Windows OS has been previously installed, go to the bootcamp assistant in OSX (found in applications/utilities). There you will have the option to burn a disk or  download the needed drivers to a USB flash drive. After getting the necessary files downloaded/burned proceed and start your Windows partition, run the installer from the disc. This should solve the problem.

  • Disable sound on imac in target display mode

Have a question about disabling the sound.
I have a MacBook Pro connected to my iMac by the thunderbolt cable. I enable the target display mode on iMac with a script for disabling some configurations on iMac ( including the bluetooth for mouse and keyboard steal ).
I set the sound output in the MacBook Pro to the iMac DisplayPort.
The problem is now i have both outputs on iMac speakers. i want to disable all sound from iMac but keep the output from MacBook Pro on iMac speakers.
    Is this posible?
    Thanks.

Humm... I might go TosLink between the iMac and the FastTrack and then run the USB connection to the MacBook Pro when your using it in Target Display Mode.
Or vise Versa, leave the USB connected to the iMac and use the TosLink connection for the MacBook Pro.

  • Surround sound for iMac

I have Creative Inspire 4.1 4400 (http://static.clickbd.com/global/classified/item_img/895644_0_original.jpg), and I would like to get surround sound from speakers when I watch movies. I have done some research for some time, and I have no idea how to connect this to iMac.
The speaker system has green and black cables (3.5mm). For now, I only have green cable connected to iMac, and I somehow get sound from all 4 speakers + subwoofer. But it is not a true surround effect since the sounds from rear speakers are the same as front speakers.
This is what the speaker system looks like: http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/995/dsc02837n.jpg
So, what do I need to get to have surround sound on iMac?

Here is the video of the set-up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKA7nbdyAaQ&feature=youtu.be
Again, this is what my speaker is: http://static.clickbd.com/global/classified/item_img/895644_0_original.jpg
Here is the picture of the back of the subwoofer:http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/995/dsc02837n.jpg
The green cable is for front speakers while black cable is for rear speakers. It doesn't have a separate cable for subwoofer.
After doing some research, I've read that this speaker system is "not compatible with optical SPDIF sound cards." Is that related to the sound card I bought?

  • Have an iMac Early 2008 + Windows 7 and no sound from speaker out? SOLVED!!

    Hello everyone,
So I'm pleased to say after over a month of trying to solve this annoying problem, it's been solved! Basically, if you have an iMac, Early 2008 edition (8,1) and Windows 7 and notice that the default microsoft driver gives very low sound and the new realtek drivers only give sound through the internal speakers... then this solution is for you!
    What you'll need:
    7-zip (www.7-zip.com)
Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard Disc 1 (NOT Snow Leopard!)
Here's what you'll need to do, step by step:
    1) Uninstall the Realtek Driver (latest version currently 2.37) by going to Control Panel / Programs / Uninstall Programs.
    2) Reboot. Upon reboot, the system will automatically reinstall the default Microsoft drivers. You can check this in Device Manager (control panel / system / device manager).
    3) Insert the original Leopard Disc 1 that came with your iMac (very important, as this is the only driver I know for sure will work). Point windows explorer to the folder: D:\Boot Camp\Drivers (assuming d: is your cd-rom drive).
    4) Copy the "RealTekSetup.exe" file somewhere on your desktop. Do NOT install it!
    5) Decompress "RealTekSetup.exe" by right clicking the file and choosing "7-zip decompress". Again, you'll need to make sure you installed 7-zip from 7zip.com prior to doing this.
    6) Go to your Device Manager again, right click the sound device (which should be something like High Definition Audio) and choose "Update Device Software".
    7) Select "Browse my computer for driver software" and direct it to the folder that you extracted the drivers to.
    8) You now have sound through your EXTERNAL SPEAKERS!
This works because there is a bug that RealTek/Apple does not seem to want to fix where the newer version of the RealTek control panel detects the speaker out as line in and the line in as nothing! This forces drivers normally made for Vista or Vista64 to install on Windows 7, which work 100% great.
I promise you, if you have an Early 2008 iMac, this WILL fix your problem if you follow each step! Let me know if you have any questions!
    Brad Levicoff

If you don't have any Leopard disk then just google for "Vista_R199.exe".
This driver works nice on Early 2008 IMAC. I also tried an earlier version, Vista_R182.exe but there sometimes was a horrible background noise which made listening to music impossible.
Just download and follow the instructions above in the first post.
    Have fun.

