No sound solved

Hi,
My integrated audio line outs have been mute since I got my mother board four months ago. I finally managad to solve the problem. It was a loose jumper in a front panel audio connector on the motherboard. You couldn't notice it by naked eye. MB didn't redirect sound back from the front panel connector to the integrated line outs. Hammering the jumper obviously solved the problem.
Now, I need to get ICH5 and Maxtor Diamondmax SATA play together =)
Mikko Ohtamaa

Good Find .........And Good Luck on trying to get those two(Maxtor S-ATA) and the ICH5 to play well together, As last I heard they were still Fighting ........Maybe a Patch for  the S-ATA Drives is  in the Works ..........Sean REILLY875

  • New install from ftp and cd no sound SOLVED

    Hi,
I've done everything I can find to get sound on this new ftp install but can't get sound to work with the 2.6.23 kernel.
I've updated a couple of other systems to the new kernel and it has kept sounds working fine but not this new install. I've unmuted everthing and raised levels etc.
modprobe .conf has this from running alsaconf
    # --- BEGIN: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---
    # --- ALSACONF version 1.0.15 ---
    alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
    alias sound-slot-0 snd-intel8x0
    # --- END: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---
Please can you give me some tips. I've a feeling it's something silly I've not got quite checked off right in alsamixer.
/etc/rc.d/alsa start is done and alsa is in my rc.conf daemons.
    Thanks
    Regards
    edit;
I've done another install from cd this time and said no to update to kernel 2.6.23 so now I've got 2.6.22 and sound still does not work. I've done many Arch installs before and never had this problem. what could I have overlooked? xmms with streamtuner is receiving signal but no sound. No system sounds either.

Nope no errors from VLC or Rhythmbox.
Though i noticed in the volume mixer, i now have 2 devices, which i don't think i had before...
Usually i'd have my webcam or usb headset plugged in, but they're not atm, just my soundcard.

  • Xbmc-standalone no sound [SOLVED]

    Hi All,
I have re-installed my media box and decided to go standalone this time instead of using a window manager.
Everything has installed fine except when stock standard xbmc plays music/video there is no sound.
Alsa libs is installed but alsaplayer also does not play anything .... what am I missing?
I have made sure that pulseaudio is not installed as I have heard issues with that ... how do I get ALSA to play?
Is there a way to check devices and if they are muted?
    Thanks,
    B.
EDIT: I found I had to unmute the IEC958 output (optical coax) by  the command "amixer set 'IEC958' 100 unmute"
Now at least I have system sounds ... i.e I get the clicking sounds while navigating the menu items, but still get no sound
when playing music/videos etc. XBMC complains about: "cannot initialize output device"

    What's the output of
    aplay -L
Have you unmuted the everything relevant in alsamixer?
Have you set up the audio output in XBMC's settings? (System --> Settings --> System --> Audio Output)

  • Enemy Territory no sound [solved]

my SB live works fine with either esd or alsa but nothing comes through under ET.
    Is there a fix?

Indeed there is. I'll tell you what I did.
add this to your /etc/devfsd.conf file:
    REGISTER ^sound/.* PERMISSIONS root.audio 0660
    REGISTER ^snd/.* PERMISSIONS root.audio 0660
then (if you dont already have an "audio" group), do the following as root
    groupadd audio
then add your user account into the group via ( usermod -G audio username ).
restart the devfs deamon, so the changes will take effect. And the sound shound now work. I had just figured this out today, as I was playing with no sound in et for a couple of days now.

  • Alsa No sound {solved: PEBCAK error}

All modules loaded, wiki followed.  Sometime after the update, sound is dead.  Alsa is working perfectly on paper, all analog is unmuted, all digital is muted.  Everything shows good.
No sound.  Is there a bug already submitted?  Ready
    to submit.

