No sound on Intel Corporation Lynx Point-LP HD Audio Controller

I've just installed Arch on a Dell Vostro 5470 (there's nothing on it's wiki page about sound). alsamixer shows only S/PDIF, S/PDIF 2, S/PDIF 3, which can' t be changed.

Reread your own post. You have two cards using snd-hda-intel module, use vid and pid to set PCH as default. Step by step on wiki.
Edit: I took the PCH name from your 'dmesg | grep sound', people usually post 'aplay -l', but to determine the id one can also use:
cat /proc/asound/card*/id
The output of that should produce in your case:
HDMI
PCH
PCH is your analog output, HDMI is your digital output though graphics card. By reordering modules, PCH with be your default (first on the list). If you only use alsa, you can also use other methods described on the wiki, this method is recommended however, because when you choose to use a sound server like pulseaudio, it will not cause any additional problems.

Did changing the MODULES array fix your problem? If so, post a note to that effect and mark this thread '[Solved]' (by editing your O/P). Help the next poor soul in your boots.
It not, post THAT! Also, ralvez makes an excellent point (two, actually):
    (A) I had a pair of speakers go bad on me DURING a(n Arch) Linux install. Fought it for 2 weeks because, "...I KNEW they were working." Swapped them out with a $5 pair from the closet in desperation. Problem solved...
    (B) from the output you've shared, I agree; it appears ALSA IS 'working'. Just not for you...
Not trying to insult your intelligence, believe me; just trying to cover as many bases as possible here:
You do have checked to insure the speaker cable(s) are plugged into the right port(s), right? I've pulled that one before, also (no pun intended...).
And some really sneaky cards have  a volume thumbwheel ON THE CARD BACK, next to the speaker ports. I was fooling around with a card just above the sound card once, and apparently merely brushed my hand against to thumbwheel. Sound mysteriously disappeared. I've had my battles with Linux/sound/ME (as in MYSELF - NOT an old 'product' by M$...).
Don't worry about Blacklisting snd-pcsp. It only drives the PC speaker (beep! beep! beep! beep!).
    # sed s/beep!/FingerNailScratchingChalkBoard/     #
why does it say bash-3.2$ as opposed to user@box$ or something like that?
Have you, as root, from the /root directory, done a 'cp /etc/skel/* .' ?  When I forget to, that's ALWAYS what reminds me to do it.  The Arch installer doesn't copy these to /root during install, and, of course, root is ALREADY set up as a user, so useradd doesn't have a chance to do it for you. It seems to take care of your GROUP entries, but it doesn't copy the skel files. You really only need the .bash* files; since you really shouldn't EVER run X as root, you don't need .xinitrc.
RE: your modules. I installed Arch64 alongside Arch32 a few months back (my sound chip at the time was a RealTech (RealTec? Realtek?)). I had the same problem - sound worked fine in Arch32 but nada in Arch64.
In /etc/rc.conf, I replaced the line:
    MODULES (mii via-rhine ac97_bus sound_module after_sound_module after_sound_module after_sound_module after_sound_module)
    with
    MODULES ()
    #MODULES (mii via-rhine ac97_bus sound_module after_sound_module after_sound_module after_sound_module after_sound_module)
and everything worked beautifully. EVERYTHING. In fact, even today, ALL the (small number of) entries I have in MODULES, begin with '!'  !!! Module autoloading is pretty robust today (in Arch, anyway).
YOU likely need at least the loop and fuse modules; you know more about that than I. But I also had 2 network drivers at the beginning of the MODULES array, and they load fine all by themselves. YMMV. And sorry for the tome; I tend to be <s>thorough</> massively verbose.

  • Sound from speakers Intel Corporation 82801JI

I just installed alsa , and when there is no sound playing i get a noise trough my speakers, sounds like my coimpueter has a pulse lol
here is the audio line from lspci

How can i stop this nouse?
any pointers will be appriciated, thanks Markp1989

The power meter or the speakers or the cables aren't properly shielded. My bet is on the meter.
If you wish to use the power meter, move the speakers and all cables as far away from the meter as possible and move the power meter as far away from your computer as you can. My own preference would be to not use the meter. Or I'd learn to dance to the beat.