  • Broke my sound, can't find soundcard now? [SOLVED]

    Hi,
I'm having some trouble with my sound and it's escalated to the level where I'm not sure if my soundcard is even detected.
The story so far: A few months ago I invested in a Xonar DX sound card and some days ago tried to make it work in an existing Arch installation. I wasn't sure precisely what to do, so I followed the installation guide here (http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index. … e-virtuoso) to the letter and, hey, it worked so I was happy. I hadn't uninstalled my previous ALSA config or anything like that though, just wanted to get it working really.
Yesterday, I assume after the latest kernel update, the DX stopped working but my integrated Realtek still worked. Today I tried fixing it by first following those steps again, but that resulted in no sound card working. So I uninstalled everything ('make uninstall' in the src folders for the custom installed drivers, 'pacman -Rd' for alsa-lib, alsa-utils and alsa-oss, 'd' so I woulnd't have to uninstall every library depending on ALSA) and started from the beginning. Now I can't even get my integrated card working again.
    lsmod|grep '^snd'
    outputs nothing.
    /dev/snd/
    doesn't exist.
    modprobe snd-virtuoso
gives "No such file or directory"
So, what should I do next? Will be grateful for any help I can get.
    Thanks!

Nevermind, solved it by reinstalling the kernel and even got my new sound card to work without compiling custom drivers Just by installing asoundconf from AUR and configuring it to prefer my DX instead of the integrated. Thinking about updating the wiki on this front, since the ALSA article right now doesn't mention anything about multiple sound cards.
Is there any other easy way to select sound card?

  • IMac high pitch sound (4th iMac in a week). Any improvements?

    Hello,
I know there is a lot of forum posts on the internet about this, as I've spent about two days reading them (primarily from my iPhone as my screen sound drives me up the wall).
As some people have experienced, this is a result of changing the brightness (0% and 100% are fine, anything in between emits a high pitched whine...some people believe this is a result of the capacitors vibrating at around 15-16Hz, which would make sense).
I have actually gone through four separate iMacs in a week to try to fix this problem (and two being upgrades over the model I had in hopes of a different production run). I have checked the serial number on all of them and they were all build between September and October, at various weeks between, mostly within a 4 week window.
I am beyond my wits with this issue and not sure what to do now. I have spent nearly 20 hours setting up four separate computers only to format them to take back in a chance I am lucky enough to get one that I can dim at night time without getting a ringing sound in my ear.
I was wondering if anyone else who has experienced this issue has come across a solution, or at least a replacement that has worked? I am debating to go for number five, but honestly, I am almost too tired of boxing and driving, boxing and drive (rinse and repeat). (I even tried three separate stores in hopes to get a different production week that didn't have this issue).
Looking forward to your responses, and any guidance. I love this machine and I wish it just stopped having these issues so I could do some work...
    Setup(s):
    First two:
    21.5" iMac 3.06GHz Intel Core i3
    4GB RAM
    500GB HDD
    ATI Radeon 4670
    Next two:
    21.5" iMac 3.2GHz Intel Core i3
    4GB RAM
    1TB HDD
    ATI Radeon 5670
    Thank you,
    Adam

I started having this problem yesterday on my late 2009 iMac 27 inch after I changed my HDD.
It was perfectly fine before however after the swap however after a high pitch noise occurred when I increased the display brightness. So Just this morning I pulled my iMac apart again and unplugged the screen again and had a look at the connectors. all were fine except for the Vertical Sync ribbon
The 4 flat wires/ribbons that are exposed on the end are supposed to be glued to the thin piece of plastic that plugs into the socket on the circuit board. This circuit board is on the top left hand corner of the iMac as well which is where people say the sound is coming from.
I am not sure if this will solve all the problems out there but its worth a look.