Yeah, I'll go over everything again.  I don't have any outside controls that I know of outside of alsamixer because I'm in Fluxbox, but I might start uninstalling things until sound starts working hopefully.  I started thinking and realised it could be a program conflict.  My card is an Audigy 4 using the Audigy 2 Value driver [which is usual].  And for alsa not to be fussing at all?  Very strange, but maybe there is still an error message somewhere.

  • 2.6.33, alsa fails to load/no sound[SOLVED]

Ever since the move to the 2.6.33 kernel, I'm seeing following message during boot:
    Unknown hardware: "ICH" "Realtek ALC100,100P rev 38" "AC97a:414c4326" "0x1019" "0x0a14"
Hardware is initialized using a guess method

/usr/sbin/alsactl: set_control:1256: failed to obtain info for control #6 (No such file or directory)
    Sound doesn't work anymore.
On a second machine, I get a similar message, the difference being the referenced soundchip(sblive card in that case), but sound still works...
    Whats up?

  • Flash plugin with firefox 3, no sound [SOLVED]

    Good morning.
I would like to report a problem that I have with the flashplugin in firefox. I installed it using the nspluginwrapper-flash 9.0.124.0-1 in AUR. It works, but I get no sound at all. I nstalled the suggested lib32-alsa-lib package, but nothing changed. When I launch firefox I get the following errors:

It tries to load the 32 bit flash plugin because it is in /usr/lib/mozilla, but I have the wrapped version in $HOME/.mozilla/plugins. The relevant error seems to be the no soundwrapper.
You might notice that I am running KDE4 svn but I don't think this has to do with the problem.
Did anyone have a similar problem?

I would check the installation of nspluginwrapper and nspluginwrapper-flash because lib32-alsa-lib is listed as a dependency in the nspluginwrapper-flash PKGBUILD and so should not have to be installed manually.  Also, did you run "nspluginwrapper -v -a -i" as your user and not as root after installation?

  • Problems with sound [SOLVED]

    Hi archers
since using arch... i've noticed when i log into my desktop, a little notification pops up on the bottom right hand side of my taskbar saying something along the lines
    of
HDA Nvidia Playback is not working.... falling back to default.....
sound still works ok after this.... but I do alot of recording using qjackctl and ardour2........ Qjackctl refuses to connect because of the HDA Nvidia issue... it won't connect to it because it says its in use........... there is also a digital, default, and analog one to choose from, but none of them work. I know in other distrubutions of Linux, I had no problems with HDA nvidia sound working..... and no problems getting qjackctl to connect to it. I don't have any other soundcards on my mobo
I guess my question is........... does anyone know how to fix the issue with my correct Sound driver?
im happy to upload any info you need
    thanx

and I can't find Alsa in that directory               Maybe I don't have Alsa driver installed?

  • Bad onboard sound solved?

Im not sure whether this has been allready discussed but i couldnt't find anything on it. So basically the problem is that the onboard sound sounds terrible and the realtek drivers don't really do it any good.
So yesterday i installed the newest nvidia chipset drivers (4.27) and noticed it doesn't install the sound drivers at all, even though they should support the realtek chipset we have . so at first i tried to install it manually and it still did not install the drivers, so then i manually selected the inf files from nvidia driver folder and even thou it said they are not designed for this device i ignored it and voila, my onboard is working very good with nvmixer and sounds pretty good (on par with my live 5.1 board).
The correct inf to install is Nvidia nforce audio codec interface.

plz try this -  (with realtek drivers) but dont change the eq or it resets something and sounds like **** again
Paste the following into a text file and save it as ac97.reg onto desktop then double-click it then yes ok - then reboot:
EDIT: the backslashes should be at the end of each line,  i cant get it to do it in the forum for some reason.  just go to the end of the lines and delete once.