I was just going "...wow, ouch..." at the screenshot and since the model name looked old (and a quick google afterwards revealed that it wasn't), I marvelled at how Linux could manage to display so many colors [on the supposedly old hardware I thought was sitting behind that model name].
Crazy thought, but it sparked an idea: perhaps lower the display depth?

Start with option snd_hda_intel model=hp-bpc-d7000 and reboot your computer. If it doesn't work, try with some other option from the list bellow... Good luck!

  • Intel Corporation 82865G graphic card - 160fps in glxgears

    Again Im here ((:
as topis says my grafhic card Intel Corporation 82865G is running on 160fps in glxgears...
    installation looked like this :
    pacman -S xf86-video-intel
    gpasswd -a username video
    and result:
    $ glxgears
    731 frames in 5.0 seconds = 145.987 FPS
    711 frames in 5.0 seconds = 142.138 FPS
    709 frames in 5.0 seconds = 141.796 FPS
    724 frames in 5.0 seconds = 144.790 FPS
    $ glxinfo | grep rendering
    direct rendering: Yes
I know that glxgears should not be used as performance test, but this is really disappointing... In last arch instalation I was getting around 250 and whan I boot into ubuntu 7.04 live cd its around 300fps... something must be wrong!
can someone give me a hand?
    thanks

Gusar wrote:Intel driver only uses UXA, everything else was removed a few versions ago. And glxgears really is not a benchmark, those numbers are meaningless. The question is, does everything work ok, or does it work slower than it used to?

Hi there, a couple of times the windows update on my windows 7  won't update the Intel Corporation - Display - Intel (R) HD Graphics.
    What could be the problem?
    How can this be solved?

    Hello palette35,
    Welcome to the community.
You’re having problems with windows not updating the graphics.
It could be security setting blocking the update
You can go to HP.com and download the driver directly.
Here is a link to the site. You’ll need your product number.
Let me know if this helps.

  • [SOLVED] Choppy sound with Intel audio card

Ever since I bought this laptop and installed Arch, I have experienced this annoying choppiness.
What happens is that when I highlight other windows, under the minimum memory/cpu load the sound is truncated. I can't listen to music pleasantly on my laptop, and I can't stand it.
My laptop is a HP 530, with an integrated Intel audio card. This is the output from hwd -s:
    Sound(a) : 82801G ICH7 Family High Definition Audio Controller module: snd-hda-intel
I have 1Gb of RAM, and the processor doesn't seem very busy when the sound is truncated. This happens under any DE/WM - even in tty!
For what is worth, I had problems with the speakers not muting when the headphones were plugged in, and I have followed the method indicated here.
    Thanks for your time.

Auto is the default, it might not be resolving the model correctly (that's the case with my laptop).  Try model=hp.
If that doesn't work, you could try turning off power saving:
    options snd-hda-intel power_save=0

I've tried both the headphone jack and the USB port. Please help! I don't want to have to be stuck using my internal speakers!

    Michael,
Thanks. I haven't mixed down the audio or checked the number of tracks in Prefs. Good points.
As far as a mixdown goes, I'll definitely give it a try, though I wonder whether or not the tracks will be recognized during mix down recording - given that you can't hear either of those segments in playback. Just have to try.
Re the preferred number of allowed tracks - I'll go check as soon as I send this off, but I'm not sure that applies in this case, since the two Channels containing the segments that are pinked out are not in additional tracks. I should have mentioned that other audio clips and segments on the same Channels in the SAME tracks ARE heard in playback. As are two additional track in the 2nd Sequence. It's only when the two sequences are joined that the pink tinted segments can't be heard. Within the sequence the same audio cuts playback as they should. Thanks again &
    Best regards,
    David

  • No sound on VIA high definition audio controller (i think)

This is what should make sound on my laptop:
04:01.0 Audio device: VIA Technologies, Inc. VIA High Definition Audio Controller (rev 10)
    aplay -l  shows:
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
    card 0: VT82xx [HDA VIA VT82xx], device 0: VT1708 Analog [VT1708 Analog]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
    card 0: VT82xx [HDA VIA VT82xx], device 6: Si3054 Modem [Si3054 Modem]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
I have tried both the snd_hda_intel and snd_via82xx drivers but they both don't work... even with this modprobe.conf:
    alias char-major-116 snd
    alias char-major-14 soundcore
    alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
    alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
    alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
    alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
    alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
    alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
    alias /dev/mixer snd-mixer-oss
    alias /dev/dsp snd-pcm-oss
    alias /dev/midi snd-seq-oss
    No sound whatsoever though

Try using the ac97_quirk option in modprobe.conf:
    options snd-via82xx ac97_quirk=n
Where n ranges from 0 to 3. Start with 0 and work your way up.