  • No sound on iMac Intel 24'' EMC 2267 after hard drive replacement

I replaced my hard drive on my iMac Intel 24'' EMC 2267, due to numerous bad blocks, by following all the instructions on iFixit.com. I did not experience any problems.
I then installed all my files from a Time Machine backup. There were no problems with the restoration of my files. It seems that my new hard drive works beautifully.
However, one serious problem I have is that now there is no sound on my iMac. There is no startup chime, and there are no other sounds. When clicking on Sound in System preferences, it says that there are "no output devices found".
When opening system profiler, in the Audio (built-in) tab it says "Audio ID: 0"
I re-opeend my iMac to make sure that all cables were connected properly, and I did not manage to spot any problems.
I tried to reset PRAM and EMC but these did not solve the problem. I am working under MacOS X 10.6.8
Can someone help please? Any information provided will be most appreciated. Thanks in advance for your support.
    Regards - Gina

I think when you replaced your hard drive you bumped into the daughter board and that is for the sound and the wireless, You need to get another daughterboard or contact the Apple Store if your Mac is stilll under warranty.

  • Distorted sound on iMac with Windows 7

    Hi,
I've just upgraded from Windows Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Home Premium.
Before the sound worked perfect, but now it is very distorted.
When I mute windows I can still hear sound - it is just a bit more distorted and at a bit lower volume.
I tried to upgrade the sound card driver from Realtek, but lost sound completely. I reinstalled the Apple driver and now I have distorted sound again.
I'm running Boot Camp 3.1 drivers.
Does any one know how to solve this problem?
    /Tejs

Can you find out which drivers you currently have for me please.
go to Start >> right click Computer >> System Properties >> System >> Device Manager
Now open up the sound, video and game controllers section and there should be something correlating to your sound driver here, if you could give me the name or the driver name if possible.
also what iMac model are you running.

  • Sound input read multiple soundcards

    Heey everybody,
I have a problem. I want to read two different signals at the same time from 2 different soundcards. 1 internal soundcard from my laptop, and 1 usb soundcard.
So i used the Acquire Sound VI.
Reading both signals at the same time is not a problem until i set the measuring time to about more that 30 seconds. It gets a buffer overflow.
So i tried to do the following:
I first made this with 1 signal first, and it worked perfectly, every second it got updated.
But, when i added the second signal it only wanted to read the first second of the first signal and then it got stuck, and i had to stop the software by closing it. And then killing labview with the taskmanagement thingey from windows.
Anyone have any idea what the problem is?
    Greetings,
    Jory
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Ok, never mind, i've solved it. I made the buffers larger (at the sound input configure block) and now it works like a charm

  • Creative x-FI 5.1 Sound on iMac ?

    Hi
I have my First Apple Computer iMac 27" Late 2012. On my Old Windows Laptop I Used a Soundcard Creatice X-FI and a 5.1 speaker Set from Logitech. Can I use this also now for the iMac to hear 5.1 Sound for Exempel by DVD Movies?
When i connect the Creative Card to the Mac only the Front speaker are working. Because I am not a Specialist I do not find settings to set up the System in the right way. I Hope to find hear some help.

'Re: Creative X-Fi 5. Surround Problem. Hi,
As far as I know, you can only get stereo audio from the optical output unless you are playing encoded Dolby or DTS audio. See this link for more info. http://forums.creative.com/creativel...&thread.id=270
For your analog output, it seems strange that your speaker test only have audio in the front left and right but music is ok. Maybe you can try using earphone or something and connect to the rear jack and the centre/subwoofer jack to see if you can hear any audio from them? This may help to check if the problem is due to audio not coming out from your x-fi 5. surround or due to your speakers setup. It should also help to know which version of drivers you are running on. You may also want to try the new beta drivers that was release in Feb just to check.