  • XFi crackling sound solve

    Hi Guys,
I had the same crackling sounds with my card. I bought the Cinema edition and there comes a xtreme music with this package. When i installed the drivers, my system was dam slow. the sound was crap and i could forget to play a game. Then i switched to win XP 64 and downloaded the driver for this system, gess what? The crackling stopt, games run fast and the sound is just beautiful. So switched back to win XP 32 bit. with a my new clean system i downloaded the update. and then i installed ONLY the update and my xfi runs as good under win xp (32) as it has under 64 bit. Then you can install the additional software that comes with your cd. All is running fine. But NEVER install the driver that comes with the cd. I installed the old driver and my system again (after the update). My system was slow and i had the crap sound again.
The only thing you lose is the IR Remote Control, somehow that thing doesn't work. Because of that i installed the old driver again (as i mentioned above), the remote works then, but well you know slow system and crackling sound.
So if anybody knows what the file is, i must install for the remote to work, plz tell me.
PS: when this solution was already posted in the 04+ page thread regarding this issue, i apologise. But could anyone tell me a solution with the remote issue anyway

Here's a bit of info that crackle-sufferers might find useful. There's a bit of a story behind it, but stay with me, I think it will be worth your while.
I just tried installing an X-Fi Platinum, and had to give up. The card was simply not detected. No matter what, system would not detect, drivers would not install. I tried everything. After too many hours of effort and a long call to tech support, I gave up and tried to revert to my previous Audigy 2 card.
    Guess what? MASSIVE crackling!
I freaked. This system had been working perfectly for months. I tried all the solutions that have been posted... moving the card, pulling all other cards, etc. Finally, I scrubbed the system... ran the driver remover, deleted every line in the registry with "X-Fi," "Audigy" or "Creative" in it, deleted the Creative folder in Program Files, etc., etc. Of course, then the Audigy card wouldn't recognize! Much more swearing, fritzing... but bottom line, it finally installed.
    Guess what? NO MORE CRACKLE!
I knew the X-Fi software had not uninstalled fully, which was my first clue. Now, back on pure Audigy drivers (the latest version), all is well. What does that say to you? To me, it puts the blame for the crackling squarely on the X-Fi drivers. Oh, sure, there are probably other contributing factors (since not every system exhibits the problem), but if having even a remnant of those cursed X-Fi drivers installed is enough to produce hideous crackling on a previously faultless Audigy 2, what other conclusion can you draw?
The logic seems ironclad to me. The good news: Creative COULD fix the problem, if it's just in the drivers. That stuff about the cards not recognizing... now THAT'S just evil. This is 2006 (isn't it's). That kind of annoyance went out with Win95.

  • Attempting to Delete Song Results in iTunes Crash

Whenever I try to delete a song from my iTunes Library (no matter what song it is) iTunes pauses for a second then immediately crashes. I have never experienced this before and it's beginning to become very frustrating. I have just recently upgraded to OSX Leopard (10.5) and I'm not sure if it has anything to do with my recent upgrade but, any possible help is very much appreciated. I have already searched though numerous threads of various topics of discussion and have not had any luck finding anything to help me. I am currently running iTunes version 7.4.2.
    Thank you.

This is not a problem specific to iTunes. For some reason, even a clean install left no alert sound selected in the audio control panel on my dual G5. ANY action that called an alert sound, in ANY application, would freeze the app, give a spinning beach ball for a few seconds, and end in an unexpected quit of the application. Deleting a song in iTunes triggers an alert sound and BAM, iTunes quits.
More often, I was encountering application departures with accidental clicks outside of modal dialog boxes, failed Safari text searches, etc. I was so disgusted I created a new install of Tiger and was ready to hunker down there and wait for Apple to recognize this problem and solve it.
However, in my new Tiger install I found that my screen was flashing when I should have been hearing an alert. This continued whether or not that option was selected in Universal Access, and toggling it there made no difference. Clicking on the alert volume slider in the audio control panel also resulted in a flash rather than sound. I selected another sound in Tiger and the alert began functioning correctly and the flash was gone.
This lead to me correctly wonder if this was not related to my Leopard problems and to the the above discovery. I booted back into leopard and found that clicking on the alert volume slider there resulted in a beach ball and crash of the preferences panel. Selecting a new sound solved ALL of these problems.