    Hey there JaniceBud,
It sounds like you are unable to hear any audio from your Apple TV but the same HDMI cable to a computer works fine. If it has never worked with your Apple TV, use this article to help troubleshoot the issue:

  • Lenovo G500 - Intel Rapid Storage Technology" SATA disk on Controller 0, Port Unknown detected"

    Hi Folks,
I have a lenovo G500 laptop which i had purchased during thanksgiving vaction in 2013. The machine was working fine till June 2014 when I stated getting Blue Screen of death with error messages "irql_not_less_or_equal" The OS was windows 8.1. This created lot of problem while booting , the machine would not boot at all.
Along with this message I started getting this message "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" SATA disk on Controller 0, Port Unknown detected".  This message was coming very often.
I along with Lenovo support did all the things possible, like factory reset etc. Finally the machine was sent out to depot for repair in July 2014. They replaced the hard drive and sent the machine back.
I got the machine back on 22nd July and since last week ,ie, 14th July I have started to get the issues again. My IE and Firefox will suddenly hangon and the blue screen will appear again with same message "irql_not_less_or_equal" occasionally. Yesterday i started getting Sata disk message again.
I wanted to understand why this message is coming back along with blue screen of death. Is there some problem with Windows OS or hard disk seems to crash again?
    Thanks in advance
    shailesh

    hi Shailesh,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
From this article, this is the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL possible cause:
"This bug check is issued if paged memory (or invalid memory) is accessed when the IRQL is too high.
The error that generates this bug check usually occurs after the installation of a faulty device driver, system service, or BIOS.
If you encounter bug check 0xA while upgrading to a later version of Windows, this error might be caused by a device driver, a system service, a virus scanner, or a backup tool that is incompatible with the new version."
From your description, It's possible that the HDD or the RAM is faulty but it's also possible that it's a software (driver) issue -- which is the hard drive (SATA) controller.
    To verify, I would:
    1. Run a diagnostic on the HDD (via Lenovo's Storage Quick Test or via HD Tune)
    2. Run a diagnostic on the RAM (via Memtest86+)
       - RAM - Test with Memtest86+
3, Read the BSOD dump file to see what file caused the crash
       - How to solve Windows 8 crashes in less than a minute
       - If the file is associated with the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver (SATA Controller), uninstall the software from the Control Panel > Programs and let Windows install a generic Windows driver.
       - Link to picture
If you get an error after running the diagnostic test, I recommend you contact Lenovo and report the issue.

How do i ensure the new access point is joined the controller or not

To Verifying that Access Points Join the Controller or not there are two ways as below.
Please go through the step by step to find the APs joined state
When replacing a controller, you need to make sure that access points join the new controller.
Using the GUI to Verify that Access Points Join the Controller
Follow these steps to ensure that access points join the new controller.
Step 1 Follow these steps to configure the new controller as a master controller.
    a. Click Controller > Advanced > Master Controller Mode to open the Master Controller Configuration page.
    b. Check the Master Controller Mode check box.
    c. Click Apply to commit your changes.
    d. Click Save Configuration to save your changes.
Step 2 (Optional) Flush the ARP and MAC address tables within the network infrastructure. Ask your network administrator for more information about this step.
Step 3 Restart the access points.
Step 4 Once all the access points have joined the new controller, configure the controller not to be a master controller by unchecking the Master Controller Mode check box on the Master Controller Configuration page.
Using the CLI to Verify that Access Points Join the Controller
Follow these steps to ensure that access points join the new controller.
Step 1 To configure the new controller as a master controller, enter this command:
    config network master-base enable
Step 2 (Optional) Flush the ARP and MAC address tables within the network infrastructure. Ask your network administrator for more information about this step.