  • Problem with importing audio

When I import a Quicktime movie into iMovie, the audio doesn't import with it. I've tried going to file--import, and just clicking and dragging the file into my clips. What's wrong? I'm using version 6.0.3. Thanks.

    This is from iMovie Help:
*The audio is missing from my imported QuickTime movie*
If audio is missing from your imported QuickTime movie, you may be importing video in MPEG-1 Muxed format or MPEG-2 Muxed format. Only the video portion is imported from movies in these formats.
To see if your imported movie file is in MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 Muxed format:
    1. Open the original movie file in QuickTime Player.
    2. Choose Window > Show Movie Info.
    3. If necessary, click More Info in the Movie Info window to see the movie format.
For further info, go to IMovie Help>Working With Sound>Solving Problems with Audio.
    Good luck.

  • [solved] No sound, ALSA finds soundcard, pulseaudio does not.

    Problem:
pulseaudio can't find my soundcard (or it can't find ALSA, not sure). It falls back to a dummy-output and no input so i can't play sounds or use my mic.
    First appeared when:
Installing software updates like a month ago. I ignored it at first in the hopes it will resolve itself with the next update an few dates later. It didn't so far. None of the packets I updated had linux|pulse|alsa|sound|audio in its name. So i guess it just triggered the problem in a indirect way.
    What did not help:
Reinstalling packets with pulse|alsa|sound|audio in its name.
    Deleting ${HOME}/.pulse* .
    Rebooting.
Resetting /etc/pulse/* or /etc/asound.conf to the defaults of the packaes they come with.
Adding or removing my user to the audio group.

  • [SOLVED] Mic does not work on Intel ICH8 (rev 3) sound card

    Hi, folks.
I cannot get my sound card to record anything, using a built-in microphone. Audio output works just fine, though. I hope someone can help me, I have been banging my head against the wall for some time over this issue...
My laptop is Toshiba Satellite A200-1J0 (PSAE6E-04R036G3). alsamixer settings are fine, I tried supplementing additional options to /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf, but no luck, tried some of the combinations (model=<> position_fix=<>).
When recording sound with gnome-sound-recorder, with Capture set as input, nothing is heard. Skype can't record anything, either. I can't even get the crackling or hissing sound like some users do.
Should I try to get the latest ALSA?
Debug details start from now on:

    Hi there!
I had the very same problem with the same soundcard and found this thread.
The problem got solved for me by adding the same line as you have to /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf.
However, I also had to create /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf and add:
    alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
    alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
    options snd-hda-intel model=toshiba power_save=0
Notice the difference on the "model=toshiba" part.
However, my laptop is not a Toshiba, but a Compal IFL90.
I remember that in Ubuntu I needed(a long time ago) to add a line to /etc/alsa.conf with model=toshiba. I figured it might be worth a try, and well, it did.
I hope this can help someone else.
As for the OP: "You have my thanks!"

  • [SOLVED]Problem with sound in HDMI

    Hello good society of Arch
Now I have problems with sound from HDMI. I use Arch as an tvPc, wasting movies and tv shows on it. I use ALSA and it works well, except of a few files that I have, then there is picture but sound is either twisted or not played at all. It does not matter whether I use vlc or mplayer, I'm experiencing the same problem.
I have not found anything about this with google, other problems have been either hdmi sound working or not, not like it is with me, sometimes it works and sometimes it don't.
I know that the files are ok, I can play them in anther pc I have (also using Arch on that pc).
Does anybody know what the problem might be? What do I have to look at to find out what the problem is? This have been like this for some time now, but I haven't looked into it before, because I don't use TV that muts, but the wife does and when she stats blaming Arch, I have too do something about it.
I have never encountered problem with Arch that i cant solve by using this forum and google
    Thanks

cleanrock wrote:I noticed i got no audio over hdmi on some video file which had a low audio bitrate, i solved it by resampling the sound to 48000 in ~/.mplayer/config :
    af=resample=48000
I will look at this when i come home from work, thanks.
